[6.0] "A pretty average show that felt like a house show on steroids. There were some cool matchups and it was fun to see all of the legends but it didn't seem like there was much storyline progression with this card and it definitely felt like the night was dragging on at points. Everyone loves the rumble matches so it was a solid idea to have 50 guys in there and Daniel Bryan really put on a show out there and carried the match, but in my opinion the IC Title match was easily match of the night. 3 star card."

[2.0] "There is some solid to good stuff on the show like Cedric Vs Kalisto, Styles Vs Nakamura and the WWE IC Title four way ladder match, but the rest of the undercard ranged from very weak to flat out awful, the so called "Greatest" Royal Rumble match is literally everything amazing about the OG Royal Rumble made worse and the being almost five hours long is an absolute pain. Overall WWE Greatest Royal Rumble (2018) is a really bad show that truly failed to leave an impression as the their first Saudi Arabia show and most of them going forward."

I still to this day think this devalued the rumble and with it now showing over this next weekend in Saudi I think my point is proven. The slippery slope actually happened and now we all have to deal with it"

[5.0] "I remember watching this around the time and not hating it. Now I hate it as a concept but the card is whatever. It's a show of varying quality with great cruiserweight action, a good ladder match and AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura was great besides it's double countout ending. Where the show fails is just how low effort the undercard was and how mediocre the big money marque matches are. The tag division is boring, Jinder Mahal still is hopeless in the ring and John Cena and Triple H phone in as the openers. Sprinkled in is the worst aspect of the show and that's the Saudi government itself. Propaganda video packages of how westernized Saudi is becoming is to be expected but WWE also has to give floor seats to the royal family who have no interest in the product whatsoever, not cheering with their backs turned constantly. This makes crowd response impossible to hear unless you're a big name superstar because the real fans are a good 60 metres away from the the ring. Not nearly the worst Saudi show WWE ever did but still has bloody hands for sure. At least we got Mansoor out of it. Imagine if this show never happened, would we even have the MxM Collection? The main event scene deliver some absolute borefests as Undertaker gives us yet another whatever casket match against a geekish Rusev who deserved better at the time and a hastily put together Steel Cage match between an unenthusiastic Brock Lesnar and a limited Roman Reigns. The Greatest Royal Rumble didn't live up to its name but this stipulation is pretty bomb proof. You get to see returning legends, some decent performances from Daniel Bryan and Chris Jericho, a few appearances from total no names and probably the highlight of Titus O'Neils career. Is this the one Saudi show worth checking out? No I wouldn't go that far but it is not devoid of quality, you just gotta dig for it"

[3.0] "Lots of boring and terrible matches. On paper a lot of this seems like it should have been good. However this is Saudi shows in 2019 so that's not possible. Some stuff was matches past there prime but others was god awful. Ladder match, Aj vs Shinsuke, and Cendric and Kalisto were solid but not enough to carry the whole show."
Wrasslinfan619 wrote on 19.06.2024:
[2.0] "Saudi deal aside which is already messed up, this show sucks. The opener is meh, CW match is meh, the next 3 matches all suck. The ladder match is actually good though, WWE title match is again meh, Taker VS Rusev is alright and Roman VS Brock is bad. The rumble itself.. very up and down rumble. It might actually be the 2nd or 3rd best MOTN in my eyes but its still not good. Braun winning was very obvious, but Bryan getting the record was awesome so there's that."

[3.0] "I'm going to leave my personal thoughts of WWE's business dealings with Saudi Arabia out of this and try to rate this show in a vacuum. This show was the answer to "What if a house show was also WrestleMania? " The answer is, not very good. Very cool that Daniel Bryan got the Rumble record, which he still holds today on a technicality, but everything else around this show felt like they were trying *too* hard. I really liked the IC ladder match and that's about it. Where I do have to give them props is that they didn't reuse anyone for the Greatest Royal Rumble match, which I figured would be recycled from the rest of the card."

[6.0] "From the first WWE show in Saudi Arabia I expected a huge disaster (and I will probably find it in the next Arab events), and instead it turned out to be a sufficient show, nothing more and nothing less. Boring in some parts, sufficient in others, nice in the highest points. Aside from the political propaganda surrounding it, it's a pretty forgettable show that didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought it would be. Triple H vs John Cena is a simple "greatest hits" to please the very casual Arab audience, even if it is very boring in the middle part (2, 5/5). The Cruiserweight match was good and quick, even though the crowd was dead silent and the middle part was terribly boring (2.5/5). The first tag team match is boring, even if it's short, almost nothing happens (2/5). Jeff Hardy vs Jinder Mahal was as bad as people say but since it didn't last long I didn't hate it so much (2/5). The second tag team match was short but effective, and entertained for what it should be (2.5/5). The ladder match was good, even if I expected more (3/5). Aj Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura has a bad ending, but the match is very good (3/5). Undertaker vs Rusev is a boring and slow casket match, but I completely understand why they decided to rely on pure fanservice (2/5). The steel cage match is not as bad as people say. It's the classic Brock Lesnar finisher fest, generic but entertaining (2.5/5). The Royal Rumble match was surprisingly sufficient, and it didn't bore me (2.5/5). Ratings average: 6"

