[10.0] "All Out 2023 truly had some bad luck, build wise. Scheduled one week after All in London was bad enough, but also the giant stink bomb of CM Punk's drama and him being fired no less than 24 hours before the event gathered this whole negative cloud over the company. There could have been some grace towards AEW if this PPV felt like an after thought, and yet it was anything but. All Out 2023 is somehow, miraculously, one of the very best pro wrestling PPVs anyone has ever done. Outside of a couple slow dull matches at the beginning, it's just one good-to-great match after another with all the variety you could hope for. Darby vs Luchasarus is the classic "Big guy vs Little guy" match up, with two wrestlers who play their archetypes to perfection. Hobbs vs Miro is one of the best examples of the BIG MEATY GUYS slapping each other, and the crowd just ate that shit up. Statlander showed why she's one of the strongest chicks to ever be TBS champion. Then the show starts getting really good with Danielson vs Starks in a strap match. This stipulation doesn't have the highest hit rate, but both wrestlers use it to perfection, to enhance the storytelling instead of filling up an absence of it. This is a brutal, visceral watch, perfectly paced and executed, with an submission ending that should have made Starks a star in this company. We get a much needed break with Kingston/Shibata vs BCC with a straight forward but well crafted tag team match, structured around Kingston and Claudio's animosity towards each other. Then we get my personal favorite match of the night, between Kenny Omega and Konosuke Takeshita. This is an absolute pro wrestling clinic from two of the very best in the world, trying to prove something to each other, and its as good a single match you'll see all year. Next, we got an extremely fun 4v4 match, as Bullet Club Gold, the absolute hottest group in AEW in 2023(their entrance is pure AURA) vs the two best tag teams in AEW with FTR and the Young Bucks. This such an electric match up, everyone playing off each other, moving with so much purpose and collaboration. And for longterm fans, the sight of the Bucks and FTR reluctantly teaming up to do super kicks and assisted tombstones and each other finishers is a real treat. Finally, the main event. Orange Cassidy had been International Champion for over 300 days. He defended the title a record 30+ times. He's gone from being everyone favorite joke character to a real deal fighting champion. He's bruised, he's bandaged up, but he turns in week after week, month after month like an absolute workhorse. And now we had to face Jon Moxley. This wasn't like Omega/Takeshita, with two evenly matched best in the world fighting each other. Everyone knew Orange Cassidy didn't stand a chance against one of AEW's most invincible wrestlers. But goddamn if he didn't go out swinging, taking all kinds of punishment, finding the rare counters and dishing out his trademark offense. The show appropriately ended not with a shot of the swaggering Moxley, celebrating with his newly won gold. It was a shot of Orange Cassidy, bloodied but defiant, as the whole crowd gives him a standing ovation. A great ending to one of AEW's greatest PPVs."

[10.0] "I was flabbergastaed when the show ended. This year has been a weird one for AEW and for my enjoyment of the promotion. Ups and downs, ups and downs, up and downs. Fights, gossip, turnmoil, a dark cloud hanging over the whole company. The booking has certainly taken a hit since Revoultion this year. The build to the event was rushed, uncreative, drab and at some points, flat out embarrassiing. So going into the event I wasn't even planning to buy the PPV, Just going about my day and watch it later. I'm glad I bought it in the first hour. Wow, what a show. Incredible from top to bottom. The pacing going from the least attractive matches to the one with the most potential to be great worked so well. Won't go match for match but watch Darby/Luchasaurus, Miro/Hobbs, Danielson/Starks, BCC/Eddie & Shibata, Omega/Takeshita, the 8 man tag and the main event. The OC/Mox match was my match of the night (5 stars) followed by Starks/Danielson (4.75). (04.09.2023) (09.07.2025 - Rewatched): Still as incredible, maybe going less on some matches. The three big matches still stand as good as the first time. They did not use this as a launch pad for a new momentum wave lmao. Oh well, the product would go back on track two years later."

This was a good show with some great matches, that strap match in particular was wonderful, but theres a lot of mid or straight up bad matches here. All of the multi man matches were disappointing, with the eight man tag being genuinely terrible. Great mean event, great Kenny match, great big men match, incredible strap match, the rest was so mid."

Punk is my favorite, but they will have to move on, show that there are life after them, and that seems the way, even the Chicago crowd seemed to acknowledged that. This show had no bad matches, it was very regular, very fun to watch. This definitely belongs in my top-3 ppvs of the year, together with All In and Revolution. I felt A LOT of lack of star power there as well. But nevertheless, very very good event."

So many solid to fantastic matches, Bryan Vs Starks, Omega Vs Takeshita and Orange Vs Moxley are all absolutely phenomenal and BMOTY contenders and the Chicago crowd was hot as always. Overall AEW All Out (2023) is the biggest examples of a company being backed to a corner and making an absolute comeback to get out and it makes it one of AEW's best PPVs ever."

[9.0] "Talk about a huge contrast between expectations and delivery. Just a week before this was AEW's hugely hyped stadium show, All In. It was hard for All Out to feel like anything but an afterthought in the shadow of that event, especially with only a week's build. I remember not having the appetite for another 3+ hour show in back-to-back weekends either. On top of all that, the news cycle was once again dominated by the last CM Punk drama. But I ended up enjoying this show more than All In. I just did a rewatch of five matches that I remembered enjoying most. Some of the matches I skipped are good (TBS Title, 8-Man Tag), but I didn't feel the need to see them again. This show has three matches that I rated a 9 or 10, and some fun midcard matches (TNT Title and the Meat match). This ended up being a much-needed fun show for AEW with fantastic action to remind fans what this promotion should be all about."

