The only thing that was outright bad , as expected , was the Yano / Tonga match . The under card was fair to middling . Big upsets in the semi and the main added spice to the card . My top match was EVIL vs. Kazuchika Okada which was great ."

Satoshi Kojima -vs- SANADA – (G1 Climax – Block B) [***], Michael Elgin -vs- Minoru Suzuki – (G1 Climax – Block B) [*** 1/4] Elgin against Suzuki shenanigans, having to fight off his posse in between finding himself in danger to Suzuki’s madness. Entertaining match where Elgin was put-over in a massive way! Not only did he beat off the stooges, he out-smarted Suzuki on a lot of his stuff. And that finish…. out of nowhere. Uraken! Elgin Bomb! And Suzuki didn’t know what hit him! You rarely see Suzuki put someone over this big! Juice Robinson -vs- Kenny Omega – (G1 Climax – Block B) [***], “King of Darkness” EVIL -vs- Kazuchika Okada – (G1 Climax – Block B) [****]"
[5.0] "Ein. Singles. Match. Mit Chase Owens nicht der interessanteste Gegner für Kitamura, aber immerhin. Ansonsten der übliche Tease. Langweilig (Ibushi/YH) bis okay (Nagata/ZSJ) oder auch ein völlig lahmes BULLET CLUB-Match. Mal wieder eine Episode Takeshi’s Castle zu Beginn des Block B. Es müsste nur noch jemand ins Wasser fallen. Tama aber insgesamt ganz gut unterwegs, retter hier aber auch nichts. Dass er Punkte holen darf, ist weiterhin eine Schande. (DUD) Kojima mit der nächsten schönen Face-Performance und endlich mal belohnt. Mit SANADA klickt das zwar nicht immer so für meinen Geschmack, aber es entsteht ein ordentliches Hin und Her mit einer offenen Schlussphase. (***¼) Kein Brawl ringside, dafür übertriebenes Heel-Work die 14. ! Alles wie immer mit Suzuki und die Refs müssen das ja dulden. Diese Ehrenquatschlogik nervt mich. Das bringt definitiv keinen Spaß mehr. Im Ring ist es dann überwiegend okay und lebt von Elgins Impact-Moves. Kenny darf gegen Juice endlich mal wieder den Heel rausholen und Juice mit seiner Face-Performance wieder etwas übertreiben. Liefer dennoch ein paar gute Sequenzen und macht größtenteils Spaß. Schlussphase ist okay, aber dann auch einfach vorbei. Verrückt, nicht alles rund, aber grundsolide. (***½) US Championship-Titleshot incoming. EVIL glänzt wieder durch puren Willen, Okada schlängelt sich mit seiner typischen Art drumherum. Die (gute) dominante Phase EVILs verkauft der Champ standesgemäß ordentlich. Die Konterphasen sind dabei aber zu selten wirklich sehenswert. Der erste Rainmaker-Tease kommt quasi ohne glaubwürdige Vorarbeit Okadas. Schlussphase wird dann zu einem offenen Schlagabtausch mit schönen Nearfalls, die auch EVIL gut over bringen. Starke Sequenz, sehr verdient für den MPV von Block B. (****) Gutes Ende, aber insgesamt wieder etwas zu dünn, G1-Part kommt immerhin auf 6, 75."
[8.0] "Tonga vs. Yano (**) - Kojima vs. SANADA (****) - Suzuki vs. Elgin (***1/2) - Omega vs. Juice (***1/4) - Okada vs. EVIL (****1/2) Incredible matches with another Yano 7 star classic and an amazing main event. Really good show."
