[5.0] "The major wrestling show of the year opened with a match between Jericho and Regal for WWF Intercontinental Title. Decent enough for an opener that warms things up, but given their talent they could have easily showed a better match (6/10). Moving on to the string of three boring and weak matches, we have an ordinary Six Man Tag Team Match that was less than 5 minutes (5/10), WWF Hardcore Title Triple Threat Match that had interesting concept on paper, but was boring to watch (5/10), and WWF European Title Match between Eddie and Test that was nothing special (5/10). Then we would have Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit that had some good moments, but was ruined with lack of structure and an anticlimatic ending. Decent match, but when you see these two in the ring, you expect something better and more special than that (6/10). The next match was between Ivory and Chyna for WWF World Women's Title. It was probably the worst match of the show that fortunately did not last too long (4/10). After all of these okay to mediocre matches, we can finally draw a line here and move on to a significantly better half of the show. Street Fight Match between Shane and Vince was more of a spectacle than actual wrestling, but it was really entertaining (7/10). And then we finally have it. The legendary TLC Three Way Tag Team Match with The Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boyz, and Christian and Edge for WWF World Tag Team Titles. This is not only one of the highlights of the show, but it is one of the best matches in this company and dare I say in wrestling history in general. So many memorable moments here, it was simply phenomenal. The best match on the card, that is for sure (9/10). Then we have a short filler Battle Royal Match (4/10), followed by Triple H vs. Taker that was definitely one of the better matches on the card (7/10). Mania closed with Steve Austin vs. The Rock for WWF World Heavyweight Title. First of all, what an amazing video package. Nu Metal goes so well with wrestling and creates such a big feel for this match. As for the match itself, it was a total bloody war. They left everything they had on that ring (8/10). This Wrestlemania is the highest rated on this website and is widely regarded as the best Wrestlemania ever. There are some good to great matches (TLC and Austin vs. The Rock in particular are one of the best matches in WWF/E history) that make this Mania memorable. However, the first half of the show is just too weak and boring to sit through and this reason alone makes this Wrestlemania hard to watch as a whole. I would rate this show 5.5/10. Best match: TLC. Recommended matches: Austin vs. The Rock, Shane vs. Vince, Triple H vs. Taker. Worst match: Ivory vs. Chyna."

[9.0] "An incredible night, easily one of the best WrestleManias in history. The main event lived up to the hype, with Vince's involvement and Austin's heel turn creating a memorable finish. The TLC match stole the show, with every participant delivering, and the standout spot being Jeff Hardy taking Edge's Spear in midair. Taker vs. Triple H was solid, Angle vs. Benoit showcased technical brilliance, and the Hardcore Title Triple Threat gave Kane a chance to shine. Some matches felt unnecessary for the biggest show of the year, and the gimmick Battle Royal was goofy, but the card had far more highs than lows. The McMahons match was highly entertaining, and Linda McMahon earned one of the loudest pops of the night."

[9.0] "An incredible night that is probably one of the best Wrestlemania's in history. The main event really lived up to the hype, even with Vince's involvement for the finish and the Austin heel turn to close the show. The TLC match really stole the show with everyone involved really putting on a classic and the spot of the night had to be Jeff Hardy taking The Spear from Edge in midair. Taker/Triple H was solid as was Angle/Benoit, and the Hardcore Title Triple Threat really delivered and was a great spot for Kane to shine if he wasn't going to be in a more meaningful storyline. There were definitely some matches that didn't seem to warrant being on the biggest show of the year, and the gimmick Battle Royal was just goofy but there were certainly many more ups than downs on this card. The McMahons match was super entertaining and I feel like Linda McMahon got one of the biggest pops of the night. Solid 4 stars."

[10.0] "The best Wrestlemania ever. This statement is as common as "water is wet" in the wresting world, but it is the undeniable truth. Wrestlemania X7 is just a ridiculously good show that showcases the pinnacle of wrestling. A lot of that is due to the variety on the show, and there's a lot of variety. The main event is an intense brawl full of big moves, finishers, twists & turns, and capped off with a finish so shocking it killed the wrestling boom. Austin/Rock have a very good claim to be the best Mania main event ever, and there still is so much more to this show than this match. The Hardcore triple threat has all the silly hardcore brawling you could want, Angle/Benoit is a pure wrestling clinic meant to satisfy the purist of Real Graps fans, the battle of the McMahons is soap opera bliss, filled with memorable moments and one of the best pops in Wrestling history, TLC II is a death-defying spectacle and my MOTN, and HHH/Taker is a very good semi-main event featuring two top stars and one hell of a spot. Even the lesser moments of the shows such as the RTC matches, the gimmick battle royal, and the European championship match are fun and serve their purpose and place on the card. It is the best Wreslemania ever, simple as that."

