"Yeah i did not care for this at all. Started well then fell off with the boring mindless violence, cringe shoot promos and annoying fans. I did enjoy the invaders insulting the fans and agreed with them more than the ECW guys. This was all nostalgia, i was not around for ECW so it doesn't resonate with me. Definitely still some fun moments, Super Crazy's dive was incredible and the first 2 matches are good."

[10.0] "This was the greatest love letter Vince McMahon's WWE could have possibly paid to ECW. A night full of originals, some seriously hardcore moments, a slew of great matches, and a pretty satisfying beatdown on Eric Bischoff to boot. Mick Foley was a bit lousy on commentary at times, but obviously Taz wasn't available as he was kept for the end of the show. The unique angle of WWE vs ECW added lots to the night, although it did detract from Paul Heyman's shoot promo - mostly via JBL's reaction, but there's plenty to hate JBL over from this night. Not a single match was subpar, no table left unbroken, and I'm sure it took multiple pressure washers to clean the blood off the ring mat. Long live ECW."

[6.0] "It's so clear watching this event that this was an ECW show for ECW fans. Now, for me, I was always a WWF/WWE guy. During the Monday Night Wars, I hated WCW. I enjoyed Sting and maybe a handful of others, but most of the product was lacking to me. I didn't learn about ECW until probably the last year-ish of its existence, and I can't say I enjoyed it much upon finding out about it. In summary, this PPV wasn't made for someone like me. If you're a huge ECW fan I'm sure you will find this infinitely more entertaining than I did because it was made for you. That doesn't mean I disliked this show, either. The best thing about it was how consistent it was. The matches were all short and sweet. Bite sized bursts of energy and carnage that rarely got boring and never disappointed. But there wasn't all that much in the way of substance beyond that. Most of the matches I was excited about on paper were lacking for me. And the rest were bloody spot fests. This was a very entertaining show but one that I think really hones in on who it was made for. If you're not in that demographic, you might see some bigger holes than those within."

The wrestling falls a bit below bar, excluding Awesome vs. Tanaka which is a match of the year candidate. Storm/Jericho is the only other strong match, with Benoit/Guerrero falling a bit flat. The main event missed something for me, but was the right booking for the event so credit for that. Shame this went on to become a more standard PLE than the one off it was meant to be."

[10.0] "ECW One Night Stand (2005) is a phenomenal show and tribute to the OG ECW. The in ring product was short but really good, Mike Awesome Vs Masato Tanaka is a spectacle, but its the vibes the show has with the insanely hot crowd of hardcore ECW fans, all the old ECW stars returning and all the video packages of ECW back in their old days that make this one of the best and most beloved wrestling shows ever. Overall ECW One Night Stand will always be loved by many."

[5.0] "I have such mixed feeling about this. It was something different and unexpected with a phenomenal atmosphere and it started out fantastically, but in the end it revolved into a typical ECW garbage show with people more caring about blood and furniture than the actual wrestling or having talent. Lance vs Jericho was easily the best match on this show, the Three Way Dance was quick and fun, Rey vs Psicosis was another fun bout, this time with more impressive, high-flying stuff and Benoit vs Guerrero was alright, but it would have been much better if the crowd didn't care more about shouting at Bischoff. But as I said there's also too much stuff that I despised. Sabu vs Rhyno wasn't good, but it wasn't as offensive as Awesome vs Tanaka where two nobodies kicked out of everything they could have and almost killed each other multiple times, and then the main event... It was a complete shitshow where it was all about making the ECW marks happy by getting as many people involved as possible and it had nothing to do with a wrestling match at all. The brawl at the end was fun I guess, but also it just showed on full display this unbearable ECW edginess that any outsider would have just cringed at."

One of the best shows ever under the wwe banner and a blast to watch. One of those ppvs that you could watch start to finish without skipping anything. A special show with a special crowd and energy that is unmatched."

We have reunions, classic matches from the past redone, one of ECW's signature matchups - the 3 way dance and tons more fanservice. It's a shame that WWE's love affair with ECW didn't last all that long, but this show holds up well even today."

Ruthless Attitude wrote on 19.12.2023:
[10.0] "Damn good show that had everything an ECW show should have with some good technical wrestling, some really good short lucha libre matches and of corse the Hardcore matches and the blood and attitude that ECW was most remembered for. The match card from top to bottom is strong with it more or less playing out like an ECW greatest hits album. The only storyline going on here really was the anti-ECW crusaders buying tickets for the show, which had some fun moments like that savage Paul Heyman promo and then the infamous brawl at the end where JBL assaulted the Blue Meanie. The rest of the show was a callback to the classic rivalries, which was all the show ever needed. The best matches for me was the Awesome v Tanaka hardcore match, the insanity in the Dudleys v Dreamer/Sandman match, Jericho v Storm opening the show, the three way dance match that really showcases Super Crazy and Sabu vs Rhyno was a lot of fun purely because of the crowd reactions. Benoit v Guerrero and Mysterio v Psychosis was a little bit disappointing, but nothing on the show was anything I'd consider bad. Match for match, this is one of the strongest WWE produced PPV's ever and the ECW fans was hot for everything the entire night!"

