[8.0] "WCW in the first half of 1999 was a lot better than some fans may remember. This ppv was the apex of that. There's only two matches that aren't good but even those are serviceable."

[9.0] "1999 onwards was when WCW would fully embrace the idea of being the worst of the worst, but here we have a diamond in the rough. A consistently fun and entertaining card with a variety of matches styles and a crowd who were fully into it all. Incredible opener, check. Wild ECW style match, check. Junior Heavyweights battling for the belt, check. Hard hitting tag team action, check. A hoss fight, double check. An unpredictable and chaotic main event, check. Yes there is a toilet break match in Riggs v Whipwreck but everything else entertained and made it feel like a fully coherent show worthy of parting money/time with. Strong recommendation to watch."

[5.0] "Nothing surprising for a WCW PPV of that era: an underwhelming undercard, lots of filler, and a pointless hardcore match stuck in the middle. There were some highlights, with Horsemen vs Raven & Saturn standing out and Juventud vs Blitzkrieg not far behind, but matches like Riggs vs Whipwreck or Konnan vs Disco dragged the show down. Mysterio vs Kidman and Goldberg vs Nash were also disappointingly flat, especially given what all four were capable of. On the brighter side, Steiner vs Booker was very solid, and the main event picked up a lot once it became a three-way - though Savage's interference left a bad taste. Overall, a typical hit-or-miss WCW PPV, exactly what the company conditioned fans to expect in 1998/99."

[9.0] "Dubbed as 'WCW's last great PPV', Spring Stampede '99 has to live up to a lot of hype. To put it simply, the second half of the PPV is absolutely stellar. One excellent match after the other, with every wrestler putting on an A+ performance. That is not to say that the first half was bad. Far from it as the matches ranged from average to good. But the last five matches consist of of the greatest PPV runs of the era. Production saw some issues as, for a portion of the show, the music and announcer were barely audible, while the commentary had flashes of brilliance, but could have been more organized. Overall, a fantastic PPV. MOTN goes to the Main Event."

[6.0] "WCW's Spring Stampede 1999 ends up being an overall decent effort from WCW and manages to MOSTLY have a consistent card. Juventud vs. Blitz was good from beginning to end and had that classic cruiserweight opening to excite the crowd. Bigelow vs. Hak overdelivered and brought a fun hardcore element to the PPV. Riggs and Mikey as well as Konnan vs. Inferno could be skipped and forgotten about. Kidman vs. Mysterio was decent but underwhelming. Malenko & Benoit vs. Raven & Saturn was also pretty good. Booker T vs. Scott Steiner was a bit boring and nothing special with a weak ending to put the nail in the coffin. Goldberg vs. Kevin Nash wasn't a slog but way too overbooked. The main event was fun and finally gave DDP his moment. Overall, this show was decent but not anything to really grip onto. [***]"

"WCW Spring Stampede 1999 was a pay-per-view event that took place on April 11, 1999, in Tacoma, Washington. Here's a short review of the event: Spring Stampede 1999 featured an action-packed card with several high-profile matches. The event opened with a solid encounter between Juventud Guerrera and Blitzkrieg showcasing their incredible athleticism and aerial maneuvers. The tag team match between Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko against Raven and Perry Saturn was a highlight of the night. All four competitors' intense action and technical skill made it a standout match. Another notable bout was the match between Booker T and Scott Steiner competed in a hard-hitting encounter that showcased their strength and agility. Scott Steiner emerged victorious, capturing the championship in an exciting fashion. The main event of the evening was a four-way match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Diamond Dallas Page, Ric Flair, Hollywood Hogan, and Sting battled it out for the prestigious title. The match had its moments, with various rivalries and alliances intertwining, leading to a dramatic conclusion. In the end, Diamond Dallas Page emerged as the winner, capturing his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship. While Spring Stampede 1999 had some memorable matches, the event also had its shortcomings. The pacing felt inconsistent at times, and some undercard matches didn't receive as much attention or build-up as they deserved. Overall, Spring Stampede 1999 provided a mix of exciting action and compelling storylines. It had its standout moments, particularly in the tag team and main event matches, but it also had room for improvement in terms of match placement and overall flow."

[7.0] "This was a SHOCKINGLY good PPV for the Attitude Era and this even outperformed WrestleMania 15! This was one of those abnormalities from a company making all the wrong decisions and was a case of a broken clock being right twice a day. Unfortunately, pretty much all the PPV's to follow were steaming dung! The last great WCW PPV in history IMHO."

[6.0] "For this point in time for WCW... this was a very solid show, one of my favourites actually. Brilliant performance in the opener by a relatively unknown Blitzkrieg, for once a pretty decent Hardcore match, and a half-decent Main Event, even if it did have Hogan's theatrics taking the focus away from the match."

It certainly had plenty of flaws, but it also had some genuinely good matches and even the stuff that didn't work was at least trying to do something. But it was too late for the company, PPV sales, TV views and match quality would fall off a cliff from here out."

[7.0] "While WCW's best days were quickly slipping away by this point, Spring Stampede '99 was a pretty good show overall. Juvi vs Blitzkrieg, Benoit/Malenko vs Raven/Saturn and Booker/Steiner were good, Bam Bam vs Hak was a fun hardcore brawl, and the main event was fun enough - it was good to see DDP, who was at the time my favorite good guy in WCW, finally win the big one, and how often do you see guys like Hogan and Flair in a four-way? Perhaps not a WCW classic, but a solid watch."

[6.0] "Honestly not as good as I was hoping, though it’s definitely better than some stuff from the era. Juvi/Blitz is an excellent opener, and we get a total stylistic switch to another pretty good match in Bigelow/Sandman. Whipwreck/Riggs is ok, albeit rather random. Konnan/Disco isn’t that good but it could have been worse, considering who was involved. Mysterio/Kidman was the match of the night, not sure why it’s not on the match guide, it’s a great cruiserweight bout in spite of a strangely subdued crowd. The show continues strong with a pretty great tag match, and Booker/Steiner delivers too with some really good stuff. So far so good, right? Unfortunately it all gets dragged down in the double main event. Goldberg/Nash is ostensibly a way for Goldberg to get his win and heat back after being cooled off badly after Starrcade and the Fingerpoke, but Nash dominates most of the match and makes Goldberg look like a joke. The crowd gets bored and chants for Sting. Terrible match. The main event had some potential but really fails to deliver on it. Hogan is taken out early with a leg injury, and Sting and Flair spend a lot of time rehashing spots that are more than 10 years old and stale as heck. Savage suddenly starts attacking Flair for completely unclear reasons, and DDP’s title win is basically an afterthought. A lot of stupid nonsense at the end stops this from being better than it is."
