[4.0] "A really subpar show. This might honestly be the lowest point of Smackdown's history. They were so devoid of heels that they resorted to making JBL a top heel. The opening tag match is the best the show has to offer by far. The main event is a memorable blood bath but not a very good match in my estimation. Besides those two, there is nothing to see there. A bunch of average to subpar matches. Smackdown desperately needed more star power at this time."

[2.0] "Genuinely a terrible show with 90% filler that could've been on a random Smackdown and been forgotten in days. The Eddie/JBL saves this PPV from being an all-time disaster show, imo. It was gritty, bloody and aggressive and felt PPV-worthy, perhaps the only match on this show that genuinely felt like the wrestlers were working a PPV. Opener was okay but that's really the only other match worth watching."

Opening tag was lots of fun! Cena/Dupree and UT/Booker were solid matches and didn't bring down the show at all. Torrie vs Dawn was better than expected and we got a nice moment with Dawn in the end lol. Haas/Rico match was a nice comedic fun breather. Chavo/Jacqueline was the only let down."

The opener and the main were the stand out matches here- the main being particularly gruesome thanks to a blotched blade job by Eddie. Ok, there was some dross in this event too but overall it was a fun watch and the two hours forty five minutes flew by."

[8.0] "I know there is a lot of poor wrestling on this show, which is why in good conscience I cannot go above an 8, but Judgment Day '04 is #1 on my list of wrestling event guilty pleasures. In fact, almost the entirety of 2004 WWE is a guilty pleasure of mine. This is a show I come back to frequently when I just want to switch off and enjoy some mindless wrestling fun. Kurt Angle's anti-LA rant promo is hilarious, the Rico match even more so (Billy Gunn & Bob Holly's reactions are priceless! ) and the main event is a cataclysm of gloriously bloody brawl-heavy wrestling violence with good characterization and storytelling behind it. I also love the graveyard-style entrance way for this event, the 2002 edition had a similar very cool tombstone aesthetic, I seem to remember. Is Judgment Day 2004 a classic? Absolutely not. Is it great fun with a must-see main event? Absolutely!"

[3.0] "This pay per view is pretty bad, a lack of creative ideas was on the roster of Smackdown for the entire 2004, but that gave to John Cena a great status as the number one of the roster before even getting the World Championship. Anyway, the opening match is okay, Dudley Boyz were kinda overpushed, Rey and RVD had a good chemistry. Then, there are a lot of weak matches, I guess they though Chavo vs Jacqueline was a good idea, but it was about humilating further Chavo Senior. Cena vs Dupree could have worked, but Dupree got better crowd reactions later, at that time he was just a pretender to the title. Undertaker vs Booker T is a disappointing match, the hype for the return of the Phenom was already over with all the gimmicky stuff (perfect for Taker, terrible for Booker). The main event, Eddie Guerrero vs JBL is a great heated match. I like it because they tried to do what worked with Randy Orton vs Mick Foley, so a bloody match for a 'personal' feud. They probably realized JBL had everything to become a main eventer. Not recommended, but the main event is a must."

[5.0] "It's hard to rate this, because there was a lot of bollocks, but the main event was phenomenal and it left me in a good mood. It started out nicely with RVD and Mysterio keeping things exciting against the Dudleys with their fast moves, but then we were quickly downgraded to another Torrie and Marie bullshit. Then Mordecai had a decent PPV debut, but again we got back to the bad stuff with watching poor Haas having to put up with Rico's gimmick and Billy with Holly having to sell being scared of a gay guy. Then Chavo vs Jacqueline was another instance of feeling bad for a talented guy being involved in a rotten angle, while Cena vs Dupree showed that Rene wasn't ready for a singles push. Taker vs Booker was fine as Deadman still had a returning aura around him and the crowd was eating up everything from him and then the main event was incredible. The perfect example of how to do a grudge match with both guys being serious and going for a brawl rather than fancy wrestling moves. The match felt brutal, Guerrero's crimson mask added a lot to the bout and the finish didn't feel like bullshit because they built it perfectly. So overall a mixbag, but worth watching just for that one main event."