Coming off their biggest PPV and the bad press of firing Punk, Tony Khan did wonders to salvage this show. The performances were top notch as well knowing what was at stake. You can always rely on Danielson and Moxley to carry a show or prop-up the company. They had a unique set of matches that made this show stand out from other homogenous PPV line-ups. Takeshita vs. Omega was outstanding. Starks vs. Danielson is one of Danielson's best matches in the company. The main event with Orange Cassidy and Jon Moxley was a unique and satisfying end to the show. The story they told with Orange Cassidy took him to a higher level despite Moxley coming out on top. I really admire this show and how it came off in Chicago which could've easily poo-poo'd the show, but chose to embrace the spectacular action and pacing throughout."

[10.0] "Never bet against the Elite. You stack the odds against them and they deliver their best show ever and one of the best professional wrestling events of all time. Cole/MJF vs. Dark Order was good, the dynamic of the injured man who returns for the hot tag was well excecuted and I'm happy that Dark Order got some shine. Joe vs. Taylor was alright but I absolutely loved the angle between Joe and MJF. Allin vs. Luchasaurus was really good and Miro vs. Hobbs was super fun and entertaining, especially thanks to those meat chants. Statlander vs. Soho was good. Danielson vs. Starks was amazing, a MOTYC. Ricky Starks looked like a million bucks even in defeat and Danielson proved why he is the goat. Blackpool Combat Club vs. Shibata & Kingston was okay but I was a bit dissapointed by this one. Omega vs. Takeshita was amazing, wasn't expecting less from these two. Probably Takeshita's best perfomance since joining Aew. Omega putting over Takeshita was the right choice. Bullet Club Gold vs. FTR & Young Bucks was very fun and excting. Ftr & the Bucks have an incredible chemistry, their combos are always fantastic and BCG is tremendous. Moxley vs. Cassidy was a storytelling masterpiece and was great from an in-ring standpoint, another MOTYC. Cassidy's title run will go down in the history of this company as legendary. Overall: not a bad match and three MOTYC. Top three best shows of 2023, one of the best AEW's best PPVs and one of the best shows of all time."

Danielson vs Starks and Kenny vs Takeshita were great but I wouldn't say 5 stars-great, and that's coming from a huge fan of both Omega and Danielson. I did enjoy Miro vs Hobbs and Luchasaurus vs Darby but after that they lost my attention. I feel like there weren't enough important titles on the line either which makes sense considering that All In just happened, but still."

MJF/Cole vs. Dark Order: super fun match that was a good opener (***3/4), Joe vs. Taylor: Weakest match on the card, but not bad, just mediocre (**3/4), Luchassaurus vs. Darby: incredible dynamics between the two, at times it seemed that we would have a "miracle" from the challenger, but the champion monster was too much for him (***3/4), Miro vs. Hobbs: THE MEAT MATCH, the match was cool, but the crowd turned it into a sideshow, the post match segment was nonsensical and unnecessary (***3/4), Kris vs. Ruby: typical women's division match, dull and lazy, but at least it didn't hurt the show (***), Danielson vs. Starks: brutal match, MOTN (****1/2), BCC vs. Kingston/Shibata: match ok, no great moments (***1/4), Takeshita vs. Omega: great match, a bit lower than I expected but still a banger, surprising result (****1/2), BCG vs. FTR/Bucks: pretty cool match (****), Mox vs. Orange: the icing on the cake of this sensational run by OC, which would imagine it being treated as a big deal and main eventer, a wonderful match between the two biggest workhorses in the company, Cassidy is a star (****1/2). [10.0] "this show was just magnificent and a reminder of why I love professional wrestling, in the aftermath of cm punk's release, this show felt like it had a doom cloud hanging over it, especially with it taking place in chicago, this show had a really hard task to accomplish, what will a post CM punk AEW look like, so it felt that everyone put more effort in everything, and at the end this show ruled, all the matches did their job beautifully, the crowd didn't care for the slitest about the lack of punk on the card and instead enjoyed the show and were white hot throughout, and it was just simple yet enjoyable pro wrestling at its finest, I don't know how to put it into words, this show had the vibe of a 2019 AEW show, to simpler times when it was just fun before all the drama and backstage stuff overshadowed the product, and hopefully we'll move on once and for all, the fact that Omega got deafening cheers and even the bucks got a lot of cheers from the crowd send a simple message: let's forget about the politics and tribalism and backstage drama and enjoy the show instead, the in ring is phenomenal, everyone is over, the crowd pops for every big move, all what makes AEW so good or rather used to, as an isolated show, it was very good even excellent, but as a glimmer of hope that AEW will get its magic back and put all the negative stuff behind and start all over again, it's incredible, the spirit of the original All In might have died following brawl out but this show brought it back, this show for what it was, it was great, but for what it meant, it's one of if not the greatest show in AEW history or any company for that matter, I shed a tear at the end of it, show of the year, thank you AEW"

Tolle Show. AEW + PPV ist Liebe."

