| 4 | 22.06.2017 | marexcel | 8.0 | Nach einer relativ langen Durstphase der Durchschnittlichkeit meldet sich EVOLVE mit einem gelungen Event zurück. Keine schwachen Matches und die dezent vorhandenen Geschichten werden interessant weitergeführt. Der Opener ist schwungvoll und profitiert von der ordentlichen Chemie von ACH und Kincaid, aber das große Spektakel bleibt aus. Ebenso im Four Way-Match, wo mir das Finish und Yehi am besten gefallen. Die Multiple Powerbomb von Dickinson war aber fast zum fremdschämen. Insgesamt fehlt der rote Faden, Action war ok. Cobb/Jaka gönnen sich eine recht ordentliche Schlacht. Cobbs Charisma ohne Maske ist für mich weiterhin ein Problem, aber im Match wirkt er ansonsten gut. Keith Lee ist wohl im Moment der Newcomer bei EVOLVE. Starkes Ding und zusammen mit Hot Sauce schön in Szene gesetzt. Da freut man sich auf weitere Matches unter dem EVOLVE-Banner. Page braucht anschließend relativ lange für einen Allin, dessen Hände mit Handschellen hinter dem Rücken fixiert waren. Das hat dem dominanten Page in meinen Augen eher geschadet, aber als Aufbau für Allin ok. Die Promo anschließend für Page fast besser als das Match. Riddle/Galloway lässt mich etwas enttäuscht zurück, auch wenn ich das Finish wirklich gut fand. Die gesamte Catch Point-Story nervt mich zwar eher schon, aber findet hier einen interessanten Ansatz. Der Main Event überstrahlt dann aber die gesamte Show. ZSJ hat in den letzten Monaten an seinem Storytelling und Selling gearbeitet und kann Thatcher auf ein gutes bis phasenweise sehr gutes Niveau heben. Schönes Match. (****) Schöner Abschluss. Die typische EVOLVE-Story nach dem Match ist ok und folgerichtig, wenn auch eher 08/15. |

There was a little lull in the middle but that was fine because it cooled things down before they blew it up for the finish . K. Lee is physically impressive and incredibly athletic but you can see his limitations in working a normal style . Kincaid impresses again . He lacks size but has a weir charisma and has carried regional territories . Great semi and main . Unlike PWG in which the opener can be the show-stealer (Gargano/Ciampa PWG Myst Vortex III, ) no match/segment was designed to out-shine the one that came after. As every match (mostly) lived up to what was expected, it felt right that the building exploded upon the show's designated climax, TT's tapout. Pre-show, I appreciated the J Jacobs, circa '06-7, D Allin video package. Also the profile on ACH was a welcome throwback to a more stand-up, square but earnest, seemingly dependable product of pro wrestling. The opener was easily the weakest thing on this show; JK isn't impressing me. Yehi's urgent presence reminds me of Otani in the late 90s, and as we see at the end of the show, unafraid to brandish his morality. Good booking here working towards a C Point showdown for the tag belts. The 3rd and 4th contests were both profile encounters for the big men, w/ TW as the more live underdog, but were both really enjoyable. Cobb's sky-high superplex was a sight. The usually calmer TW portrayed himself in a B Busick role. I dig Page's new music; it's most appropriate for an Argento giallo. It's too bad the horror 'All Ego' probably likes is Adam Wingard's "You're Next. " Me, I'm more of an "It Follows" kinda guy. Darby's perfect for this Spike Dudley role; I wish his face sold his 'wrapping' w/ more conviction. He also kicked out at 2 (after the 2nd rope powerslam) when the timing called for it to be 2 3/4ers, but he's green/always losing so it's ok. I expected a more interesting story out of Bro/Galloway; I knew it would be physical, Drew's matches always are, and the emotion was there. Perhaps Drew's beating-down of Riddle wasn't vicious/dramatic enough. TT's ascent came in his homestate at '15 WMania; he was assisted by the Meltzer buzz. Prior to his facials here, I felt his ambivalence spoke also to how little he laid on the line in most of his matches. Lots of good challengers for |

