[10.0] "A great edition of Royal Rumble, with less matches (obvious because of the Rumble) but with the good amount of matches that felt like they accomplished their goal, the ladder match of Jericho and Benoit was peak and the top one of their rivalry and a memorable moment as Stone Cold Steve Austin's 3rd Rumble win. 10/10"

[8.0] "The show started with a decent tag team match. And right after that was one of the most creative 1-on-1 ladder matches. I'd give it a 5 out of 10. After that, there was a pretty forgettable match with Chyna. The match between Angle and Trips didn't really click with me, but I liked how the girls brawled with each other. Well, the show ended with the Rumble, and a pretty average one at that. There was a cool moment when they turned the match into Extreme Rules, but that ended pretty quickly."

[5.0] "As a fan going back and watching Royal Rumble 2001, I honestly came away feeling like it was really overrated compared to how people hype it up. The opening match was okay -- nothing terrible, but nothing that grabbed me either, just a standard start that didn't feel special for such a big PPV. The second match though was easily match of the night for me -- that one delivered properly, great pacing, strong spots, and it actually felt like both sides were going all-out to steal the show. The third match was a mixed bag: there were some really solid in-ring moments and sequences, but the flow kept getting broken up, and the bit with the two girls brawling outside honestly felt stupid and distracting rather than adding anything meaningful. Then you get to the Rumble match itself, which is what everyone always praises, and I just didn't feel it -- it felt predictable, a bit overhyped, and nowhere near as exciting as other Rumbles people put it alongside. By the end of the show I didn't think it was bad, but definitely not the all-time classic it's made out to be."

[10.0] "About as close to a perfect show as you can get from WWE. Wonderful opening tag, maybe my favourite ladder match of all time, a solid angle match, an admittedly not so great title match with annoying McMahon family drama but one that has a great final stretch, and all culminating in a top 3 Rumble ever. GOATED."

[8.0] "I had a good time with this PPV. The Rumble itself was fantastic, but then you have Jericho Vs. Benoit in a ladder match on the same card, which makes me happy. Great start to 2001 with an Austin Rumble win."

[10.0] "Ivory Vs Chyna was awful, but Angle Vs Triple H is real good, Christian and Edge Vs Dudleys is really great, and both the royal rumble match is really spectacular and Benoit Vs Jericho ladder match were really phenomenal, and just the star power of this show is off the charts. Overall WWF Royal Rumble (2001) is a really phenomenal show, and the best Royal Rumble show ever."

[10.0] "A very strong start to the year for the WWF, arguably the strongest start to any year in the WWF/E's history. This might just be the best Royal Rumble PPV the company has ever put on. The rumble match itself is stellar, featuring a strong roster and well booked so as to make the match memorable and gripping the whole way through. The Austin/Rock stare-off is spine-tingling and Kane's run of dominance is an all-timer Rumble performance. Add that a nice blend of hardcore, comedy, and star power, and you have a top tier Rumble match. The rest of the show was pretty great too. The opening tag match was super fun and crowd-pleasing, the IC title ladder match is an incredible ladder match between two top tier talents, and the world title match was pretty strong despite the heel/heel dynamic. Asides from that and the women's word title "match, " this is a stellar card and PPV. The road to Wrestlemania has never started so strong."

[10.0] "This was the very best Royal Rumble PPV event of all time with one of the most unforgettable Royal Rumble matches ever that had so many amazing moments with a particularly impressive performance from Kane and a blood soaked Austin winning the match. The Jericho v Benoit ladder match was also an outstanding match with lots of brutal spots and great wrestling. E&C vs The Dudleys was a classic underdog tag team match with the Dudleys winning despite getting injured with chairshots to the head on Raw. Kurt v Triple H was a very good WWF title match as well even though a lot of the focus is on Stephanie and Trish and then Austin also attacked Triple H and cost him the match, which lead to the retaliation at the Royal Rumble as the Austin vs Triple H rivalry was at its very peak and they was about to have a war the following month. There's some funny segments with Drew Carey as well that lead to his participation in the Rumble. The only bad thing on the show was the stretcher job in the Chyna vs Ivory match but other than that it was all killer and no filler and such a strong start building to WMX7."