[5.0] "I think this event was doomed to mediocrity from the start thanks to the one-week turnaround from All In. The lack of a world title defense (men's or women's! oh wait, they can't have a women's defense because they made Shida play hot potato dropping the belt to Saraya for a feel-good moment at All In and Saraya can't wrestle twice in two weeks - which is fine, but not a good choice for champion during the Month of Two Pay-Per-Views) on what's typically the biggest AEW pay-per-view of the year is just extremely strange. It might have been saved if the match we did get with the world champion was really excellent, but the ROH tag match was hastily assembled in concept and mediocre in execution. The story they're trying to tell is confusing and labored - the camera sticks so long on MJF as he goes backstage that you're sure he's about to run back down the ramp, but instead he fully leaves and then comes back a few minutes later. The most appealing part of the match is Joe and MJF brawling after it ends. (I don't think the lack of a world title match was a result of Punk's firing - it would be an insane choice to have Punk and MJF face each other for either title with less than a week of direct feud buildup - but then again, there are lots of insane choices in here already.) Another issue is the number of ROH matches on the card. It's kind of reminiscent of pre-HonorClub days when Tony would just stuff ROH matches onto AEW shows willy-nilly. Joe and Shane are both great, but did we really need an ROH *TV championship* defense on this AEW pay-per-view? On top of that, Athena - who I would call THE top talent in ROH right now - is relegated to Zero Hour in a match that could easily have become a great 40 minutes in the middle of the main card. Kind of insulting and it doesn't do the quality of the show any favors; if you're doing random ROH matches already, you should 100% be using Athena. Ricky and Bryan had a great match, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to know that Bryan came back so long before he was supposed to be cleared. That, plus using "MJF's neck is hurt enough that medical wants him to leave the match, but he comes back to fight because he's so brave" as a storyline in the opening match, paints an uncomfortable picture of the ongoing culture around ignoring and working through injuries in pro wrestling. I will qualify this by saying that Bryan wrestled weekly between All Out and his original clear date and (as far as we know) didn't reinjure himself, so either the date was incredibly cautious or he got very lucky; either way there seems to be no harm done in this particular case. Honestly, the event takes an hour or two to even start feeling like a PPV. There are great matches, and the main event IS good, but a defense of a secondary title with less than a week of buildup and no real motivation (Mox comes off like he just wants a good fight out of Orange, which is nicely in character, but more in line with something you'd toss up on Dynamite - it's also not like there's nobody who's got more history, Yuta is right there...In general passing this title to Mox doesn't make sense to me, he doesn't need it and it doesn't need him) is not really PPV main event material in my opinion. I might have been sold on an Orange/Yuta main event, and I could definitely see Orange/Mox as a high midcard match - again, the match itself was great - but it's a strange end to a strange event. The bottom line is that this is an event with a lot of really good matches but no real cohesion. I have to agree with my friend who saw the event live and described it as feeling like a longer-than-usual Dynamite. Disappointing, but again, I think scheduling two pay-per-views back to back makes it inevitable that the second one will fall a bit flat."

Eddie Kingston siegt und geht definitiv Over. Auch das man hier Shibata so gut in die Fehde mit einbezogen hat find ich gut (****1/4). Und dann kommt mein erstes von Zwei "Matches Of The Night"! Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita war ein Unfassbar starkes Match und ein absolutes 5 Sterne Classic! Ich denke mal das diese Fehde noch lange lange nicht vorbei ist und das ist auch gut so. Ich brauche definitiv "Omega vs. Takeshita II"! Das Finish war mir aber irgendwie etwas zu "Leicht". Mal sehen was man da noch so zusehen bekommt (*****).

Moxley brings a beast out of Cassidy that hasn't been seen before. The blood, the violence, the nearfalls, this match is for sure one of Moxley and Cassidy's best ever. All around a great ppv"

However, that does not get over the issue that this is one of the worst built major shows in modern wrestling history and definitely for AEW. Luckily with the all timer roster that they've been able to gather together they can dash together a card in a minute and end up with a great show but I really struggled to really care about most of the matches and here's to hoping that the Full Gear and WrestleDream builds start immediately after this show and actually get time for the feuds to get hot"

No World Championship match but this was a ppv worth watching. Three Excellent matches in the main event, Omega-Takeshita and my MoTN- The strap match. But beyond these three were also other matches that were quiet good like the Miro-Hobbs match and the penultimate multiman tag match. My MVPs were- Starks, Takeshita and Cassidy; All three men gave excellent performances tonight and showed the whole world and the company that they belong in the main event. I am not a fan of Cassidy but he was great tonight. While both Takeshita and Starks could be major World Championship contenders if not World Champions themselves with the right booking."

Three really great matches here in Mox vs. OC, Danielson vs. Starks and Omega vs. Takeshita, supported by a rock-solid undercard. A consistently good show with no real notable complaints about anything on it."

The Takeshita/Omega and Moxley/Cassidy matches also over-delivered in their in-ring storytelling. This isn't a "perfect ten" PPV, but it's nevertheless going to be extremely memorable due to great individual performances and a lively/fun crowd. Even the average-level matches (ROH Tag and ROH TV Title matches) were buoyed by storytelling beats that should prove successful in the future."

[5.0] "I received a warning because the Cagematch crew believed I was intentionally voting this event down. This is not the case. I simply didnt enjoy it very much and neither did the two people who watched it with me (both of which were in London and pretty hyped). In my eyes, this was the worst big AEW PPV to date. When I listened to the Cagecast review I honestly wondered whether we had seen the same PPV. The opener was okay, a solid way to kick of the show. The next match wasnt a match, it was an angle. Luchasaurus vs. Darby Allin was solid as well but not more. Miro vs. Hobbs was good but the weird post-match sequence with CJ Perry devalued it and left me utterly confused. Statlander vs. Soho was good for the biggest part but the shenanigans ending made it feel like a mere Outcasts segment and not a real title match (I love Toni Storms new gimmick though! ). Danielson vs. Starks was just not my kind of wrestling. I dont enjoy bleeding (and blading even less. A match with so much blood is a bad match for me. The same goes for the main event, even more so because I dont enjoy watching Moxley wrestling. I just dont. BCC vs. Kingston/Shibata was a match. I honestly dont remember a single thing about it. Takeshita vs. Omega was very good. That one spot in the beginning though that had Omega land on his head killed it for me. It was suspension of disbelief turned around. I feared for the two going too far for the sake of our entertainment and our entertainment is not worth permanent injuries. So, while it was a very good match I couldnt really enjoy it. The Eight Men Tag Match was very good. I have nothing to say against it other that I hope FTR and Young Bucks will team up again because I really liked their chemistry. To sum it up: There were two matches I enjoyed. The rest was flawed at best while most of it was too brutal, bloody, dangerous for my taste. Five points seem more than generous for a PPV that I did not enjoy most of the time."

