Dream vs Aleister is a great psychological breakdown of both, with a simple story and not very hard to get into to, so its aged pretty gracefully I'd say. Womens match is average, with quite a few issues imo. Andrade winning is awesome asf, and Wargames is a blast, if a little long."

"Black and Dream steal the show with a phenomenal storyline and a quality match to boot. Dream ruined his career, it's a real shame since he could have been a star. The first NXT WarGames being a triple threat is something I forget but it was pretty cool. Andrade gets the NXT title in a great bout and the fatal 4 way was a lot of fun, I was really behind SAnitY at the time and I remember really hoping for a Nikki win."

[7.0] "I rate by averaging out my overall match ratings to give an overall rating (few points may be added for anything extra special! ) Lars Sullivan match – 6. 5/10 – This was an OK match. With a bit of work Lars should be a great monster heel but Kassius is a no-hope… he is completely out of shape. Aleister Black match – 8. 5/10 – This was a brilliant hard-hitting match with a good blend of striking and technical wrestling. Ember Moon match – 3/10 – Glad to see Ember Moon win. Andrade Almas match – 8/10 – This was a very good match, with Almas doing very well. Short title reign for McIntyre but it was right seen as he is injured Undisputed Era match – 9. 5/10 – MOTN – Everything was brilliant and good to see WWE finally use weapons again!"

Asuka awarding the title for moon was underwhelming. Nxt title match was another great match. Great back and forth action from both. ME was great, too. Tons of OMG moments. Removing opener and women match, you easily get 10. But thanks to those 2, only 8. Still superior to Survivor series."

[9.0] "The opener was a total squash match, it sucks that WWE is using Ohno as a jobber. (*3/4) Black vs. Dream was way better than I expected, star making performance from Dream here. (****) The women's match was disappointing to say the least, I think Sane should have gone over. (**1/2) The NXT title match was the best one we had in a while and we got a new champ in Andrade Cien Almas! (****1/4) The main event was one of the best WWE matches for the year and one of the best brawls they have done in years. (****1/2) As usual NXT pretty much blows away whatever WWE does on the main roster."

Almas vs McIntyre: ****¼ Really good match with a finish that shocked the life out of me. Almas has risen from the guy that jobbed to the guy who rulled NXT! The finish came out of nowhere, to the point I think they changed the result then. Drew Looks hurt. Wargames: **** Clusterfuck but a fun one. Killian Dain looked fantastic and a beast. The result was predictable but that doesn’t really matter. Good match."
MitsuharuMisawa wrote on 06.12.2017:
"The opener is useless. The second match is the best of the night, it's funny, it tells a story, and Black's kicks are easy on the eye. The 4Way is very boring and disappointing, Nothing good. The NXT title match has a very bad finish, McIntyre is defeated too easily. The War Games is the worst one i've ever seen."

[7.0] "NXT keeps bringing a more contemporary product compared to its parent company WWE. Lars Sullivan -vs- Kassius Ohno [**], Ohno becomes the first one to stun the beast, but that was all. Lars Sullivan demolishes Chris Hero with authority! Aleister Black -vs- The Velveteen Dream [** 3/4] Loved the Velveteen/Black pants! Flashback to the old days! The match grew surprisingly entertaining too. Ember Moon -vs- Kairi Sane -vs- Nikki Cross -vs- Peyton Royce – (NXT Women’s Title Decision; Fatal Four Way) [** 1/2] Moon and Sane were keeping things alive in there. Should have just had a singles match between the two, but I guess they’re saving that for later. Drew McIntyre (c) -vs- Andrade Almas – (NXT Title) [*** 1/4] The guys might have taken the big bumps, but it was Zelina Vega who was the MVP guiding her man to victory. A fine climax for a damn solid rise of the luchador! Adam Cole & Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly -vs- Roderick Strong & Akam & Rezar -vs- Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young & Killian Dain – (War Games) [*** 1/2] The War Games are back…. NXT-style! Not sure if I felt the vibes of the old days, with so many new cage variations since, but they structured a true cage battle with the commentators getting the important points across. Naturally there was a good share of planned spots to bring the spectacular, but for me the story was the real thread to enjoyment. Mini-Shawn Michaels started out as the weak leader and somehow guided his side in a impressive way."

