[7.0] "A mostly great NXT Takeover. Despite being a very iconic Takeover for the brand, on rewatch it is clear that the status of this show is built on one match and one match only. Shinsuke Nakamura's debut against a departing Sami Zayn is many people's favorite NXT match ever and that is not a wrong assessment but it is very much an outlier on the card. American Alpha vs The Revival is also great and is as great as any other Takeover tag match that you can find and I think that's why this match isn't remembered as well as others. Still it's a great way to open up the show with the approval of Kota Ibushi but that immediate momentum is squashed by another debuting signee taking on a departing NXT star Austin Aries vs Baron Corbin. I thought the match was good but at the time Corbin had go away heat and Aries didn't exactly win the support of the crowd who were there to see Shinsuke Nakamura and not him. Nakamura vs Sami is a classic that deserves its acclaim but is it the best NXT match of all time? maybe. The following match is Bayley vs Asuka which is great but it is admittedly cursed by having to follow up such a great match. The main event started off great but was snuffed out by WWE's unwillingness to show mass amounts of blood as Samoa Joe got busted open immediately and so the momentum and tone of the match is rendered unable to rise to the heights it should've easily reached. It's a real mixed bag but in all honestly a mediocre NXT Takeover is a classic WWE PPV as even its low points are still quite good"

"NXT TakeOver: Dallas was a solid event that had an electric crowd. It wasn't a strong show overall, but it delivered some memorable moments and one all-time classic. The opener was solid and set the tone for the night. Both teams showed crisp teamwork, and the crowd was energetic. Nothing groundbreaking, but an enjoyable way to kick things off (07/10). Austin Aries vs Baron Corbin was easily the weakest match of the night. The crowd wasn't into it, and the action just felt flat (04/10). Sami Zayn vs Shinsuke Nakamura was the obvious highlight of the show and of the best matches in NXT history. The atmosphere was electric from the entrances to the closing bell. A Masterpiece. Looking back, it's disappointing how Nakamura's WWE career would unfold afterwards, as it never quite lived up to the promise shown here (10/10. Bayley (c) vs Asuka was a strong women's title match. Asuka's strikes and submissions gave her a dominant edge, while Bayley fought with heart and resilience (07/10). Finn Bálor (c) vs Samoa Joe was a hard-hitting main event where Joe looked like an absolute monster. Unfortunately, the constant stoppages to clean Joe's blood killed the match's flow. Still, it was a solid fight to close the show (07/10)."

Nothing seems too long and it doesn't really drag anywhere. This is quite a good takeover, though there are some out there that are even better. I especially liked the shorter length of this."

[10.0] "Aries Vs Corbin was bad but all the title matches are genuinely fantastic, the Dallas crowd was absolutely electric and the main highlight of the show is the phenomenal WWE/NXT debut of Shinsuke Nakamura and his masterpiece against Sami Zayn which was also the perfect NXT swan song for Zayn. Overall NXT Takeover: Dallas is definitely one of the all time best Takeovers ever and it made WrestleMania 32 look small, which would be a trend for most Takeovers before Manias for a good while."
RealGrapsThomsen wrote on 13.07.2024:
[10.0] "This is definitely the best Takeover in my humble opinion. The main event slightly under delivered but was still a good match and Corbin/Aries was basically filler. Besides that, so much cool stuff happened on this show such as Nakamuras debut and best match in WWE, American Alphas crowning moment in a very good match with FTR and the start to Asukas dominant title reign. All of this with an amazing crowd."

One of the better Takeovers, with Sami Zayn yet again showing that he's probably the best men's wrestler in NXT until Adam Cole showed up. American Alpha and The Revival always had great chemistry. A good show all around."

"Probably the most nostalgic I can possibly get for a payperview, but this was my first NXT TakeOver and that was when I truly became just a massive fan of wrestling in general after just getting into it in December 2015. The drama they were able to create in the opener, Nakamura's phenomenal debut, Asuka looking lethal and Bálor managing to survive Joe, it was all just so well booked."

