This show was honestly carried by Jesse Ventura and Gorilla Monsoon's great chemistry and banter throughout the show, they're so incredibly likeable and keep the show lively even when genuinely nothing is happening. But yeah, skippable show. Best match: Mr. Perfect vs. The Blue Blazer Worst match: Andre The Giant vs. Jake Roberts (just uncomfortable to watch, felt really bad for Andre)"

It feels like the early editions of Starrcade, but even worse. The only two things that save it from being a complete disaster is a funny Piper's Pit segment and a HUGE main event. Perhaps it is the biggest match of the 80s. 4/10"

[5.0] "Wrestlemania 5 is a show with ups and downs. On the one hand it features the at this point in time best Wrestlemania Main Event with Savage vs Hogan (8/10), yet also the in my opinion worst match of the first five shows with the uncomfortable Jake Roberts/Andre match (0/10). Besides those two contests, the show features two good singles matches and three good tag team matches, while the remaining singles and tag team matches are either average, not good, too short, or all of it. Its ultimately yet another card filled with waaay too many matches, but still manages to be the best in terms of in-ring quality at this point. It does not feature that same atmosphere and iconic-ness as Wrestlemania 3, but is ultimately still a good show and receives a 5/10 rating."

Martel turn went a bit too long with the selling in my opinion. Warrior/Rude was good. A bit too long with some ? Decisions(Bruti getting a 10 minute match that ends in double counts? Why not put Rougeaus against Harts and Whax against R&B? Why was a murderer coming out for a random appearance & didn't wrestle or anything? Why did WWF have to give a paycheck to scumbag like MDJ) But overall a mostly enjoyable mania. You could probably Plus 10 at least a third of it, though"

[6.0] "There's a lot of people down on this WrestleMania and I can understand to an extent. There's a lot of filler and a few flat-out bad matches (a near-crippled Andre vs. Jake, and the non-match that was Hacksaw vs. Bad News the biggest offenders) and it once again takes place in Trump's Atlantic City casino with a half-interested crowd, despite how hot the WWF was at this time. At the same time though, there's a lot to appreciate on this card. For starters, this has the best main event of WrestleMania to this point with Savage vs. Hogan (***3/4). My most recent watch is probably the most I've enjoyed the match. Savage heels it up superbly and there's great drama here; just enough overbooking to paper over Hogan's weaknesses. We also get really fun WM debuts from The Rockers, Mr. Perfect and The Brain Busters, even if their matches aren't especially substantial. It's a definitively "okay" show in my book, but nothing too offensive."

This was a massive step up from the wrestling version of leprosy that was Wrestlemania IV, but it sure didn't lose the random nothing filler garbage matches like Bad News Brown and Duggan or anything from the middle of the show. This Mania did actually have stuff worth watching though like the Rockers match, Rude Vs. Warrior, and the main event which honestly carried the show for the most part. Getting better, but still little by little."

[4.0] "WrestleMania V was a rough show. The show is filled with matches, i guess back in the day they used to have multiple matches instead of a few good. Theres some really bad matches in this one like Andre vs Jake The Snake which was most definitely the worst match of the night, Brutus vs Dibiase wasnt good and same goes for the Tag Team title match and the The Bushwhackers vs The Fabulous Rougeaus even tho i have to say The Bushwhackers are very funny. Thankfully there are a few good matches here. The Rockers vs The Twin Towers was enjoyable it was a goliath vs david match but in a tag team way, Mr Perfect vs The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) was really good aswell but sadly it was a short match and last but definitely not least the big main event which was the match of the night. The rest matches are pretty average even though it was nice seeing Rick Rude winning the IC title but the match itself wasnt anything spectacular. Also it was really nice seeing Roddy Piper again and having The Pipers Pit in WM V."

Not even a mess or remarkably bad like Wrestlemanias 2 or 4, it is a step up, but just bland, and only remembered because of the feud between "Macho Man" Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan, which was the main event, however, unremarkable. The WWF really were trying to push the Macho Man as the bad guy and Hogan as the hero, but, it came off the other way around for me, however this is just an opinion. Overall, Wrestlemania V was just bland, and not worth watching."

