SANADA I hope he didn't start the eye injury again and everything is fine with him and he will continue to please. As a result, an ordinary tournament day that is not intended to surprise, but rather it has become another everyday show. |

27.07.2022 | arrancar | 5.0 | Another of the more mediocre days of this year's G1, with 2 pretty good matches but nothing 'must-see'. Yujiro vs ELP was alright, but ELP had to carry it all himself with his entertaining antics and impressive athletic spots. Yujiro's offence was sadly very mediocre and at times rather poor, not at all making for a credible threat to ELP. The interference and cheap tactics at the end actually ended up being quite entertaining because of how well ELP played them while outsmarting Yujiro. **1/2. Taichi vs Sanada was pretty good and my MOTN by a slight edge. Sanada's attacks were enjoyably smooth and agile, while Taichi's attacks all had good impact and made for some exciting flurries. Their chemistry together was mostly quite strong. Some of their exchanges looked a bit underwhelming or sloppy, but they had many more well-timed and generally cool spots and exchanges as the match progressed. They got a bit overkill at times, but their rapid move-trades and counters were all very well executed and quite creative, with their resulting near falls up being impressively convincing. ***1/4 - ***1/2. Fale vs Cobb was painfully boring but at least had a logical story. Fale's control work was just trash because of his non-existent cardio and energy, plus his inability to direct his large size towards any convincingly powerful-looking offence. Cobb did his best with his slick attacks and extremely impressive strength-displays, but it wasn't enough to make this good because of just how bad Fale was. **. Tanahashi vs Naito was pretty good but disappointing considering the high standards expected of these two world-class talents. Their character work was good, as was their body-part-targeting, with Naito targeting the neck and Tanahashi targeting the leg. They had some good exchanges, spots, counters, 50/50 trades, and near falls as the match went on, but it was jarring to see neither man properly selling their injured body part (except whenever it was targeted in real time). I expected far more consistent and meaningful selling from these 2, but maybe they didn't want to bother considering this was 'only' a random G1 Block match instead of a major title match, a tournament finals, etc. Still a good match with some exciting moments, but they should have known to work a bit harder and smarter. ***1/4 - ***1/2
27.07.2022 | Rossg17 | 8.0 | The tag matches were okay but forgettable, El Phantasmo vs Yujiro Takahashi: *, SANADA vs Taichi: ***, Jeff Cobb vs Bad Luck Fale: *1/4, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Tetsuya Naito: ****3/4
27.07.2022 | Bushi59 | 5.0 | Overrated show here imo. ELP had to carry the whole match against Yujiro, Fale/Cobb was over-terrible. I don't understand the rating.

26.07.2022 | norahdarp | 7.0 | I thought that was a good overall night of G1 action. The warmup matches were better than usual, and the G1 matches were good too, with the exception of Cobb v. Fale. Taichi v. SANADA was match of the night. 7/10

25.07.2022 | XXDoubleHHXX | 8.0 | Not as good as day 4 but it's still a very good card. TMDK and Team Filthy are working with new teams. Hirooki Goto having a blast in his tag match, Yujiro being my absolute favorite and Tanahashi and Naito being banger of a main event. Only one bad match and that was the brawl between Fale and Cobb that wasn't anything special.

25.07.2022 | jreidmke | 7.0 | Another strong showing in the G1. ELP v. Yujiro turned in a better than expected performance from the latter and some hilarious manager business with Pieter. Taichi continues to surprise this G1. Not one I get excited seeing his name on a card, but this and his battle against Ishii have both slapped. Cobb did all the worthwhile stuff in his bout w/ Fale. MOTN: duh, Naito v. Tanahashi. Always fun seeing Tanahashi lean into some heel stuff. Ending got me unexpectedly emotional, mostly due to affection for the loser. Good G1 so far.
25.07.2022 | SimonCopp | 6.0 | *Rating is for tournament matches only* A good main, Taichi vs SANADA was decent and the other two matches were just there.
25.07.2022 | samirandres1428 | 9.0 | Hirooki Goto, Toru Yano & YOSHI-HASHI VS Dick Togo, EVIL & SHO: This was a satisfactory one, the match got some new interactions between both teams and even some hot reactions from the crowd. I really miss the chanting. Nice match. [***]; Chase Owens & KENTA VS Royce Isaacs & Tom Lawlor: Also another satisfactory match for the New Japan strong team. Tom Lawlor keeps delivering some interesting showings, and building his next match versus KENTA. Royce and Chase were good too. Satisfactory match. [***1/4]; Bad Dude Tito & JONAH VS BUSHI & Shingo Takagi: Wow, great to see some changes to the final results right here into the NJ strong guys. Their inclusion to the tournament surely won't give them a chance to main event The Wrestle Kingdom, but instead they're giving some nice and satisfactory matches. [***1/2]; Lance Archer, TAKA Michinoku & Zack Sabre Jr. VS Aaron Henare, Great-O-Khan & Will Ospreay: This was as expected, both factions making their job inside the ring, and once again the United Empire as the dominators of this business. The match was just more than adequate. [**1/2]; David Finlay, Kazuchika Okada & Tama Tonga VS Gedo, Jay White & Juice Robinson: And ending with this part of the show, another satisfactory battle. I'm really hoping to see that intense match with Juice and Finlay, and for sure the Tama VS White. [***1/4]; G1 Climax 2022 Block D Match: ELP really made me laugh during all the match. He is one of the unique wrestlers who can get so easily a pretty decent match from Yujiro. The beggining was great, succeding with some ok action, and a pretty nice ending. Feeling this as more than just a satisfactory match. [***1/2]; Taichi VS SANADA: Very well done, congratulations to both wrestlers for having such a enjoyable match. I think we all can agree in the fact of Taichi's improvance during these last two years. His matches as a overall, but most his in-ring skills and his body shape. Good match. [****1/4]; Bad Luck Fale VS Jeff Cobb: Just for that suplex and the tour to the island, this match deserves a satisfactory rating. I really expect this doesn't mean a Cobb injury in the near future. [***]; G1 Climax 2022 Block C Match: This was really one of their best matches working together. Everything in the match engaged pretty well to put an awesome main event. The context of this rivalry built by the commentators helped us to ubiquate the importance of this encounter. The in-ring action was great, more brutal and carnal than always have been. When Naito avoided his and Tanahashi's count out making that both entered into the ring, that was everything. I really liked this, pretty good match. [****3/4]; Another pretty good night of the G1. I didn't want to watch this show in particular, I thought I would loss my time. Instead of that, I had some really great surprises and felt excited as ever happens to me with NJPW. Good show. [****1/4]
24.07.2022 | BUIOOMEGA | 7.0 | A good day for the Climax. Now I wanna see Tom Lawlor, good matches from start to finish, very good show.
24.07.2022 | Childofthelost | 8.0 | Another nice day of G1 action. The undercard was good and built to future matches nicely. SANADA/Taichi and Tana/Naito were both great while ELP/Yuj & Cobb/Fale both were shockingly solid. Don't have many complaints. ELP, SANADA, Jeff Cobb and Hiroshi Tanahashi are finally on the board with two points and they can begin to get back into the running for winning. Naito is now 0-2 and will begin to get desperate as his dreams of winning get further away. The Pieter/ELP stuff could be a sign of BC and House Of Torture finally going their own way. A lot of story progress this show.
