[4.0] "Haters gana hate Hulksters gana Hulk. WM1 is awesome. Sure there is some stuff that doesn't age well and one could even argue was bland even then, theres actually boring chants during a Steamboat match with this one. But the stuff they do good is very good. The venue is iconic. The crowd is wild and on top of the ring and wrestlers, and the presentation is lightyears ahead of every other promotion at the time. The entrances in the Garden are always great and showing the wrestlers coming through the back of the curtain adds a element of intensity. Especially when real NYP cops in their dress blues are escorting the wrestlers out. Pure class. Sure the pre taped promos before each match with opponents taking turns talking to Mene Gene like they are in line for school photos is odd, but who cares. This show is filled with iconic moments and if you do not want to sit through the whole thing I recommend checking out the Main event, the Women's title match, and the Tag Team title match. Match of the Night: Hulk Hogan & Mr T vs Piper & Mr Wonderful Moment of the Night: Andre throwing out the money into the crowd Spot of the Night Richter hitting a reverse AA on Kai Entrance of the Night: Hogan and Mr T Outfit of the Night: Wendi Richter Worst Outfit: David Sammartino Worst Match of the Night: Bundy vs SD Jones Quote of the Night: "Unbelievable, pandemonium in the Garden"~ Gorilla Monsoon.  Fan of the Night: Young dude telling Volkoff and Sheik "F you" Sign of the Night: Studd is a dud. Chant of the Night: Bruno Bruno Bruno. Pop of the Night: Hogan & Mr T entrance"

Without the success of Wrestlemania, pro wrestling would be in a very different place it is today. Show is a 4.5/10 but gets boosted to a 6 due to historic importance."

[5.0] "Anyway, this was fascinating to watch but difficult to rate as an overall show. Its so historically significant. The question of "can Vince McMahon make sell pro wrestling as mainstream entertainment" was asked and answered here. The answer is yes, the territories will suffer for it. Overall I did enjoy watching this and am glad I did but the match quality itself was not so good. The in ring quality though is kind of not the point? Like, so many people are just over, JYD, Wendi, Mr T, Hogan. The main event especially had people melting down over everything that happened. I'm not as high on Borne/Steamboat as some people, in fact I liked the opener more. The tag title match also I feel a little bit cooler on then some folks. The chaotic main event was a blast to watch even if there was very little workrate. The celebrity involvement was largely well utilized. Comparing it to the JCP events I watched is especially interesting, as the match quality there is better but this delivers as an *event* a lot more. Production is largely better, and the energy and it just *feels* more important. All in all, I'm going to give this event a 5 I think, largely because the parts of the show that people tend to think are the highlights (Steamboat/Borne and the Tag Title match) fell relatively flat to me. It's a high 5/10 though, probably like a 5.5 if platforms allowed it."

Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik vs Barry Windham and Mike Rotundo was the best match on the card with great intensity and contributions from all the wrestlers. Andre vs John Studd was very messy and the finish to JYD vs Greg Valentine left a bad taste in my mouth. Overall, solid show (in context of course, all of this is adjusted for the product at the time)"

[7.0] "While this isn't a great WrestleMania in terms of consistent match quality, it was a huge success as a spectacle. The best matches in my opinion was the Tag Title Match, Steamboat vs Borne and the Hogan/Mr. T vs Orndorff/Piper main event, which was notable for several celebrity appearances including Mohammed Ali as the outside referee. Cindi Lauper also has a great appearance as Wendi Richter's manager in her win against Lelani Kai for the Women's Title. Its a very old school show in terms of the card as the matches are very basic, but there is also a bit of a charm with the way they all got a traditional sports presentation with the pre match interviews and trash talking and you don't have to have watched a second of wrestling to know who the good and bad guys are as the crowd are just into everything. The importance of the show ultimately puts my rating up here."
Hippykillerz wrote on 12.11.2025:
[6.0] "As an overall show, it ranges from mediocre to down right awful. The action was very 80s and has not stood the test of time for the most part. The tag title match and Steamboat/Borne being the only matches that are pretty good by today's standards. But you do have to watch this show with the mindset of this being the show that made wrestling what it is today. With that in mind, this show is a huge success. The amount of main stream celebrities lending their hand to add more viewers did fill forced, with only T, Cyndi and Ali seeming like their cared about the product. The stars of the 80s were here (Hogan, Piper, Andre, Sheik, even Bruno) were here. Overall, it can be a slug to get through, but every wrestling fan should give it a watch and respect what it did for the business."