[5.0] "Another year of WrestleMania, another year of having to sit through three-plus hours of Trump worship ad nauseum throughout nearly every match or promo segment. I positively can't wait for them to get away from him for the next go-around. The show itself had a pretty poor success rate across the overwhelmingly large undercard, but finished strongly with a classic main event featuring their two biggest draws and great storytelling. Otherwise, we got a lot of "pretty good" to "terrible" thrown into the mix. I mean "30 second squash match with The Red Rooster inexplicably facing Bobby Heenan" terrible. I mean "meaningless double DQ brawl between Jim Duggan and Bad News Brown" terrible. On the pretty good side, we did actually get to see two of the most talented in-ring competitors in WWF history square off when The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) and Mr. Perfect fought, but the match itself was extremely underwhelming and lacking in personality or importance. We also got a controversial title change for the IC belt to help spice up the midcard portion a bit more. The low point of the show was definitely the neverending live Piper's Pit segment featuring Brother Love and Morton Downey Jr (WHY? Why couldn't Mania pull actual celebrities that anyone at all liked? ). I've seen this show a couple times in the past, so I honestly just couldn't bear to not skip it this go around after the first few minutes of their babbling. Overall, this show is about 3.5 hours long but often feels even longer. The main event is a gem, but it's hard to recommend almost anything else here."

Twin Towers vs Rockers was a good little team vs big team match and Strike Force vs Brain Busters was a good match as well. The Main Event was the MOTN with all three Elizabeth, Savage and Hogan all doing what they needed to do to make this a memorable match for the right reasons. With all the good said this show had plenty of drawbacks with several of the matches not being great (Roberts vs Andre, Rooster vs Heenan, or Bushwackers vs Rougeaus) or being forgettable (Harts vs Valentine/Honky Tonk Man or Bravo v Garvin). Overall fine mania but definitely could have been better."

Demolition vs the Powers was the only big feud that resulted in disappointing results for me. The undercard matches were more of a mixed bag. The Rockers/Twin Towers match was a lot of fun, and Brain Busters/Strike Force was genuinely great, but the Bushwackers match was awful and Andre/Jake was a huge disappointment. Still, really solid on the whole, and one of the best WWF PPVs of the 80s."

[4.0] "I must admit, before doing this review, it had been a while since I sat down and watched Wrestlemania 5 entirely through. The biggest problem with Wrestlemania 5 that I even forgot until watching it back is the shockingly dead crowd for anything that isn't a title match. This might be the most dead crowd in Wrestlemania history. I think some of the worst Wrestlemania's like 11 and 13 still have a significantly hotter crowd than this. Even the better matches across this card feel 'less than' because they get no reaction. Martel has a pretty significant heel turn here, for example, and the crowd barely does more than give a polite boo. Crowd aside, though, this card isn't great. For a Wrestlemania so focused on the story, half of these matches are cold as ice. And then matches that WERE based on hot feuds grossly underdelivered, such as the tag title match and Jake vs. Andre. When your random cold matches are performing better, and getting a better crowd reaction than some of your hotter feuds, you know you have a problem. Fortunately, the two big title matches deliver, and get the crowd going. While I hate the almost out of nowhere Hogan ending to the main event, it was obvious that was what the fans were here to see. It delivered on the hype. When the dust settles, Wrestlemania 5 is a disjointed affair. Definitely not a bad show, and would have been better with a better crowd, but not what I'd call one of the all-time greats either."

Rick Rude deserves to be commended for his carry job on this show and being entertaining himself. The Bushwackers were absolutely dreadful here. Overall, this show is pretty middle of the road and not anything that special for a WrestleMania. I didn't have any match go above three stars on my personal scale. This show has the talent, but doesn't necessarily have good or interesting booking behind it."

