[5.0] "The hype really ended up hurting this show didn't it? Billed as GCW biggest show it really felt like a fart in church. On paper this card rules. The NYSAC seemed to have other plans though. From the hard cut off curfew to not letting Nick Wayne perform. The New York State Athletic Commission is a farce. Little rant over. The show felt rushed with most matches only getting about ten minutes. This really hurt certain matches. The last three of the card sticking out the most with the main event going a whopping FIVE MINUTES. With everything working against it the show was still fun and cool to attend. Hearing Separate Ways hit the speakers in Hammerstein really was something special."

"The 6 man tag was good but this may be the worst wrestling show I've ever watched from start to finish. A dud considering the amount of eyes they had on them for this one."

[6.0] "This show was disappointing, not because it was bad, but because it had had so much hype that truly nothing could have lived up to it. The most memorable match was certainly Cardona v. Janella, but that isn't necessarily because it was good. Way to much nothing for 20 minutes of match. This left the main event with almost no time to tell their story and get done before the PPV time ran out on satellite. I hope they get a chance to do it again and maybe have some time to actually practice before hand."

There in New York so no deathmatches and you can tell the crowd wanted them so bad. It's just so mediocre that I regret buying the show because it did cost more money."

[1.0] "If you love what GCW's about, then you'll love this show. If you aren't a big fan of GCW (like myself) then some things might be hit or miss, or even worse. Despite all of this, GCW should have props for selling out Hammerstein. Even then, the show went on too long which caused the rest of the matches to be cut short. If you have the biggest show in your company's history and you have pretty much all of your wrestlers take pins, is it really that much of a win'"
DanTalksRasslin wrote on 02.04.2022:
[4.0] "GCW's sell-out crowd at the Hammerstein was an important moment for the company, but the show itself was something of a let-down. To be sure, there was some decent action - the lucha trios match and Blake Christian vs. Lio Rush were good, Mox vs. Homicide was solid, and while it might have been a bit overlong, the Cardona vs. Janela match did feature some good heel work from Cardona and Chelsea Green and managed to capture a bit of an ECW vibe in its overbooking. In the other two singles bouts, was also disappointing to see both of the GCW home-grown babyfaces lose their respective matches - since Jarrett seems to be sticking around for a bit, him going over Effy at this point was OK, but since he won that one Katch should've gone over Soho. The Briscoes vs. Gage/Tremont main event suffered from a bad case of Blackcraft syndrome (rushed due to building curfew), and never had a chance to get going after the entrances; clearly something should have been cut down/out to improve the pacing."
Four Pillars of Hell wrote on 02.02.2022:
[2.0] "The GCW show at the Hammerstein is easily top-to-bottom the worst full show I have ever seen in that venue. Giving the Briscoes 4 minutes so gag and Tremont could get 5 minute entrances, the instant ladder botch, not even ringing the bell for half the matches, Allie Katch being genuinely atrocious as a worker, and the 20 minute carny show Cardona and Janela put on all made me groan. they're so obviously not ready for a building of that size that it hurts them significantly, terrible show. Jarrett saved it with his showing but Effy is genuinely terrible so I can't even give them that."

[6.0] "I really enjoyed everything until the Soho-Katch match, which both killed the crowd and was the start of the downfall of this show. Effy also should have won his match, and obviously the planning was poor which caused the main event to be 10-15 minutes less than it should have been. That being said I greatly enjoyed the 6 man tag, Blake Christian vs Lio Rush and the Cardona match. Moxley vs Homicide was solid but was hurt by the poor pacing of the show overall."