From a pure wrestling standpoint, there were great matches like US Express vs. Sheik & Volkoff, but then there were a good number of stinkers as well. This show has value mainly as a historical facet in the development of the largest North American wrestling promotion, moreso than as a showcase of great wrestling, as it established the then-WWF's use of star power to bring wrestling to the layman. [4.0] "An utterly mid, yet historic, show, the first WrestleMania is a wrestling show that is actually a celebrity showcase that has wrestling happening throughout. Every match ranges from bad to inoffensive as Vince McMahon desperately tries to relate to the casual audience. It's basically him saying "We have Cyndi Lauper, we have Muhammad Ali; they're mainstream and they're here..." There's no real reason to go back and watch this show, aside from the sole reason of saying you have. Again, it's not a bad show, but there is not a single match or segment I would ever recommend to anyone to go back and rewatch. Pros: Alfred Hayes seemed like he was on the verge of/actively shitting himself whenever he is on camera which was peak comedy, both Iron Sheik promos were awesome (dude was rad), the atmosphere feels big and important, Piper and JYD have "it", "Easy Lover" is a banger song, historically important and the reason wrestling is what it is today. Cons: Wrestling is utterly unmemorable, many MANY stiff promos, a heavy reliance on celebrities that dates the show."

Very structured show in convention of few minutes match and hype interview is not an eye-catchy conception anymore, however it didn't bother people back in the day."

[5.0] "The first Wrestlemania is heavily carried by the fact that its the first Wrestlemania. This is without a doubt an historic event that would shape and change the future of the industry, star studded at every corner. But once you take off the nostalgia glasses, there are some issues lying underneath the hype and roar of the crowd. The short and average opener between Tito Santana and The Executioner (4/10) is followed by a typical Squash match, which is followed by another short and average Singles match between Ricky Steamboat and Matt Borne (4/10). Brutus Beefcake vs David Sammartino served the purpose to get Bruno on the card, but goes on too long and has a bad finish (3/10). The IC Title match between Junkyard Dog and Greg Valentine was not only poor, but had an even worse finish, making the whole thing a waste of time (2/10). The Tag Team Title match is good and easily the show's best match from an in-ring perspective (5/10), which gets followed by a below average Andre The Giant match (3/10) and a just as sluggish Women's Title match (3/10). The Main Event is an entertainment spectacle and the highlight of the show like it should be, and manages to be great despite in-ring weaknesses (6/10). In today's vision, this is a card filled with a lot of average to genuinely bad matches, with only the Tag Team matches worth checking out. None the less, the energy of the crowd, especially in the Main Event, tells you just how electrifying this show felt at the time, and how important it would be for the next decades of professional wrestling. Solely in terms of in-ring action, this show is a 3/10 (Below average, not good). But in combination with the energy of the crowd and its ever lasting legacy, its a good and enjoyable show, which earns it a (5/10) rating."

Tito Santana vs The Executioner (Buddy Rose) was a decent opener, Bundy vs SD Jones was a 24 second sqaush (shut up it wasn't 9 seconds), Steamboat vs Borne (the future Doink the Clown) was actually pretty good. Beefcake vs Samartino was bad and had a shitty finish, at least Bruno got a nice pop from the MSG crowd. MOTN honours goes to the tag title match. Andre vs Studd was about as good as you'd expect on paper, which is to say not very good though it had Andre slamming Studd, the women's title match was pure filler. And now the main event, Hogan and Mr T vs Piper and Orndorff. The main draw of the show, what Vince gambled his life on, a massive success yes but also a damn solid match as well. Overall, I'd recommend the show if you want to witness history unfold before your eyes."

[5.0] "The very first "WrestleMania" is a historic show, if not because of the quality of the card. It's quite interesting how different the presentation feels just two years later at WrestleMania III. At this point in time, WWF feels a lot like any other territory in the NWA, unlike the national sensation it would become when it started elevating the wrestlers' personae, introducing a wider array of gimmicks and generally becoming more colourful and slick in its production. The production value of this show is actually quite poor, with Lord Alfred Hayes awkwardly connecting different matches and promos together. As for the wrestling, this is quite a basic show. The best match is probably the main event between Hogan / Mr.T and Piper / Orndorff (***), which feels like a glimmer of the spectacle this show would quickly become. I also enjoyed Ricky Steamboat's performance against Matt Borne (**1/4) and the Tag Team Championship match between Sheik / Volkoff and the U.S. Express. Barry Windham looked like a real star in that bout. If the show rides off the back of its historical significance, that's okay. It lit the fuse that would become WWF's golden generation. My rating (5/10) is a balance between the quality of the card and its importance to the industry. It's also not a long show, so passes by fairly quickly."

