[7.0] "Very consistent PPV brought down by one massive stinker. If it wasn't for the stinker, the sheer consistency of passable-to-good wrestling would give it an 8, but alas."

Women match was trash, terrible performance by alexa lesnar. House of horror was trash, waste of time a D- horror film. Rollins/joe was ok could have been better. Main event was good better than the fast lane match. That's it."

[7.0] "For the most part, a very solid event, with the first half especially shining (Jericho vs Owens, though not quite up to their Mania match and despite having a questionable outcome, was still good stuff, as was Aries vs Neville, Hardys vs Cesaro/Sheamus and Bliss vs Bayley). The main and Rollins vs Joe were decent enough as well. The glaring mark against it - and it was a big one - was the House of Horrors fiasco. I get what the WWE were going for - their own version of the Final Deletion - but it totally lacked the creativity, ambition and sense of fun that made the Broken Hardys stuff great, and even defied its own logic (why would a match starting in Bray's haunted house have to end in the ring, when in kayfabe it's not guaranteed they'll ever make it there? ) And even when it did make it to the ring, that part was completely lackluster. The rest of the show was genuinely good, and the House of Horrors might also be worth seeing since it will undoubtedly rank on on many "worst of the year" lists."

(***), Tag Team Championship Match was Freaking Awesome (***3/4), Bayley vs Alexa was decent (**3/4), Samoa Joe vs Seth Rollins (***), Bray Wyatt vs Orton = DUD, Main Event was Decent (**1/2). Decent PPV"

Bray Wyatt Vs Randy Orton DUD. Braun Strowman Vs Roman Reigns ****3/4. What a PPV. Great card top to bottom (except Bray/Orton, that was shit). Jericho Vs Owens had a very nice match with jericho surprisingly coming out on top. Aries Vs Neville was better than at WM but ending was kind of dead. Hardy Boyz Vs Sheasaro was really fun and the aftermath was awesome. Bliss Vs Bayley was very good. Rollins Vs Joe could have been better but was pretty nice. Braun Vs Reigns was fantastic, 2nd best match of the year easily. 10/10."

[7.0] "The main event between Brawn Strowman and Roman Reigns is great, almost everything is enjoyable, stories and matches work fine. There is only a big issue for me, the House of Horrors match, the first (pre-recorded part) is really terrible and unrealistic, it's a bad entertainment and a boring storytelling, I lost interest after one minute. Anyway, almost everything is good to see, also there is a couple of surprising title changes."

[8.0] "A better show than expected, but not exceptional. Owens/Jericho & Aries/Neville were good, but not on par with their Mania matches plus some mediocre finishes (***1/4 each). Hardyz vs Cesaro & Sheamus was a very solid tag match, even with a botch or so; really good finish and a heel turn that worked afterwards (***1/2). Bayley vs Bliss was WAY better than I expected, with a good story that lead into the finish, great character work, and a fucking crazy good elbow strike from Alexa in there (***3/4). Seth vs Joe was okay at best for a while, it didn't pick up until the end but then had a deflating finish (***). The House of Horrors was a really fun silly brawl inside the house that I got a lot of enjoyment out of; I was ready to throw a 4-star enjoyment level at it, but then the in-ring stuff was kinda bland and had a bad finish that made Bray look bad, so I have to cap off my enjoyment of the first part (***1/2). Reigns vs Strowman is the match that convinced me both of these men are great at what they do, and that they've both made leaps and bounds to improve. BRAUN was once just a generic monster, but here he plays this smart, lively character within that archetype and works over Roman's injuries the ENTIRE match; Roman comes in hurt, and when not told to just pop up and no-sell like in his matches with Rusev and others, he can fucking SELL. Reigns went right after BRAUN with his good limbs while his ribs and left arm were beyond fucked, and for 11 minutes they worked an absolutely stellar story match with that. Throw in the post-match with Roman coughing up blood and Strowman breaking car doors, and it's amazing how amazing this was at getting both guys (especially Strowman) over; LOVED this (****1/2). I didn't expect a lot from this show, but I got a bunch of good matches, with two (Bliss/Bayley & the main event) really surpassing beyond all expectations, even if some other matches had poor finishes."

[8.0] "Solid opener between Jericho and Owens. Aries and Neville put on another good match, poor finish though. I loved everything that built throughout the Hardyz vs Cesaro & Sheamus match, heel turn afterwards was great. Alexa vs Bayley was solid, Alexa's best match since her match with Becky in Glasgow. Rollins vs Joe took time to get going, had its boring moments. Wyatt vs Orton was the worst match of the night, just bizarre. Strowman vs Reigns was great I thought, Strowman is a star, Reigns love him or hate him I was impressed with his selling in this match."

[8.0] "The opener was great, the crowd was so into it and the celebration of the winner with a little fan was awesome. The Cruiserweight Title Match was good, I liked it a lot, Aries was on fire in this match and it made the finish so much better. The third match of a very good quality right here, I am intrigued about the result and certainly looking forward to seeing what happens with both of teams next. Women didn't break the streak of good matches, very strong showing with cool spots, Alexa and Bayley told a great story, at the end of which both seemed equal, and that's only good for the continuation of their rivalry. The House of Horrors segment was superb, I personally greatly enjoyed it. Joe vs. Rollins was a very good match of a different to earlier bouts slow-paced style, the crowd began to invest only throughout the match but that happens with a slow pace, the finish wasn't strong and that's not the first one on the show but it's the B-PPV, so to say, and that makes sense for it to progress more storylines than to end them. Well, I wish Bray would have been booked stronger but not everything is about me. The main event was a very good ending for a very good PPV. All matches for me was equally awesome and it was a pleasure to watch almost three hours of wrestling without drops in quality."