[6.0] "Most overrated show of all time. The opener is quite enjoyable, like most of jericho's matches. After that, most matches were fillers, no good wrestling until the TLC, filled with embarasing matches such as guerrero vs test, chyna vs ivory, the gimmick battle royal. And, oh my god benoit vs angle, which was the most boring matche this two ever had. I mean it's basicaly average chain wrestling with a botched roll up. Vince vs Shane is more of a drama match than an actual street fight. The Six Man Tag Team Match is absolutely forgetable. The tlc is awesome but the sms 2000's was better. HHH vs Taker is cool but for unreal referee bump And the main event...... Fantastic match but way too much finishers and kick outs. and the ending is probably one of the absolute worst nonsense ever."
tgarren wrote on 02.08.2025:
"A 'high water mark' as far as WWF/E pay per views go. The relative low point of the 'gimmick battle royal' is completely forgivable given the majority of this card. This event takes place basically immediately on the back of the folding of ECW in 2001- resulting in several matches early in the card featuring talent from the late promotion. There is a small roster of really incredible matches on this card- namely TLC2 (a particularly strong gimmick match concept executed to perfection), Benoit/Angle (a masterclass in technical wrestling and severely underrated and under-watched match for obvious and justified reasons), and the main event (featuring an incredible heel turn at the end). Generally speaking, this is the Wrestlemania to show to an up-and-coming fan. It showcases the full range of truly solid booking and strong talent that was afforded to WWF at the turn of the millennium: a 5 star PPV for the WWF if there ever was such a thing."

[10.0] "This was a perfect WrestleMania where every match hit in the right way. The entire event encapsulated the entire Attitude Era in one night where there was just something for everyone. If you want a great wrestling match you have Angle v Benoit. If you like your soap opera style drama it doesn't get much better than Vince vs Shane. If you like a big spotfest TLC II is the daddy of those kind of matches. Even the Gimmick Battle Royal is a nice tribute to the characters of yesteryear. There's great matches people still talk about to this day like the outstanding Rock v Austin match, which ended in a really shocking Austin heel turn and there are great matches that are somewhat overshadowed like the Hardcore Title match and Undertaker v Triple H. It's a fantastic show from top to bottom and it is still to this day my favorite wrestling event of all time."

[10.0] "This is the best WrestleMania WWE ever produced. The Astrodome is such a beautiful venue and the stage is iconic. The show starts with Chris Jericho (c) vs. William Regal for the Intercontinental Title. The match was really good with the fairly short time they had. APA/Tazz (with Jacqueline) vs. Right To Censor (with Steven Richards) was a match I'd expect to see on RAW or SmackDown and wasn't fit to be a Mania match. Kane vs. Big Show vs. Raven (c) for the Hardcore Title was amazing. Raven got the shit beat outta him by Kane, getting thrown through a window and ran over with a golf cart. Big Show did well but the main highlights are Raven and Kane. Eddie Guerrero vs. Test (c) for the European title was a decent title match. The action was solid but I feel like the amount of interference by Dean Malenko & Perry Saturn made Eddie look weak to Test having needed both of the remaining Radicalz's help to win. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit is another masterpiece that they had. They did actual wrestling, which you'd see in the Olympics or NCAA, before transitioning to the pro moves. Chyna vs. Ivory (c) for the Women's title was definitely a career highlight for Chyna as it is her last WWE championship win before moving to porn but it's a squash match. It does make Chyna look dominate and has a great story behind the match but it falls flat in terms of in-ring action. Shane McMahon vs. Vince McMahon in a street fight is a highlight of the whole show. Shane had just taken WCW out from under Vince and the plan was to have some WCW guys get involved in the match. Sadly, Shawn Stasiak had blabbed about it to some media outlet and they got thrown in a skybox. The match was insane with some great work from Linda McMahon and Shane. We see his first Coast to Coast ever here. TLC II happens next and oh man its the best match on the card. It has been talked to death on YouTube and other wrestling forums but its awesome. The Gimmick Battle Royal was one of those legend reunion moments that was a quick paycheck for the boys and didn't serve any other purpose. Doink (who was played by Ray Apollo and not Matt Borne) got the biggest reaction out of the crowd and got the loudest boo I've ever heard when he got eliminated. The eliminations were quick and Iron Sheik won. HHH vs. Undertaker was their first of three Mania matches and it is insanely good. It definitely gets outshadowed by their Hell in a Cell match but it is good. HHH got chokeslammed to shit by the hard cam. Austin vs. Rock II was an impeciable main event and arguably a top 5 WrestleMania main event of all time. Vince McMahon interferes and Austin becomes WWF champ once again. This event is the begginning of Steve's heel turn with the 2 Man Power Trip and Alliance coming soon after."

