[7.0] "Decent PPV from WCW. Disappointing end. Would have been nice for WCW to get a win in the main event but NWO just kept winning and winning everything at this stage. Chris Benoit vs Chris Jericho, Rey Misterio vs Super Calo and Juvi vs Konnan were all great matches. Still an enjoyable War Games match at the end."

[10.0] "This show delivered on all fronts. The War Games main event was classic storytelling with the nWo storyline at its peak with WCW becoming the architect of its own downfall. It ended in a very strong angle where Sting single handedly takes out every nWo member in the match, but after he vindicated himself he walks out of the match because the rest of his teams mistrust of him went too far with nobody in WCW even questioning the footage that happened on Nitro and Luger stabbing him in the back after he went to bat for him and it's a poetic way for their friendship to end. The nWo come out looking more dominant than ever with a very tense ending where they beat down on Savage and Miss Elizabeth lays on top of him to try and stop them and they spray paint her dress. That aside the rest of the card was stacked and really showed how much depth the WCW roster had in 1996 and there wasn't a single match here without merit. The stand outs for me would probably be Mysterio vs Calo, Benoit vs Jericho, Konnan vs Juvi, DDP vs Chavo and I thought Savage vs Giant was another great storyline match."

[5.0] "It's a weird show with a lot of almost indy matches in the middle. Konnan vs Juventud was the best example of that, as they did all the moves they could without any thought put into them, until they just decided to go home. Similar thing with Calo who was the most not over guy of the night, plus Harlem Heat vs The Nasties wasn't anything they haven't done before. But there were also some highlights. DDP had another fantastic performance, this time against green Chavo Guerrero, Ice Train and Norton beat the shit out of each other, Benoit vs Jericho was alright, although not at the level of their matches in the future, while Giant vs Savage was fine for what it was. And then the main event had a big fight feeling and they did a nice job of structuring and pacing it, plus the stuff with Sting was great, but the finish could have been built a little better. So all in all not a bad PPV - they prolonged the hot angle, got the crowd invested for the main eventers and included some decent bouts all around."

[4.0] "I watched a different show to everyone else, I guess. Not awful but "adequate" seems perfectly fair despite this apparently being prime WCW and one of their highest-rated shows on here. DDP/Chavo is a decent opener that would've been better if it weren't a shade too long, which will be a running theme of the night. Norton/Train isn't a barnburner but has a fine hoss bit here and there and keeps it short. Konnan chucking Juvi around is fun, there should've been more of that in their match. Benoit/Jericho is shockingly dull and Rey/Calo is a carryjob where someone decided that the guy the crowd doesn't know should endlessly work holds for heat. Heat/Nastys is nowhere near as awful as a 15-minute Nasty Boys match could be so fair play I suppose. Always here for Macho Man but his encounter with The Giant is nothing to write home about. The main event is alright but really relies on the hot crowd and the then-freshness of the NWO and heel Hogan. That aspect, the usual big presentation around War Games, and Rey's performance in his match is about all I entirely enjoy here. The post-match angle with Hogan spitting on and spray painting Elizabeth is good stuff, though."

I don't even want to rate this so low because nothing on the show was insanely awful but everything was insanely boring. Even Benoit wasn't cooking against a pretty competent worker in Jericho. I guess the Rey match was MOTN but that had what felt like almost 10 minutes of heat and dead air. The fake Sting in the main event is just so stupid but not really in a funny or laughable way, just confusing."

[9.0] "This was a great show, with an early Benoit/Jericho match and the main event, which featured the fake Sting angle. Sting's character was changed from this night on as everyone he trusted turned their backs on him. Hogan and the nWo attacked Savage and Elizabeth after the match. This was the turning point in the nWo angle, and would fuel the entyire company for the next year and half into Starrcade 1997. This was damn well executed."