Every second of the show since Sabu vs Rhyno was so enjoyable - damn, I miss those days of wrestling..."

[6.0] "Best WWE PPV since at least Wrestlemania XIX in 2003. The nostalgia bait was a bit OTT at times, but the crowd was rampant and every match was enjoyable on some level. Jericho vs Storm was quite good, with nice technical work and some cool high-risk stuff, all of which were very clean and fast-paced. Strong finishing stretch, too. ***1/4. Tajiri vs Guido vs Crazy was disappointingly short but still quite good, with heaps of fun fast-paced spots. Crazy and Tajiri impressed with their signature stuff, and Guido was a competent 3rd partner. A shame they didn't go longer. ***1/4. Psychosis vs Mysterio was another disappointingly short match that still easily managed to be quite good. It was the token lucha match, and it was worked to that style very well. Psychosis was a bit sloppy but still hit some good spots and took some really cool bumps, and of course Mysterio was great with all his own stunts. ***1/4. RVD interrupted JBL's great anti-ECW heel promo to cut a nice rah rah' pro-ECW promo in turn. Sabu then saving RVD from Rhyno's sudden attack was cool. Sabu vs Rhyno was a classic chaotic ECW-style hardcore match -- nothing ground-breaking but still pretty fun. Sabu impressed with his many weapon attacks and signature high spots. Rhyno was alright but didn't get to do too much in comparison. Both had some good exchanges involving the chair, mixing their standard wrestling offence in some cool ways. RVD helping Sabu win made for a cool finishing stretch, too. ***. Eddie vs Benoit was disappointing but still alright. They unfortunately didn't always have the best chemistry or individual energy, and at times it didn't feel like they linked their spots/sequences together naturally, but they both still had decent intensity and technique to impress with on a minimal level. **3/4. Awesome vs Tanaka was very mindless but still pretty good and easily MOTN. It was full with high spots, weapon shots, and big power moves, all which were rushed through but still fun because of both guys' commitment to make everything look extra dangerous. With a longer duration and better structure/pacing this could've been very good. ***1/4 - ***1/2. As much as I absolutely hate the caricature Heyman portrays in modern WWE, I happily admit that his promo rallying the ECW faithful was awesome, especially his back and forth with the WWE talent. There was a big nostalgia-fest prior to the main-event with some excluded ECW teams running out for a quick messy brawl, which I didn't care for but the crowd did. Sandman & Dreamer vs The Dudleyz itself was a mildly enjoyable hardcore spotfest, propped up a bit higher by the crowd's love for the pure chaos of it all. It was mostly everyone maiming and braining each other, but in front of this crowd it came off better than if done by non-ECW guys. Fun mindless entertainment. **3/4. The post-match with Austin coming down and initiating a WWE-vs-ECW brawl was a charming and appropriate way to close out the show."

Great ending segment with ecw standing tall. Tanaka awesome was incredible. Jericho storm and the main event were both very good. Lot of the undercard was skippable which keeps this from being higher, but it? s still definitely an iconic show. Real easy to watch."

He showed me more ECW DVDs from the 90s, and it was great. This PPV rocked as a kid, and when you appreciate wrestling when you grow up, it gets better with age. This show was awesome, and it is not only a tribute to ECW, but most other promotions from around that time such as FMW, and also you could argue Smoky Mountain. The nostalgia with this show is real, and WWE should be applauded for letting this show happen. Truly, one of the best PPVs ever."

This was my first introduction to guys like Tommy Dreamer, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and The Sandman. Does that make me biased' Absolutely. Do I care' Not even a little. This show rules from top to bottom. Storm and Jericho have a really fun little opening match, the three way dance crew have a... um... three way dance. Sabu wrestles covered in bandaids which is hilarious visually, but also impressive that he's even wrestling considering what he did to himself at the Hardcore Homecoming show only days before. Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka have what I guiltily admit is one of my favorite matches of all time despite the fact that they brained eachother with chairs to no end with no regard. To top it off, the Dudleys, Sandman and Dreamer have a pretty fun version of the main events you might see on a random ECW show, but with a little WWE touch. I.E., a little less shit crowd brawling and a little more um, figure four leg locks' Steve Austin's cameo at the end along with the big brawl with the crusaders put this show over the edge as one of the best of all time. Thumbs all the way up boys"

This one is a recommendation for all type of fans. A truly magical night that will go down in the book."