[10.0] "Live from an absolute beauty of a building in the sold out Houston Astrodome, Wrestlemania 17 has the reputation as the best pay per view of all time. I think it does indeed meet this unique qualification, as the card from top to bottom is entertaining. That even includes Chyna - Ivory, as at least Chyna is presented like a mega star and looks tremendous. Two ALL TIME great matches in TLC II and the main event. The former with the Dudleyz, Hardys, & Edge and Christian and the perfectly booked run ins of Little Spike Dudley (LSD), Lita, and Rhyno. The latter with the two biggest stars of the Attitude Era in Austin & Rock. I also love the Gimmick Battle Royal. Watch this show if you haven't."

[9.0] "The first Mania that actually reached heights matching the events prestige. Enjoyable from start to finish. Jericho and Regal have a fun fast paced opener that worked well, it could've used a bit more time though (7/10) The APA and Tazz kill Right to censor in a solid and short bout (6/10) The Hardcore triple threat has enough dumb fun to make up for the walk and brawl sections (7/10) Eddie VS Test is solid, but probably one of the more forgettable parts of the show (6/10). Angle/Benoit was the best technical match of the night (8/10) Women's title match was a squash that did what it needed to do and nothing more, nice win for Chyna (5/10) Shane/Vince was as much fun as it could be and more considering who was in the ring (8/10) TLC still holds up as an incredibly fun car crash (10/10), The Gimmick battle royale is the weakest in ring for obvious reasons but its nice to hear Heenan and Okerlund (5/10) Triple H gives the Undertaker his first entertaining Mania match with a good brawl (8/10) and the show closes with an epic Austin/Rock main event that outshines their previous Mania closer by miles (10/10). Not a perfect show all the way but damn close to it"

This would have been even more solid card. While I hate the Austin shaking with the devil shit. It's still a great show with memorable moments. This should be the blueprints. Atleast 60% of the card being show stealers and classic. That's why this was awesome"

[10.0] "The Greatest Wrestling Show of all time. WrestleMania 17 is peak attitude era u have all the top stars crazy storylines and the most entertaining wrestling has ever been. The Show starts off With a Good Chris Jericho & William Regal Match for the intercontinental championship. Then you have a quick Little six man tag team match. After that Kane, Big Show and Raven have an really fun hardcore match for the hardcore title. Next up Eddie Guerrero & Test have an ok match for the European Championship. And then Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit do what they do best and have an amazing technical wrestling match. After that Chyna defeats Ivory in a quick Squash match for the Woman's Championship. And then you have the attitude era summed up in one match Vince McMahon Vs His Son Shane O Mac in a Street Fight With Shane's Mom Linda in his Corner & Stephanie McMahon in Vince's match was a ton of fun. After McMahon Vs McMahon we have what's tied for best match of the night in TLC 2 Between The Hardy's Vs Edge & Christian Vs The Dudley's in a TLC Match for the Tag Team Championships. This was a blast there was so much chaos, body's were flying everywhere, some of the bumps were nuts and it also has the most famous spot in wrestling history with Edge Spearing Jeff Hardy Dangling 20 Feet in the Air. Then We have a legends battle royal with the Iron Sheik being the Winner. After that We have the first Undertaker & Triple H WrestleMania Match which was good not as good as the other 2 but still good none the less. And Finally the Main Event the best match of the night in Stone Cold Steve Austin Vs The Rock for the WWF Championship in which is the Greatest WrestleMania Main Event of All Time. You Have the two biggest Stars on the biggest stage with the biggest prize on the line it cant bigger than that. The Match was Amazing the crowd was hot, the action was entreating. And then WWE does one of the biggest swerves of all time and has stone Cold Steve Austin turn Heel and aligned himself with his most Hated rival Vince McMahon. And that is how the show closes with Stone Cold and Vince standing tall. WrestleMania X-Seven is Perfect from beginning to end"

Emotional and extremely entertaining father vs son match, where the whole McMahon family is involved, revolutionary ladder match which defines new model of brutality and second chapter between most charismatic individuals in the industry. The closing angle of Austin turning heel was very controversial and matches like Jericho Vs Regal, the six man tag match, Eddie Vs Test, Chyna Vs Ivory and the gimmick battle royal are all just fairly fine at best, but the WWF Hardcore Title triple threat and Shane Vs Vince are both really great, Angle Vs Benoit and Triple H Vs Undertaker are both fantastic, both Christian and Edge Vs Dudleys Vs Hardys TLC 2 and Rock Vs Austin are masterpieces, the red hot Houston crowd and commentary from Jim Ross and Paul Heyman are just the best and overall everything is just absolute vibes. Overall WWF WrestleMania 17 (2001) is the best wrestling show of all time and it's just the absolute peak in everyway."