WWE title match was meh worse than their mania match a bit **1/4. The ending was rubbish. Casket match was super boring *. Universal title match was another garbage match from these 2 with finishers spam fest and a botched ending DUD. The rumble really made this show a bit better. [7.0] "Many have described this as a "glorified house show, " and in the grand scheme of things, that may well be the case, but for what it was this was mostly an enjoyable watch. The Rumble itself was a lot of fun, even if they had to stretch a bit to come up with 50 guys to be in it, but we got a good choice of winner in Strowman, the best post-comeback performance yet from Daniel Bryan (he shouldn't have won yet, you don't want to overpush him right out of the gate, but giving him a good run in the Rumble was a good call and he made the most of it); several other stars like the returning Lashley and, maybe most surprisingly, Elias also had strong showings, and we got some memorable moments like Tony Nese attempting to join the New Day and, of course, Titus' big trip. Elsewhere on the card, there was some filler to be sure, but Cena vs HHH was a good outing from two veterans that didn't overstay its welcome, the Cruiserweight Title match and the IC Title ladder match were strong, and Styles vs Nakamura was arguably better than their 'Mania match, though something still seems missing from that feud. They definitely need to separate Lesnar and Reigns at this point, though; that matchup still isn't getting any better. The women's division was certainly sorely missed. Not the "greatest" Royal Rumble, but overall the show was fun for what it was."

Cedric vs Kalisto - ***3/4, Deleter of Worlds vs Bar - **1/2, Jeff vs Jinder - *, Yeah this was rough with Jinder being as sucky as he usually is, Bludgeon Bros vs Usos - ** I understand they want to build up BB as forces of nature but these guys can have a great match and they should get some chance in the future, IC Title fatal 4 way - ***3/4 Thoroughly enjoyed this with a great ending, AJ vs Nakamura - ***3/4 Faster and better than their Mania match but with a lame ending though they needed the feud to continue, Taker vs Rusev - **1/2 No one was going to think Rusev had a chance in this but it was nice to see him get some offense in and get the chance to work Taker, Lesnar vs Reigns - ** Not as lame as their Mania match but too short and with repetitive moves and I am not a fan of these nonsensical finisher fests, GRR - *** Hard to rate this as there were too many job guys or lower midcarders at the start but it picked up well towards the end with a phenomenal performance by D Bry and even Elias and Strowman doing really well. The Titus botch was pure gold."

Anyone who expected some extremely important event was severely misguided, as it always seemed clear to me that this would be more of a showcase of talent than a storyline fueling show. Triple H/Cena was very enjoyable as they didn't waste time with trying to make the match something huge and epic. I liked the Cruiserweight match a lot as well. The last 5 matches also had a lot of fun moments as well. And of course, this show gave us the Titus Trip as well."

Not really. Was I sports entertained? Hell yeah I was. First half was a bit dull other than the Whisper in the Hurricane and Kalisto/Cedric being good. They went wild for Cena/HHH in Saudi. Ladder match was terrifying but pretty good with a good finish. Styles/Nakamura was still pretty disappointing. Taker/Rusev happened, Roman/Brock was forgettable BUT THAT RUMBLE. SO MANY BOTCHES I LOVED IT. HIROKI SUMI IS MY MAN. Braun keeps killing people, can't not love that. Also that Iran thing had me in stitches, Mansoor or however you spell it is my man. And yes Titus, he saved this entire thing. Got more fun towards the end, godawful show but I was entertained."

Daniel Bryan as the ironman of the match is great, really a fantastic performance. Braun Strowman is the obvious winner, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Mark Henry... every return is appreciated. Shane McMahon has an insane bump on the table. Well, the Rumble was fun, the rest of the event has some disappointing conclusions. The 4-way Ladder and AJ vs Nakamura are the strongest points, Hardy vs Mahal and the Raw tag team titles match are the lowest. Also Triple H vs John Cena which is always nice and a Casket match with Undertaker."