Leider war auch das recht kurz (***). Jaka vs. Cobb war okay (**¼). Williams vs. Lee war in Ordnung (**¾). Allin vs. Page war eher schwach (*½). Von Galloway vs. Riddle habe ich mir mehr erwartet, war aber solide (***). ZSJ vs. Thatcher war echt stark. Zwar hatte es die für die beiden typischen Längen in der Midphase, aber sie überzeugten durch eine gute Story und eine hervorragende Schlussphase mit gutem Feel-Good-Moment am Ende (***¾). Insgesamt sind das dann 5, 50 von 10 Punkten - 'okay'. |

| 10 | 06.03.2017 | sign squad | 5.0 | Das beste an der Show war der Pop für den Sieg von Zack im Main Event, davon abgesehen war der Rest der Zeit von der Crowd einfach nur ein Grundrauschen zu hören. Die ersten vier Matches fand ich alle komplett austauschbar. Gefüllt mit den immer gleichen Aktionen, dem immer gleichen Aufbau und sich alle sehr ähnlich sehenden (außer Kincaid) Leuten. Dann braucht Ethan Page geschlagene acht Minuten, um einen an den Händen auf dem Rücken gebundenen Gegner zu besiegen. Was für eine Lusche - anders sieht mein Fazit da leider nicht aus. Galloway vs. Riddle wirkte wie gewollt aber nicht gekonnt auf mich. Hauptsache ganz schnell Moves und Pseudo-Klopperei aber blos nix verkaufen oder Zeit nehmen, um irgendwie was bedeutungsvoll erscheinen zu lassen. Statt dann Drew der auf den Schultern liegt anzuzählen wie ein guter Ref, labert er Drew stattdessen dich und beschließt dann, die Ringglocke zu läuten. OK, somit hat Drew verloren, ohne wirklich verloren zu haben. Denn bewahre die Indies würden irgendwas besser machen als WWE. Das wird dann mit dem anschließenden Beat Down von Drew an Riddle noch mal unterstrichen. Main Event mit Mattenschrubben und Gelenke verdrehen und ganz vielen Strikes - halt wie jedes Zack Jr Match. Fand den Stil der Show mehr als ermüdend. |

ACH/Kincaid was an OK opener - ended up being the worst match of the night, but it wasn't bad (**), Henry/Theory/Dickinson/Yehi was a fun, action packed match w/ Yehi being the MVP unsurprisingly (***1/4), Jaka/Cobb was a good bombfest (***), Lee/Williams was fantastic - Williams brought the fight & the fire right to Keith Lee, and Lee was fantastic as the dominant big man (****), Allin/Page was great, Allin was absolutely fantastic in it (****), Galloway/Riddle was really good, another strong performance by Riddle (***1/2) & then the main event. My goodness - what. a. match... My thoughts after the first viewing of it were that it's the MOTY - it just seemed like everything that happened went perfectly - hats off to Thatcher & ZSJ for putting on such a fantastic piece of pro graps (*****). |
| 19 | 27.02.2017 | Glover | 10.0 | ACH vs Kincaid was a very nice opener with some great interaction between both fliers that also had some heat due to ACH's potential title shot (***1/2). The 4-Way was very exciting with all 4 guys going full-force and a story between Dickinson and Yehi being told as Catch Point will soon clash for the Tag Titles; calling back to Yehi vs Henry from Style Battle was nice too (***3/4). Cobb vs Jaka was the HOSS FIGHT I wanted and needed out of Cobb this weekend; these two threw each other around like crazy and Cobb's strength was freakish, loved this (****). Keith Lee vs Hot Sauce was one hell of a match; unlike ZSJ, Tracy brought the fight to Keith, and they went IN on each other in this one and had some incredible reversals like the top-rope Angle Slam; I loved this one too (****1/4). Page vs Allin is a feud where I'm finally "getting" Page as a heel; Darby wrestling basically the entire match in handcuffs after taking a couple nasty bumps was just incredible, and the post-match with the body bag was just perfect (***3/4). Riddle vs Galloway was a tad disappointing compared to the rest of the show; these two still went hard and heavy at each other, but there wasn't much to suggest these two hated each other outside of a couple spots, however I will say I loved the finish (***1/2). The main event was absolutely fantastic. Thatcher, having slowly been bombarded more and more with boos and hatred from fans, finally embraced the hatred in this match and outright spited fans and bullied Sabre; this cockiness leading to him slipping up and dropping the title was a PERFECT way to end a long reign like this. Tim was on fire bell-to-bell, his work on top backed up by his character work and his technical ability being on-point. Zack was motivated himself here, actually selling and working over Thatcher well. A HUGE pop for the finish in a magnificent title change, and I say that as someone that is usually a ZSJ detractor. Awesome show. |

