112.02.2024SirJamesJones8.0To start things off we get a good DiBiase promo. Where he is talking about how he knows Stagger Lee is JYD, which results in Watts acting as the lawful good - enforcing his belief that due to the Gorilla suit shenanigans that this is a fair bit of karma for the men. They then cut video segment of Tony Atlas bench pressing 500lbs - with non other than JYD and Stagger Lee both present to spot him! Its actually quite a wholesome segment, with all the kids and fans at ringside - with Bill Watts presenting and highlighting what a feat it is what Atlas is doing. This leads us to Tony Atlas against Smirnoff, Atlas is nothing short of a physical specimen to watch and can clearly go in the ring based on some of his past performances. In this bout he throws Smirnoff around like a rag doll. Its nothing special, but it gets the job done as far as showcasing Atlas goes. Up next we have Stagger Lee against Matt Borne - with the stipulation that if Stagger Lee is unmasked and it is in fact the Junkyard Dog, he will be suspended for a year. Surprisingly Borne is successful in removing his mask, revealing its not JYD. But soon after another man in the Stagger Lee ensemble hits the ring - its a fun bit of story telling and has the crowd going nuts. The following tag match is a fun one just to witness Arn Anderson as Marty Lunde playing the enhancement talent role , its nothing too special mind you. Sharpe goes up against Kelly Kiniski, in what for me is probably match of the night. Its a really decent back and forth match that has a nice blend of wrestling and brawling component to it - the two men do a good job here putting on a well fought contest. Duggan goes against King Cobra, who has a relatively explosive style for the time and place, he seemingly keeps spamming the drop kick button at the start of this. To his detriment as a missed one results in Duggan getting his chance. The ending of this match is a fun one with Cobra being caught with Duggans spear in mid air. The Grappler faces Chavo Guerrero, and boy can Chavo go, hes going through the mid-ropes and doing all sorts of acrobatics that are a rarity on Mid-South. Its another fun edition of Mid-South as far as Im concerned. The wrestling as well as the contest of the bouts is certainly there, paired with a fun though slightly goofy angle that is way over with the fans at the time - this all really highlights the abundance of talent around this time period for Mid-South.
