[2.0] "A thoroughly miserable experience. Russo manages to kill what was a hot crowd in record time. They even manage to ruin what could have been a great main event with awful interference. This is just frustration after frustration. Look at the talent on this show, it really would not have been hard to put on something very watchable but nope."
[0.0] "YEAHHHH....WCW Mayhem 1999 ends up being a god damn AWFUL show right here from WCW at the time. This show was worse than Bash at the Beach 1999 which is saying something cause it was god damn awful so Mayhem 1999 just ends up being absolutely horrendus other than the main event every single other match never hits the mark and ends up just being awful over awful over AWFUL! The crowd turned against babyfaces and cheered heels which is a classic Canada crowd move. Things aren't looking good for WCW, not at all! Horrible show! Don't watch. [DUD]"
[4.0] "This show was sucking the big meat missile up until the finish. Vince Russo's moronic booking destroyed so many matches on the card, and before Hitman/Benoit went out there and tore the place up, I was planning on giving this abortion a 2 star rating. Through the natural talents of Hart and Benoit, this one gets bumped up to 4 stars."
[2.0] "There's a whole lot of awful on this card, but the mockery of Jim Ross's disablity was probably the bit that stands out most. Shockingly for a WCW card the main event was the best match on the card, but even that was full of Russo's crap. It's worth checking out that match just for it being the only time the two men met at a PPV, and one of only a handful of matches they ever had, but overall the show was awful."
[2.0] "This was an enormous card, and not all matches featured Jeff Jarrett & Creative Control. [1st match] Great & explosive match, unfortunately this was the first of many matches hampered by interference. ***3/4 [2nd match] Not the best cruiserweight match ever, but not bad for this point in time. *** [3rd match] These weapon shots swung from safe to very unsafe. Match itself probably needed to be a bigger deal, since it was for a brand new title. * [4th match] Needed more time, despite having the 2 Women in the match. It did have a fair amount of drama though. **1/2 [5th match] Basic match considering the stip. ** [6th match] Not their best effort, and yet another match ruined by interference & controversy. ** [7th match] This was just all kinds of horrible. Yet another match where the ref just let anything go. First half of the action is ignored by the commentators so Oklahoma can do his very worst JR throughout the match. And most of the time the collars weren't even around both Wrestlers... or those Wrestlers actually meant to be in the match even! -**1/2 [8th match] This was actually amusing, but the payoff before the finish could have happened way sooner. ** [9th match] Another average match where Jarrett & CC got involved. **1/2 [10th match] We basically already saw this with Torrie & Saturn earlier. Kim at least played her part well, David no-sold pretty much everything and sucked at playing a psycho or whatever he's supposed to be here. The run-ins at least made sense, but yet again another overly-long stretcherjob. DUD [11th match] I actually thought that this was really good, but this was another controversial finish. *** [Main] Unspectacular but solid, until it became very overbooked. So much so that they actually split-screened the carnage, like who even cares! focus on your Main Event ffs! ***1/4 disappointing card, feel sorry for the fans in attendance who were absolutely amazing all through this show, and yet got treated to all of this."
[4.0] "Die Show fing stark an und hatte generell irgendwie auch einen besseren "Vibe" als die anderen damaligen WCW-Shows aber nach ein paar Matches war man genau genau dort wieder angekommen. Richtig sehenswert sind eigentlich nur die beiden Matches mit Chris Benoit am Anfang und Ende der Show."
[0.0] "WCW Mayhem 1999 was your typical Vince Russo PPV. It was overbooked, it had terrible matches, angles that served to detract from the matches, etc. The crown jewel of this abysmal show was taking a Bret Hart vs. Chris Benoit match, in Canada, and managing to completely take the fans out of the match with needless bullshit."
[7.0] "Eigentlich kann man diesem PPV gar keine gute Note geben, da einfach zu viel schief läuft, was mich normalerweise stört: Zu viele Matches, zu viel Overbooking, zu viele stereotype Klischees, zu viel Gimmick-Matches, zu viel Selbstdarstellung von Russo und Ferrara usw. Aber seltsamerweise funktioniert das bei mir in diesem Fall. Vielleicht liegt es daran, dass es so ganz anders als die langsame und mutlose Erzählstruktut der gegenwärtigen WWE ist - keine Ahnung. Letztendlich aber 7 Punkte, weil ich mich unterhalten fühlte und das zählt ja."