[7.0] "After the immense disappointment that was All In at Wembley Stadium, which had me questioning whether AEW was even worth watching anymore, All Out a week later was a total 180, featuring a bunch of good matches that ultimately allowed AEW to win me back over, even without having the highest of peaks. Cole & MJF vs Reynolds & Silver was okay. Very goofy to start, but MJF's natural charisma carried it. Some nice rapid trades after MJF's injury angle, with more cheesy entertainment once he returned. I can stomach this far more than when Cole/MJF mix their hokey melodrama with jarring comedy. **3/4. Joe vs Taylor was fun for its time. A variety of impactful strike trades and some nice selling, with Taylor showing nice intensity and creativity to make up for his lack of familiarity to the crowd. A few bits of awkward chemistry but never anything too bad. ***. Saurus vs Darby was pretty good David-vs-Goliath. Darby's distressed selling and risky bumps were very good, and his daredevil spots and creative attacks were very exciting. Saurus was likewise good as the brutal powerhouse monster. A shame about the disappointing distracting finish. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Miro vs Hobbs was a good powerhouse match with lots of impactful trades. Definitely a bit generic and long, but energetic enough to make up for that. A shame about the obnoxious crowd chants. ***1/4. CJ Perry's post-match debut/save was odd (since she took her sweet time *and* was at odds with Miro), but she'll hopefully be a nice roster addition. Statlander vs Ruby was okay. They had many pretty generic and cooperative exchanges, aiming for minimal botches but sadly resulting in lacking intensity and realism. They had a few nice ideas in the 2nd half, and then Toni's turn made for an underwhelming finish. **1/2. Danielson vs Starks was really good. On top of Starks' cocky heel work and Danielson's fiery babyface work, they both impressed with their many painful strap-attacks. I'm unfortunately inherently biased against hardcore-style matches because I prefer *wrestling* in my wrestling matches, but at least the hardcore spots here looked convincingly painful. It definitely could've been more creativity but was still really good. ***1/2. Kingston & Shibata vs Claudio & Yuta was pretty good, almost entirely due to Shibata's absolutely wonderful grappling, striking, and warrior-like character work. Kingston was typically limited with his half-baked 90s AJPW cosplay, though his few stiff strikes and his chasing after Claudio were good, while Claudio and Yuta were decent as the nasty and aggressive heels. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Omega vs Takeshita was very good and easily MOTN. It was pretty auto-pilot-y with their rather mindless trades, plus Takeshita clearly overshadowed Omega in basically every way, but the majority of their interactions were still very exciting and well-executed, and they had a few pretty creative spots too. Their constant knee-strike spam grew tiresome, but I liked the creativity of Takeshita's clean win after the screwdriver fake-out. ***3/4. FTR & The Bucks vs BC Gold was needlessly long but still pretty fun. FTR's old-school intensity and technical work, the Bucks' entertainingly obnoxious character work and classic spots, and BC Gold's showboating and beatdown work were all good, with the hot seemingly making all 8 men even more energetic. The multi-man spots definitely got really cheesy, but at least FTR and the Bucks's team-up spots were usually pretty cool and creative. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Cassidy vs Moxley was pretty good "fiery underdog vs aggressive bruiser" match, and while it definitely wasn't remotely bad, I still never found anything they did especially creative or impressive. Cassidy mostly sold well but had a few annoyingly over-cooperative spots, and he overcompensated on flashiness to cover up his flimsy offence. Moxley's aggressive counters were pretty fun, and their rapid trades at the end, while indeed mindless and overkill, at least served the story of Cassidy's impressive resilience. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Really good show overall."

After watching the matches until Omega I ended up doing it anyway; it was that good. Relentless, well paced and heartbreaking at times, I wish this PPV wasn't plagued by the build issues, because it deserved to break all the possible records. In-ring wise it absolutely cleans All In [which I loved, as you can see in my ratings] and is on par with Revolution and Forbidden Door. Any company would kill for a record like this. The sequence of the last 5 matches is something of such high quality that I can't think of a show that comes this close, at least on this year. Is on par with the very best of NJPW's Wrestling Kingdoms or NXT's Takeovers. It was that good. Go watch it, there's at least two MOTY contenders in here. That last minute strap match was incredible but I was scared when Steamboat fell by slipping in blood. Very good first four matches that made sense and had the stories of their own, but this streak got broken by the women's match. Fortunately the next bout between Danielson and Starks was so good that it became a contender for the match of the year alongside IC Triple Threat Match from WrestleMania. Great match, Danielson put Ricky over with every single move and Starks' selling and facial expressions did wonders too. But then we had three typical AEW matches with no story, no sense and no attempt to keep the immersion, so I zoned out before the main event that I was negative towards, but, boy oh boy, did I get surprised again. Moxley actually had a match that told a story and him not bleeding ironicly made it more special. Cassidy as an underdog worked nicely and if you try not to get offended by his gimmick you can have a nice time here, as Moxley didn't let OC to bury him with his fake kicks. Samoa Joe vs Shane Taylor: This match was decent enough but did not live up to my expectations as it didn't get the time it deserved, Joe winning was the right choice [**]. Luchasaurus vs Darby Allin: This match showed that Luchasaurus is a dominant force within AEW with his dominance of Darby Allin for the most part, but Darby Allin showing his perserverance against a monster like Luchasaurus was cool to see, Nick Wayne and Christian Cage's confrontation with Cage telling Wayne throw in the towel was funny to watch [***3/4]. Miro vs Powerhouse Hobbs: One of the best matches in AEW of both Miro and Powerhouse Hobbs, they went for it in one of the best big hoss matches I've seen in a while, it was hard at times to tell who would win with some nice near falls [****1/4]. Kris Statlander vs Ruby Soho: Decent match but could have been better had Saraya not got involved as she did, the ending was strange when Toni Storm seemingly helped Statlander win when she took the spray can off of Ruby Soho [***1/2]. Bryan Danielson vs Ricky Starks: As expected this match was brutal, especially at the end when Danielson used the strap to choke out Starks for the win, I liked when Ricky Steamboat got involved when Big Bill got involved [****1/4]. Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs Eddie Kingston & Katsuyori Shibata: Great tag team match, Eddie Kingston and Katsuyori Shibata worked well together as a team and should team more often, Claudio Castagnoli pinning Eddie Kingston was the right way to go [****1/4]. Kenny Omega vs Konosuke Takeshita: What a match, that was as physical as expected, with some cool if shocking moments and spots like when Konosuke Takeshita hit the blue thunder bomb from the top rope, even with the attempted interference from Don Callis this was still a banger of a match, pardon the pun but they went all out on this one [*****]. Bullet Club Gold vs FTR & The Young Bucks: This match was interesting and FTR and The Young Bucks able to work together like they did was good to see, BC Gold were good as well, enjoyed it more than I thought I would [****1/2]. They gave that show no time to breathe and now all anyone can talk about is how this show upstaged it. I'm still a little torn on this card because there are still at least four matches I'd put at 5/10 or lower, but the highs were definitely higher than anything Wembley had, and most of the lesser matches didn't really feel long enough to drag things down. This was mostly a pretty well-paced card for AEW."

