[8.0] "Pretty great show. Perhaps the most consistent show in the New Japan Cup this year. SANADA/Taguchi (***) - Not sure what this match wanted to be. It was a bit technical, a bit comedy, and a bit of good wrestling. Nothing special but a fine match. Shingo/SHO (*****) - This was one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament and it delivered. I think it was even better than their first match together. Great psychology, storytelling, and a standout performance from SHO. Loved how they only went 17 minutes and didn't waste any time. The best empty arena match so far and the only empty arena match i'd give 5 stars. Ibushi/Sabre Jr (****) - They always have good matches together so this was no different. But much like Sabre's matches with Tanahashi it's gotten a bit tiresome to keep seeing the same story of Sabre's submissions against Ibushi's striking. Good match with a couple great exchanges but overall nothing we haven't seen before. Taichi/Tanahashi (***3/4) - I understand why some didn't like this match. Taichi shouldn't be having controversial matches at this point his career. He's established himself as a great wrestler so he doesn't need as much interference and shenanigans because it doesn't always work. I liked this match because once things picked up and Taichi got serious it was really good. Taichi's great at throwing big bombs and Tana's an amazing seller and makes good babyface comebacks. A crowd would've helped but it is what it is."
[7.0] "All four first round matches were good tonight. Ibushi and Sabre have of course had much better matches in the past but I would watch these two on a loop. Takagi is great and the Tanahashi main even was good too. Overall the strongest card so far in the Cup, although I would rather use the multi-man tag as a palate cleanser like nights 1 & 2 rather than to open the show."
[6.0] "Odd show, as matches ranged from great to abysmal. The 8-Man tag was boring, didn't seem to have any purpose and had way too much Suzuki-gun style outside brawling, with adequate enough in ring work: **-. Taguchi vs SANADA didn't seem to know what it wanted to be, the opening stretch was funny and a lot of fun, the middle majorly dragged, and it picked up in the last minute or so before ending abruptly: **1/4-. SHO vs Shingo was great! Incredible brawling at a breakneck pace, almost like Nagata vs Suzuki with more variety and more mobile competitors: ****+. ZSJ vs Ibushi was great as well, Sabre's submission game was great as always and Ibushi is just one of the best in the world: ****. Taichi vs Tanahashi was absolutely horrible, I was ready for it to be done before the five minute mark. The first nearly ten minutes was almost entirely boring, underhanded BS from Taichi and DOUKI (they couldn't even be bothered to pick an interesting member of Suzuki gun), at which point I was struggling to stay awake. Tana started to get some offense in after that, but it was still at a slug's pace with constant interference from DOUKI, and it didn't help that there's no way I can buy into the match ending at this point because Taichi hasn't taken his shitty tearaway pants off yet. Every remotely interesting moment of this match was followed by ten times longer of absolutely nothing. And to top it all off, now we get another shitty Taichi match in the NJ cup. One of the worst matches I've seen in a while: 1/4*-."
[7.0] "My Ratings: 4 vs 4: **1/2 // SANADA vs. Taguchi: **3/4 // SHO vs. Shingo: ****1/4 (MOTN) // Ibushi vs. ZSJ: ***3/4+ // Taichi vs. Tanahashi: ***3/4-. SHO vs. Shingo is going to be the best match of the first round, and probably one of the best matches of the cup. Fast-paced, intense action between two rivals since last BOSJ giving everything they got to each other. I loved it, and I'm going to love the rematch for the NEVER Openweight Championship in Dominion even more."
[9.0] "Very good show, I enjoyed all the matches. Yes, there is a very high standard when it comes to NJPW, but I think that given the lack of fans, this event delivered!"
[8.0] "Another good empty arena show from NJPW. The tag match & SANADA/Taguchi were fun, SHO/Shingo had huge expectations and delivered (my MOTN), Ibushi/ZSJ always have good matches, and personally i liked the main event, Tanahashi/Taichi with a good Babyface vs Heel which ended with what i predicted with Taichi winning and facing Ibushi in the next round. Overall it was a very good 2 hour wrestling show, loved the matches and the results (SHO + Taichi defeating the clear favourties)."
[8.0] "Young lions and Nagata vs Suzuki gun: **3/4 Taguchi vs SANADA: *** SHO vs Shingo : ****1/4 Ibushi vs ZSJ: ***3/4 Tanahashi vs Taichi: **** Best day of the tournament so far. Stacked card and they delivered both in in-ring product and setting up the ground for the storylines of the future."
[7.0] "Another good show. The last 3 matches were all very good with SHO vs. Takagi being the best one. In my opinion the best New Japan Cup show from start to finish so far."
[6.0] "Interesting show with a meh main event. The tag team match was a nice opener with Suzuki wanting revenge against Nagata, Sanada vs Taguchi was a fun kick-off for the cup matches, Taguchi is perfect in this spot mixing some comedy and good wrestling. Sho vs Takagi was a war, just as expected, i can't wait for the eventual rematch for the belt! Ibushi vs ZSJ had some good technical wrestling and some nice stuff but i felt it went too short to really shine, good match nonetheless. And the main event was... a Taichi match, i guess. 5+ minutes of outside stuff until it really started and, even so, the outcome was somewhat predictable, given they've been teasing ZSJ and Taichi vs Tanahashi and Ibushi since the return, no way both of them would lose. The post match assault on the champions was a redeeming point, though."
[8.0] "What a good show, it was very fun to watch and I enjoyed a lot! All five matches are watchable and don't get you sleepy, also, they were all very well placed. This is by far, the best New Japan Cup 2020 night, and I hope it have more days like or better than this."