[2.0] "Not the 1st GCW show that I've watch, but this show was the first show that didn't come from AEW or Japan that I had some expectations since a long time, and I was very dissapointed. This show was not good at all. The good things were the crowd & 2 matches on the show. Except that, this show was a mess. Wrestling wise, it was bad. A lot of overbooking & unessecary overproduction. Event (by that, I mean big shows only) wise, it's maybe the worst show that I've seen thus far this year."
MaveDeltzer wrote on 27.01.2022:
[5.0] "I think the first four matches on this show flew by. They weren't all great but I enjoyed the pacing. Things dropped off after that en route to a main event which was incredibly anti-climactic. The second half of this show really dragged things down and the crowd seemed to be spent after Janella vs Cardona."
Germanx15fan wrote on 26.01.2022:
[3.0] "Just not a very enjoyable show. Too much overbooking in some matches, other matches were overhyped, and the PPV time constraints led to the main event being cut incredibly short."
Sloppy Sammy wrote on 25.01.2022:
[2.0] "This was my first watching a GCW show and honestly it was super disappointing. The opener was fine and the Lucha match was awesome but aside from that it was pretty boring. Cardona vs Janela in particular was just awful, like to the point where i wonder if anyone involved was actually taking it seriously. Like my guys, you both know that the payoff to the angle goes at the end of the match right' These guys were given 20 minutes to fuck around and have just the shittest overbooked match straight out of WCW 2001 in all the worst ways and the crowd was basically dead the entire match. Ruby Soho vs Allie Katch was just boring, like the announcers are trying to put this thing as a dream match and there is just no fire or intensity or heat to this match. Jeff Jarret vs Effy was a good tv main event on PPV, like i want to see where this thing goes but this ain't going to salvage this show. Mox vs Homicide was just ok, though at this point in the show people were just checking their cellphones and just tuned out of the whole show in general. The main event completely soured me on this show, because clearly they had given so much time to stupid shit that they had to cut the ppv for time and thus the main event went under six minutes! If GCW is going to keep putting on nationwide PPV events they need to do way better than this. The production issues really dragged this show way down, in addition to the mediocre match quality. A six minute main event just isn't going to cut it."

[6.0] "Very nice from the point of view of references to the last show, a lot of bright appearances, X-Pac is back in the ring - it's great. But the quality of the fights is debatable, the closer to the main match, the worse the fights. I hoped that the show would improve with each match, but the arrangement of the fights let me down. It would be better if the first two matches were in the middle, and Moxley was removed at the beginning of the show."

TheFunkyCactus wrote on 25.01.2022:
"This was my first ever GCW show. It seemed like the crowd was mostly dead throughout the night. I suspect the bad audio to be the cause of this however. The opening ladder match was very messy, with botches and lots of standing around. I enjoyed the Trios match, it was the best match on this card in my opinion but average at best. Matt Cardona really shines in this promotion and looks/sounds like a star. His match with Janela was an overbooked mess and as a new viewer made very little sense to me. It was great seeing how in shape Double J still is and I didn't mind his encounter with Effy for what it was. This was my first time seeing Effy in action and the man has a certain kind of charisma that makes me want to see more. The Mox vs Homicide match was ok but a major let down for your World Title match at your biggest show. The main event was the worst match on the card. I get that Nick Gage is super over but what a gigantic waste of The Briscoes. This was a very poor show in terms of match quality and actual wrestling but for some reason I found it to be an easy watch. It was such a janky mess I think it gave me a weird nostalgia feels for early 2000 independent wrestling. It wasn't offensively bad and I am willing to give GCW another shot down the road but for now I would say this show is very skippable."

HardcoreSquaredB2 wrote on 25.01.2022:
"As a GCW fan, I have to say this was the same typical show from the company, some decent matches, some "okay" matches and matches that really had no reason either being on the card or being rushed. I hate to talk negatively on a product but they really need to step up on their sound issues because it truly takes away from the product. I want to hear the fans and the in-ring action, not the "edgy" dads on commentary. For being one of their biggest shows in company history, this was a complete and utter let down."
TheRabbitInTheBush wrote on 25.01.2022:

[2.0] "First GCW PPV so I've no loyalty to stop me saying - in isolation, this sucked as a PPV. It made for a nice distraction though. The jankiness I could mostly handle, but there was a weird heat-killing vibe to some of the matches that worked against the audience. Say what you will about Cardona's match but they at least kept the crowd involved. The other four singles matches were actually boring - not the vibe I expected from GCW. The trios match was the highlight, and I'm now a fan of Gringo Loco. But not worth the money or time."

