1716.08.2022SimonCopp9.0*Rating is for tournament matches only* The main was great and there were three other very good matches. Easily the best night of this year's G1 to date.
1816.08.2022PavelDragunov8.0Firstly, for the first time in a long time, all tournament matches were very successful. Even Toru Yano did not stand out from the bad side. Secondly, every winner and loser gets something more than just a victory. Finally, in the third we get one of the best tournament days to watch. Zack Sabre Jr. is so good that I would boldly give him this tournament. Jay White is still the king and in fact he can win and choose his own test. Takagi/Ospreay are showing an epic fight again and now they are both big favorites in the eyes of fans, to give such a spectacle and not win, I don't believe, someone is clearly one of them in the front ranks. I welcome such shows standing up! Like.

2210.08.2022Tyler727.0This is certainly the best G1 event so far. In particular the block matches stood out the most, with each match getting better and better following Zack Sabre Jr. and Hirooki Goto.

2510.08.2022arrancar6.0Definitely the best show of the 2022 G1 so far, but it's still only 'alright' at best because, outside of the awesome main-event, there were only a handful of merely 'good' matches here at best. ELP vs Yoshi was pretty good. ELP's high-flying attacks and agile all looked very good, while Yoshi impressed with his scrappy babyface-selling and intense strikes. Their big-move trades became quite creative and exciting, and it was cool seeing them take each other to their limit. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Archer vs Yano was good as far as comedy matches go. Lance's monstrous character work was pretty entertaining, and even Yano's schtick was pretty entertaining. I usually dislike Yano's done-to-death buffoonery, but for whatever reason his chemistry here with Archer was really good. **1/2. Goto vs Sabre was very by-the-numbers, with neither man doing anything too creative but still putting together a pretty good match. Sabre's submissions and limb-targeting was great as always, and his striking was really good too. Goto was the same as always, with limited character work but at least an array of decently impactful attacks. Their chemistry was very good, though the match was at its best whenever Sabre was directing it while showing off his complex transitions and submissions out of nowhere. Their big-move trades and counters at the end were all good, with a few being pretty impressively creative, though most were just the usual from the both of them. ***1/4 - ***1/2. O-Khan vs Jay was low-key good but definitely my least favourite of all the good matches on the show. It had the usual slow Jay singles-match pacing as he did his beatdown work, all of which looked good but which wasn't always too exciting. O-Khan's submissions, strikes, and power moves all looked decent, and they improved in the 2nd half, though his gimmick spots were still quite dorky and hard to take seriously. Jay's offence looked much more brutal towards the end, though he and O-Khan didn't have the most exciting exchanges leading to the finish. ***1/4. Shingo vs Ospreay was an awesome athletic display. Their chemistry was ridiculously smooth, allowing them to constantly impress as they ran through counter after counter, playing off of how well they knew each other, thus explaining how they could predict what the other would do, with the creativity of those counters improving more as the match went on. Unlike other "spotfests" these days, these 2 maintained a great degree of realism to their interactions, never becoming too slow or overly cooperative, and always executing everything with fantastic impact. The few "no-sell" moments were justified due to Ospreay's already established fantastic agility which naturally countered Shingo's power, and they both still took time to sell their pain and deteriorating physicality/cardio in-between those big trades. Easily, by at least 1000 miles, the match of the tournament thus far. ****1/4

2809.08.2022samirandres14289.0Eight Man Tag Team Match: Pretty nice opening match for this card. Something that we don't usually see with House of Torture, a few sheenaningans into the match. Great thing here. Almost a good one. Pretty intense and with a great showing for Oiwa. [***3/4]; Aaron Henare & Jeff Cobb VS Royce Isaacs & Tom Lawlor: Maybe the slowly wrestling style from the four wrestlers didn't help a lot to put a lot of hype into the battle. The obvious United Empire win was also something that didn't add to the match. Henare every day looks stronger, that's cool. Adequate match. [**1/4]; Bad Luck Fale, Juice Robinson & KENTA VS BUSHI, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito: Another interesting tag match for Los Ingobernables. The initial cameo was funny, actually really funny to see Naito acting like that. Then everyone just acomplished the expectances of the match and put an enjoyable battle. Satisfactory. [***3/4]; Hiroshi Tanahashi & Kazuchika Okada VS Bad Dude Tito & JONAH: Great to watch the dream team putting over these new future stars of New Japan. The match itself was just adequate, some nice tag spots from Tana and Okada, and the usual intensity of TDMK. Adequate match. [**1/2]; El Phantasmo VS YOSHI-HASHI: What a fantastic battle, great to see the progress of YOSHI-HASHI day by day during all the year. Both wrestlers put a great show and sold the battle as one of the most remarkables of the tournament. Great to see this. With more minutes it would habe been a 5 star match. Great. [****3/4]; Lance Archer VS Toru Yano: Maybe the funniest match of the tournament until the momento. Archer played really well his despicable monster character, against a coward Yano who almost gets the victory. Í'm just rating this so high because I had a great time watching this. GOOD match. [****]; Hirooki Goto VS Zack Sabre Jr.: Another great match, pretty brutal and savage as Zack has been behaving during all the tournament. Goto knew how to follow his match pace, until it almost felt like a MMA battle. Good good match. [****1/2]; Jay White VS Great-O-Khan: One of the best Jay White's matches I've seen. Great performance with a very well-conducted Khan. It's great to see how this kind of wrestlers that you don't expect too much of them, surprise you and bring this wuality of wrestling. Good match. [****1/2]; Shingo Takagi VS Will Ospreay: Surely their best match since this gigantic rivalry began a few years ago. Counter by counter by counter, the reversals these men did were insane, the chemistry they have it's unbealivable. Great match, one of my favorites of the year. [*****]; Great show, a lot of good surprising matches packed overall the card, and a homerun main event battle. I'm really happy to see this. Great show. [****3/4]
2909.08.2022XXDoubleHHXX10.0This was the best night of G1 action that I don't think the rest of the tournament can top. I was screaming OH MY GOD like I was Rich Evans.at every moment was exciting and I can wait to be caught up.

3208.08.2022norahdarp9.0I thought that was the best night of G1 tournament matches so far. Although not every match was a perfect match, they were all entertaining for their own reasons. The best match of the night being Ospreay v. Takagi, as that match was the best one of the tournament so far. 9/10

4607.08.2022Wright1510.0From 2013 to 2019, there was always at least one show in the G1 that wasn't just good, not just great, but was outstanding, a night filled with excellent singles bouts that outperform expectations, and a even a match of the year candidate. The pandemic really damaged that streak, but this show was a return to form. Every singles match was at least four stars (with the exception of Yano vs Archer, but that match was hilarious and was actually one of Yano's best matches ever). And of course, Ospreay and Takagi can do no wrong together. I do not say this lightly, but I think there has never been a pair of wrestlers with better chemistry.

6106.08.2022GOK4E9.0The best day of this G1 so far. Two very good matches and two awesome matches. Even the Yano's match was nice. Almost a perfect show.
6206.08.2022Childofthelost10.0The best day of the tournament so far, capped off by the best match of the tournament so far. This was a very good watch. The tourney is beginning to wind down and now even more people have been eliminated as we build to the finals. Good stuff.
6306.08.2022Dragon Master Adam9.0Three really great matches and a funny match thrown in. The main event was very good even if it didnt live up to the previous Shingo vs Ospreay matches!
6406.08.2022BUIOOMEGA8.0El Phantasmo/YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto/Zack Sabre Jr. and Shingo Takagi/Will Ospreay. Three matches that make this the best Climax day of the year.