[8.0] "Tag 14 ist wahrlich der Tag mit den Überraschungen. Jeden Sieger hätte ich hier anders vorhergesagt. Yano/Tonga ist angenehm relativ kurz gehalten, wie Yano Matches sein sollen. Kojima's Story über den G1-27 ist meistens eh immer klar, aber vor allem gegen SANADA fruchtet die Posterboy/Oldie Story sehr. SANADA verkörpert in seiner Rolle gute Athletik und physische Überlegenheit, es sind aber Kleinigkeiten, die Kojima hier immer wieder den Zug rein und am Ende den Sieg erlauben. Vor allem die Schlussphase war sehr kompakt mit 2 starken Near-Falls (***½). Elgin/Suzuki ist bei dieser Konstellation etwas enttäuschend. Suzuki Matches werden im G1 durch die Run-Ins extrem repetitiv. Das tolle Hin und Her am Ende, die Gute Story rund um Power v/ Intelligenz und der Überraschungssieg wertet das Ganze aber noch einmal richtig auf und macht's solide (***). Juice/Omega folgt mit der nächsten Überraschung. Kenny zieht Robinson hier über weite Strecken, aber auch dieser zeigt tolles Selling. Die Kontersequenzen in der Mitte sind alle technisch einwandfrei, Juice's Siegeswillen kann man ihm vom Gesicht kaufen. Gerade wenn man denkt, dass es (leider) vorbei sein wird - Dragon Suplex, V-Trigger + OWA Attempt schafft es Juice sich den Sieg per Einroller zu schnappen. Selbst der Ref Kann's nicht glauben (! ) Tolles Match (***¾). ME kann das Sprungbrett für EVIL sein. Match folgt anfangs dem gewöhnlichen Okada ME Prozess, bis EVIL auf einmal brutal Okada mit Stühlen zusammenschlägt. Gefällt mir und ist erfrischend ! Ansonsten hat man in der MidPhase viele nette Spots und ein tolles Hin und Her. Besonders hervor zu heben ist dann aber die Schlussphase. Wie so oft gibt's fantastische Schnelle Reversals, Transitions und Kontersequenzen, Hervorragender ME (****¼ + MOTN). Insgesamt macht das: 7. 67/10"
"Cool metallic structure at the entrance-way that evokes the bottom half of an Alien's egg or the pod in which human Jeff Goldblum merged his genes w/ that of a fly. Yano/T Tonga: * 1/4 TT surprised Yano much in the same way as uzuki; what a creep. illiness - tape and gavels ensue. SANADA/Kojima: *** Trainer v. student - for years S has fought w/out success at pinning one of his mentors, and even though the sensai has been beaten by everyone, the student still can't get the job done. Even for a stone-face S came across petulant when applying the master's chops against him. The match was conventional in every sense until S missed the Muto moonault after the etended D sleeper application. Some neat reverals and a good near-fall occured after a Kozy N Light bomb. K hit what could have been a finishing lariat but as out at 1. Yet Kozy hit another and got the pin! Good for the booker who I think must have already have S's long-due victory in mind for a more memorable occasion. The crowd enjoyed this one. Suzuki/Elgin: ** 3/4 The usual S-gun slop w/ the kink in this bout were multiple chair shots to M's rt arm to prevent him from eecuting his power arsenal. It didn't work. Late I thought w/ squeezing the sleeper into Big M that it was game over, but ME spun out-of the Gotch attempt and Elgin-bombed him for the victory. Juice/Omega: *** 1/3 - 1/ 2 On Tag 14 Juice walks out w/ his left knee better than all but his first two singles matches. That didn't stop it from being the story of the match, and O's work didn't stop Juice from using the 'injured' knee to reverse the tide, like the pinning kick (that whiffed. ) Though O is an exciting competitor, emotionally his in-ring feels manic-spaztic... a shiny hi-tech machine but w/out the comfort of a seemingly more sturdy presentation.. The finish was a great shock b/c now Kenny has to win out & Okada has to lose 2 of his final 3 matches, incl to Omega, in-order for Kenny to face Naito in the finals."
[10.0] "Yano vs Tonga was another fun match from both guys; their charisma meshed well (***). Kojima vs SANADA started out normally but quickly got REALLY heated as the crowd clamored for a big Cozy win; after some great evasive sequences the HUGE, decisive lariat is hit and Kojima picks up his first 2 points in the tournament; great compact match (****). Elgin vs Suzuki was great when they actually going at it, but the interference got in the way of that; I've liked Suzuki's use of interference a lot in this match, but outside of Big Mike just chucking Despy & Taichi at the same time I think it actually took away from this; good selling on the arm and a big win for Big Mike though (***1/4). Juice vs Omega had heat from the start, and had some really good leg work as Kenny's targeting and Juice's selling were both on point; Juice's comebacks were against just fantastic, and the finish was a huge shock that got a massive pop which was just tremendous (****). Okada vs EVIL was Okada's best match of the tournament thus far; EVIL's psychology in wanting to beat the champion definitively despite his outside brawling and use of chairs contrasted with the cocky ace champ's lack of urgency in the ending stretch made this just awesome to watch; EVIL being the first man to beat Okada 1v1 in a year is crazy and I love it (****1/4). Arguably the best show of the better block in this G1."
[7.0] "Yano/Tonga - exactly what it needed to be * SANADA/Kojima - really good match, great stretch ***1/2 Elgin/Suzuki - too much Suzuki-gun shenanigans, but still pretty solid match **3/4 Omega/Juice - another very good match, imo a little bit better than SANADA/Kojima. Juice's win is the biggest upset in the tournament so far, crowd reaction was priceless ***3/4 Okada/EVIL - great main event with awesome finishing stretch, EVIL's win was a great moment ****1/4 Overall a pretty good show."