However, I hope it's a short reign with the belt going to ACH, Ethan Page, Drew Galloway or Matt Riddle in the next few weeks. The rest of the show was heaps of fun, really felt like EVOLVE's undercard and newer signings are beginning to fill the absences of Gargano, Hero, End, Swann, Scurll, Ciampa, Alexander, Nese, Gulak, TJP and others. |

(***1/2) Das 4 Way Freestyle war auch sehr ansehnlich, da wirklich alle Teilnehmer gut aussahen und das Finish großartig war. (***3/4) Jaka vs Cobb war ebenfalls ein sehr guter Hoss Fight, bei dem vor allem Jeff Cobb seine Kraft unter Beweis stellen konnte. (***1/2) Lee vs Hot Sauce war großartig. Man muss auch einfach mal anerkennen, dass Keith Lee die so ziemlich beste Sit-out Powerbomb im Business besitzt. Auch Tracy Williams hat mal wieder sein großes Talent bewiesen. (****) All Ego vs Darby war ebenfalls ein tolles Match, was auf der Story basierte, mit Darby Allin als krassen Underdog, der sogar gefesselt noch von irgendwelchen Erhebungen springen kann. Der Moment seines Comebacks war einfach wunderschön anzusehen und die Crowd war außer sich. Großes Storytelling, auch noch nach dem Match, als Page und die Gatekeeper Darby in einem Leichensack wegtrugen. Ich hoffe sehr, dass die Story in Orlando mit einem Gimmick Match und Payoff für Darby gipfelt. (***3/4) Riddle vs Galloway war für mich die einzige Enttäuschung des Abends, aber dennoch sehr gut mit einem stark durchdachten Finish, da Galloway jetzt immer noch sein Rematch fordern kann. (***1/2) Der Main Event war dann einfach nur fantastisch. Die Crowd stand völlig hinter ZSJ und wollte ihn auf jeden Fall gewinnen sehen. Die Matchstory war sehr intensiv und der Moment, als ZSJ die Submission endlich voll durchstrecken und so Tatcher zur Aufgabe bringen konnte, war phänomenal. Ich habe mich sehr für Zack gefreut und war nach Ende der Show überglücklich wegen des Titelwechsels. (****1/4) Insgesamt ist die Show für mich ein klarer Show of the Year Contender. Wirklich alle Matches sind empfehlenswert und die Crowd war einfach super. Auch wenn man sich nur Thatcher vs ZSJ angucken will, kann ich nur empfehlen sich die ganze Show am Stück anzusehen. |

The four way elevated Anthony Henry and Austin Theory, while also teasing something in the future between Chris Dickinson and Fred Yehi. Jeff Cobb and Keith Lee got to look like the beasts that they are. Darby Allin shone in a loss to Ethan Page. Matt Riddle and Drew Galloway had a great hate-filled bout. And the main event booking and execution was just wonderful, as Zack Sabre Jr. won the EVOLVE Title. The post match developments were great too. Make sure you see this show! |
