[5.0] "There are many mediocre tag team matches, but the main event is high-quality, and Luger vs. Flyin' Brian is decent. [7.0] "There was a plenty of good stuff here interrupted by mediocrity and filler. Freebirds/Road Warriors was something, I guess. Freebirds had too much offense here, and personally I wasn't fan of Freebirds run in NWA in this period of time. There was just a plenty of better teams around, as showcased on this event. Overall I didn't find this match as offensive as others, but I guess it was just an excuse to get Road Warriors on this card for later segment. **1/4 Following tag match was glorified squash and I didn't mind it. Again, one more in the filler part of the show, same story with Doom like with Road Warriors. They were building up to that big chaos tag team Iron Man gimmick at Starrcade. **1/2 Midnight/Dudes match kicked ass. Crowd was woke up and shook up hard by this one. Whole Cornette thing where they were making you think he is siding with Dudes just to fuck them up in the end was great. Bobby and Shane had really good chemistry. Finish was red hot. Just a great match all around. ***3/4 Dr. Death squash match was really fun. I have rule that squash match can get **1/4 at best. If not for Santa stuff going on ringside as distraction (although fun one) it would be higher, but we'll have to settle for ** here. Didn't really have to be on this card but whatever. Steiners/Skyscrapers was way more fun than supposed. Spivey and both of Steiners were awesome and Sid was slowing them down but what we got was good enough. Outside of crappy finish it was quick throw the nukes type of match to pop the crowd and set up the chaotic post match fight. Makes you wanna see the rematch. *** Luger/Pillman was had a great fucking story and they were building up to something until the obvious cold slap of reality of a finish with Luger cheating to win and then beating the crap out of Brian until Sting showed up to have confrontation with his alleged friend. They abandoned the promising arm working subplot which doesn't take too much away but is noticeable. Crowd was quite supportive for heel Luger. Great stuff for the most of time. ***3/4 Main event is obviously legendary. Flair was in his element as usual, but Funk really helped to carry this to all time great level. Flair was hitting chops like never before and Terry was selling like crazy. Finish was fucking masterpiece as Ric finally gets payback by forcing Terry to quit and show him respect after everything that went down between them. Terry going from refusing to quit to realising the painful situation he is in and giving Flair the decisive I quit, with all theatrics and selling, what a moment. However, I wish they invested more in the stipulation itself. Idk it just doesn't hit as hard as 5 star match should. There was something missing. Maybe I watched it so many times that it doesn't hit as hard as first time, but again I watched HBK/Taker match million times and I like it more each time i watch it. Giving this 5 stars wouldn't be wrong either. Just my opinion. Take a drink for every time Ric has an all timer match in 89 and you'll be even more drunk than Ric himself. What a finale of one of my favorite rivalries ever. ****3/4"

[4.0] "A show that was all over the place in terms of quality, mostly tacking toward mediocre-to-bad, though the penultimate match with Flyin' Brian doing his best to carry Lex Luger balanced out the prior problems just the slightest bit. The main event blew everything else out of the water with an all-time-great match in Flair vs Funk, the only thing actually worth going out of your way to see."

[7.0] "A very good show with one stinker, but it didn't bother me much since the other undercard matches were at least solid, and the main event stuff was phenomenal. Of course, there's the brilliant Funk vs Flair match, which was even better than their Great American Bash bout. This time, they fully utilized the stipulation, turning it into a wild brawl full of energy while still avoiding the garbage wrestling Terry would lean into a decade later. Luger vs Pillman was another fantastic rematch - a fast-paced bout with a great underdog performance from Brian and more incredible heel work from Lex. Additionally, The Steiners vs Sid & Spivey was a fun watch, Gilbert and Rich did a great job putting over Doom, and Midnight Express vs The Dudes had a hilarious atmosphere as the crowd once again turned on Ace and Douglas. Overall, the show was well-structured, getting better with every passing minute until reaching the main attractions, though I could've done without the awful opener."

[8.0] "A couple of bollocks matches to get us going but they're quickly forgotten once the crowd wake up for the Midnights turn and then it's just ever-increasing levels of fun until the main event which is absolutely tremendous wrestling, with a memorable post-match angle."

[6.0] "This was a pretty average show to be honest. There were three random tag matches that were barely five minutes (two of which with non-finishes) an actually good tag match, Pillman and Luger having an epic rematch, and an all time classic main event."

