[8.0] "One of the better events from 1998, Attitude Era generally had a habit of having just one match carry the event, but this card was pretty good. The opener was better than expected, Shamrock and Rock had a pretty good match. Obviously, Mankind vs Taker is one of the most iconic matches of all time without a doubt, so that is a legendary match and a must watch. And on top of that, the main event was very good, a lot better than I expected."

[9.0] "An event that touches perfection, historic moments like first Kane reign, Taker vs Mankind, Ken Shamrock wining the crown and the rest matches that didn't disappoint. 9/10"

[8.0] "A show that perfectly captures the spirit of 1998's WWF. It's chaotic, loud and at times sloppy but full of moments that defined the era. The Hell in a Cell match remains one of the most shocking things ever done in wrestling while the rest of the card delivers a solid mix of attitude-fueled brawls and quick-paced tournament bouts. Shamrock's win, Kane's world title moment and Mankind's crazy spots all make it feel historic. Even the weaker matches fit the vibe. Not flawless but pure Attitude Era."

[8.0] "This gets a high rating based on the Hell in a Cell match alone. The main event was also good and everything else was solid to good. May have been the best PPV of 1998 for the WWF, from what I remember."

[10.0] "While not every match on this show was great, I'm rating it a 10 because it was a very important show. The Undertaker v Mankind Hell in a Cell match needs no introduction whatsoever. It's a legendary match that every new fan needs to watch and the bumps Foley took that night was just insanity. The rest of the card obviously doesn't touch that match, but I thought it was pretty entertaining. Austin v Kane was a fun brawl where the odds of Austin winning was virtually impossible. The King of the Ring tournament was good with a decent Shamrock v Rock final. The 6 man tag opener was energetic and X-Pac v Owen had some good moments as well. The tag title match was meh and the Al Snow/Head match was just ridiculous."

[8.0] "This show is pretty good the first part of the show is okay but the second half you have a instant classic match between mankind and taker you also have the king of the ring final and the main event the save this show."

[6.0] "Best WWF PPV of 98 so far, but still only decent. Opening 6 man is pretty fun with a buch of hight flying from Kain En Tai, props for Togo's Iron Maiden shirt too. Solid start (6/10) KOTR time with Shamrock looking pretty badass beating down Jarrett. Extended squash with some intensity and a few heel moments for Double J (5/10) Rock/Severn is one notch below due to being shorter and the opening takedowns looking a bit weird (4/10) Too Much vs Al Snow is very silly and theres a few sloppy botchy moments. Probably the weakest on the card. Extra point for the Head and Shoulders finish though (4/10) X Pac/Owen has some solid wrestling but its not as good as their sprint from 94. The chaotic ending with Vader and Henry is entertaining, another decent one (6/10) Outlaws/Midnight Express is pure filler and there was no chance NAO was losing here. Still I'd say its better than any of their matches with LOD since Holly and Gunn didn't get gassed immediately (5/10) Shamrock/Rock is a solid final for the tournament with some fast paced moments and a hot crowd. Not either mans best but another average one (6/10) Taker/Mankind is the best of the night, not really for the workrate, but for Foley's insane bumps and all the iconic visuals this match has. Its tense and a bit hard to look at but its Brutal and memorable (9/10) Austin/Kane is a decent brawl that starts off hot, slows down in the middle and has a nice ending with Taker and Foley somehow coming in for the interference. Decent closer but overshadowed (6/10)"

[6.0] "Outside of the Foley vs Undertake match there isn't a ton on this PPV that really grabbed me, a few things here and there but not much for being that long. 6/10"

[6.0] "Nice little PPV, mainly remembered for one particular spot. It started out alright with a quick 6-Man Tag that warmed up already loud crowd. Then Jarrett put over Shamrock nicely and made him look like an even bigger threat before the final. Rock vs Severn was also okay for what it was, although I wish that we could see more of Dan on a PPV. The Tag Team Match was typical Russo bollocks so I'm not diving more into that, while X-Pac and Owen had an okay contest, but I couldn't get into Waltman trying to be cool. Outlaws and Midnight Express delivered a pretty solid match, especially with exciting final minutes, and then the tournament final was the second best thing on the show with Rocky and Shamrock once again showing what a great chemistry they had with each other. Hell in a Cell Match was an obvious highlight of the PPV with some iconic and brutal bumps from Foley. They made every single spot count and it was something that was never seen before in WWF, but still it wasn't just brutality for the sake of brutality - they actually got Mankind more over than ever before. And then the main event unfortunately had to follow the Hell in a Cell Match, so automatically it didn't feel as special as it could have, but still Austin and Kane had a good brawl. Shame that Kane didn't work like a monster and had to adapt to Steve's style, but still it was a competent bout. An okay PPV with two great matches and only one stinker."

[8.0] "Clearly a two-match PPV. However: a) the rest of the card is OK, there isn't anything outright bad and b) those two matches happened to be the Main Events and two amazing ones as well. KOTR took a back seat, which didn't bother me because the main matches over delivered. More was expected from the Final and the X-Pac/Hart though. Commentary was good as JR and King didn't go out of the ordinary while the lack of backstage segments was covered with two in-ring segments of Vince and Bearer, both of them not adding much to the PPV. MOTN goes of course to the memorable Hell In A Cell. Obviously the two big matches are a must watch, however the rest of the card is an enjoyable watch as well."

[6.0] "Typical for KOTR, the actual tournmanet matches are not very good aside from Rock/Shamrock, but Taker/Mankind pushes this show WAY up on the rating scale. If not for HITC, this would have been another mediocre PPV."