[7.0] "I'm pretty mixed. For many it's the best Royal Rumble PPV of all time with one of the best Rumble matches. For my part I really loved the first two matches, the women's match is fast and the end with Chyna's injury angle quite awkward. Triple H vs Kurt Angle is one of the most horrible matches for the WWE Championship that I've seen in my life. It doesn't really stick between them and also due to this storyline between Stephanie McMahon and Trish Stratus... And finally the Rumble match is pretty boring during its first half and superb at the end. The promo clips are bad, we're not going to hide it, it doesn't really make you want to see the matches, especially Triple H vs Kurt Angle. I find that the matches follow one another quite quickly despite the number of segments, quite funny when it revolves around Drew Carey, for the others it's meh. The crowd gets vocal during the interesting matches, even if it's just to ask for tables in a simple tag team match. I'll remember the first two matches and the end of the Rumble match, nothing else, because it's completely forgettable. MOTN: Jericho Vs Benoit (3*3/4)"

[9.0] "One of the stronger PPV's in the WWF's lineup and a great way to start off 2001. The Tag title match was a good opener to get the energy going, The Ladder match had some great wrestling and iconic spots like the Walls on top of the ladder. Ivory vs Chyna wasn't much of a match but a solid enough story beat to continue the feud going into Mania. The world title match has some good back and forth wrestling and a great run in by Austin despite getting a bit bogged down by the Vince-Steph-Trish stuff in the middle. The Rumble itself is one of the best ever. I really like how it sort of has chapters with the Hardy's going back and forth between teaming and fighting first, they have a few sloppy bits but Jeff hits a beautiful whisper in the wind that makes up for it in spades, then theres the Drew Carey comedy spot thats done really well and that sets up the Hardcore portion of the match with a lot of plunder and Kane being a beast, culminating in another quite funny spot with Honky's cameo. Once Rock goes in you have him and Kane disposing of some lowercarders quickly to keep the match between them. The ring piles up nicely leading up to Big Shows return and chokeslam fest before going into the final stretch of good wrestling with the most credible competitors and Austin winning. Really well structured match from start to finish Match Ratings: Edge and Christian vs the Dudleys (7/10) Benoit vs Jericho (9/10) Ivory vs Chyna (4/10) Kurt Angle vs Triple H (7/10) Royal Rumble (9/10)"

[10.0] "This is in my top 5 WWE PPV's of all time. One of, if not the best Royal Rumble match, that had a bit of everything. The ladder match is up there for match of the year for 2001. Solid match between Triple H & Kurt Angle. Tag opener proves how strong the era was for tag teams. Women's match has the controversial spot which is the only downer of this show. This starts the run of Rumble, No Way Out & Wrestlemania X-7 for the most solid 3 month period of the WWF era."

[7.0] "A peak attitude era show. What the hell is Drew Carey doing on this show? What a random guy to have. He does all right I guess. The rumble match itself is one of the better rumbles out there, and the rest of the card is pretty decent as well. Match of the night is probably the ladder match, with the Rumble match itself running a close second. Kurt Angle/HHH is decent but a little long, but the ladder match is one of the better encounters between Benoit and Jericho. I would call this whole show as worth watching, but hardly the best WWE PPV of all time."

[8.0] "Finally the Attitude Era PPV that I absolutely loved. The opener was fantastic with Dudleys proving me wrong about their inability to have a proper Tag Team Match, Jericho vs Benoit was my favourite Ladder Match up to date with both guys making all of the incredible spots and bumps look realistic, Ivory vs Chyna was a really convincing injury angle and Kurt vs HHH had a little too much of the McMahon drama, but it was still great with Angle having his best singles bout yet. And then the Royal Rumble Match didn't have the star power of the 1992 one, but the main event scene was strong and the bodies in the ring were just there to feed the proper stars. The fans were loud, all of the top guys looked strong and Stone Cold won the whole thing after a fantastic showdown with Kane. A really good show where everything just clicked."

[8.0] "Very Good show where the crowd almost seemed hotter for the undercard than the final few matches. The highlight of the night had to be the Intercontinental Title ladder match. The Tag Team Championship opener was pretty solid and the World Title match was a step below that. The Rumble itself was one of the better ones I personally remember with Kane earning his name The Big Red Machine that night and Steve Austin being the right choice to go over. I find it interesting looking back a year from this event at the debut of Taz and how big of a deal it seemed to be with him choking out Kurt Angle and looking like someone to watch out for, fast forward exactly a year in the WWF calendar and Kurt Angle is retaining the WWF Title and Taz is getting eliminated instantly in the Royal Rumble. One of my personal favorite shows of all time, the atmosphere was fantastic and had no real lulls except the Woman's Championship match that didn't really get off the ground. At least 4 stars."