Was impressed with what I saw. This is pretty good showcase of what 205 Live has to offer. Cedric definitely deserves the win in my opinion. I'd like for him to have the title for quite some time. ; 3. ) WWE RAW Tag Team Title Match -Rating: 5; -Comment: This was a serviceable match. I would've been happy with either team winning. I'm honestly still a bit disappointed with the entire set up of the championship (i. e. that the championship was won then relinquished in the fashion that it was. ) I'm hoping that the RAW tag-team championship will be treated a bit better and will have a solid slate of challengers and consistently good matches/defenses. ; 4. ) WWE United States Title Match -Rating: 5; -Comment: Fairly good match. Surprised that Jeff Hardy won. I was really thinking that Jinder was going to win the U. S. championship. I think that Jeff Hardy definitely deserves this and it could be a good launching point for him going higher. ; 5. ) WWE SmackDown Tag Team Title Match -Rating: 6; -Comment: Not as good as it should've been. I think that a strong positive from this is that there were good offensive moves and then the momentum swung drastically. ; 6. ) WWE Intercontinental Title -Rating: 8 ; -Comment: Great match that helped everyone involved. ; 7. ) WWE Title Match -Rating: 7; -Comment: Better (in my opinion) than the Wrestlemania match. I understand why it ended the way it did. On to BackLash. 8. ) Casket Match -Rating: 6 -Comment: I was really relieved that this match did not end up "burying" (no pun intended) Rusev. It was long enough to be a good match. 9. ) WWE Universal Title Steel Cage Match -Rating: 6; -Comment: Kinda confused with the result. 10. ) Greatest Royal Rumble Match -Rating: 7"

[7.0] "In some ways this felt like a glorified house show, but in others it had a unique atmosphere and some pretty fun matches. Cena/HHH was worked super old-school and the crowd ate it up; it felt refreshing in a weird way (***1/2). Cedric & Kalisto had a very nice sprint-style title match with some nice big spots like the seated springboard Spanish Fly (***1/2). Deleter/Bar was okay, Bar worked Matt over okay, but I did really like Bray's hot tag (**3/4). Jinder/Jeff was nothing and had a silly botch (*1/2). Bludgeon/Usos was a quick meh sprint, but nothing was wrong with it; Harper is always nice to see (**1/4). Ladder match was decent; Joe & Miz shined when they were doing stuff and Finn/Seth were solid as well (***1/4). Saudi trainees vs Daivaris was a fun segment. Styles/Nakamura had a much more interesting match than at Mania, with more interesting exchanges and better pacing, while the crowd was more invested; everything from the lowblow to the count-out felt more like an angle, but it was pretty heated and set up Backlash well (***1/2+). Taker vs Rusev was decent to get the crowd to pop for Taker; as standard as it can get; damn shame English was hurt (**1/2). Brock & Reigns just kind of wailed on each other with signatures and finishes for some minutes with some cage spots, a chair, and a non-finish thrown in; better than at Mania though (***). The Rumble was actually really enjoyable; the early pacing was kinda bland until Angle, but it had plenty of good moments and various interesting/surprising/fun moments like Henry coming out, the trainee/NXT/205 entrants, whatever Titus did, and the various character interactions; Bryan is an absolute legend for working 76 minutes so soon after returning and doing so well despite getting beat up to hell and back; his interactions with Angle, Roddy, Owens, Shane, BRAUN, Lashley, Cass, etc. were awesome; BRAUN is the ideal winner too, eliminating loads of people including Cass (***3/4 to ****)."

[6.0] "6. /10 : This was so disappointing compared to my expectations. This was the most low-effort execution of a huge event I have ever seen, the show was unique and special already, but they had to add this oddness too ? This could have been so much more and that's my main beef with the Greatest Royal Rumble. The first hour was excellent, especially the first two matches, they were everything I would ever dream of. The crowd was so hot I kept thinking this is way better than american crowds. They were popping for signature moves ! It felt so special and grand, 60 000 people all happy to be witnessing a historic experience. That was Cena vs HHH. Then cue in the cruiserweights and they were so good they are about to get some new eyeballs on 205 Live. The following 3 matches were the least exciting of the night, and they were perfectly positioned at the prayer break time. The show got back on its feet with the ladder match that was above average, then the show went under-average as the crowd died with it too. Few salivating moments for the next 3+ hours. The local wrestlers were really cool, the spear through the steel cage and small things here and there dragged the show to the rumble which reawakened the crowd. Strong two starters but the parade of jobbers that followed set the tone for the rest of the night. We were getting as many surprises as if this was a normal 30 man rumble. Nothing special was in the books, and thus the rest of the match unfolded with a few pops here and there but by the time the rightful winner held his hands high, I was too tired and disappointed to care. WWE just did their lowest effort for an event of this size, an over-glorified house show of rumble match. If this is going to be an annual event, WWE better step it up next year cause they just lost all of their steam right here."