[0.0] "It's tough to have a show with this roster and have no, count it NO, yes in fact ZERO matches I would actually call good. Call it a Russo special. Benoit/Jarrett could have been good but Russo can't resist injecting the Harris brots. Evan/Disco is bad with a very stupid storyline surrounding "Tony Marinara", an offensive Italian stereotype. Smiley/Knobbs is a poor garbage brawl. The elimination match is all a build up to Torrie Wilson being manhandled, so if that's your thing go for it. Hennig/Bagwell is another bad one with a terrible ending. Bret/Sting is not good either, they have no chemistry and there's MORE interference with Lex Luger running out. Vampiro/Berlyn is unwatchable due to Ed Ferrara doing the insanely unfunny Oklahoma impression on commentary. Meng/Luger is actually ok but nothing special. Booker/Hall might have been ok but, AGAIN, Harris bros. Kim/David is one of the worst things I have ever had the misfortune to see in my life. Goldberg/Sid is another poor one, far, far away from the surprisingly impressive bloodbath the month before. The main event is the only enjoyable match on the show but even that is not particularly good, as once AGAIN it's filled with run ins, as Malenko, Nash, Hall, and Goldberg all get involved. Poor, poor, poor, poor, awful showing for Russo in his first PPV he had full control over."
[3.0] "1. Opener war ein guter Einstieg in den PPV. Leider ließ die Qualität von diesem gewaltig nach. JJ hob die Qualität der Matches auch. Leider übersättigte man mit diesem Kerl die Crowd doch ein wenig. (3*) 2. Das CW Match war eine solide Geschichte. Leider erreichten diese nicht mehr die Klasse die noch bis vor kurzem vorhanden war. (2 3/4*) 3. Smiley gegen Knobs war schlecht. Die WCW hätte die Hardcore Division sein lassen sollen und sich auf andere Dinge konzentrieren sollen. (1/2*) 4. Six Person TT Match war in Ordnung. Hier war aber sicher mehr drin bei den Beteiligten. (2*) 5. Bagwell gegen Hennig war für die Katz. Das Ergebnis war eh nicht langer Dauer und Hennig wrestlete urz darauf wieder. (2*) 6. Bret & Sting konnten erneut nicht einen Klassiker auf die Beine stellen. Schade. Dazu noch der Interefference von Luger. (2 1/4*) 7. Im Anschluss wird Berlyn weiter begraben. Schade. Fand beide Gimmicks hätten das Zeug zu was gehabt in der WCW. (2*) 8. Meng gegen Luger war Mist. (1/2*) 9. Von Hall & Booker hätte ich mir auch mehr erhofft. Wäre auch so eine PPV-ME Konstellation sein können. Leider bookte man in der WCW alles tot. (1 1/4*) 9. Flair gegen Kimberly war Dreck. Keine Ahnung wer auf die Idee kam Flair noch On-Air Time zu geben. Der Typ hatte rein gar nichts. (0*) 11. Goldberg schlägt Sid. 12. ME siehe Guide. (3 1/2*) Leider wieder ein schwacher PPV. Die Card war zu voll. Man hätte ruhig 5-6 Matches streichen können. Da wären genug davon vorhanden gewesen die man bei den Weeklys bringen hätte können. Die Crowd war gut. Und der HitMan holt sich seinen lang verdienten WH Title. Leider viel zu spät."
[3.0] "There were a couple of well-worked matches here, notably those including Bret Hart and/or Chris Benoit. But with nearly every match having some form of outside interference and some very questionable booking decisions and lame storylines, it's hard to recommend this one. The Vampiro/Berlyn match may well be one of the worst-booked matches I've ever seen."