[6.0] "It's a hard show to rate because there's quite a few bad matches here, but the match its remembered for is a true masterpiece with one of the most memorable Eddie Guerrero performances ever. The Eddie vs JBL match is brilliant and also gruesome to watch because of the amount of blood Eddie loses after that chair shot. This was an extremely heated rivalry and this match had that kind of feel to it in every way! Even if the blood hadn't flowed in the way it did, it still would have been a great match in my opinion and at the end it's too good a match for me not to recommend this show in some capacity (even if it's just that match). There's also a solid opening tag match with RVD/Mysterio vs the Dudleys and the John Cena vs Rene Dupree match is much better than its given credit for. The Undertaker vs Booker T match isn't great, but the crowd was still eating up everything Undertaker does. The rest of the matches aren't good with many of them thrown together at the last minute and that hurt the overall quality of the show."

[5.0] "The main event is amazing, but the undercard for this show is actually really underwhelming, and the stuff isn't even just mediocre, it's just bad wrestling. However, there were two decent undercard matches, the opening tag, and Cena/Dupree. The real saving grace that makes this show decent was the awesome main event that we ended up getting. I'll give this a low 5 due to just how good the main event ended up being."

[5.0] "Definitely not a real good show, but it had it's moments. I really liked the opener and the main event is a classic. In between there's not much but I Taker/Booker had some solid stuff, though it was more one sided than I would have liked. Dupree/Cena was a truly boring match though, and Jacqueline/Chavo reflected poorly on all people and genders involved."

[3.0] "Judgment Day 2004 means bloodbath. The unforgettable JBL/Guerrero brawl kept the PPV from oblivion. But who can recall any other match on the show ? The main event outshine it whole and it's better that way, being one of the worst event WWE ever published. The opening is good but just plain generic. Latter on, Cena is correct but still a work-in-progress, unable to perform great matchs yet. Backed by decent wrestling, Rico & Haas/Gunn & Holly is well played, somewhat funny and just enough entertaining to be the standout of the whole card (except main event). Charlie Haas, Rico, Billy Gunn and Hardcore Holly to be the best part of a PPV... Yep, that's saying a LOT about this event. Rest of the card is filled with pure crap. Mordecai gimmick and Torrie Wilson wrestling are merely two bad jokes, harmless though annoying and way too long. Chavo/Jacqueline is where things get really ugly but palm of disgrace goes to Taker/Booker. Feud was bad, match is worst. Both (otherwise great) wrestlers just don't care the least bit about this mess and deliver career-low performances in what may be the most boring, least inspired match I've ever seen."

[6.0] "This was my first PPV I got to watch that wasn't either the Rumble or Mania, so I have a soft spot for this show and the SmackDown product of the time despite its many faults. Though of course, plenty of this is just bad. The opening match is good, I have fond memories Rey & RVD as a team and this was a good little opener. Torrie/Dawn Marie was pretty bad but inoffensive enough. Mordecai/Scotty 2 Hotty is a squash write-off, but even though the gimmick was fairly panned, I would've liked to see how Mordecai fared had he not got sent back to developmental, I found his gimmick and his matches stupidly intriguing. Haas & Rico as a team and the Rico gimmick were cringeworthy but I'd be lying if I said there were no funny moments in this match, even if it went on way too long. Chavo v Jacqueline was just silly really and seemed like a failed attempt to get real heat for Chavo. The US title and the Taker match up the standard a fair bit in preperation for a really good main event, I remember that sickening blade-job confusing the hell out of me at the time, by far the most blood I've seen in a WWE ring, really fun and intense match I have a lot of fond memories of, Eddie Guerrero was an absolute hero of mine, and at least this isn't the show where JBL wins the title."