[10.0] "WrestleMania 17 is without a doubt the best PPV WWE has ever put out. It was the pinnacle "sports entertainment" show, with every single top Attitude Era star you could think of being on this card with a little sprinkle of classic wrestlers from the previous era in the battle royal match. I'll even say, having Paul Heyman on commentary instead of Lawler made it even better, and I'm not hating on Lawler at all... but I felt as if Heyman offered more to the show than Lawler ever could. The Regal/Jericho match starts off the show pretty good and it just gets better and better from there, minus the Chyna/Ivory match, of course. But aside from that match and the battle royal, every other match delivered. So many "WrestleMania moments" from this show, from Edge spearing Jeff Hardy from the ladder, to Undertaker hitting the last ride on HHH from way up high, with the controversial ending of Rock/Austin. Such an incredible show. The only negative thing I'll say is that the ending, Vince & Austin teaming together, kind of puts a downer on things... I'm sure everybody has heard the story of Austin thinking he was getting stale and needed to change, and no doubt WM17 would've been the moment to do that, I just personally didn't like it. Aside from that, it's just about as flawless as WWE could ever get to putting on a perfect PPV. Completely encapsulates the Attitude Era and how popular/good WWF was at that time."

Just about everything that night was perfect, even small things like the lighting and the stage. It's all so memorable. They also fit ALL this into a 4 hour show, with everything important getting plenty of time and being well-paced. There was no fluff, which has been my biggest problem with WWE PPVs in recent years, where they drag out like 5 matches over 3+ hours."

[10.0] "When you think about the peak of professional wrestling, especially during the Attitude Era, WrestleMania 17 stands as the embodiment of that spirit. This event, held in 2001, was not just a wrestling show; it was a cultural phenomenon that captured the essence of an era defined by larger-than-life characters, intense rivalries, and unforgettable moments. WrestleMania 17 is often regarded as the greatest wrestling event of all time, and for good reasonits combination of star power, depth, and sheer entertainment value is unmatched. One of the standout matches of the night was the technical masterpiece between Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle. These two elite wrestlers put on a clinic in the ring, showcasing their incredible mat skills and leaving the audience in awe. It was a match that highlighted the importance of in-ring storytelling and pure wrestling ability, and it still holds up as one of the best technical bouts in WrestleMania history. On the other end of the spectrum, the Undertaker versus Triple H was a brutal slugfest that perfectly captured the intensity of their characters. This match wasnt about finesse; it was about two titans clashing in a war of attrition, and it delivered in spades. The TLC match featuring Edge and Christian, the Dudley Boyz, and the Hardy Boyz was another highlight of the night. This chaotic and innovative bout was full of jaw-dropping "OMG" moments that have been etched into the memories of wrestling fans. The high-risk maneuvers, insane stunts, and sheer danger involved made it a match that is still talked about today. It wasnt just a spot-fest; it was a revolutionary match that redefined what tag team wrestling could be. The main event, however, was the personification of what WWE was all about during the Attitude Era. The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin was the ultimate showdown between two of the biggest stars of the time. Their chemistry in the ring was electric, and the match was a rollercoaster of emotions, culminating in one of the most shocking moments in wrestling historyAustin siding with Vince McMahon. While Austins heel run may not have been his finest, the image of him shaking hands with his longtime nemesis remains an iconic moment that fans still discuss to this day. In conclusion, WrestleMania 17 is a true all-time classic, a perfect storm of star power, match quality, and unforgettable moments. The depth of the card, from the undercard to the main event, is something that has rarely been matched in wrestling history. Whether its the technical brilliance of Benoit versus Angle, the sheer brutality of Undertaker versus Triple H, the innovation of the TLC match, or the epic showdown between Rock and Austin, this event has something for everyone. WrestleMania 17 isnt just the best WrestleManiaits one of the greatest wrestling events of all time."

Ross and Heyman deliver amazing commentary throughout in one of the greatest duos to do it for a night. Good opening stretch of matches, with things really heating up after Angle Benoit. Amazing, iconic moments throughout, 2 of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all time, and no dull spots leave this as a near perfect wrestling event."