[9.0] "What a classic show this is. This show has what is most likely the greatest Ladder Match in wrestling history between Jericho and Benoit. The only downside of this show was the Chyna vs Ivory match l. This also has what is my favorite Rumble Match besides the 1992 match of course. If you have never seen this show I beyond highly recommend it."

[9.0] "The first show of WWE's best three-show run, the Royal Rumble is one hell of a show. The opening tag, while hampered with an awful concussion storyline, is still great work from Edge and Christian and the Dudleys. Benoit and Jericho absolutely kill each other in one of the most brutal ladder matches ever. Then things dip. Ivory vs Chyna is just an extension of the awful neck injury angle, but it thankfully doesn't go long. Then Triple H and Kurt Angle have a standard 2001 Triple H match, nothing special. Then there's the Rumble itself. God damn, what a match! Kane's run of dominance, Drew Carey's cameo, the hardcore showcase, and that staredown between Rock and Austin. This show is special, but it's not perfect. I want to give it a 10, but the Chyna neck injury angle drags the show down ever so slightly. Just skip past it the next time you watch the show."

[7.0] "Fun opener, cool ladder match and a good Rumble even if it was a bit boring for awhile but Austin winning ruled. The womens title match and HHH/Angle were not good though"

[9.0] "From the top shelf of Rumble events. The undercard features a classic Jericho-Benoit ladder match as well as some good bouts in Angle vs. H and Dudleys vs. Edge & Christian. The Rumble itself is also at the top of the list, with a strong performance from Austin beating the odds to win, as well as memorable runs from Rock, Kane and, early on, the Hardys. Even the Drew Carey stuff was reasonably fun and inoffensive (if not worthy of a HOF induction). A great watch throughout."

Definitely more sports entertainment than technical wrestling, but sports entertainment at its finest."

[8.0] "The WWF really kicked off the new year with a bang here! Overall it's the best Royal Rumble PPV they ever put on! VERY rare to see a rumble where the under card and the Rumble itself were equally great! Year to year you either have the option of good under card and crap Rumble or vise versa. We definitely got spoiled this night! Only downside was the Women's match which included the offensive "this is real and she is totally injured" angle with Chyna and that match already sucked anyway! Start to finish this was one of the best WWF PPV's ever."

The opener tag title match had a really hot crowd with a fun Dudley's comeback that was a easy watch, Jericho/Benoit put on a really compelling ladder match, Chyna/Ivory just happened, HHH/Angle was good but it was definitely missing something, and the rumble was amazing due to the different segments of jt and how good those were overall. [7.0] "Huge start for this show with a really good Dudley Boyz vs E&C and an awesome Benoit vs Jericho. However, Chyna vs Ivory is really average, HHH vs Angle has too much overbooking so it's just correct and the Royal Rumble Match is a lowcard match which is just nice and not one of the best RR matches in my opinion. So, it's a good show for me, and not more."

[9.0] "I would go 9.5 if it was available. What can I say' The opener is great, helped even more by one of the best crowds you'll hear. The match flows effortlessly and they don't miss a bit. The ladder match was what you'd expect from the Chrises. A classic. No words will do it justice. Probably my favorite version of Jericho. The Womens' Title match was more of an angle. Said angle wouldn't get a pass today due to its subject, but for that time everyone did a good job. Ivory was superb back then. WWF Title was under the umbrella of the McMahon family bollocks. Having said that, I enjoy this type of soap opera in my wrestling and I believe they're doing a very good job as of January '01. The match is overbooked, is heel v heel and yet it didn't lost me or the crowd. And then there's the Rumble Match. I'd put it slightly behind '92, but of course is a legendary match. Structured and paced beautifully, it has everything. From the usual light moments (Drew Carey, hardocre part etc) to the heartstopping ones (Austin's entrance, face to face with the Rock etc). Then there are the performances, as all the main guys bring their A+ game and the booking of the match helps them go to another level. I can write so much more about this show. An essential viewing. Probably the greatest Royal Rumble PPV of all time. An absolute joy to watch."