The matches are pretty short, only one match (Tanaka/Awesome) is truly memorable, and the show features some dated WWE segments. But the draw for this show was to be apart of that unbelievably ravenous crowd as Sandman comes out to "Enter Sandman" and Paul E. cuts one of the greatest promos of all time. To me, this is a one of a kind show and a must watch."

It would have been great if they were able to get some of the other stars like Raven or Shane Douglas. But the negative about this show is that it started a lame trend of constant ECW nostalgia shows over the next couple of years, including a "revival" as a brand later on. Otherwise, this is one of my favorite shows that WWE had a hand in producing, and it was a great love letter to a promotion with a loyal following, innovative stories, and hard working wrestlers."

A lot of the under-card and mid-card was average, and nowhere near as good as it would have been during ECW's early days. The invasion angle was unnecessary but alas it did capture the spirit of the old ECW, and have feel good moments in its closing minutes. Top match include the opener, the main event and the fantastic Tanaka/Awesome, another chapter in their history. A match that did disappoint was Benoit/Guerrero, who can never have a bad match together, so this was a disappointment. Regardless, a fun event that captured what ECW stood for."

Only negatives on the night were RVD being off the card due to injury, Benoit and Guerrero not being as good has it could have been due to Eddie having a gripe, and JBL's shoot assault on the Blue Meanie. Oh and because it was partially responsible for WWECW."

[8.0] "An incredibly good show that had several disappointments. Lance Storm vs Chris Jericho was an excellent opening match worthy of the original ECW. Super Crazy vs Tajiri and Little Guido was a fun 3-way dance with some excellent spots, such as 'Crazy's moonsault from the balcony. If you have ever seen Rey Mysterio Jr wrestle Psicosis before, this is by far their worst match against each other. Terrible, terrible match, between 2 of the best lucha libre wrestlers, with barely any lucha libre, lots of rest holds and sloppy wrestling, the crowd had to right to hate it. Only decent moment was Psicosis' leg drop to the outside. Sabu vs Rhyno was an unadvertised surprise, and oddly enough it's a match where Sabu didn't botch at all. Good 6 minute hardcore match. Chris Benoit vs Eddie Guerrero was another big disappointment. Much like Mysterio/Psicosis, this is a slow, ordinary match between 2 of the best technical wrestlers in North America. You can tell they were both not in the mood for it. Mike Awesome vs Masato Tanaka was the show-stealer, as both men proceeded to beat each other up with chairs, tables and powerbombs like it was the late '90s once again. Fantastic match and definitely in their personal top 3, and worthy of the 1 and only time I ever heard the chant "This Match Rules". The highlight of The Dudley Boyz vs Dreamer/Sandman was The Sandman's entrance (if you watched the live version), but if you only saw the DVD version, then probably the table spot. Other than all of this, you have 2 of the best promos by Rob Van Dam and Paul Heyman (but particularly Paul Heyman)."

It's a really solid card anyway, but the real sell of the show is the overall feel of it and the crowd. The WWE invaders gave the show a story to tell in between short but very fun one-off matchups and they all do a great job of working the crowd. Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka relive their classic from Heatwave 1998 looking like they never missed a beat, while the insane main event contains elements nobody thought they would ever see on WWE programming. It's all signed off with a cool inter-promotional brawl in the ring that set the seeds for the 2006 One Night Stand perfectly."

In reality the PPV is not really that strong and having watched it back again in preparation for this review that fact was drummed into me once more. While there was nothing wrong with the matches per se, they were definitely not the strongest showings. Even the match I, and many others, deemed the match of the night, Mike Awesome v Masato Tanaka, has not necessarily stood the test of time. For me this PPV isn’t about the matches but something else quite entirely, something that is often missing from most other big shows. That missing quantity is but one word ‘PASSION’. Everyone of the participants in the matches, and even the ones just doing interviews or vignettes, had the passion for the company they once performed for oozing out of them. This was to be a one-off reunion where they could all get together and remember what made ECW ECW. They have tried it a few times since but could never get that passion again. So this is why this PPV is my favourite and the reason why I continuously go back and watch this show, the show always fills me with the joy that all these guys brought with them and is a reminder just why we watch wrestling for, the ‘PASSION’."

All of the matches were of good quality, though the Rey Mysterio/Psycosis match was a weak point. The PPV had a bit of everything for everyone; sound technical wrestling matches, good shoot promos, good commentary, and of course some classic ECW carnage.