[9.0] "Two months after the formation of the NWO and the story was on fire at this point. The main event featured a well-executed story with a hot angle involving the deception of the NWO Sting and the appearance during the match of the jilted real Sting, who briefly helped his team but then walked back out due to the rest of his team (especially Luger) doubting him. This and the post-match attack on Savage and Elizabeth, with Sting refusing to help, would set the stage for Sting's disappearance and reemergence under his Crow Sting persona. (I've also come to believe that Savage never should've joined the NWO and instead should have remained a babyface fighting against them.) As far as the impostor Sting is concerned, it was pretty obvious to anyone with eyes that he wasn't the real deal, but Farmer did do a reasonably good job of imitating the real Sting's moves during the match. At any rate, the rest of the card is pretty strong overall as well, with a string of great matches in the middle in Konnan-Juvi, Rey-Calo and Benoit-Jericho. Too bad WCW never really did much else with Super Calo as he looked great in this match. Giant vs. Savage was also pretty good and helped firmly establish the post-Dungeon of Doom Giant, DDP vs. Chavo was a fun opener, and Harlem Heat-Nasties and Norton vs. Ice Train were nothing offensive. A great watch for fans of this era."

[8.0] "The average start of the first two matches was quickly surpassed and the PPV hit its stride, getting better with each bout, being between very good and great. After said first two matches, there's no weak point with every contest having something to offer. The Main Event hyping throughout the show is excellent, as it was during Bash At The Beach. Commentary was fantastic as well, building to the Main Event and keeping the show high in drama and anticipation. However, I'd like more passion during the final stages, when Sting showed up. MOTN goes to War Games, although a standing ovation has to go to Harlem Heat and the Nasty Boys, definitely the surprise of the night."

[9.0] "Probably the most memorable WCW ppv of all time. Chavo gets his big chance against Dallas but comes up short in his micro feud. Hoss battle was lacking but Ice Train and Norton are safe for obscurity. Konnan is with the Dungeon of Doom for some reason and has a amazing match with Guerrera. Benoit vs Jericho was a technical masterpiece followed immediately by a cruiserweight classic. Skip the Nasty Boys. Giant vs Savage was fine, really enjoying Macho man's intensity. The War Games match gave us the precursor to Sting leaving WCW and coming back as the dark Sting. Also overall good wargames."

[4.0] "Another pretty disappointing WCW PPV during the supposed 'golden years' of the Nitro-era. The undercard matches were surprisingly okay, and most of the bad matches were usually kept short, but none of them were actually especially good, and the much-anticipated main-event was underwhelming. Chavo vs DDP was a decent spotfest, with DDP's impactful powerhouse-based attacks and Chavo's agile and aerial-based attacks looking decent. **3/4. Norton vs Ice-Train had some okay powerhouse interactions, though some looked quite awkward too, and their submission work was very underwhelming. *3/4. Konnan vs Juventud was at times pretty messy but at other times quite a fun mindless spotfest. Konnan's dumb jock powerhouse attacks were cool, while Juventud had some pretty slick aerial attacks. **3/4. Benoit vs Jericho was competent without being too interesting. Benoit's aggressive and impactful offence was really good, while Jericho's agile attacks were decent but not as polished. They had some impressively reckless high spots and fun signature moves, but they lost steam in the middle. ***. Mysterio vs Calo was another alright match. Mysterio's various stunts were all awesome, but their 'in-between' work to get to those spots often felt quite directionless and meandering. Calo was pretty mediocre but at least had a few decent high-flying attacks of his own. ***. Harlem Heat vs The Nasty Boys was uninspired, lifeless, and filled to the brim with interference. Mostly just generic punch-and-kick brawling with nothing actually exciting or creative. *3/4. Savage vs The Giant was fine. Giant's monstrous offence had surprisingly decent technique and energy, and his new NWO-based character work was appropriately more serious. Savage showed decent charisma in his comeback, though his offence was typically very limited. The NWO interference (and crooked ref Patrick's ignorance) at the end made for a very underwhelming finish. **1/4. The War Games match was fine as a bunch of 'spectacle' spots for the sake of crowd-pops, but the actual wrestling exchanges and spots themselves were extremely bland. Moments like Hogan getting ganged up on by the babyfaces, Flair doing his iconic stylin' and profilin' taunts, and Sting clearing house of all 4 nWo opponents by himself were all somewhat entertaining and received big crowd-pops, but they were short-lived and always involved -- plus always preceded and proceeded by -- very basic in-ring work that simply wasn't exciting or interesting. The finish with nWo Sting submitting Arn was very flat, too. **1/2. The big post-match brawl ended in Savage hunting down Hogan, clearly out for revenge from being spray-painted, but he instead got ganged-up on once again. Elizabeth's attempt to save him was underwhelming and didn't even make sense, considering she'd sided against him and constantly mocked/picked on him when Savage was feuding with the Four Horsemen. The nWo's arrogant showboating at the end was entertaining, at least."