Aside from Aries/Corbin, everything else is at least solid but it does not feel at that top tier level. Nakamura/Zayn was a very good match but never resonated with me on the all time scale like it seemed to for many. Really enjoyed the opener. The double main was pretty good but I would not say either were great."

The Shinsuke v Sami match is Overrated for me & Balor v Joe would've been a Classic without the Stoppages which held it back & also the fact that Joe didn't win. He dominates that match for the most part doing great Heel work, him being crowned Champion after battering Finn & himself with Blood pouring down his face would've been Iconic."

[10.0] "The opener was a red-hot sprinter of a match that showed the excellence of tag team wrestling in the purest way possible which WWE severely missed to showcase in months or years probably. American Alpha was the right team to carry the tag division forward with their sheer wrestling skill & energetic presence. Aries/Corbin was a pretty good match that was underappreciated by many. Zayn/Nakamura was a spectacular battle between the flagbearer of NXT & the new import for the brand. The transition of the position from Zayn to Nakamura was done in the best way possible. Bayley & Asuka had a really great technical contest that is overshadowed among the NXT classics from the women's division. The main event was a fabulous rematch from London with a jarring intervention that hurt the flow of the bout. The ending might've been the usual WWE trope, but it's done in a good way to protect both men as well as pave the way for a fitting trilogy. This TakeOver was an all-timer because of the sensation in Zayn vs. Nakamura as well as an exceptional support of matches before & after the match. Also, the Texas crowd tore the rafters down with their superlative reaction for all the moments and fantastic spots of all the matches. 9.5 out of 10 points!"

[9.0] "This was to me, the first great TakeOver, with Aries vs Corbin being the only thing on the show that wasn't good. Nakamura vs Zayn was MOTN and may very well be the best in-ring debut any WWE wrestler has ever had and to this day is still Shinsuke's best match in the company by a mile. Elsewhere the opener was good for the most part, as was Asuka vs Bayley, but that match definitely suffered from having to directly follow Shinsuke and Sami. Finally, the main event was also enjoyable and could have possibly been great if it weren't for the match having to be stopped multiple times, due to the cut Joe suffered early on."

[10.0] "IMO start to finish, this is the best Takeover special to date. AA vs The Revival was the perfect way to start, and aside from that one glaring botch, was a highly entertainig and fast pace match. Both teams played their roles well. Well deserved title win for Gable and Jordan. (****) Aries vs Corbin was the weakest match here but still solid, Aries looked good in his debut and establihsed himself immediately. (***) Nakamura vs Zayn was an instant classic and one of the best WWE matches this decade and in the running for best NXT match ever. It felt big and it was. Nakamura from his entrance alone came off as a big star. This was just a stiff, dramatic wrestling clinic with a awesome crowd. Nakamura couldn't have had a better debut and Zayn closed out his great run in NXT with a fanatastic performance. They stole that whole weekend. (*****) Bayley and Asuka had a TOUGH act to follow but did so wonderfully. They told a great story here with Bayley trying to survive and Asuka outsmarting her and eventually making her pass out. I think most expected Asuka to win but not in that fashion. It set up the rematch nicely though. Unknowingly would be the beginning of Asuka's record breaking reign. (****1/4) Balor vs Joe had another great main event that was both brutal and bloody. The ref stoppages hurt it a bit but I liked how they made it part of the story of the match. Also liked how Balor used the Bret/Piper ending to retain. (****1/4)"

Overall another great NXT tag team match. Austin v Baron was not bad but at the same time was nothing special. It more or less just did a good job of establishing Austin in NXT. Shinsuke Sami was a good match but again was nothing special. The Asuka Bayley match was quiet good. Bayley did a lot of the heavy lifting in this and had a great match. The final match had the makings of being just as good as the first but joe having to get cleaned up during the match deflated some of the hype and excitement. That being said it was still a fine match and the ending was great."