[9.0] "Another great show from the standout superstars at NXT, the standout matches here were Dream vs. Black, Moon vs. Sane vs. Cross vs. Royce, & of course the War Games match! Sullivan vs. Ohno was what I expected it to be, a showcase of Sullivan's strength, and it was really all about getting Sullivan over, which he has been having no trouble doing as of late. For me, the weak spot on the card was oddly enough McIntyre vs. Almas, it wasn't horrible or anything, it was just compared to other matches on the card a basic, average match that really did nothing for me. Almas' bout with Gargano was leaps & bounds better than this, but like I said this match wasn't a dud or anything, it had it's moments & spots. I guess the most shocking part about this match is is that Almas actually won the NXT Championship, & McIntyre walked away with what could be a serious injury that could see him out of action for months to come. Dream vs. Black was just an absolute classic, and I think we all knew it was going to be, the feud going into this match was so great, the storytelling was unparalleled. The fatal 4 way for the vacant NXT Women's Championship was another great match, I was glad Moon won as she definitely deserved every bit of that win. Finally, the main event, the long awaited return of the War Games match alas it was altered in it's final form, but this match was still greatly entertaining and the roofless cage actually allowed for a crazy spot to take place between Adam Cole & Roderick Strong, where Strong suplexed Cole off the top of the cage! Not to mention weapons, there were plenty of weapons involved here, Dave Meltzer called this match the best weapons match of the year. Overall, this was another great show from NXT full of guys with enormous potential & talent."

[9.0] "Another amazing TakeOver, with tons of great moments. With as much hype NXT has to live up to, they seem to always do it. Starting off with Ohno vs Sullivan, it did what it had to do and the match was what it needed to be. Extended squash match that makes Lars into a monster (**3/4). Also, the women's match wasn't as solid as it could have been, but good booking, some high spots and the correct winner. Asuka handing the title to Ember was awesome (***1/2). That leaves three matches that burned the house down and all could be argued as the MOTN. First Black vs Dream was the best feud heading into the entire weekend. Great storytelling and an amazing mat match. Velveteen Dream is the real deal and you don't see anyone getting cheered over a stud like Black often. This match had it all: great story, great moves and sequences, great entrances, Dream's pants were amazing and Black showed his dominance while making Dream a star (****1/2). NXT Title match was also amazing. McIntyre is such a fun wrestler to match, but this match was carried by Almas. Man, what a stretch this guy had, his insane amount of momentum is why they chose to put the title on him. Almas is a star and he is finally starting to climb and be the top guy like he deserves to be. Also, Zelina Vega is a very great manager, and I love how she actually does moves to the other wrestlers. Sad that McIntyre got hurt since he was either going to continue this feud, face Adam Cole, or go to the main roster (****1/4). War Games lived up to the hype it had. Undisputed looked like future top guys of the business, Sanity looked great and crazy taking all the big spots, AOP looked dominant and gave some cool power moments, Roderick Strong also looked like a superstar. Correct winners, huge spots, memorable moments, and all 9 men came out looking very great, but Undisputed Era looked like it could change the whole game (****1/2). Overall, a fantastic show that didn't run entirely too long and makes us intrigued for th"

Dream/Black: Storytelling was really great in this match and I've got no doubt that Dream is going to be a big star (****1/2). Fatal 4 was decent with the right winner (***1/4). Andrade looks really good the last months and is going to be a great champ (***3/4) Main Event was spotfest but a great one, Dain and Strong were the MVP's in the match but everyone worked really great and for me the best WWE main event this year (****3/4)"

[8.0] "Lars Sullivan is very entertaining but Ohno has done nothing for me since his return to NXT. This may have been both men's best match in NXT this year. (***) The build for Aleister Black vs. The Velveteen Dream was excellent and had me thirstin' to see the match. They did not disappoint. Great slow build into some explosive action and the aftermath of it all has me satisfied and happy to see more for this unusal combo. (****) The women's four way was a cluster and a spot fest but a lot of fun to watch. Great performances from all involved but the booking has me a little puzzled. We'll see where it goes. (*** 3/4) Almas/McIntyre looked like an uncomfortable clash of styles on paper but it turned out to be utterly fantastic. If you only watch one match from this card, watch this. Easily MOTN. (**** 1/2) Like the women's match, War Games was a total cluster and spotty af but so much fun to watch it should've been illegal. Author's of Pain and Killian Dain were the MVP's in this by far, they made this fun. (*** 3/4) Overall a very entertaining event."