It shows just how much the current debates on WWE/F could already have been made back then, as the show symbolizes the place taken by entertainment over the technical and sporting dimension. For although the matches were mediocre, it's undeniable that the presence of prestigious names, wrestlers or not, fired up the audience, as did the interventions and other controversies surrounding the matches. In-ring quality: 2.5/5. Non-match angles and segments: 0.5/3. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 5/10. Show seen on WWE Network."

Has some historical significance and fun commentary but isn't great on its own. 5/10"

The grand stage and the celebrities offer something fresh, a first for the time. Wrestling-wise, while the main matches serve as good attractions and the Main Event delivers in a satisfactory way, WrestleMania I flies at a pretty average attitude. A good balance between entertainment and wrestling, considering the style of the era. The Iron Sheik takes the MVP award in a series of generally good backstage interviews. On the commentary, it's the first of many great nights for legendary duo of Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura. MOTN goes to the Main Event. WrestleMania I walked so the rest could run."

However, watching the first ever Wrestlemania, you can feel that everything to do with it has come so far since the event. Most of the matches are mediocre at best, and awful at worst, the two exceptions were the tag team matches of the US Express vs The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff, as well as the main event of Hulk Hogan and Mr.t teaming up against Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper, while not mindblowing, or... that good by modern standards, are enjoyable compared to the rest of the card, the latter is now a very iconic match. Overall, the first ever Wrestlemania is nowadays an incredibly below average event, where none of the matches wre particularly memorable, and you get the feeling that the WWF didn't really know what they were doing, however, this is one of the most important events in wrestling history, it's historical value prevents it from being a forgettable mess, and Wrestlemania I crawled so the likes of Wrestlemanias X-7, XIX, XXX and XL, as well as all of wrestling, could sprint."

It is historically important, and it's positives for Wrestling history are countless. It was a success, and all that has to be taken into consideration for a final score. The main event at the very least delivered as well. My advice watch this show once and don't go back If you don't have to."

While the technical problems were nowhere near the soon-to-occur trainwreck of WM2, we still had Lord Alfred Hayes introducing promos from the Gorilla Spot looking (and somehow sounding) like a deer in the headlights, often cut off before he was finished speaking. Wrestlers (Borne comes to mind) would occasionally wander into promo shots, just a terribly organized first go of a PPV in many ways. From a quality standpoint, there's really not much to write home about. My favorite match was honestly the women's match, which was rated pretty poorly by this community. Despite some sloppy throws, the match arguably had the best energy and booking of the whole night. There were two matches that had strong "moments": The Andre/Studd match and the main event spectacle, but neither were well-worked matches. Meanwhile, even two plus workers like Steamboat and Borne weren't given the time or booking to do anything compelling with their chance. It's just not a show that managed to get "excitement" AND "quality" into the same matches much, mostly one or the other."

The first WrestleMania is hardly about the wrestling and it shows. Attractions and moments were given the spotlight here, obviously the right move considering we're two months past the 40th incarnation of the event. The first-ever main event is an absolute chaotic mess but it feels every bit as blockbuster as it needed to be, as Piper, Hogan, and Orndorff wonderfully integrated Mr. T into the match and made him look plenty good. There's an inherent charm to this Mania that makes it tolerable, though it certainly isn't one that I'd rewatch any time soon."