[5.0] "This show was fairly boring. There were a lot of matches, but most of them had no business on any PPV, especially not WrestleMania. We opened with Hercules battling King Haku in a dull match. Haku just doesn't produce interesting matches. The Twin Towers then battled the Rockers in a fun match. The Rockers bumped their asses off to make the Towers look good, leading to one of Akeem's best matches. This leads into Brutus Beefcake and Ted DiBiase going to a double count out in a terribly dull match. That was followed up by a surprisingly good match between the Bushwackers and the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers. Don't get me wrong. It was terrible, but I expected it to be even worse. Mr. Perfect then battled the Blue Blazer in the match of the night. I wish that this went longer, but I understand that Owen was still a jobber at this point, and you don't give jobbers long matches. The Powers of Pain and Mr. Fuji then faced Demolition for the Tag Team titles in a match that was decent. It wasn't really good, but it wasn't that bad either. Dino Bravo then faced Ronnie Garvin in another match that was merely fine, before we got the Brain Busters facing a reformed Strike Force. This was really just a vector for Rick Martel's heel turn, which was well executed, so I suppose that it's fine that the match felt like an afterthought. Big John Studd then showed up to referee a snooze-fest between Andre the Giant and Jake Roberts. This was terrible and the outside interference from the Million Dollar Man couldn't come soon enough. Greg Valentine and the Honky Tonk Man then faced the Hart Foundation in a pretty good match. It could have been great, but it was obvious that Valentine and Honky were singles wrestlers teaming up, rather than a team like the Harts. Rick Rude then faced the Ultimate Warrior for the Intercontinental belt in a match that was fine. Honestly, that's pretty good for a Warrior match because he is dogshit. We then cool the crowd right down with a three minute draw between Bad News Brown and Jim Duggan that contains very little wrestling and absolutely no selling. We then get Bobby Heenan facing the Red Rooster in a match that they somehow felt the need to soften Bobby up for. This pretty much kills the Rooster right here. I mean, more than the chicken gimmick, which wouldn't feel that outlandish in another three years. Finally, we get the big one. The Mega Powers explode as Hulk Hogan challenges Randy Savage for the World title. This is a very good match and a fitting end to the show. It almost made me forget how crap most of the card was."
JacquesRougeauCanHaveMyWife wrote on 09.09.2023:
[5.0] "It was a big mix bag, as it was doomed to be with the amount of matches that they had here. The Rockers looked impressive in their match and Perfect with Blazer put on a pretty good show for the time they got. The Brain Busters vs Strike Force was all about Martel's heel turn, but the whole bout was pretty good too. The main event was great but I just wish that Hulk wasn't booked like a literal god there, as him and Savage should have been matched in terms of their kayfabe talent. Other than that it was a hit or miss with some of the matches being awful stinkers and some being just mid, with the world title match being the main attraction."

At least half of the card just ambles along, feeling very slow and boring. The main event and the Twin Towers vs The Rockers (which was simply 'good') were the only matches worth watching in my view, with the rest ranging from mediocre to poor. I would not recommend watching this show in its entirety unless you are a completionist."

Rockers/Twin Towers was a nice surprise, Blazer/Perfect was a solid showcase that should've gone longer and Savage/Hogan was a good main event that hada an amazing build behind it. Everything else ranged from forgettable to absolute trash. Giving both the Bushwackers and way past his prime Andre 10 minute matches is one of the worst decisions they could've made here. Only thing keeping me from falling asleep at times was the Commentary team doing their absolute best. With all that said it was still slightly better than Mania 4"

This is a step above the previous year since Rockers/Towers and the main event (both in-ring and the mere presence of the Mega Powers feud) are better than anything on that show, but it's a close competition of which can be the bigger chore. The undercard is a little brutal here and there's a good 30 - 45 minute stretch without any wrestling, mainly taken up by the Piper's Pit segment which was just dreadful. As expected, Macho and commentary carry this show hard with some other minor highlights worth mentioning in Perfect/Blazer and Brain Busters/Strike Force."

While there are some gems on this card - and that main event absolutely belongs in the conversation of most iconic 'Mania main events of all time - the show just felt wayyyy too darn long overall, making it a mission impossible to sit through the whole thing in one round. Furthermore, this rotten Atlantic City crowd didn't give a crap about 80% of the show, giving off a tepid atmosphere that is more than enough to kill an entire PPV event by itself."

Brainbusters and Strike Force was the better of the two, but the Rockers vs Twin Towers was surprisingly good. Well, good for this show's standards at least. Hogan vs Macho is ranked insanely high because that match is hideously average for Hogan Mania matches. People point out Perfect vs Owen as a highlight of the show, but I think that just stems from good will for those two because their match here is also average. Every match not mentioned before is a boring waste, this show is not very good. Thumbs down :("

The opening match is a sluggish brawl between Haku and Hercules, and while we get a brief bright spot in the Rockers showing up big in their Wrestlemania debut, we're dumped into a dismal DiBiase-Beefcake match and an even worse Bushwhackers match. Mr. Perfect and the Blue Blazer is probably the single high point of the entire card, but it's too short and abrupt to really mean much. There's barely anything else worth even commenting on from there other than a lengthy Roddy Piper interview segment that badly overstays its welcome, especially when that's time that could have been given to Perfect and Hart, or even Strike Force and the Brain Busters or something. Still, this Wrestlemania serves as the culmination for one of the strongest stories WWE has told in the Mega Powers, and it deserves a lot of credit for that alone as we're taken to an emotionally charged and super strong main event. Overall, though, the card is too big, with very few high points, and it's not exactly going to go down as one of the best Manias."

