[7.0] "Starrcade III (1985): 1) Krusher Kruschev vs. Sam Houston for the vacant Mid-Atlantic title. Krusher gives Sam the Sycle and Sam has his foot on the rope, but ref doesn't see it. New MA belt is sharp. 3) Ron Bass vs. Black Bart in a bull rope match. It is not a four-corners bull rope, but it is a blood bath. Bass wins, and gets five minutes with JJ Dillon, which doesn't go as he expected, as Dillon jumps him early, Bass turns the tables and bloodies up JJ, but when the ref goes down, Bart enters and piledrives him to help JJ win. 5) Terry Taylor vs. Buddy Landel for the National title. Not a bad match, but wish it was a little more high-paced. Good finish, as Taylor is going for his superplex off the second rope, he gets tripped by Dillon, and Landel collapses on top of Taylor, and the three second tan. Landel is the new National Champion. It's about time Landel got booked with gold, as he has been one of the best performers in the territory the last year. 7) Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum TA for the U.S. title inside a steel cage, in an "I Quit Match." It was another blood-soaked encounter. Would've liked to see a little more wrestling, as this was just yet another hardcore match, but it delivered regardless. The chair bit at the end was fantastic, as Tully broke down a wooden chair to create a spike, but it ended up in TA's possession, and he stabbed Tully in the forehead, forcing Tully to quit and win the title. 9) The Koloffs vs. Rock n' Roll Express inside a steel cage for the NWA tag team titles. Morton is a bloody mess, and Gibson takes a post-match beat down aimed at injuring his throat, but regardless we have new tag team champions."

[7.0] "The Greensboro half of Starrcade '85 started with a few so-so matches before it hit the motherload in the legendary I Quit match between Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard. The tag title steel cage match that followed was pretty great as well, so the night ended with a bang."

[5.0] "Apart from the I Quit Match, there was nothing extraordinary. But nothing very bad either. Still, it was this match (in Hall 1) that had the best in-ring in the end. On the other hand, this Starrcade is very lacking in off-ring angles and segments, which is rather surprising and makes the show less digestible. In-ring quality: 3.5/5. Angles and off-ring segments: 0/3. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 5.5/10. Show seen on WWE Network."

[6.0] "The match of the night in Greensboro should come as no surprise. It's the I Quit match. That definitely saved this portion of Starrcade for me because I couldn't get into much else. The Tag Title match was a great moment for the crowd but it didn't resonate with me like it did to other folks. It was fine. Loved the ending of Landel and Taylor and the rest of the match was just okay and Bass/Bart & Houston/Kruschev were not terrible but also not worth my time. Tully and Magnum really overshadowed everyone else here. Tremendous match."

[8.0] "Very good stuff with all matches being a great watch - even Bass vs Bart, which was technically the worst match on this show, was solid in a lot of aspects. They opened up with Kruschev vs Houston with Sam delivering a fantastic underdog performance, Landel vs Taylor had Terry show a lot of character and surprising intensity, while Magnum vs Tully was a phenomenal I Quit Match with Blanchard excelling once again as a prick heel and both guys making the whole bout feel like the torture chamber. And then the main event had a great showing from the Rock 'n' Roll Express with both Gibson and Morton selling and bumping like crazy with some big reactions from the crowd. So overall a very enjoyable show, the best things that NWA could offer at the time and the fans that were screaming for literally every face, which made the whole PPV so easy to watch."

[6.0] "The half of Starrcade '85 held in this arena was surely the better one. Nothing really great in the first few matches but I found the final two matches to be highly enjoyable. Two great Steel Cage Matches in a row that kept me interested in that show and also the two best matches of the night for me. All the other matches on this half of the card were okay. Not terrible but also not amazing. All in all, I believe a 6/10 for this half of the show is a fair rating."

Even when taking time-weighted averages into account, it doesn't really help the case for this card overall. The definition of a one match show at this arena."

Graham/Barbarian is the only dud in the bunch, with every other match on the card being either really good or an all-time classic. Magnum/Blanchard one of the greatest matches of all time for sure. This is a can't miss show for fans of rough-and-tumble '80s wrestling, although the copious blood may be a bit much for some."

[6.0] "It's weird to review Starrcade in two pieces but I guess we'll just roll with it. This is probably the stronger of the two cards, for obvious reasons, but there's not really a bad match on here, so to speak. The Mid-Atlantic championship was fine but a fairly standard 80s brawl, as was the Ron Bass-Black Bart match for much of it, albeit a fun, bloody little bullrope match. Landel and Taylor was equally mediocre. The latter two matches on this particular card, though, were both incredibly fun, with the I Quit Cage Match being one of the all time great NWA matches period, a truly revolutionary bloody fight that stands up to this day, and the tag team match, while nowhere close to that standard, was still very good and well-worked and showed the strengths of the immortal Rock n Roll Express. While only one match is really "go out of your way" good, the whole card is at least fine and a passable way to spend an afternoon."

[6.0] "The Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title match to open was a very slow and very boring affair, with both hitting a few moves before Khruschev gets the win. * The Texas Bullrope Match was not even really a match until the finish. They just hit each other the cowbell a lot. ** The following Bullrope Match is far worse though, with nothing in the way of actual wrestling. 1/2* The National Heavyweight Title match is the best match so far, just above average. **3/4 U. S. Title, ? I Quit? Cage Match was not just the best match from this half, but the best match on the entire card. One of the great, insane, excruciatingly violent matches of the 1980s. Many call it the Match of the Decade. I? m not sure I? d go that far, but it? s still quite a thrill ride. ***** NWA World Tag Team Titles Cage Match was the main event of this half of the show. It was a good match, but the crowd felt drained after the hardcore battle just before. This was the quintessential Rock ? n? Rolls match where one of them took a beating, but they stayed with their plan and used quickness and resourcefulness to save the day. Good stuff. ***3/4"

[6.0] "Solid card with some very interesting matches. Really, a one match show. Blanchard vs Magnum made this part of the event. The bullrope match and the tag team cage match were fairly enjoyable, and the other two aired matches were decent enough to fill the card. The US title match was of course the highlight and one of the best cage matches at the time. I rewatched it just to confirm my opinion. This leg of the whole Starrcade 85 event got the better matches. Lots of blood though. Who knew blading was gaining popularity at the time?"

It was one of the most BORING shows I've EVER watched... nothing else to say here... the quality of the matches was terrible, the quality of the shooting was unwatchable, and it was too freaking long! Why do they even divide one show into two parts and leave everything more or less curious only on second one?"

Magnum vs Blanchard is a great I Quit match, I also enjoyed Landel vs Taylor and the tag team match. The focus is always on the fight and less on the entertainment. They are the best matches of the two parts."

[3.0] "This felt bland despite how many gimmicks were forced onto this card. It wasn't that the wrestling was so much bad as it was that I just didn't want to watch it. There was nothing for me. It's like rice by itself. I can eat it, but I would much prefer if there was some sort of taste. The reason I rated this lower than just adequate was the absolutely atrocious broadcasting, or the lack thereof. There is just so much silence during the match, and all of the time they do actually talk seems so forced."
