[7.0] "For me, this Summerslam marks a transition period. When 'early' Attitude era becomes 'later' Attitude era. After this Summerslam, it wouldn't be long before a lot of new talents joined, and others left. Jericho was here, but hadn't been on PPV yet. The Dudleys would be coming. Angle, Benoit, and Eddie would all be on their way in a few months. The Rock would very quickly become the mega star we know today after this event. Triple H would start to become the top heel of the era after this event. Lots of fresh faces like Edge and Christian, the Hardys, Big Show, etc, would quickly start to take a major roll after this. Conversely, Austin would take a long hiatus just a few months after this to recover from injury, and of the time he'd have left after his return, he'd work a lot of that time heel, so this is kind of a swan song for him in certain ways. Undertaker too wouldn't make another PPV before having to leave to recover from injury. And when he returned, he'd be completely different. Foley himself only had half a year left give or take before he'd retire. Jarrett would leave shortly after this show. This would be the last 'big 4' event that Russo was there as a writer for, so creative would change for the better in a few months. There were so many things coming and going around this show. The show itself is a remarkably consistent one, which makes it one of the most fun Summerslams to return to. I wouldn't say anything on this card blows me away, but every match is good, so it keeps you glued to the screen. A significant event, and a very good one. Definitely one of my favorite Summerslams."

[7.0] "This was a pretty good SummerSlam and the only good 'big 5' PPV in 1999. It had a solid main event that was noteworthy because of Jesse Ventura's involvement and also the unexpected result where Mankind won his third WWF Title and Triple H brutally attacks Austin with the chair after the match. The best match on the card for me was Shane vs Test as it was a brilliant storyline drama type of match that turned it into a really fun spectacle to watch. The tag team turmoil match was another highlight for me because of the Edge and Christian vs Hardy Boyz opener and also the strong booking for Edge and Christian going over 3 teams before the Acolytes eventually win. The tag title match was stronger than expected because of the strong X-Pac performance. It was a pretty consistent show in terms of match quality with only Rock vs Billy Gunn disappointing because of the terrible match stipulation and also the really bad Ivory vs Tori match."

[7.0] "FINALLY a Good PPV in 1999. Jarrett vs. D'Lo is an average opener. Decent wrestling from both guys and some story with Henry turning, but its lacking in fun (5/10) The tag team turmoil is an entertaining multiman. Edge and Christian have a good short bout with the Hardys and get some quick eliminations for the next two teams. The Acolytes show some power and cut them off and close out the match beating the Holly's. (7/10) Jericho and Road Dogg have a little promo off that was fine before we get the Hardcore title match. Snow and Bossman have another fairly basic walk and brawl at first. It gets more fun than their previous encounter once they leave the arena. The fight at the bar with the moonsault onto the table was pretty cool (6/10) The Women's match is short and forgettable. At least there was some wrestling (4/10) The Lion's den match wasn't as good as the first one, but still was pretty fun. The weapons were a decent addition and Shamrock was an intense badass as always (7/10) Shane vs. Test is the surprise highlight of the night. Super fun hardcore brawl with a solid story and big spots (8/10) After having the worst match two PPVS in a row, Kane & Big Show get a good showing in a solid tag team match. X Pac was the MVP of the bout though flying around and getting beat up (7/10) Gunn vs Rock had a dumb as hell gimmick, but mostly on charisma alone they make it bearable (5/10) The Main Event was typical attitude era with brawling and shenanigans. This time it was a fairly fun one though. Foley always adds an extra edge to matches and it felt chaotic. (7/10)"

[4.0] "Three good matches and that's it, plus it's not like these were more than only decent. Test and Shane have a nice brawl with a good story, Tag Team Titles match is a nicely paced bout with X-Pac being great as an underdog and the main event is all about Jesse Ventura who was a phenomenal addition to the contest. Everything else is just meh. Jarrett vs Brown could have been much better, Tag Team Turmoil is a mess and Boss Man vs Snow is another garbage Hardcore Match. Ivory vs Tori once again shows that Tori is the worst wrestler on the roster, Shamrock vs Blackman is too long and doesn't produce almost any emotions, while Rock vs Gunn is a typical Rocky match with both guys walking and punching each other all over the arena. Typical Attitude Era PPV, although with some good matches here and there, but still a lot of garbage that doesn't belong on the wrestling show, at least not in this amount."

[6.0] "One of the more consistent WWF PPVS in 99 with the only thing being outrageously bad, the women's match. Nothing they did looked impactful and the whole match was sloppy, even the ending. There were a whole bunch of solid matches but nothing really expectational here. Matches from best to worst: Shane/Test ***3/4 Austin/Mankind/HHH ***1/2, X-Pac & Kane vs Taker/Show ***, Tag team turmoil ***, Rock/Gunn **3/4 Snow/Bossman **3/4 Shamrock/Blackman **3/4, Jarrett/Brown **1/2, Tori/Ivory -*"

[7.0] "Probably the most consistent WWE PPV in the whole of 1999. Lots of great wrestling on this show which is almost the antithesis of the overall in-ring product that year. Only down points I'd give are the botchy af Women's title match and the slightly underwhelming Lion's Den match with a weird ending to boot. Everything else is top notch by 1999 standards. Fast-paced and insanely underrated well worked opener (***), entertaining tag turmoil (Acolytes aside), decent hardcore match and a very fun street fight match. The card starts to get a little more underwhelming towards the main event though. Don't get me wrong, The tag title and Rock/Gunn are good matches, just not very memorable ones. The tag title's better in that boat just because it doesn't feature commentary taking the piss out of a woman because of her weight. But that main event though, another super underrated match and should definitely be on the match guide. The drama with Ventura there, the brief team up of Mankind and Hunter, the whole match is just fun from start to finish. Add to that the unpredictability of Mankind's win and it's a memorable main event (***1/2). Overall, one of the better PPVs of '99, possibly the best, up there with Fully Loaded and Backlash."

[8.0] "Great SummerSlam like last year. Wrestling is pretty alright for that time and we have some surprises like Mark Henry turn on D-Lo Brown. Tag team turmoil is fun especially E&C vs Hardys part. Al Snow vs Bossman is cool but for me their Fully Loaded match was better. Test vs Shane is surprisingly the best match of the show. Great brawl and great story. Tag titles match is very good too and Rock vs Mr. Ass is okay for what it was. Main event is enjoyable. Mankind's win is very weird but it's not bad as it wad a surprising moment and HHH would win the title next night on Raw."

[6.0] "The only reason I give six points to Summerslam is because it has an impact. There aren't great matches or something must-watch, but Mankind winning his third World Championship is a great moment because it was easy to expect Triple H to get the title in a major event. Also, I believe that The Rock vs Billy Gunn is funny, and Al Snow vs Big Bossman is an underrated match. Some good stuff from Test vs Shane McMahon too, but the rest is almost terrible."