[7.0] "It's really all thanks to the main event that this show earns its rating, as this show certainly kicked off with a whimper. Things picked up with the Midnight Express vs. Dynamic Dudes, but even then there was nothing all too special taking place. Luger vs. Pillman kicked it up another notch and is definitely worth checking out, but Flair vs. Funk is obviously the centrepiece of this show and what everybody is here to see, and it's a fitting conclusion to a classic rivalry. I really enjoy the beatdown to close the show, too, which does a great job of establishing Luger as a top heel. If you only choose to watch the main event then I certainly wouldn't blame you, but at only 2 hours if you've got the time to spare then there's some decent stuff in the undercard as well."

[8.0] "I'm amazed that I'm giving this show an 8, because I spent most of the show thinking that it was actively bad. However, a couple of strong matches and a good closing angle saved this show. We opened with a horrendous match between the Road Warriors and the Fabulous Freebirds that I feared would set the tone for the entire evening. We then got another pretty terrible match between Doom and Tommy Rich and Eddie Gilbert. Finallym things pick up with a pretty good match between the Midnight Express and the Dynamic Dudes. the quality immediately dips again ad Steve Williams squashes the Super Destroyer (Jack Victory). The Skyscrapers and the Steiner Brothers then had a dull match that Dave Meltzer inexplicably liked. We got our one title match next, as Lex Luger defended his United States Heavyweight Title against Flyin' Brian in a match that wasn't as good as their match at Halloween Havoc, but was still quite good. Finally, we got an awesome I Quit Match between Ric Flair and Terry Funk that scored an easy Match of the Night."

[7.0] "In my personal ratings I gave this a 6.5/10 and normally I round down, but with some of the matches on this card I'm gonna round up. This is known as the show where Flair and Funk blow off their feud with a great I Quit match. A really good US Title rematch from Halloween Havoc takes place here as well. The Dr. Death/Super Destroyer match here sucked; which I'm throwing out there here since it can't be rated. This Clash was a bit of a breath of fresh air after the last two."

[8.0] "A good show which marked the end of the Ric Flair/Terry Funk feud, one of my all-time favorite ones. The Sting and Ric Flair tandem ha da few more months left following this, and the undercard was pretty decent as well."

[8.0] "I remember this better than some others. It was a special card for me. Much of this card should have been the Starrcade, with all the matches going to a finish. The Luger-Pillman rivalry is a forgotten gem. Their match at the 89 Havoc and this one are spectacular. Cornette turning on the Dudes was a big moment for me. Flair versus Funk is a main event of a PPV, and should have been. I will always wonder why they did not have the Steiners win the titles live here versus the Freebirds, and instead show the taped win after the Clash. Would have certainly added to a great show."

[7.0] "A very up and down card. When it was great such as the main event or the two post match brawls then it was phenomenal but a lot of it was dull. Main event is must see."

[8.0] "What a spectacular show, with the I Quit bout between Ric Flair and Terry Funk as the clear highlight. There were other good-to-great matches here, particularly Luger vs. Pillman or Midnights vs. Dynamic Dudes, and it was just an overall great event."

[7.0] "Yet another great edition of Clash of the Champions in the spectacular year that was 1989. Squash matches asides, everything from the Midnight's turn to the US Title match all the way to the main event were all quality stuff."

[6.0] "The last two matches were particularly good but a few of the matches stunk real bad which brought the score down."

[7.0] "It was a good show, the weakest part of it - short tag matches with dubious finishes, the main purpose of which is to build to a bigger PPV. There are also minor flaws here and there, like Lex stop selling his arm completely and immediately after Brian stop working on it, or Flair not selling his neck after piledriver on concrete floor from Funk, but it was easy and entertaining to watch as a whole"

[8.0] "A great show with a well thought card and match lengths. The main event between Ric Flair and Terry Funk is a historical match, one of the most influentials of all time. Midnight Express vs Dynamic Dudes is the best of the three tag team matches, Luger vs Brian is underrated for its great quality even with a cheap finish. The post-match of the main event takes the Flair-Funk story to a new level."

[8.0] "Ric Flair was maybe never better than he was in 1989 in terms of match quality. Here he turns in yet another classic against Terry Funk in the I Quit match, after a string of legendary matches earlier in the year against Ricky Steamboat. While the rest of the card isn't as essential as the main event, there's still some good stuff here. The undercard placed a heavy emphasis on tag team action, with several good ones, notably Steiners vs. Skyscrapers and Dynamic Dudes vs. Midnight Express. There's also a pretty good US Title match between a heel Lex Luger and Brian Pillman. Good show with a great main event."