[6.0] "I'm very curious as to the circumstances behind Alexa's ascension. In her defense she has a legitimate weightlifting background, has quickly acclimated to the physical demands of being a pro wrestler, isn't bad in the ring, isn't shy to work a crowd, and has a variety of hot Queen Bitch expressions and a taut, plump butt that attract men to her. But if you're a company indebted to the ticket-paying customers that fill the arenas, and interested in them returning, what market strategy encourages beating a young woman like Bayley the first time she wrestles in front of her hometown peeps? It's absurd, and so I'm curious what corporate polling or individual is so behind Miss Bliss? ! Do they see her as a breakout star outside of the squared circle? She has now won both brand's singles titles in a period of less than five months. That is an incredible accomplishment and outside of Charlotte, she now has a brighter profile than any of the other ladies. Yet how will this translate to dollars? Does she sell a lot of merch? Is she really that good b/c I thought tonight Bailey out-worked her. I don't know, but despite her diminutive stature she has been blessed w/ a thick coat of protective booking in that she's 'crafty. ' The next boss, #2, was the 'Cerebral Assassin' and having that characteristic assigned to one only works in his/her favor. Another is 'the Viper, ' the snake in the grass who can hit his finisher out-of-nowhere, who was in early 90s WCW hell tonight inside the MO house. If WWE didn't stretch every segment past its sell-by date I would have found it bearable as I liked hearing them hit each other, but that and the illogic of Randy's return made it suck. (I liked the doll room tho. ) Undoubtedly the first hour was the best stuff on this show, but thanks to the attention and care Vince gives to his Main Eventers, the final match was satisfyingly booked and executed. I am certain, though, that many left the building less than satisfied. Poor Bailey 5. 5"

[7.0] "I came in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I'm actually shocked how grounded in wrestling the show was (which is weird to say since I'm talking about a wrestling pay per view). There were no stupid backstage segments or promos, it flowed from one match to the next which was great. I rated all the matches 3. 25 or higher, which the main event being a 4 for me. Easy watch, great fun."

[8.0] "Chris Jericho vs. Kevin Owens (***) Good match but too many headlocks... Wrestlemania match between those 2 was better Neville vs. Austin Aries (***) The ending sucked a lot but the match was decent even it wasn't nothing spectacular Jeff & Matt vs. Cesaro & Sheamus (*** 1/4) Better than I expected , Hardy Boyz still got it ! Probably they will become "broken" soon Alexa Bliss vs. Bayley (** 1/4) Alexa Bliss gets a push again... why? It was a good work but kind of boring.. Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe (** 1/4) This could've been easily a RAW match... probably the feud will continue Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton (*** 1/2) The first part was damn funny :)) Since Triple H went to Randy's house.. I liked the fact that we saw a match like this again even it wasn't something bright in the ring. Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns (***) - Finally Strowman got a victory, he is one of the most important guys in the Raw roster like now , , hope he will win this feud if they'll had a match at ER. It was a decent match."

[8.0] "Aside from House of Horrors, which everyone knew would suck, there wasn't a single match on the card that wasn't good, most shows in general, even NJPW shows, contain more than one underwhelming match, but Payback found a way to be full of mostly rematches, which kind of fits the name, but contain almost exclusively good to great matches."

[10.0] "On pure enjoyment alone I thought this was one of the best PPVs of the year. All of the opening matches delivered for me were at (***1/2)+ as well. The house of horrors was just a lot fun to watch similar to watching The Final Deletion a year ago. Joe vs Rollins was pretty solid as well and loved Joe's destruction of Rollins' knee (***1/2). The main event between Reigns and Strowman was so much fun to watch and probably Strowman's best match to date as well and Reigns sold the beating so freaking well too (****1/2). Overall one of the best shows in recent memory for the E and definitely a show of the year contender type PPV in my opinion."

[10.0] "WWE Show of the Year contender. An absolutely phenomenal PPV. Jericho/Owens wasn't as good as their WM match, but still pretty good (**3/4), Neville/Aries however was on par with their WM match, a really good one (***1/2), The Hardys vs. Cesaro & Sheamus was good, the post-match angle was awesome (***), Bayley/Bliss was GREAT, a tremendous match (****), Joe/Rollins was good - could've been better had Rollins' selling not been so spotty though (***1/4), Wyatt/Orton gets no rating, but I thought it was wacky & really fun - the whole pre-taped bit at the Wyatt's house was ridiculous, Braun & Reigns delivered what will most likely end up as my WWE MOTY, just an absolutely tremendous, all-time great match (*****). Top to bottom Payback 2017 was a fantastic show. No bad matches & an all-time great main event to close it off."
Rocky7 wrote on 01.05.2017:
[7.0] "When one match drags down an entire show. Everything else on Payback was good to great, but the House of Horrors was goddamn WrestleCrap worthy. When Jinder Mahal's involvement isn't the worst thing about it, you know you've got an all-time stinker. Orton vs. Wyatt is surely nailed on for the worst feud of 2017."
Hunter Dunn wrote on 01.05.2017:
[7.0] "Solid show. Jericho vs Owens was a fun opener, crowd was into it ***1/2. Aries vs Neville was great but the ending tainted it a bit. The ending definitely works to continue the story but without a definitive ending it's hard to go to 4* so ***3/4. Hardy's vs Shesaro was really fun ***3/4. Bliss vs Bayley was good ***1/2. Joe vs Rollins was great storytelling ***3/4. Wyatt/Orton was just awful. I was so hyped for this feud before Mania but they booked it like shit. Wyatt looked so weak in victory DUD. Reigns vs Strowman wasn't as good as their Fastlane match. Told a decent story but I just didn't think it worked as well **1/2. Overall a solid show with no standout matches but the quality dips in the last hour."