You have a hot opener, some midcard matches, and a great main event. It never really dragged on, and the layout was good. Both tag matches were easily the best of the card, but there were still other fun stuff like Andre-Studd, JYD-Valentine, and Richter-Kai. The presence of "jobbers" hurts the card, and easily could've been avoided if they featured people like The Magnificent Muraco or George Steele. Nonetheless, the crowd is hot and it's fun to look back at what was going on at the time. Overall, I think a fair rating is 5 out of 10. For individual matches, I'd give the opener 2.5 stars out of 5, Bundy-S.D 1.25 stars, Steamboat-Borne 2.25 stars, Beefcake-Sammartino 2 stars, IC Title match 2.25 stars, Tag Title match 3.25 stars, Andre-Studd 2 stars, Richter-Kai 1.5 stars, and the main event 3 stars. Mean Gene sings the national anthem, made me chuckle, he's not so good. King Kong Bundy looks like a 450-pound baby, not a hair on that body haha. We're only 20 minutes into the show and we've already had 2 matches! Ricky Steamboat is in tremendous shape. Lord have mercy, I forgot about David Sammartino, I guess this is before the tap out thing? And Bruno can still work like crazy! Those punches were fantastic! Jimmy Hart looking like a hairy Ringo Starr! And what a cheer for a non-title win for the Junkyard Dog, what a time those days were. Is it just me but did body slams just look so much more devastating back then? And Jesus Shiekh breaking that cane over that poor bastard's head. He went backstage and looked like he just got out of the shower, sweaty style! Now Big John Studd vs Andre the Giant, I was really looking forward to this. I love the concept, it's so so simple, but it's such a relatable story. I love Big John, all that hair, all that hoss meat. And here comes Andre, big grin on his kisser, coming to the end of his career. This match proves you don't need 10 dives to make a match exciting. It so simple, you make the match all about the slam, so you're on the edge of your seat the whole time, just waiting for it. You catch a whiff on it and you're on your feet. They're chanting slam! When was the last time you heard something like that? And he gets it, and the people are screaming for Andre! Andres's throwing the money to the people! And here we go with something I've seen very little of, vintage women's wrestling. Leilani Kai sounds like a name you'd here on NXT and man does she not look great. Moolah looks awesome but fuck her. Richter and Lauper, million bucks. I love that it's really taken seriously. This isn't a bra and panties match, this is two ladies trying to break the other. The commentators really put it over too. And here we go, the main event. What a strange set up this is. And here's Muhammad Ali, a little bloated, nut still has that champions aura. I honestly have no idea why Bob Orton is there, I guess they needed another heel and face out there in case Mr T gets lost. Paul Orndorf, what a physique, he looks better than Hogan here. Mr T looks like a million bucks here. I feel that the Rhodes/Reigns main event for XL is going to be exactly like this, 10 people in the ring, crazy overbooking, and whole lotta fun. Honestly very boring, I'm sure if I was there live, I'd have way more fun. And what an insane finish haha! Really love the respect Mr T showed the wrestlers and the crowd, and the respect given to Muhammed Ali. A rather quaint show by today's standards, the mystique of mania wasn't their yet. Big John Studd vs Andre The Giant was my favorite match."

No match on this card can be called a really good one - the Tag Title Match, Ricky Steamboat and the main event were decent matches to watch, but none of them live up to a good standard. Overall, the spectacle and the historic importance of Wrestlemania is what makes this one interesting to check out while the matches themselves feel like they actively try to stop you from watching at times with how painfully boring they are. As a true fan of the sport, you should have checked out this show but there is no reason to go back to it once youve seen it."

[4.0] "While I certainly wouldn't call Wrestlemania 1 a bad show, I think it's hard to call it a good show, too. Of course, this show ends up being a lot better if you solely look at it in the glasses of living in 1985, where expectations were a bit lower. The show was certainly good enough to be the launching point for what would be the biggest wrestling event of all time. Something I really love about this show that I want to highlight is the commentary between Gorilla and Jesse. First, Jesse isn't acting as a full heel commentator. He certainly has a slight heel bias, but he's still being quite neutral. He gives the faces plenty of accolades. It's really refreshing to have a 'heel' commentator who isn't stretching to justify every single unfair thing the heels do. The second thing I love about the commentary is the fact that both of them are honest when pin attempts are made. By the time the 90's rolled around, and even more so in modern wrestling, the commentators try and hype nearly EVERY pin attempt up as if it'll end the match, when we know it won't. In fact, the only pin attempt where they often don't scream "He's got it! " for is the actual winning pin. It really telegraphs where the finish is. But there are plenty of times where Gorilla or Jesse will say "He's not gonna get him here, " which is how it should be to me. To me, there's nothing wrong with pointing out there wasn't enough of an effort made to keep someone down, or the move prior to the pin wasn't impactful enough to keep them down. It makes the workers in the ring seem like they're trying things in the heat of battle, and makes the commentators seem like educated outside observers. Other than that, though, Wrestlemania 1 was filled with standard or slightly below standard matches. I don't think anything on this card was a highlight, but there wasn't much that really stunk the joint up, either. Even the worst matches had a short length to not really bog the show down. A solid show for this era, and obviously extremely important to the history of wrestling, but not much more beyond solid at best."

