[4.0] "Some fun matches, but a large share of disappointing ones. Not the big ROH show it promised to be. Frankie Kazarian -vs- Hangman Page – (Strap Match) [**] Unspectacular strap match. They tried to spike it up, but it rarely was very exciting. Kazarian was the lifeline, looking sick with aggression and hung the Hangman! Jay Lethal -vs- Silas Young [** 1/2] I wasn’t too hyped for this one, but they gradually won me over with a solid fight. Helped with the overall happiness that Lethal was crushed through a table by The Beer City Bruiser after the match! KUSHIDA -vs- Marty Scurll – (ROH Television Title) [* 1/2] They just wasn’t clicking. The last minute was alright, but otherwise it was a surprisingly poor title match. Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson -vs- Chuckie T & Trent Barreta -vs- Hanson & Ray Rowe – (ROH Tag Title; Tornado 3-Way) [** 3/4] Young Bucks, War Machine and The Best Friends give us a good time! More like a bunch of pals playing around than a war, but who cares when they’re the only ones managing to wake the fans up. Christopher Daniels -vs- Cody – (ROH Title) [** 1/4] The big title change symbolizes how mediocre Daniels’ reign has been. Solid uninteresting wrestling, starting Cody’s reign off at the same level as Daniels’ unimpressive time at the top."

[5.0] "I had very little interest in this card, and the general direction of ROH, so getting through this show was a bit of a slog. The origins of my apathy towards the Main Event emenated some nine months back when, out-of-nowhere, and just prior to the memorable tag-team title ladder match, over-pushed heel C Daniels delivered his finest-ever babyface promo. The potency of his speech gave a poignancy to the brutal beating he endured, but afterwards I felt abused like a cheap mark by his chutzpah to deliver this dire, agonizing, existential 'I'm old, lacking prospects, pity-me' affair as he always sold himself to TNA when he had to, or when the time was right. Likewise, Cody will try anything to get over but the difference is that CD is a very good in-ring competitor whereas Cody is painstakingly average. In addition, he too doesn't play fair w/ the face-heel axiom as the bad guy in this spiritually askew drama was basically crying, begging to be empathized with, after winning the title. Outside of ephemeral pleasures like a little U Guerrero, B City Bruiser splashing his frame through a table, the dullard yet oddly pushed Gresham f**king-up a leap-to-the-rope springboard spot, this was very much a two-match gig. Marty's mastered the rhythms of a highly credible storyteller but he lacks the stature, both in size and believable villainous spiritual spectre, to entertain me through the empty spaces of his heel workover. Good match though... 3 1/4 - 3 1/3. The highlight of this evening, like many a ROH show, were the Bucks bringing the Reseda energy & free-for-all match-construct to the proceedings. I did not care, though, for the finish w/ the big boys carrying the 'Best Friends' for the 'Indie-taker;' It was too clear from Rowe's facials. Due to the monetary success and the lovefest they get to indulge in, I am longing for them to enter a program in which I get to see them get their a** kicked by the team of Low-Ki & Fujita Hayato... I can always dream. 4. 75"

[7.0] "While the 2017 installment of Best in the World didn't feature a whole lot of standout, blowaway-awesome matchups (arguably with the exception of KUSHIDA vs Scurll), it was a very solid night of wrestling with good matches throughout. The main event played out its story well of the company's future hanging in the balance as the dastardly outsider Cody challenged company founding talent Daniels, the three-way Tag Title match was good chaotic fun, the TV Title match was very good and solidified KUSHIDA as a legit champion after his initial win was made with some outside interference, Dalton and the Boys winning the 6-man titles was a fun surprise and the possible friction between Bully and the Briscoes could be interesting, and Kaz vs Page was a good grudge match with some rather brutal stuff involving the spiked belt. Good if not great show overall that seemed to largely be setting up future events."

[8.0] "Another good in-ring PPV from ROH. Ultimo Guerrero carried the hell out of his mediocre opponents and average partner and got a HOT opener out of them (***). Kazarian vs Page was really brutal and had some great spots like the fall to the floor that Page set up himself much earlier; it really felt like a violent feud-ender and I loved it while proving Page is great in hardcore situations (****). Search & Destroy vs Rebellion had 5 great wrestlers (4 of them on the face side) and zero reasons to care; Gresham, White, & Shane Taylor predictably killed it in a decent match (***). Lethal vs Silas wasn't as good as their Milwaukee match, but it was quite good (***1/4 to ***1/2). Dalton & The Boys vs Bully & Dem Boys had some awesome character interaction and an awesome performance from Castle and The Briscoes; Dalton & Bully's comedy sequence sucked some of the heat out of this, and the finish felt a little cheap, sadly (***1/4). Scurll vs KUSHIDA sadly lacked chemistry, but they had some really nice sequences and individual moments (*** to ***1/4). Bucks vs War Machine vs Best Friends was a really great nonstop spotty match where everybody gave their all; Chuckie T & Trent? both put in a ton of work and both Hanson & Rowe remain awesome hosses; the best Young Bucks match of the year for sure (****1/4). Cody vs Daniels was a very nice main event that had some good tension and a story about keeping ROH's title within the company and respected; the main issue I had with this was the crowd, as Cody was portrayed as and played a total shithead heel but the crowd cheered him and booed Daniels, Bullet Club is too popular in ROH to play dastardly heels; Cody doing the Rainmaker was fucking great though, and the last third of the match had a lot of good wrestling into the finish (***3/4). Not ROH's best show, but nothing on the show was bad even if some things were underwhelming."

[7.0] "The opener CMLL rules tag was meh (*), Kazarian/Page was really good - a violent, intense grudge match (***3/4), S&D/Rebellion was very enjoyable - everybody got their stuff in (***1/4), Lethal/Silas was super boring - Silas working on top wasn't any interesting & the 50/50 stuff in the end wasn't any interesting either - the BCB attack was awesome tho (*), the trios title match was really meh (*), KUSHIDA/Marty was centered around Marty working on top for most of it, so naturally it was really bad - some neat moments/spots, but overall not a strong match (*1/2), Bucks/BF's/War Machine was terrific - a super fun spotfest w/ all 6-men involved killing it; easy MOTN & MOTYC for ROH (****1/4), Daniels/Cody was really good - the atmosphere was great from start to finish & everything after the Scurll/Kazarian interference deal was really good (***1/2). Overall a solid show. 8 matches w/ 4 of them being meh & 4 of them being awesome."

[7.0] "Decent show but some performances could've been better. Kingdom got really outshined by the CMLL guys, **3/4. Strap match was pretty brutal with both guys putting on a great effort, ***1/2. Eight man was really fun with Coleman and Jay being the standouts, ***3/4. Lethal/Silas was actually really good but disappointing ending, ***3/4. Six man was whatever but it got Dalton even more over than ever, **1/2. TV title should've been MOTN but the chemistry just wasn't there, ***1/2. Tornado Tag match on the other hand and was MOTN and a great spotfest but the ending kind of made no sense, ****1/4. Fuck Cody and fuck the crowd for turning on Daniels who carried that piece of shit to a decent match, ***1/2."