The Rougeaux had potential as a heel tag team, but right after they finished with the Hart Foundation, they were stuck in this feud, which seemed to go on forever. This would be the debut of the Mr. Perfect that most people remember as they drop his real name in favor of the nickname, and he debuts his doublet. Blazer is the late Owen Hart, and I believe this is just before a knee injury hampered his career. At this point, he was going back and forth between the WWF and Stampede, playing a jobber in the former and the biggest star in the latter. As good as you can get in six minutes. ***1/4. Demolition vs. The Powers of Pain & Mr. Fuji.. Demolition kicked Fuji to the curb after some failed interference at Survivor Series 1988, and the Powers of Pain immediately scooped him up. This is the usual power match between these four, and it? s not bad for what it is. **. Dino Bravo vs. Ronnie Garvin. This sucked. *. Strike Force vs. The Brainbusters. This is Strike Force? s first match back together after Rick Martel returned from an injury he suffered a year earlier. The match is a bit short for the rating, but it? s one of those moments that is stuck in the minds of fans. ****. Jake Roberts vs. Andre the Giant. Jake and Andre had been feuding because Andre was deathly afraid of snakes. When Big John Studd returned after a layoff of several years, rekindling the feud with a now-heel Andre seemed like a good idea, so he was wedged into this feud as the special referee. It sucked. 1/4*. The Hart Foundation vs. Greg Valentine & The Honky Tonk Man. Decent tag match. **1/2. The Ultimate Warrior vs. Rick Rude. Good, solid match from Rude, and Warrior provided the overnness. **1/4. Bad News Brown vs. Jim Duggan. As with a lot of matches on the card, there wasn? t really much of a feud here. They were just two midcarders with nothing better to do. 1/2*. Red Rooster vs. Bobby Heenan. Absolutely nothing happened. 1/4*. Randy Savage vs. Hulk Hogan. You know the story here. These two were great together from ? 86-? 89. It was all downhill after that tho"

My favorite is Brain Busters vs. Strike Force but I also quite like Twin Towers/Rockers, Perfect/Owen, Haku/Hercules, the tag title match, and the main event. Great build to that main event by the way, one of the best ever, and the crowd was hot as hell. The Bad: Beefcake, Bushwhackers, Duggan, Warrior injuring Heenan before his match, and that endless unfunny Brother Love/Roddy Piper segment."

[3.0] "For the second year in a row, the WWF had way too many filler matches on their biggest show of the year, although this year's incarnation was a lot better than the mania before. This entire show was built around the Savage-Hogan explosion, which delivered well and was my personal match of the night. Other strong matches included the Rick Rude and Ultimate Warrior intercontinental title match, and the technical tag team match between the Brain Busters and Strike Force which was followed by Rick Martel's memorable heel turn. However, in the case of this event... the bad outweighed the good with matches like Jake Roberts versus a deteriorating Andre the Giant and the Bushwhackers facing off in a crap match against the Rougeaus (Not a huge Bushwhacker fan). Overall, I think this mania could be passed by and you wouldn't miss anything spectacular, although the Martel heel turn, and the storytelling in the Savage-Hogan clash are two matches/moments that you could watch, although this event is completely skippable."

[6.0] "I am rewatching every WrestleMania because I am going to Mania 35 this April and it will be a pilgrimage for me, so me and my friend are preparing myself to the journey. Watching the first 1 to 9 WrestleMania it's not easy to judge because is too different from nowdays work-rate etc it's hard to give a Star Rating system because many matches on the card are there only as starter to the Main Event that was the only thing that really mattered in the show. The old school Fans that say that this one was the golden era of wrestling and that period was better than the present one are starting from their own preconceptions. This WrestleMania had nothing really special except the main event that is really one of that matches that every WWE/F Fan had heard and watched at least one time in their lives. Megapowers explode was the Main Tagline of the event in a Storyline that was built in a year long between the then Champion Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan with the addition of Miss Elizabeth contention of both men. Macho Man is one of my favorite Workers ever and his gimmick his facial expressions are one of the best thing in the World. At the end Hogan won with his LegDrop of Doom in one of the most famous and and best Main Events of that Era. Plus Demoliton retaining the Tag Belts agains the Power of pain, Hart Foundation winnign against Rhitm & blues , Warrior losing the Intercontinental championship against Rick Rude in great Booking , one of the last Andre's matches ever at WrestleMania and much much more of unnecessary and boring matches. I am making my own personal Ranking of every WrestleMania and with and objective or subjective eye this ones are the worst editions (from I toV ) , they deserve some good spots in the ranking for the history that has within but from a quality point of view it were bad really really bad."

The best match of the undercard is BrainBasters vs Strike Fords. It was the beginning of Rick "The Model" Martel. Also Piper's Pit is very entertaining. Main event has a great story. The best match on the show and main reason why I gave this WrestleMania positive rating."