Certainly not their best show of the year - to me that was either Forbidden Door or Revolution - but there was some good stuff here like Hobbs v Miro, Danielson v Starks and Omega v Takeshita. I find it incredible that when you have four "big PPVs" a year, you don't have your world title defended in the main event in one of them. To add to that, there was no tag title or women's world title defence on the show. Some of the matches felt like they belonged on weekly TV such as the eight man tag and the irrelevant tag match featuring Kingston and Shibata. Going back to the world title picture I am not really that excited by MJF having a skirmish with Samoa Joe because we all know that Joe's never winning that belt in a month of Sundays, so the show's sort of left without a cliff hanger to make me want to tune into Dynamite."

They still managed to make this match interesting with the injury angle on MJF. Next, We got Samoa defending his Television title against Shane Taylor. I don't know Taylor, but he seemed out of place on a show of this magnitude. This was mostly just a showcase for Joe. We then had Luchasaurus defending against Darby Allin in what was probably Luchasaurus' best singles match. This led into the meat match between Miro and Powerhouse Hobbs. This match was both possibly Miro's best match in AEW and painfully boring. The only highlights were the crowd's efforts to entertain themselves with Big E inspired chants, and the seeds of an interesting angle with CJ Perry after the match. We then got Kris Statlander defending against Ruby Soho in a good match, that might not have quite reached the level expected of an AEW PPV. We then got our first perfect 10 match of the night with Bryan Danielson and Ricky Starks' strap match. This was definitely the match of the night, although Omega-Takeshita and Moxley-Cassidy come close. We get a moment to cool things off a bit as the Blackpool Combat Club team of Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta defeat Katsuyori Shibata and Eddie Kingston in a match that was quite good, but couldn't compete with what came before it. We then had Konosuke Takeshita defeat Kenny Omega in an absolute banger of a match. I'm glad they gave Takeshita the win because I came in convinced that Omega was winning this one. We then got an 8-Man tag as Bullet Club Gold took on the Young Bucks and FTR. This Match started a little slow, but really got cooking once the Bucks and FTR started to get along. I'm glad that they were able to give Bullet Club Gold the win without resorting to something cheap and having one team walk out on the other. Finally, we get our main event and the other 10 rated match on this show, as Jon Moxley did his best to murder Orange Cassidy on national television. This match was absolutely brutal, and Mox did a lot to get Cassidy over strong in defeat."

For what appeared on paper to be no more than a really strong episode of Dynamite we were expected to pay for, to end up being one of the best wrestling shows of the year is quite the surprise. Especially seeing as it came exactly a week after AEW's biggest show ever. Also coming after a whole hurricane of drama, the crew came out with something to prove and knocked it out of the park, presenting a show that was so much better than it had any right being: The ROH Tag Title Match was fine, it progressed the MJF/Cole angle, which I'll freely admit others are more into than I am, but it was impossible to believe Dark Order had a shot of winning here ***. The ROH TV Title Match was another perfectly fine, but totally inconsequential match **3/4. The biggest thing is that it started with a big pull-apart with Joe and MJF, so that looks like it'll be the next World Title programme. Luchasaurus vs. Darby Allin was a fun little match, that featured a clearly banged up Darby bumping around like a lunatic for the big man ***1/2. Miro vs. Hobbs was a great hard-hitter in which these two big men pounded on each other. The crowd were having a blast chanting about "MEAT" throughout this thing, and that's likely what most will remember about it, unfortunately ****. Miro's wife debuted in the post match, which Miro freaked out about for some reason. I do love secret storylines in wrestling. The TBS Title Match was another good outing that exceeded expectations ***1/4. The Danielson/Starks Strap Match was INCREDIBLE. For a match that had literally 24 hours build, they went out there and stole the show, and also produced one of the best AEW matches of the year. Just brutal, bloody stuff, with Danielson destroying poor Ricky with that strap getting hard to watch at times ****3/4. Kingston/Shibata vs. Claudio/Yuta was very good indeed, it had to follow the Strap Match, which was an unenviable task, but they managed to win the crowd over in the end. The finish was very peculiar though ***1/2. Omega vs. Takeshita was another tremendous match, with both guys going out there to have a MOTYC. I don't quite think it was at that level, and on any other show they'd have stolen it, but I preferred the Strap Match more. The clean win for Takeshita was the right move, and I'm intrigued to see where he goes from here ****1/2+. The FTR/Bucks vs. Bang Bang Gang 8 man was another excellent match. It was essentially a great Dynamite main event on a PPV, but the action and heat was great ****1/4. And the Orange Cassidy vs. Jon Moxley main event was yet another fab match that was better than I expected. Full disclosure; I'm not really a massive fan of either guy or their respective matches usually, but this told a great story and Cassidy looked amazing here. Moxley winning was the right call as Orange had pretty much done it all with the International belt at this point ****1/4+. From a bump freak in Darby making Luchasaurus look like the most dangerous man on the roster, to MEAT chants that made a match 3 times better, to one the best PPV womens match AEW ever had this was already great. Then, we get to maybe the best strap match of all time which made RIcky Starks look much better than 6 months of TV ever could. A cooldown match with Shibata is insane, but this is AEW. Kenny bumping like a maniac and making Takeshita. An 8 man tag highly improved by the crowd (also with a very cool shot of people standing up when BuckTR are going for the triple power and glory) and then there was only one match left; The 2 aces of AEW facing, a battle scarred Orange Cassidy vs the Death Jutsu of Jon Moxley, i don't need to write much about it, you see the rating the match has, just go watch it. AEW finally feels like itself again, Pro Wrestling in all of its weirdness and violence."

