[5.0] "The first day of a 3-day tournament and it's all 1st round matches. A good opening day. Not the show to go all out, but most of the matches where solid and fun. The Zack Gibson match was more a angle than a match. Not one I enjoyed much. The most disappointing match was probable the most anticipated, the main event with the return of Chris Hero against the nasty Chris Brookes. Long without finding it's footing. Didn't seem to be much passion in Ohno's performance and Brookes was way too kind to the WWE-contracted wrestler. The one I got the most enjoyment out of was Keith Lee -vs- Morgan Webster, in a entertaining small-guy/big-guy clash. Didn't like the finish, but the rest was a blast. Otherwise it was cool to see Pete Dunne wrestle the broken down Doug Williams for the brief time it lasted and Chuck Mambo trying to fight Zack Sabre Jr. was a party! Wish Tyler Bate vs Jordan Devlin was longer for I was starting to get into that one when it ended. Angelico facing Mark Andrews had potential which it didn't quite live-up to, but it was fine as well. Some with David Starr and TK Cooper. Pete Dunne -vs- Doug Williams [** 1/4], Zack Sabre Jr. -vs- Chuck Mambo [** 1/2], David Starr -vs- TK Cooper [**], Angelico -vs- Mark Andrews [** 1/4], Tyler Bate -vs- Jordan Devlin [** 1/2], Zack Gibson -vs- Joey Janela [1/4*], Keith Lee -vs- Morgan Webster [***], Kassius Ohno -vs- Chris Brookes [* 3/4]"

[3.0] "A night of decent, generally acceptable matches, with a 'highlight' of Gibson vs. Janela ending with one of the worst, most illogical finishes that I have ever seen."

[8.0] "Good first round stuff. Dunne/Williams was a really neat opener, really nice dynamic and storytelling. Mambo/ZSJ was brilliant, MOTN and Mambo really rose to the occasion and had his best match to date, a fine thing to see from such a likeable dude - ZSJ can't have a less than awesome match right now. Starr/Cooper was really solid. Angelico/Andrews was mostly a storytelling device with a few flips but Dennis is a great dickhead. Bate/Devlin was decent, felt like it could've been better. Janela battling GYV was a bunch of fun, very well booked. Lee/Webster was decent but not one of Lee's better matches. Ohno/Brookes was very good, the second best match of the night, the post-match speech from Ohno was fantastic as well, what a class act. All in all, a more than satisfactory first night that left some in the tank for the other nights."

[6.0] "Satisfactory night. Ohno vs. Brookes was match of the night (****). Devlin vs. Bate (***1/2), Doug vs. Dunne (***1/2) , Flash vs. Keith (***1/2) and ZSJ vs. Mambo (***3/4) were pretty good too. Starr vs. Cooper was just good (***). Angelico vs. Andrews was not good at all (**), and Janela vs. GYV was a too long brawl."

[5.0] "Dunne/Williams was an awesome opener w/ a big A - fantastic technical master veteran vs. young, also very technically sound superstar dynamic; MOTN (****), Mambo/ZSJ was a fantastic performance by Zack & a very good, borderline great match overall (***3/4), Starr/Cooper started off well, but after the German Suplex no sell spot, things went downhill - not a bad match overall though (**), Angelico/Mandrews wasn't good at all (*), Devlin/Bate was very disappointing - didn't dig Bate's performance at all (*1/2), Janela/GYV was a very well done angle/segment, had a fun time watching it, Keith/Webster was even better than their previous match - very good David vs. Goliath battle (***1/2), I also enjoyed Ohno/Brookes very much, even though Brookes didn't do much for me in it (***). Overall a solid first night of the tournament w/ some highs & some lows."