AA/Revival was the first out of the great series of matches between these two amazing teams, and was a great match however was ruined slightly by one ridiculous botch (***1/2), Aries Vs Corbin was..... not the best debut for Aires unfortunately (**1/2), Zayn/Nakamura was one of the greatest matches of the decade for WWE, hands down (****3/4), Asuka/Bayley was great but was slightly disappointing as it could have gone on longer, but didn't, with the admittedly well booked finish simply serving as an angle to set up their eventual rematch (***1/2) and Balor and Joe had easily their best match together, enhanced by the blood and Joe's performance while the doctors were cleaning him up. My only complaint is that Joe should have gone over (****)"

Also, I expect less for Balor vs Joe and it was good but the blood and the referees influenced too much in the match."

Corbin has come quite a long way to the point where I actually look forward to his work now. With the loss, I'd imagine he's up on the main roster for good now. The show really set the tone for the weekend, and from what I've seen, was the best card of the weekend. The three title matches were all really good, and Nakamura/Zayn is my MOTY so far."

I actually really liked the Asuka/Bayley match. It seemed as the longer the match went on, the more that everyone wanted Bayley to win, which made it all the more shocking when she lost. Good match though. ****1/4. I had high hopes that Balor/Joe would improve on their effort from London but was left a bit unsatisfied by it. It was still quite a brutal match and I didn't mind all the stoppages as it added to the realism of it. However, I didn't like the ending as it wasn't a move that should've ended the match, especially for a championship match in the main event, which proved to be quite anti-climatic. Oh well. ***3/4."

[8.0] "As the show off for the developmental portion of the roster, another take off brought the goods. American Alpha's road to be champions has been paved well. It was their moment and they delivered. Aries and Corbin delivered as much as two guys like Aries and Corbin can. Nakamura makes his debut in wonderful fashion to help the people who had never heard of him see what the hype was about. Asuka taking the title off Bayley, will hopefully mean promotion time for Bayley soon, but the match went well. All in all Balor vs Joe wasn't the best match to be found, and a lot of hype on both these guys is more will they show up on RAW then which one has the NXT title. Solid show over all. Another job well done for the weekend."

Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura was absolutely incredible and a much watch (****1/2), was MOTN for me. Asuka vs. Bayley was pretty good but not great ***1/2. Balor vs Joe was a good match, quite exciting, preferred their other match at Takeover London though. Liked the ending, it made sense and kept Joe from looking weak, **** rating. [9.0] "A fantastic event and contender for best NXT special. Nakamura and Zayn turned in a Match of the Year Candidate in Nakamura's WWE debut, and while that stole the show, all of the other matches were also solid-to-great. There were a few things that kept it from a perfect score - the medical team's interruptions did ruin the flow of the main event's early going, though Joe and Balor were able to recover from it, and while Aries-Corbin was a fine enough David-vs. -Goliath matchup, I'd have debuted Aries against a smaller opponent with whom he could show his full range of skills and save Corbin for the next special. That's nitpicking, though; this was an excellent show and comes highly recommended. It'll be a hard act for WrestleMania to follow."

The other matches are even better than expected, Nakamura debut is a success with an amazing match with Zayn, and the main event between Joe and Balor could have been better but it has its moments. Highly recommended."

[10.0] "Ooooh my goodness, what a show! An excellent and exciting opening match between 2 fantastic tag teams (and the closest we would ever have to The Minnesota Wrecking Crew vs Haas & Benjamin). The 2nd match was the worst of the show, as it didn't show off Austin Aries as a wrestler, but he did put over Baron Corbin as a monster heel, so, good storyline match. Shinsuke Nakamura possibly had the best debut in the history of wrestling, in a MOTY candidate and possible 5-star match against Sami Zayn. Asuka and Bayley put on a excellent women's match with incredibly high stakes, and Finn Balor wrestled Samoa Joe in an unpredictable brawl that included Joe getting busted open with seconds of starting. Easily 1 of the best wrestling shows that WWE have ever produced, and definitely a tough act for Wrestlemania to follow... if not a vertical climb."

I enjoyed the bit of the shock value from seeing Bayley losing the Women's title in that finish. Definitely wasn't what people expected, but I believed that Asuka would win the title since Bayley will most likely debut on the main roster soon. The main event was good, even though the match was paused a few times because of Joe's cut. We got a "f*ck PG" chant out of it, so I'm happy with it.