I don't want to dwell on that much, but plain and simple that match didn't belong on the main card, much less in AEW at all. Perhaps the motivation was simply to give Joe a PPV win, plus the tie-in with Max. But without question, the weakest singles match-up AEW has put on a main PPV card since 2019."

Like everyone else, I wasn't excited going into this because of how thrown together the card was, but apparently that's the meta for creating a great PPV these days, because nearly every single match here overdelivered. The atmosphere was, at first, admittedly dire due to Punk's exit, but I figured I would give the show a chance and see if it would entertain me after being encapsulated by the backstage drama the past week. I guess the lockerroom stepped up, because unlike All In, no one's talking about what happened to Punk, they're all focused on the show. While I think the pacing and atmosphere were better at All In, All Out had much better match quality, which is what it's really all about. If I had one criticism about the show itself, there were 2 matches that didn't do anything for me, and the 10-match card was way, way too long. Everything was amazing, but god, I do like tighter cards time-wise."

Every result felt like it was the correct one. The crowd was lively. A show that was absolutely worth the $50 and more by the end. All Out 2023 is one of the best show of the year so far, I was afraid that the Chicago crowd would have ruined the vibe considering what happened the night before, but no, they proved that they are maybe the best wrestling audience by not being braindead toxic fanboys/fangirls of CM Punk, bringing funny signs and chanting funny stuff like "meat" or "cry me a river", and of course keeping a great energy throughout the entire show. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10 is the tag team Claudio & Wheeler Yuta vs Eddie Kingston & Shibata. Not because it was bad, it was actually good, but the show was already too long, this was not a PPV worthy match and the placement on the card kinda slowed down the excitation. The opener was great on every aspect, keeping the MJF/Adam Cole team over, giving some sick in ring time to the Dark Order, the MJF babyface works and the aftermatch with Samoa Joe was so cool! It made the Joe vs Shane Taylor way more appealing, good match with a dominant Samoa Joe victory. The TNT title match was crazy, Darby Allin getting tortured with new spots every time is cool, Christian's heel work is excellent, I was sceptic about a good Luchasaurus performance but he was good. Miro vs Hobbs was about to be very good but the crowd made it great and a highlight of the show with their "meat" chants. CJ Perry in the aftermatch is at least intriguing. Statlander vs Soho started slow but was at least a good breather, but then they picked up the pace, and the crowd followed. Match was good, Toni Storm intervention was expected but it's classic good booking. The Strap match was incredible! Bryan Danielson got The Final Countdown again (thank you TK) and Ricky Starks got his best performance (against the best wrestler in the world) cool spot with Steamboat too. MOTN. Omega vs Takeshita was great with a very good finish, not gonna lie I expected just a little more from this bout, guess they keeping some surprise for the next match(es? ) I loved the Bullet Club Gold vs Young Bucks & FTR! That's were the Punk chants/heat made sense, but looks like the Bucks won over the crowd with their great performance and their unhinged attitude! Jay White is slowly becoming an AEW big name, FTR & Bucks made some cool spots together, very fun match! The Main Event was excellent, Moxley is carrying the company once again, Orange Cassidy proved he was main eventer calibre. Some great camera shots in this one. It's a shame that the Punk situation ended like this... But AEW proved this night that he was not essential even in Chicago (we saw that after brawl out last year too tbh) I'm excited for the company's future, I hope CM Punk will come back one day tho, especially for a program with the Elite."

This was another great AEW PPV though it did start a bit weak before geting to a strong 2nd half. Danielson and Starks beat the hell out of each other, Omega and Takeshita put on anothr multiple false finish match that Omega is known for, Cassidy showed his never say die attitude in the main event against Moxley (what's insane is Moxley didn't blade himself once in this match), and FTR and the Young Bucks worked well as a team against Bullet Club Gold. MJF and Cole had a pretty mediocre match against Dark Order, but the story of MJF necks and Samoa Joe does lead to some fun in the future. Joe did the best he could to put on a good show with a random indie guy as did Statlander and Soho but Soho just isn't that good in the ring (should really stick to being a mouth piece which is her strength). Then we have the rest of the matches that were pretty solid but not great: Miro vs Hobbs, Kingston and Shibata vs BCC, and Darby vs Luchasaurus. A pretty respectable show without Punk in Chicago and not having much of a build. I don't really like Khan nearly doubling the amount of PPVs he does though. The show flowed pretty well through the first 8 matches too when pacing and feeling like too much of the same thing is an issue AEW shows run into constantly. Two 20-minuters after that was kinda rough though, especially when one didn't feel particularly important. This show was absolutely on fire beginning to end. Matches of varying length are proportioned and placed nearly perfect on the card, so it doesn't feel as loaded or overlong as Revolution. And in my honest opinion, I felt there were AT LEAST three *five star* worth matches here. There's even one non-wrestling segment which blew my mind: that being Samoa Joe and MJF building a rivalry from a viral gif of the two them in NXT! I certainly didn't go into it expecting to like it as much as All In and Forbidden Door ... possibly even more (maybe not by all that much, but still). Maybe it was the crowd. Maybe it was the vibe of having dropped a huge weight from their shoulders. Maybe it was the fact that compared to the other shows this year there was only one match with more than 4 people in it, only one gimmick match, more singles matches in general. (They have felt dependent on multi-man chaos matches as of late, eh? ). Maybe it was the habit of teasing a cheesy angle and then quickly going the other way with it (Miro's post match, pretending the Outcasts weren't really breaking up, but then breaking them up). Maybe it was forgoing expected conclusions to some matches to elevate newer acts in the company (Takeshita). Maybe it was every single match being HARD HITTING. Maybe a combination of all of these things, made the show shine in spite of everything going against it. Favorite match is probably OC and Mox. Loved this show."