[10.0] "The WWF from January 2001 until early April 2001 was at it's creative peak, and you can see it here as they produce the greatest Royal Rumble event ever here. The Tag Team Title Opener is fun, the WWF Intercontinental Title Ladder Match is in my opinion the greatest 1 vs 1 Ladder Match in WWE History. People rag on Chyna vs. Ivory but it makes perfect sense here with the entire build, and we get the blow off at WrestleMania X-Seven. The WWF Title Match did what it needed to do by being a solid affair, alongside spicing up the McMahon Family Drama along with Stone Cold Steve Austin's attack on Triple H. Then the 2001 Royal Rumble Match, which I consider to be the greatest Rumble match ever due to how well executed everything is. The WWF did a great job setting up WrestleMania X-Seven here, and the 2001 Royal Rumble event is one of the best WWE PPV events ever."

It is bogged down by a stupid finish to the women's match, a lame Angle-HHH match and some skippable Drew Carey backstage stuff. HOWEVER: great opener, good Jericho-Benoit match and a great Rumble match. Good stuff."

[7.0] "Incredible ladder match and one of the best Rumbles ever. I loved how well the Jericho/Benoit ladder match flowed, didn't have the usual stop start of these matches when they set up for the next high spot. The Royal Rumble started great and ended brilliantly. Died a little in the middle during the Rock/Kane stuff with lots of lower midcarders coming in and barely doing anything. Drew Carrey, Honkey Tonk Man, the Austin/HHH stuff and Kane's sheer dominance were the highlights of this years rumble. The show overall was somewhat let down though by the weak heel vs heel World Title match and the Chyna kayfabe injury angle. Very good and memorable PPV."

The Tag Team title match was about a sbest as you can get without a gimmick, the ladder match is great but has a weak finish, the womens match did what it needed to for its story and the world championship was pretty good although the cat fight in the middle could have been scrapped. the royal rumble was pretty fun too."

[5.0] "A pretty meh show with only 2 of 5 matches being worthwhile. Christian & Edge vs The Dudleys was fine. C & E controlled the majority, which then felt weird with the Dudleys working as pure babyfaces. Good reactions to them once they gained control. **1/2. Benoit vs Jericho wasn't the classic it's made out to be, but it was very very good. Definite MOTN. Lots of crazy dangerous and creative spots, plus generally strong bumping and selling from both guys. ***3/4. Ivory vs Chyna was a total dud with a forced injury angle. NR. Angle vs HHH was a typical WWF/E drama match. Very basic exchanges that eventually get overshadowed by all the interference and shenanigans. Mildly entertaining at least. **1/2. The Royal Rumble was actually kind of good. I usually hate this style of drawn-out battle royale, but I liked the few stories such as Kane dominating for so long, Undertaker being a formidable force, and Rock and Austin both fighting through injury to last until the end. Was very cool watching Austin eliminate both Rock and Kane to get the win. Austin was always fantastic playing that rabid babyface desperate to win, and that worked really well here. Also a bonus in that the majority of the non-star wrestlers in the Rumble didn't come across as total jobbers and actually had some decent spots. ***1/4."

[9.0] "Only thing that brings it down is the Chyna vs Ivory match, both because it's short and pretty tasteless. Every other match is incredible, one of the best ladder matches of all time, really fun tag opener, WWF championship match is a bit overbooked but still a fun watch and the best Royal Rumble match of all time in my opinion. The best royal rumble event by far."

Kurt Angle vs Triple H is not at their best but still interesting. The ladder match between Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit is legendary, an intense fight with many spots. Also the tag team opener is good. Strong event with only a terrible Women's match which is more of an angle."

The Dudleys vs Edge and Christian was a brilliant opener, the crowd were very into it. The story of the match was played out well but I can't imagine a concussion story line happening today ***. The IC ladder match was fantastic and a must watch ****1/2. Chyna vs Ivory was an angle not a match really, I hated the story but it was short so that's something, DUD. HHH vs Angle was a decent title match however I wasn't a fan of Angle and the title being an afterthought ***1/2. The Royal Rumble match had good star power and was very enjoyable ***3/4."