[6.0] "There were a lot of decent matches on this show, and it was far more consistent than many WCW events, but it lacked much in the way of true high points, and those it did have were mostly story based. Worth watching for sure, but nowhere near as good as its reputation suggests."

[9.0] "Very strong show, nWo is very hot right now. [1st match] Good opener but with some slipups. Chavo showed great balance with that springboard clothesline, I really thought he was gonna fall backwards out of the ring. *** [2nd match] Call this an I-Quit match, because that's what's it is. Ice Train was scarily strong muscling Norton around, better match than I was expecting. **1/2 [3rd match] First of the matches to utilize the 2nd ring for cool spots. Konnan hit some awesome powerbombs. ***1/2 [4th match] Amazing match; Jericho hit flying moves, whilst Benoit locked on submissions - including Jericho's Liontamer. MOTN ****1/2 [5th match] Rey was the underdog here. Calo beat the crap outta Rey, including some scary and unsafe-looking moves (that Missile Dropkick to the outside especially). Good finish though. **** [6th match] Worst match so far but it was still okay. Sherri seemed out of position for the Pit Stop spot. **1/2 [7th match] Slow to start but fair. The nWo jumping Savage at the first sign of a face comeback, because their dicks. ** [Main] The twists & turns, momentum shifts, the swerve... everything about this was great. **** I think wrestling-wise this was better that BATB '96, but the story of the latter was better and the post match stuff for this show got too ridiculous."

[7.0] "This was top to bottom, a very solid event, with everything other than Norton vs Ice-Train and the semi main being entertaining. Jericho vs Benoit was easily MOTN, but it was weird seeing Jericho being so bland from a character perspective. The opener, Konnan vs Juventud and the cruiserweight title match were all of similar quality, although the latter of which would have been much better if Rey was allowed to get more offense in. As for the main event, it was enjoyable and had a hot crowd throughout, however the finish fell very flat for me."

[9.0] "What a great event! Maybe this is the best WCW could have in 1996. Some impressive matches and an enjoyable War Games main event with some twits and a big turning point for Sting. Rey Mysterio vs Super Calo is a quality match, Benoit vs Jericho and Konnan vs Juventud are good enough to be recommended. There isn't a single fail in this event and that's why it's one of the best of all time for the promotion."

[9.0] "The first hour and a half of this PPV is flawless as it presents so many variations of professional wrestling. The Benoit vs. Jericho match isn't as good as their Japan bout but it's still very good. 1996 Rey Mysterio is one of the all-time greats in terms of in-ring ability. The nWo angle is still fresh and the combination of great characters and great crowd heat makes for enjoyable viewing. Strong recommendation to watch. Match of the Night: Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho (****)"

[10.0] "A great show! DDP/Chavo was a great opener, followed by a good hoss match. Juvi/Konnan was an excellent showcase for both men, and Benoit/Jericho followed with a very strong performance. Mysterio/Calo was the match of the night and honestly a match of the year contender in my book, an awesome and underrated match. Tag match followed it was also good, and Savage/Giant was pretty great considering how short it was. War Games was great, not the best ever but very good and with good storytelling. The show closing beatdown by the nWo is really despicable, it's great stuff."
