[4.0] "Royal Rumble 1996, I feel like all the matches included the Rumble were just made as weekly shows and the Main Event showed something special, a event that doesn't enthusiast me since the matches were mid that started to affect my view of it. 4/10"

[6.0] "An extremely average card from start to finish. The rumble itself was probably the match of the night even though it seemed like a forgone conclusion that Michaels would be going over. Nothing on the main card was bad but nothing stood out either. 3 star show at best."

[4.0] "The best word to describe this PPV is skippable. I wouldn't say it was a bad show but it wasn't good either. A weak undercard, a boring and predictable rumble match , ending the show on a DQ, Not a big fan."

[5.0] "An extremely consistent show. That's what makes this one enjoyable. From start to finish there are no duds, so this is a very easy card to put on, sit back, and enjoy. However, there's no spectacular matches either. I guess the WWF title match is the match of the night, but even that isn't all that special. So for this Rumble, you're sacrificing fireworks for consistency. Not a Rumble event that is going to be quickly rattled off in terms of favorites but still a quality event."

[4.0] "96 WWF isn't off to a good start with PPV's. The Pre Show match is a forgettable slog that spoils the 30th entry in the rumble, not a good idea (3/10) Johnson/Jarrett is a bit sloppy and ends by DQ. It does have a level of intensity and the Top rope guitar shot is good so its not awful, but didn't feel like a PPV match (4/10) Tag title match is average. Both teams have some cool combos, but there's no heat to most of the match. Sunny is a good manager. It's watchable (5/10) Goldust/Razor goes on for way too long for the amount of wrestling there is. Goldust's character work is interesting and he does get heat, but its not entertaining to watch him wrestle at this point. the finish with the 1-2-3 Kid hitting a spin kick on Razor is the highlight (4/10) The Rumble peaks with Jake's Snake spot for me. The resty of the match includes a lot of filler entrants that weren't part of the roster and , more importantly, Don't really add anything to the match. Omori throws a cool dropkick and thats the most memorable thing out of all these surprise entrants. HBK winning was the right choice, but it makes no sense to have Vader throw him out of the ring and then just say it doesn't count, despite wrestlers that were eliminated or not even in the match having eliminations in previous rumbles (4/10) The Main Event is the best match on the card but even then its pretty dissapointing. Bret does some good work in short bursts but mostly sticks to rest holds. Taker is still in Zombie mode so he doesn't bring much to the table apart from mystique. Also it's another DQ (5/10)"

And thats not worth the money. Especially when your main event goes nearly half an hour, doesnt live up to expectations and ends in a disqualification. Laaaaaame."

[6.0] "I really liked the Royal Rumble Match, so it's already half the show that I enjoyed. Michaels wins again as he probably should, since he's the most over guy in the fed right now. Apart from that there were a lot of great performances from Helmsley, Ringmaster, Yokozuna, Diesel and especially Vader. Other matches were alright too. Jarrett made Johnson look like million bucks, while the WWF Tag Team Titles match was a fun little team action. Razor and Goldust put on a contest that was clearly different from anything you've seen and I think that they executed it perfectly. But then the main event... I'm sick of Bret's "30 minute classics" as during them he doesn't use any charisma at all and we're stuck with endless holds and punching outside of the ring. These past few PPVs really made me not anticipate the Bret Hart match and it's a sad thing, since I love his matches with Piper, Hennig or Hakushi. The finish to this also doesn't belong on a PPV, since it's such a lazy DQ end that you just can't help but be mad about it. Overall the show was pretty decent, but it would have been better if the main event and the Rumble Match changed places."

[5.0] "Just like the previous year, the Rumble match itself really exposed how paper-thin the talent roster really was at this point, with a number of one-off appearances from outside talent (Funk, Gilbert, Omori), low-level guys (Horowitz, Montoya, Fatu, Yankem) and ones who just wouldn't work out (the two Squat Team members), and an end-result - HBK winning - that could be seen a mile away. It wasn't without its positives, of course; Vader's debut was handled well (unfortunately unlike most of the rest of his run), and I thought the use of the Free-For-All match between HHH and Droese (winner gets #30 in the Rumble; loser gets #1) was a clever idea. The Bret-Taker main event was solid overall though, and Goldust vs. Razor was OK too with the debut of Marlena adding some extra depth in figuring out what Goldust at this point was all about. The other two undercard matches, Jarrett vs. Johnson and Gunns vs. Bodydonnas, were OK if unremarkable as well (though the former may indeed be one of Ahmed's better singles matches). The company certainly looked more than a bit hypocritical spending so much time on another terrible "Billionaire Ted" segment making fun of the age the headliners recently defected to WCW, while featuring a then-47-year-old Jerry Lawler and 54-year-old Dory Funk Jr. in the Rumble match. This all evens out to a show that falls right in the middle - certainly not terrible, but far from great."

[5.0] "Three of the four non-Rumble matches on this card had interference and/or DQ finishes, which hurts it quite a bit. Making people look strong in defeat is something WWF/E has always struggled with. There was little tension in the Rumble itself as Michaels' win had been telegraphed in advance, and the main event was way longer than it needed to be. I guess they just didn't have the roster to put a couple more matches on the card. Overall it's a decent watch, and a vast improvement on most of the previous year's shows, but the best part of the show for me was Goldust's character work which plenty of people dislike, so it's hard to strongly recommend this."

Makai Club wrote on 24.06.2019:
[7.0] "This was quite a show. Fairly easy to watch despite the last two matches going on for considerable amounts of time. The undercard was good with solid opening match, a very good IC title match with Goldust and Razor Ramon. The main event underdelivered, but I still enjoyed it and the Rumble was also very good. Best To Worst: Royal Rumble Match - [***3/4]. Razor Ramon (c) vs. Goldust - [***3/4]. Ahmed Johnson vs. Jeff Jarrett - [**1/4]. Bret Hart vs. The Undertaker - [***]. The Smoking Gunns (Bart Gunn & Billy Gunn) vs. The Body Donnas (Skip & Zip) [**1/4]"

[4.0] "It seemed like an average ppv at that time. The first 2 matches were unnecessary, the tag match was okay and Goldust match was watchable too. The rumble match had good moments, Vader debut, Michaels-Diesel storyline. The main event was too long, and had a really bad ending for a Royal Rumble."

[5.0] "The Royal Rumble match is disappointing, the roster is still bad and some wrestlers are pure fillers. Vader has a good debut, Jake Roberts returns and Shawn Michaels wins for the second year without too much effort. Bret Hart vs Undertaker is okay but nothing special, it's more a match to set up Taker vs Diesel. Razor Ramon vs Goldust is interesting with good psychology, the other matches are bad and avoidable."

[4.0] "Another mediocre Royal Rumble in the books. Really, the entire event was mediocre. Ahmed Johnson vs. Jeff Jarrett. The Smoking Gunns vs. The Body Donnas. Even the okay-on-paper Razor vs. Goldust and Undertaker vs. Bret underwhelmed. Bleh."