Were there too many matches on this card? Yes. I think the FTR/Bucks vs Bullet Club match could have been moved to a Collision main event, and Eddie/Shibata vs Claudio and Yuta could have been on Dynamite. Those matches were quite good and fun, but they didn't need to be on ppv. Even with all of those matches, the card still ended just shy of the 4 hour mark which is about average for AEW ppvs. Extremely consistent with 4 fantastic matches, with the strap match and main event being legitimate match of the year contenders elevating this show to one of the best of the year."

Or maybe not stack two back to back huge shows in a row but TK decided to send it and this is the hodge podge card of a show we got. Opens up with MJF and AC vs Dork Order and they were able to, like many MJF matches, sustain the best story of the night with MJF selling his neck being injured and giving his team the big babyface comeback to get the fans hooked from the open. Solid match, much like the tag team match they had last week did nothing crazy but did enough to get the fans happy the kangeroo kick was nice. Samoa Joe vs Shane Taylor had me yawning, zero story at all and the small bump and brawl MJF and Joe had was more interesting than this match and most of the PPV. Luchasaurus retains vs Darby in a match that really should of had Darby go over because this is another TNT title match that will go down as very mediocre and unimpressive just like Luchasaurus's reign. Kris Statlander had a nice decently long match for once and while her work with Ruby was a bit sloppy I know both of them can do better in the ring and to be honest this was one of those matches that could of been on a Dynamite card. Danielson and Starks quite possibly had match of the night complete with Ricky Steamboat not quite knowing where he is at times.. BCC vs Eddie nonsense that I almost fell asleep watching, Takeshita and Omega having quite possibly THE MATCH of the night, an 8 man tag that not really anyone seemed to care for apart from the crowd getting some chants in on the Bucks. OC vs Mox is gonna be the most memorable match of the night, it was impressive how Mox won a match without bleeding and OC's selling was the best it has been his whole time in AEW in this match. Instead they delivered in every way and the crowd was wonderful. I dont believe there was a single bad match. MJF vs Samoa Joe is going to be a such a treat on the mic. Christian Cage and Luchasaurus continue to revitalize the TNT title. Miro vs Hobbs was all meat on meat (the angle after was odd but its still very early to judge). Toni Storm has completely reinvented herself with this new gimmick and I love it. Starks vs Danielson was fantastic and Im glad Starks got to have such an amazing showcase after the rumored Punk match was obviously scrapped. BCC vs Kingston/Shibata was fun and I like where things are headed with the Eddie vs Claudio feud (plus, Shibata wrestling still feels like a happy fever dream). BC Gold vs Bucks/FTR was a blast of an 8-man tag and the momentum BC Gold has is a major plus. Takeshita vs Omega and Mox vs Bloody Orange Cassidy were my personal favorites. Takeshita getting the win and Mox being International champ feel like major story beats thatll tie into WrestleDream and 2024. Mox is AEWs In case of emergency button and deserves all the recognition for it. The guy has stepped in every time hes had to and delivers every single time. Once again, a fantastic show from top to bottom."

[10.0] "From a pure in ring perspective the best top to bottom AEW show of all time in terms of quality and variety. AEW is doing more with less and the simple nature of the booking with clean finishes, top guys like Mox, Kenny, Danielson showing out. Singles matches, and great overperformances from Hobbs, Starks, and Dark Order - some of the best work in all of their careers it led to a magical show. The crowd reacted to literally every match here and every match was as good or above the expectations going into the show."

[10.0] "Clutch is a word that comes to mind. The whole roster felt like they just had a weight taken off their back, and the crowd started to follow suit pretty early on. I love that there were two very good and distinctly different hoss matches. I love that Ruby and Stadt killed it. I love that Chicago put good wrestling before anything else and never let the chants happen. The three singles matches featuring the top stars all overachieved. And for all the talk about build (I get it), this show is an example of what happens when you acknowledge entire careers, the entirety of the wrestling industry, events that happened ages ago are still part of the canon. Toshiaki Kawada being in attendance mattered to a story, a seven year NXT segment mattered to a story. Roman Reigns, a ten-year old DDT tag match, an uncelebrated old 200-day ROH TV title run, Bryan vs. Bray, Ruby's title failures, they all added to a story."

[10.0] "This was excellent pro wrestling top to bottom. All In was a decent show carried by the massive crowd but this was just truly great stuff. When Samoa Joe has arguably the weakest match on the card, you know the show is top notch. Speaking of, the way they set up Joe & MJF was so natural and so well-done, and that extends to pretty much every segment/story progression here, most notably Miro thinking his wife is an illusion. The only outright negative I can give to this show is that having Claudio just uppercut Eddie as a finish maybe 1-2 minutes earlier than the match felt like it should've gone was kind of lame; Eddie of all people is a guy that would benefit a lot from being heated up NOW even if he just pinned YUTA again or forced Claudio to cheat to beat him."

"Every match on this card delivered at a time when the company needed it. In one week's time AEW showed they could work a big stadium style show, then followed it up with a top to bottom wrestling clinic. The show included a fun sports entertainy style opener, one of the better "hoss fight" big man matches in recent memory, a captivating strap match, a brutal puro-esque tag match, and the conclusion to the strongest title run in company history. More importantly, a large number of star making performances came from this event, and that's why I believe it was a 10/10 show. looking forward to how they build off this show."