[7.0] "This was a good GCW show. The PPV time constraint really hurt the last few matches. The Lucha six-man tag and the Matt Cardona/Janela match stood out. I know people expected FTR, but Nick Gage in the main event of GCW's biggest show felt so right."
2kOP wrote on 24.01.2022:
"This was my first time ever watching GCW live. I've seen clips here and there but heading into this, I was excited. This was hyped up to be their biggest show and... it fell flat on its face. The Cardona/Janela match felt longer than watching an Andrei Tarkovsky film. It was nice to see Moxley show up. The Fuck Bully Ray chants was the highlight of the show for me."
SimonCopp wrote on 24.01.2022:
[1.0] "The best match on the show was the lucha six man which was merely decent. Mox vs Homicide & Effy vs Double J was fine but every other match was mediocre at best. The production was atrocious. The picture kept cutting out and the sound was all over the place. Not announcing Gresham was off the show beforehand was a really scummy move. This is easily the worst show I've watched in a long time. GCW got their wish of this being a statement show but for all the wrong reasons. Avoid like the plague."
Quanthor wrote on 24.01.2022:
[5.0] "This was GCW celebrating itself. In what should have been the best event in the company's history ultimately was pretty mediocre and disappointing. Even with Mox and Gage back, they did little to reassure fans, both die hard and casual that they're ready for a bigger stage or that they're righting the ship after a few lackluster months. We'll see if they get a spike in interest or if they can pick up where they left off pre Fight Club."
Lalo Campos wrote on 24.01.2022:

[5.0] "overall this show really fell flat. the two preshow matches were fun, the trios match was goated and the rush/christian match made those two stars in my book. the main event was great with the surprises, but was rushed due to time restraints. they should've cut the cardona and janella garbage out completley, right finish, but too long and terrible."
lukerocker9 wrote on 24.01.2022:
[6.0] "The six man tag was MOTN by a long shot, Christian/Rush was really good and comes in second place for me, Moxley/Homicide was good but a bit short, Cardona/Janela was great in the first half but went on way too long, The main event being so short and rushed was a dissapointment, the rest of the card was mostly fine. So 6 out of 10 for me"

[3.0] "I watch a lot of GCW and this show totally missed the mark. Had some solid stuff but was way too off base from regular GCW for this to really be a GCW show. It's like they tried to use a Spring Break like show to catch more people in but the matches were bad, so who would care' This was a big pat ourselves on the back show but they didnt do any work here to gain any of that self adulation. I thought 44OH, SGC only getting a mid show weak segment was an absolute bummer. Justice and Cogar are usually some of the best matches on GCW lately and neither did anything here. I get they cant do a death match in NYC but give them something. Really showed where Bret was at on this show with trying to draw in a new crowd that so much of the core was kind of alienated."
fpejic wrote on 24.01.2022:

But at the end of the day I really enjoyed it and was happy to be there especially for the ending match. Seeing Gage return and receive a king's welcome was fully worth the bad main title match and the short main. Not the best GCW show but better than I expected."
BenDenV6 wrote on 24.01.2022:
[7.0] "I had very high expectations but the results just felt sort of flat. Maybe I just don't get why people love GCW so much. It's not that I hate it, but I just don't feel the same level excitement as a lot of people about their product. The Lucha match was fun but had no heat and Gringo Loco picking up the pin made little sense. Ruby Soho/Allie Katch was MOTN for me. The main event seemed anticlimactic and awkward as it had no heat. I feel like it was a bit of a rush job to get the titles off the Briscoes before they presumably go to AEW. I don't understand putting JJ over in his match with Effy. I don't think people want to see more of that. Cardona/Janela had the best build but had terrible pacing and wasn't a very good match. I'm glad I saw it but this didn't make me want to pay for any more GCW shows."

Overall, a decent, fun show. Ladder Match was cool. Cardona/Janela was overbooked to hell but fun. World Title match was also cool but I think Homicide should have won. In conclusion, it was a great show but overhyped a bit too much. I get what they were trying to go for from a historical viewpoint with this being the first GCW show in Hammerstein, but wrestling-wise, it underdelivered in some parts."