The main event is a good watch that makes up for any technical shortcomings with its entertainment value. Of the two co-mains, Wendi Richter vs. Leilani Kai isn't a particularly great match, but makes great use of its celebrity involvement with Cyndi Lauper making a genuinely effective babyface manager; meanwhile, the Andre vs. Studd match is slow and plodding - Andre was well past his prime already by this point - but had a fun conclusion. Bruti vs. David Sammartino was a little too long for a match mainly focused on who was outside the ring. The best match on the card from a purely in-ring standpoint was Steamboat vs. Matt Borne, despite being a short borderline-squash match (you really can't go much wrong with the Dragon anywhere during the '80s or early '90s), and Tito vs. Executioner (Buddy Rose) in the opener was solid too. A historically significant show that certainly should be seen, but whose actual in-ring content pales in comparison to other early PPV/supercard-type shows of this timeframe, such as the NWA's Starrcade '83 or AWA's Superclash I (September '85)."

Seeing Steamboat fight in his early matches is incredible, he feels so different & unique from the others and I love it! The worst match from the card has to be Bundy vs. the enhancement talent. SD Jones botches the Avalanache, and sells the move for about 10 to 15 seconds until he gets down, Bundy then procedes to splash him to get the victory. I'm baffled at the fact that the announcer clearly states the match was 9 seconds long. That match was a disaster. The rest of the card was ok-ish, but nothing special.

Beefcake vs David Sammartino... Ricky Steamboat vs Matt Bourne... Quite a couple of weird short matches to chose from on this show with some real nobodies. That being said, the tag title match is surprisingly great with Sheik and Volkoff being more athletic in one match than I've seen them be ever in my life. Some of the marquee matches are a little shit like Big John Studd and Andre and the Women's title match. The Main event was decent enough to justify bringing in a celebrity like Mr. T. This show is more about the celebrities and the moments as opposed to the matches and on that front, it definitely delivers. The matches aren't fantastic, but it doesn't impede my enjoyment of the show. A definite recommend for those who have never seen it purely to see what shows during this time were like. You can probably skip all the other 80's manias though, but watch this one and mania 3 if you really feel like it."

I was at least expecting some classic promos but we didn't get that. Honestly most people wouldn't bother going back and watching this if this wasn't the first WrestleMania. The best match of the night was The World Tag Team Title match and event that went under seven minutes. The worst was the body slam challenge. There was far too much celebrity involvement in the main event for me, with the two referees, a special ring announcer, a special time keeper... just way overboard! One big positive is every match had some kind of story to tell and advanced something happening after this event."

I enjoyed the tag title match more than I should have, liked Freddie Blassie's promo after the match where he straight up denoes using the cane. It's the small things sometimes that matter sometimes. The main event was there, not a bad match considering who was in it. Quality wise however, you see better stuff on an average RAW show these days. The less said about uninspired brawls like the IC title match or Beefcake vs. Sammartino (if you want to have Bruno on the card, have him friggin' wrestle! ), the better. Andre vs. Studd - horrific, but the crowd ate it up. But the overall historical significance of this even cannot be overstated enough. So my final rating is not for the entertainment value, but mostly for what this event kicked off."

I'd probably give a two, because there's just nothing actually good here. The first two matches are a sub-five minute nothing to put over Tito, and a pure squash, and then we get several sluggish brawls and grappling snoozefests, and if you can tell me a single thing that happens in Bourne-Steamboat or Beefcake-Sammartino, I'll bake you a cake. The tag match is fine and inoffensive, the bodyslam challenge is barely a match and mostly a spectacle and angle - that is, admittedly, very successful, the women's match is just kind of there, and the main event is a weird tag match featuring Mr. T who is, clearly and obviously, not a professional wrestler, though he does try admirably. There's literally only one reason to actually watch this show, and that is that it is, simply, the first ever Wrestlemania, the show that started off a generation, and an empire. And it is Wrestlemania. It feels so much bigger and more important than any of the fluff matches would ever make you think, and if we're rating on hype or historical importance, this show is probably a nine - 3 and 17 would actually get 10s - and that's a lot. So ultimately, it's somewhere in the middle, a show that is much more than the sum of its parts, but isn't actually that entertaining when you stop and think about it, especially as a modern fan. Watch it, because you should, and it's important, just don't expect to take anything away from this show beyond the wholeness of it."