"The build was hurried, and many of the matches felt slapped together, but as is often the case, AEW delivers in-ring greatness when the bright lights of a PPV are rolling. I fully expected this to feel like a comedown from Wembley, but the matches were good to great across the board, and there were three legitimate notebook matches. My thoughts: MJF/Cole defeat Dark Order -- 3.25 stars. They, fortunately, didn't play it for comedy all that much, but MJF was "hurt" in the back for a long time, and then came in and rallied them for the win, including a Kangaroo kick. I'm glad they got this out of the way upfront. But as they were walking up the aisle, Samoa Joe was coming down for his match and shoved Max. And Max couldn't take it even though he was "hurt" and ran in and attacked Joe, and Joe beat the crap out of him (because Max was hurt). Eventually, "security" had to pull them apart. Clearly, MJF has a program coming up with Joe. Samoa Joe defeats Shane Taylor -- 3.25 stars. Slow bout as two big boys were in the ring. Shane Taylor is like a poor man's Joe, who is a shadow of prime Joe. This was okay, but had enough big hits that I enjoyed it for what it was. Luchasaurus defeats Darby Allin -- 3 stars. Probably my least favorite match of the night. There were a few big spots but some botches and a lack of chemistry. Luchasaurus winning convincingly has me wondering what the plan is for Darby going forward. And why wasn't Sting out there? I know skinny Nicky was in his corner, but Sting picks and chooses when he's got his boy's back? Miro defeats Powerhouse Hobbs -- 3.75 stars. Wow, yes! Whereas Joe and Taylor were two fat ass giants, these guys are gigantic and YOKED. Imposing mother effers who just traded POUNDINGS. Slaps, punches, clotheslines. This really felt like they were working stiff and trying to hurt each other. A great end to the match, too as Miro goes for his finisher, Hobbs breaks out of it, goes for the finisher, it doesn't work, and Miro goes for his finisher a second time and wins via submission. But their story isn't over as Hobbs got up from the loss and started beating down Miro. As he was choking Miro out, CJ Perry showed up to a huge pop. She ran in, hit Hobbs with a chair. He laughed and turned around but was slow to react b/c he presumably didn't want to beat up a woman. As he was staring her down, Miro woke up and beat Hobbs up with the chair. But Miro, for some reason, was pissed at CJ for being out there and left her in disgust, leaving Perry standing in the ring looking sad. The crowd had no idea what to make of that. Statlander defeats Ruby Soho -- 3 stars. This has its moments, but mainly because Ruby Soho is pretty damn good. Statlander is beefy and looks tough sometimes, but she's clumsy in the ring, and there were some botches. What's weird is Toni Storm came out and distracted Soho to help Statlander win. Why the face champ would get help from a heel, who's supposed to be in the same stable as the challenger, is nonsensical, even if they're building to Storm and the Outsiders being on the rocks. Bryan Danielson defeats Ricky Starks -- 4.50 stars. This was awesome. Brutal. Used the strap and the no-DQ to its fullest. These guys were busted open, bleeding, and just slapping the crap out of each other for what felt like an hour. And the storytelling was amazing in-ring as Starks continues to be a super-talented dude who just can't quite get over the hump. But there were a few things about the match (outside of the in-ring) that bothered me. One, Steamboat needs to be put to pasture. He kept calling Danielson "Donaldson" like a fucking senile old bastard. And called Starks "Stark." And why Danielson is playing the role of the face defending Steamboat's honor when he's the leader of the BCC in their heel mode is beyond me. BCC defeats Kingston/Shibata -- 3.25 stars. You can't have the ROH champ lose to two mid-card champs, particularly when neither are key part of AEW plans. And that's exactly what happened as Claudio was the best wrestler in the match and got the W. Kingston is a slob, and he's not very good in the ring. He has a few tricks, but he just repeats them over and over on the mic and in the ring. He serves his purpose, but he should never be a guy who wins a lot or holds any title of import. Shibata is a shadow of his former self, but I still love that he's back in the ring. Takeshita defeats Kenny Omega -- 4.5 stars. I really wished they didn't have the announcer tell everyone Omega was 2-0 against Takeshita during the walk ins, because it telegraphed that Takeshita was going to win. If you announce the record of everyone all night, then okay. But when you only do it for this match, you're spoiling it. Ugh. But fortunately, that didn't hinder an amazing match. There were a few missed spots including Kenny totally missing on one of his big kicks, but they played the mistakes off and had a ton of other big spots that worked well and told a great story. Omega is such a great performer and we're lucky to get to see him every week. Bullet Club Gold defeats Bucks/FTR -- 3.50 stars. Given the talent involved, this was a disappointment. FTR and the Bucks are capable of 5 star matches, and this wasn't close to that level. But they had some cool moments where the choreography was on point, including a sequence when all four faces did the same move in sync to the heels. And having Bullet Club win made sense b/c they're supposed to be more cohesive and genuinely allied. Moxley defeats Orange Cassidy -- 4.25 stars. OC was GUSHING blood, non-stop. Dude took a beating, showed a ton of energy, and there were a bunch of near falls for both guys. OC earned every bit of this beating and was defiant up until the ending pinfall."

[10.0] "Despite the incredibly short build and seemingly weak card, this show blew away all my expectations and winded up being one of the best PPV events of the year. It is neck and neck with WM Night 1 and Revolution for my top spot. The Chicago crowd was fantastic, switched on and engaged without being overly smarky, which was a concern considering the Punk situation. Almost all of the matches ranged from good to excellent, with only one or two feeling like filler. Some notable highlights for me, the opener was a good tag match that continued the exciting and tense "will they won't they" saga with Cole and MJF. Miro and Hobbs was an unexpected delight; who ever thought that two big dudes beating each other up could be so much fun? Danielson vs Starks was excellent and bar none the best strap match I've ever seen, Omega v Takeshita was a fast paced thrill ride that successfully elevated Takeshita into a big star, the eight-man tag was a wonderful bit of popcorn wrestling layered with intricate story beats and callbacks, and the main event was a gritty stunner that made Cassidy come across as a megastar. Moxley deserves a great deal of credit for the way he elevates his opponents even in defeat. The last four match stretch might be one of the best AEW have ever put on. Their backs were against the wall, and AEW responded with an immensely entertaining show that told many great stories and featured about 5 different matches that could be conceivably be considered as MOTN. Can't ask for much more. A superb effort."