[4.0] "Der Opener ist recht stark und flott. Mit neuneinhalb Minuten ist die Länge wohl auch goldrichtig bei so vielen Matches (***). Das CW Title Match kann nicht überzeugen. Karagias ist ein unsauberer Wrestler und war später bei 3 Count besser aufgehoben. Im Mittelpunkt stehen eh Madusas Hupen und Marinara am Pult. Whatever (*1/2). Knobbs/Smiley ist phasenweise ganz lustig, hat aber natürlich keinerlei wrestlerische Qualität. Knobbs ist halt weder Terry Funk noch Ralphus, die die Müll Hardcore Matches mit Smiley in 2000 so unterhaltsam gemacht haben (*1/4). Das Match zwischen Revolution und den Animals war in Ordnung, für vier so gute Worker (Eddie, Kidman, Saturn, Malenko) aber eigentlich auch zu dürftig - das zog sich durch die ganze Fehde. Torrie wird nach nem Low Blow gepinnt. Seltsam aber schon irgendwie OK, da Saturn voll durchzog und Wilson bis dahin keine Wrestlerin war (**1/2). Bagwell/Hennig bis dato die Negativüberraschung des Abends. Oberlangweiliges Resthold-Match, Beide können mehr (*). Sting und der Hitman haben schon wie beim Havoc 1998 kaum Chemie. Bei zwei so Top-Wrestlern echt eine Schande. Durchschnitt (**1/4). Das Chain Match ist chaotisch geführter Käse ohne Impact. Oklahoma am Pult war noch das Beste (3/4*). Meng/Luger war ganz furchtbar (DUD). Scott Hall wirkt übelst voll und auch dieses Match ist nichts. Das Publikum war eh mit einem Brawl in der Crowd beschäftigt (3/4*). Kimbery/David Flair hatte mit den ganzen Run Ins, der Weirdo-Erotik und dem guten Schauspiel Flairs doch irgendwie Unterhaltungswert. In einer Weekly hätte ich das wohl gerne gesehen (*) Bei Goldberg und Sid ist die Cowd wieder da. Ordentlicher kurzer Brawl. Das Finish? ! Komisch... aber in dieser Fehde normal (*3/4). Der Mainer ist wenig überraschend das MotN - aber nur knapp (***1/4). Zwei gute Matches flankieren einige Sachen, die man gucken kann (Sting/Hart, Revolution/Animals, Goldberg/Sid und irgendwie auch Flair/Kimmy) und jede Menge Grütze. Knapp ausreichend."
[2.0] "Opener war ein ordentlicher Fight mit deutlich overbooktem Finish (**1/2), CW Title hatte wenig mit CW Wrestling zu tun und war ein reines Botchfest( 3/4*), Hardcore Title war ein wirklich schlimmes Match (DUD), Elimination Tag nicht so schlecht wenn die richtigen Leute im Ring waren (**1/4), Bagwell vs Henning war ein furchtbar zähes Match indem einfach nichts passierte (1/2*), Hart vs Sting eigentlich ein Traummatch, aber hier sehr langweilig gestaltet (*), Chain Match das zweite wirklich schlimme Match (DUD), Luger vs Meng war ein schreckliches Match (1/4*), Hall vs Bokker war eigentlich recht solide, aber zu kurz und mal wieder kein sauberes Finish (*1/2), Kimberly vs Flair war eher ein Angle , aber dafür ein langweiliger ohne Zuschauerreaktionen (DUD), I Quit war tatsächlich nicht so schlimm wie erwartet, aber hatte dafür ein schwer unspektakuläres Finish (3/4*), Main Event siehe Matchguide (***1/4). Die zwei Benoit Matche retten den Event.. obwohl eigentlich kann dieses Event nicht mehr retten. Was zwischen dem Opener und dem Main Event passiert grenzt fasst schon an Augenkrebs. Bescheuerte Finishes, Blöde Gimmicks und eine hauptsächlich schlechte Crowd. Ein ziemlicher Reinfall!"
[5.0] "Ordentlicher Beginn Russos bei WCW, aber bei weitem kein guter PPV. Die beiden Benoit Matches sind ganz gut, dazwischen war einfach zu viel Leerlauf."
[6.0] "ARGH! Ich hatten diesen PPV auf Video aufgenommen, und habe ihn leider mit der Zeit verloren... Ich ärgere mich heut noch darüber. Naja, zum PPV kann ich nicht mehr so viel sagen. Aufjedenfall gefielen mir Benoit vs Jarrett, Berlyn vs Vampiro und der Main Event ganz gut. An den Rest kann ich mich kaum bis gar nicht errinnern."