[8.0] "Kitamura/Owens: ***1/4. Fun and to the point. Kitamura is so good already. Chase is really good too. Tama/Yano: **. Fine. Basically a night off for Tonga. SANADA/Kojima: ***3/4. Almost 4 but not quite. Finally Kojima Wins! Elgin/Suzuki: ***1/4. Cannot give it a higher rating than that. The second I saw Taichi I knew exactly what this match would be. Way WAY too much interference. Shame they couldn't have just had a match. Juice/Omega: ***1/2. Not too surprising. Will probably lead to a US title match soon. Pretty good match. Okada/EVIL: ****1/2. Fantastic. Okada finally Falls! Great show."
[7.0] "Der große Upset Tag aus Osaka. Okada & Omega werden zum Ende des Turniers gebremst damit es spannend bleibt. Jeweils tolle Momente für Juice und EVIL. Die Crowd hat es extrem gut aufgenommen. Yano vs. Tonga war der typische Yano Blödsinn und so langsam hab ich mich daran satt gesehen. Elgin vs. Suzuki leidet hat den Eingriffen, aber Elgin sieht trotzdem cool aus. Upset #3 gab es dann bei Kojima/SANADA."
[4.0] "Tama/YTR happened - at least the start of it was amusing (*), SANADA/Kojima was pretty dull, but overall an OK back & forth match (**), Elgin/MiSu was good - enjoyable battle of pure power vs. MiSu's technical skills (***), Juice/Omega was the best match of the night - Juice continued to shine w/ another great performance & the finish was amazing (***3/4), I felt nothing when watching EVIL/Okada until the finishing stretch kicked in - technically the match was fine, but it was missing some spark & emotion - I would call it good though (***). Overall the show was a little bit on the weaker side, but it was still pretty solid."
[6.0] "Fine show with a great main event finish. Yano beat Tonga in a nothing match, **. Kojima surprisingly ends his losing streak with a win over SANADA, ***1/2. Elgin vs Suzuki should have been so much better, but interference ruined it; I hope Elgin gets a title shot in an better match, ***1/2. Kenny tried his hardest, but he still couldn't get any heat on Juice, that upset finish is great though, ***1/2. This could have gone either way, but EVIL finally defeated the almighty Okada to settle himself as a force to be reckoned with, ****1/4."
[8.0] "Kitamura vs Owens was a really fun, short match ***. SG vs team Nagata was fine **3/4. BC vs Tenzan/Oka was decent **1/2. LIJ vs team Makabe was fine **3/4. CHAOS vs Tana/Ibushi/Finlay was really fun ***1/4. Tonga vs Yano was another really fun Yano match. SANADA vs Kojima was really good and the crowd was into it ***3/4. Elgin vs Suzuki was really good as well ***3/4. Juice vs Omega was great, crazy upset for Juice and a monster a pop when he won ***3/4. EVIL vs Okada was fanatstic. EVIL continues to impress in his matches. A big thing to be the one to beat Okada ****1/4. Good show with some crazy upsets"
[8.0] "Guter G1 Tag. Tama vs Yano war da. Kurzweiliger spaß ** 1/2. Kojima vs SANADA war ganz gut mit einem tollen Pop am Ende und einer spannenden Finishphase *** 1/4. Elgin vs Suzuki enttäuschte Matchtechnisch, aber dies lag halt am Gimmick von MiSu im bisherigen Turner. *** 1/4. Omega vs Juice war super stark. Juice hat es hier an gewissen stellen sogar geschafft einen Omega zu übertrumpfen und zu outshinen! Finish war extrem smart und der Pop gibt dem Booking recht ****. Okada vs EVIL war ein toller Main Event und gehört wohl unter die besten Matches im bisherigen G1 verlauf. Okada ist endlich besiegt und EVIL ist jetzt ein ganz großer! **** 1/2"
[9.0] "Der Climax-Tag der großen Überraschungen! Nach meinem Dafürhalten konnte sich keiner der Favorisierten durchsetzen. Tonga vs. Yano typisch Yano, jetzt reichts damit aber auch. Kojima und Sanada haben ne gute Chemie, schaffen es einen ausgeglichenen Kampf zu zeigen (***3/4) Elgin vs. Suzuki, Elgin trotzt dem kompletten Suzuki-gun Team mit seiner Kraft, geht in Ordnung (***1/4) Robinson vs Omega mit der Überraschung, sehr gute Chemie und ein sehr solider Kampf, selbst die japanischen Zuschauer riss der Juices Sieg aus den Sitzen (****), damit wusste man schon, dass Okada doch nochmal verlieren würde und siehe da, mit EVIL genau den Richtigen auserwählt; sehr solide, ging mir dann aber doch etwas schnell am Ende; ein überheblicher Okada verliert und darf sich dann nächste Woche auf einen zornigen Omega freuen, der alles versuchen wird, Okada endlich zu besiegen; das Match kriegt (****1/2). Ein sehr erfrischender Climax-Tag und man merkt, wie die Spannung langsam steigt und nächsten Woche endlich gipfeln darf!"