[6.0] "This show has to get an above average rating just for the legendary Hell In A Cell match, but that's the only thing here to go out of your way to see. The main event was also pretty good, but the rest of the show wasn't great, and several matches were outright bad - most notably the "tag match" with Al Snow and Head, which would have been a dumb match at the best of times, but with Lawler reffing while his son competed, and finishing with one of the worst plays on words I can remember, it was awful. The KOTR tournament was pretty mediocre, and the two other matches were solid but not great."

[7.0] "the 6 man tag was alright and the two king of the ring matches were fine, Shamrock/Jarrett had real potential with the leg work done in the match but Shamrock's selling wasn't even spotty. Too Much vs Al Snow & Head was by far the worst match on the show everything else was watchable. Owen/X-PAC and Shamrock/Rock were good matches with Rock, in particular, having a really good performance. Austin/Kane was a good attitude era brawl with good drama to end the match. The Hell in a Cell match was a pure classic I don't see any match in 98 topping that for the WWF. Matches from best to worst: Undertaker/Mankind *****, Austin/Kane ***1/2, Shamrock/Rock ***1/4, Owen/Pac ***1/4, six-man tag **3/4, tag title match **, Shamrock/Jarrett **, Rock/Severn 1/2*, Too Much/Snow DUD"

[7.0] "Most the undercard was meh. Some matches such as Owen Hart vs X-Pac were average. But the top 3 matches were 1. the hell in a cell obviously, 2. Kane vs Austin, and 3. Rock vs Shamrock. Those 3 matches were good. And the legendary hell in a cell match was on this show so that is awesome."

[8.0] "What can be said about this event that hasn't been said already. There's the iconic Undertaker v Mankind match, which is still somewhat chilling to watch now as I'm sure it was to watch back then. The first blood match with Kane and Stone Cold, which I assume most would expect Kane to win given the stipulation, was a typical brawl for this era, but given how over everyone involved was (Mankind and Undertaker came back to the ring and interfered) it was a hype as hell match. X-Pac and Hart also put on a great match, which IMO should silence those doubting X-Pac's ability in the ring. Shamrock and Rocky also had a long, back-and-forth and well-paced match, though I'm annoyed at how little Shamrock's leg injury mattered in both of his bouts during the PPV."

[5.0] "The beloved classic match that contributes to a large sum of the positive rating is actually severely middling, especially if you know next to anything about wrestling and know about the big spots already."

[5.0] "Pros: - The Undertaker vs Mankind (match of the night); - Ken Shamrock vs The Rock; - X-Pac vs Owen Hart; - New Age Outlaws vs "Midnight Express" (Bob Holly and Bart Gunn); Cons: - match between Head Bangers/Taka Michinoku and Kai En Tai could last a little longer; - all semi-final matches were short; - Too Much vs Al Snow and his "head"; - poorly booked match between Kane and Steve Austin; In conclusion, King Of The Ring 1998 was a mediocre show with one of the most memorable matches in Attitude Era and whole pro wrestling."

[10.0] "The hell in a cell match and Kane winning the title make this event a 10, very iconic moment in wrestling."

[9.0] "The best attitude era PPV so far. Undercard is mediocre. It has both good and bad matches but non of them are too long so show never watches boringly. Final of the rournament is food. Shamrock's win is a good decision. Hell in a cell match is just awesome. It is the most hardcore and violent match I ever saw. I have very big respect for wrestlers because it was very and very dangerous for them. I really liked the main. It has pretty good brawling and very cool ending."

[8.0] "Undercard wasn't that great, KOTR qualifiers were lackluster, Al Snow vs Too Much was fun, X-Pac vs Owen was subpar and even though it was a good showing by the Midnight Express, I didn't care for their match vs New Age Outlaws. On the other hand, Shamrock vs The Rock is a good match and Mankind vs Taker speaks for itself, perhaps one of the most famous moments in WWE History takes place in this Hell In A Cell match and the main event between Kane vs Steve Austin is good with a nice but devastating finish :( RIP Stone Colds first title reign."

[8.0] "Another enjoyable event from 1998. The final three matches are all good, I think Undertaker vs Mankind HIAC is a must-see, not only for the bumps but also for the intensity. The tournament isn't the strong point of the event, only three matches and only one of them lasts more than 10 minutes. The only match that flopped is the tag team titles match, that version of the Midnight Express was bad. Al Snow provided entertainment with Head, one of the most funny moments."

[7.0] "The 1998 King of the Ring is, by far, most remembered for the classic Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Mankind, and in particular for the insane risks Mankind took in said match. While the other two main events Austin vs. Kane for the title, and Rock vs. Shamrock in the KOTR finals - were also well done (if overbooked in that classic Attitude Era way), it's definitely the Cell match that viewers will be looking for on this show first and foremost. The undercard, unfortunately, isn't nearly as strong, with the KOTR semifinals matches being far too rushed, and the rest essentially just being filler. The show's classic moments, though, are still worth seeing."

[10.0] "I remember this show like it was yesterday and maybe my memories of it are colored because I was 10 years old at the time and was so happy to get a chance to go to the show. I was a huge fan of Ken Shamrock at the time, so I was psyched to see him win KOTR. Steve Austin losing the title the way he did deeply shocked me. Finally, if I close my eyes, I remember seeing Mick Foley go flying off the top of the cage into the announce desk and then again the second time through the center to the ring. It was a hell of a night."

[7.0] "Decent show. The undercard was okay, with only the Too Much v Al Snow standing out as being poor. There was nothing inspiring at that point either though. The two main events were just about to tip it from being an average show to a decent show, the Hell In A Cell match being an iconic encounter everyone knows about."

[7.0] "This show will always be remembered for the Hell in a Cell. It`s worth owning for that spectacle alone but there was a few extra matches on this event that make it worth it as well."