[10.0] "Ok, in term of the quality of wrestling match. There are some NJPW/puro/AEW event that better than this show, even if NJPW shows have a lot of 5 stars matches than WMX7 but the feeling, intensity of WMX7 can't be replicate. This is the highest peak of attitude era or maybe the pinnacle of pro wrestling, storyline is perfect, production is great, matches are amazing, star power is second to none and most of them are in their peak of their career (Austin, Rock, HHH, Taker, Kurt, Benoit, Y2J, Gurrero.... are in the same PPV). This is the best wrestling event of all time, I can't rate below 10 and there will never be a show like this again because at that time after Vince buy WCW, WWF/E want to show to the world that they are number 1 and the winner of Monday Night War."

A perfect show that even though It had it's down points, you forget about those points because the show is so good on quality of matches and definitely and we'll deserved the Best WrestleMania of all times, a show that I enjoyed from begining to end"

[6.0] "I won't say this show is overrated, because I enjoyed it, just not as much as other people. First of all I loved the atmosphere here and the whole setup was fantastic with crowd looking incredible on the hard camera. Secondly Paul Heyman on commentary was phenomenal and I thanked God that Lawler was gone at least for this night. When it comes to matches though there were two great ones. Angle vs Benoit was something fresh with both guys presenting eye-catching amateur wrestling with the incredible level of smoothness in this and of course the main event was fantastic, where I mostly loved how Austin was getting more heelish with every passing minute. Other stuff was a mixbag though. I liked Jericho vs Regal, Guerrero vs Test wasn't bad, Hardcore Title match was stupid fun and McMahon drama bout had a great Linda moment. But then the Gimmick Battle Royal was fun until they actually started wrestling, I absolutely hated the TLC Match for the second time and Triple H vs Taker was horrendous with Chioda laying down for the entirety of the match. So overall there was some good stuff and the main event felt huge, but it wasn't without any flaws."

"The swan song of the Attitude Era and an incredible one at that. It captures the manic aspects of it with the early matches being so frantic and stand outs like the Hardcore triple threat and my favourite match ever in TLC II. Also shows off their incredible capacity for iconic moments in most of the later matches, with the closing moments being one of the biggest turns in wrestling history."

TLC 2 rules and is one of the best spot fests in wrestling history. The main event is still possibly the best Mania main event of all time. The Undertaker and Triple H have a stupidly brilliant match. Angle and Benoit have an excellent technical wrestling match as well. There is so much variety on this show, savage brawls, technical gems, family drama between Vince and Shane. It is a perfect Mania and I don't think it will ever be topped."

[10.0] "Watched this show back ahead of WM 40 and I have to say it's even better than I remembered. Rock/Austin from video package to entrances to the drama of that match is a masterpiece and may be the pinnacle of WWE. Triple H/Undertaker was a pretty great semi-main event and arguably the first above average Undertaker WM match. TLC is up there on the short list of all-time classics. Raven and the big boys had one of the most enjoyable short matches in WM history. The other matches at best over-delivered and at worst was just okay. I view the Attitude Era as ending this night since it was the peak of that star power and the payoff to a spectacular 2000 year building new stars/characters/stories."

[6.0] "This ppv is overrated in my opinion. There isn't anything *bad* on the show, but that's about it. The main event is overrated and overbooked, and the show is full of no dq matches and brawls in the audience. It gets old fast. The Kurt Angle match is great of course, and the TLC match is a true classic. I guess there are some great moments in the McMahon match too, but the last two matches really are nothing that special despite the hype. The show is only worth the watch for its historical significance; this was truly the apex of the attitude era, right before the invasion angle where things started to go downhill. I did love the gimmick battle royal however."

[10.0] "There really isn't anything remotely negative I could say about this show that doesn't make it one of the best, if not the best, WrestleMania of all time. The Intercontinental Title match was a fun start, albeit a bit too short. The Tag Team match was fun, though nothing to write home about. The Hardcore Title match was great dumb fun with a lot of good spots. The European Title match was harmless, and was good solely because of Eddie Guerrero. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit was a really great technical match that was fast paced. The Woman's Title match was a fun squash match. The Street Fight between Vince and Shane McMahon was one of the best examples of soap opera working in a wrestling show, with one of the biggest pops in the entire show. Just a shame I can't really look at the match the same way anymore due to more recent news. The TLC is my pick for the best match, and a great showcase of the tag scene at the time, seriously so fucking good. The Gimmick Battle Royal was really good dumb fun, and honestly rather endearing. Undertaker and Triple H, while admittedly the worst of the three, is still really good fun. And of course the Main Event is a classic, and dare I say it, electrifying. The only thing that deters it for me is the heel turn at the end. Overall, I fucking stellar show, and I'm severely underselling it here. Want a good first WrestleMania to watch? This is the one."