A Soviet character who joins an Iranian to face the American guys (and still beat them) makes the public extremely angry, allied to this, they manage to go well inside the ring, enough for a 7 note; Andre The Giant vs. Big John Studd is sleepy, but the final Slam is cool to see, note 5; By the standards of the time, the fight between Leilani Kai and wendi Richard for the ladys champion is not all bad, although both are far below, they can interpret their roles as heroine and villain, despite the terrible ending, note 7; The main event for me is a little slow, despite the ending becoming frantic with several invasions, strikes and sequences, Hogan and Pipper are doing very well, Pipper receives several bottles of the audience which makes the atmosphere interesting, although it is not a big deal in the ring, the fight is cool, note 7"

The Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik VS The U. S. Express was probably match of the night. It is either that or Ricky Steamboat VS Matt Borne. Honestly having hated heels beat loved babyfaces in the first WrestleMania was a gutsy move so I didn't expect them to win so I was pleasantly surprise, I can give it credit for that. Andre the Giant Vs Big John Studd match was slow and boring, even the gamble of Andre possible loosing his career didn't even help it. The women's title bout was just there. The main event is of course the match everyone came to see and to give them credit it was the most entertaining and I quite enjoyed it, even though I am not a Hulk Hogan guy. Maybe it helps that I like Roddy Piper. For the 1st WrestleMania it was just OK. If this were a later WrestleMania it would have been one of the worst but treating it as the first one, it was alright. Can't doubt that it was a huge gamble for Vince at the time and if weren't for this event we weren't been up to WrestleMania 36 by now. This probably wasn't the WrestleMania that makes it a spectacle like it is today now but it is where it all started. So it does gets a 6 for me for a show that is ok for it's first but added bonus for the historical significance."

The first three matches had less than 10 minutes of match time combined, and although two of them were solid matches, they were so short that they just felt like filler. We follow that up with a Double DQ and then a Countout, so two consecutive matches that didn't end definitively. Then comes the tag team title match that was not very good where they took the titles off two excellent wrestlers and put them on Sheik and Volkoff. The "Bodyslam Challenge" was okay for what it was, but obviously you can't expect a great match out of Andre and Studd. The Women's title match was pretty bad. The main event was very overbooked and filled with shenanigans, and if you think about it this main event is arguably the most predictable match in WrestleMania history. The first few matches (Tito Santana Vs Executioner (Buddy Rose), King Kong Bundy Vs SD Jones, Ricky Steamboat Vs Matt Bourne) were all basically squashes, none lasting over 4 and a half minutes, although the Steamboat match could have been very good given more time. David Sammartino Vs Brutus Beefcake was awful, saved only by Bruno's presence at ringside and brawl with Valentine at the finish. The Junkyard Dog/Greg Valentine match was awful with a shitty finish. Tag match was the most well wrestled on the show, but still only decent. Andre/Studd was slow, plodding and downright awful. Wendi Ritcher Vs Leilani Kai had a dreadful botched finish. And as awesome as Hogan and Mr T Vs Piper and Orndorf was, it was more of a spectacle than a wrestling match. But that's what made the first Wrestlemania a success. The spectacle. You're likely to forget about the bad wrestling when you've got a crazy, exciting spectacle of a main event, Bruno Sammartino accompanying his son in MSG, Cyndi Pauper and the whole body slam challenge aspect of the Andre and Studd storyline. Another reason it deserves a generous 6 is because of how important it was to the growing success of the WWF at the time."

The Wrestling on-ring is lower than 1985 standards (compare it to NWA matches), and there are three squash matches that puts Wrestlemania on par to lower tv shows. The Body Slam Challenge and the Women's division match are the lowest points. The main event makes for sane entertainment, but does not save it. Watch it only for historical reasons and try to not get bored if possible."

The main event was very good and brought tremendous heat, including Orndorff's turn to baby face. The other matches were not spectacular, but probably the most significant wrestling card, ever."

The opening matches are either short or inconsequential (sometimes both, painfully) and there are no matches I would rate higher than **, a HUGE problem on a show people are paying to watch. The main event, to it's credit, drew the house and sold the show but wrestling-wise was nobody's best work but Mr. T's. Overall just a very poor show that is only remembered because it started something much bigger and better than this individual show could dream to be."

Gesamt: 4, 625."