[8.0] "The traditionalist in me has some qualms with the WarGames match - I didn't like both extra members of the teams coming in at once rather than one at a time or that pinfalls counted, and I still think the cage should've had a roof (yeah, it would've sacrificed the Strong-Cole cage superplex spot, but the tradeoff would have been giving the AoP more to do and more options for their offense against their smaller opponents). But that doesn't change that it was a memorable car crash of a match, with plenty of big spots and hot action to make it more than worthwhile viewing. Elsewhere, Aleister Black and Velveteen Dream surprised with the best pure wrestling match of the weekend, with fantastic hard-hitting action and in-ring storytelling. The rest of the card was characteristically strong for TakeOver events as well, making for a fine outing throughout."

[5.0] "Very mixed show. Sullivan vs Ohno was nothing. Ohno had nice strike technique. Sullivan was an embarrassing cartoon heel. **1/4. Black vs Velveteen was MOTN. I liked Velveteen's charisma and constantly trying to aggravate Black while Black just controlled him until Velveteen took advantage of some slip ups to gain the upper hand. Nice story of them both getting in each others' heads. Both played their characters well and had some very good chemistry. ***3/4. Moon vs Sane vs Cross vs Royce was another 'nothing' match. Royce is a very bland heel. Her offence and movement was very awkward. Cross' 'crazy' gimmick continued being one of the most cringeworthy personas in all of WWE. Kairi's offence was totally neutered, as happens with all Japanese wrestlers who come to WWE. She didn't get much time to impress. Moon's athleticism was good, but her double stunner finish was ridiculous. Her victory felt hollow since she essentially only won because Asuka didn't compete **1/4. McIntyre vs Almas was a very good story of the arrogant high-flying heel vs the powerhouse face. Lots of great spots, especially from Almas, the star of the match. Nice use of Vega too. Many convincing near-falls and a good booking decision for Almas to win. Close 2nd MOTN. ***3/4. The War Games match was just an extremely long, bland spot-fest. Started boring, got better, but then devolved into typical WWE multi-man stupidity. **1/4. I should also say the camera work was poor all show-long."

(Haven’t seen a lot of the early ones) I was skeptical that War Games would deliver because there is such a high bar to clear, but man, they did it. Such a great garbage brawl reminiscent of ECW. Velveteen Dream is a star in the making. Great great show. Tons better than Survivor Series, which was just ok."

I felt like this event was missing a thing or two, can't put my finger on it but this is definitely one of the best WWE events I've seen this year from top to bottom, can barely fault the thing as a whole. Almas winning was unexpected but so welcomed as he's earned it. Amazing match ****1/2. War Games was epic as well. Totally lived up to the hype as one wild ass match ****3/4. Overall NXT knocked it out of the park once again; no bad matches at all, every match delivered."

After bad opener there was Black vs. Dream which for me was a really good match. Interesting clash of in-ring styles and gimmicks. Overall ***1/2. Women's fatal 4-way was MOTN for me. Watchable spotfest with awesome ending, ***3/4. Mcintyre vs Almas - okay, I'm not really sold on them and this match wasn't exception. Almas won which was shock for me. I hope that Black is going for that title. ***1/4. Main event for me was what I think it would be. Complete chaos with spot-after-spot-after-spot. End of this match was weak after all. The Women's Title 4 way was a real good match, bit too all over the place to be a great match but perfect for the 4 way stip & following the Black match (***). NXT Title match was a brilliant Title match, Drew in NXT is 100x the Indy Drew he is fantastic. Andrade is an Incredible talent & this match did not dissapoint (****). Velveteen Dream was absolutely great in this match. Guy is great already. Black was tremendous too. This feud has been great. Shows that personal issues can still draw interest. MOTN. Women's titles match: ***1/2. Stupid finish. If Ember was going to win, she should have just beat Asuka for it. Also Asuka handing her the belt after makes what was one of the strongest booked titles anywhere, look very weak and meaningless. Match was pretty good. NXT title match: ***3/4. I'm stunned by the result. Andrade was really good. Zelena was tremendous. Match was very good. War Games: ****. This dragged for most of it but the last 5 minutes were great. I could not even imagine that the match would turn out so steep and what Andrade Almas would win. Main Event is simply a masterpiece. There was a real war in the ring.
