[3.0] "Almost entirely a series of squash matches apparently designed to get people to buy Chi-Town Rumble on PPV, but for some bizarre reason drawn out to give a bunch of nobodies a tremendous amount of time in the ring against the guys who would be competing a few days later. The tag matches were mediocre, though that made them the best things on the show by default."

[3.0] "Chi-Town Rumble was five days away, so the biggest starts couldn't wrestle and if they did, then they didn't want to hurt each other and just stalled for time. Butch, Luger, Steamboat... I don't even blame them, as they would get a much bigger paycheck at the PPV, so why risk the injury? It's up on the booker though and George Scott gave absolutely no shits if the show felt like a TV special or a basic TV show. The opener was the only contest worth the time, as Bobby and Stan got a decent match out of The Assassins, but maybe it's because I wasn't tired yet. And of course the segment with Ricky and Flair was a fantastic way to sell their Chi-Town Rumble match - great from the pure enjoyment side and the psychology standpoint. But the rest was just not it with the main event leading the line, as Scott again absolutely shit on the crowd with making a last minute change and not having Sting, JYD and Hayes wrestle."

[4.0] "The main purpose of this show was to build up and promote the Chi-Town Rumble pay-perv-view that was set for a just a few weeks after, and the main bulk of that promotion was saved for the angle between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat after the 2nd match on the card. While Steamboat is ostensibly the babyface, many in the crowd are simply not buying 'The Dreagon's holier than thou persona, which means the angle doesn't really come off as WCW had hoped. The matches are average at best, non-descript at worst- match of the night honours went to Steve Williams & Mike Rotunda's battle with The Fantastics. Given the star power and talent in the main event this ended up being a dreadful disappointment, like so much of the event."

[2.0] "Absolute stinker of a show. The varsity club vs the fantastics was just about serviceable, the rest was either totally boring or straight up trash. And it was all topped off with that mess of a main event. What a terrible show. 2.5/10"

[4.0] "A very disappointing show. A bunch of long boring matches with very little action and excitement. The only great moment of this show was the Flair vs Steamboat angle where Flair enters the ring with models and fancy clothes and is then stripped to his underwear during an exchange with Steamboat."

[2.0] "The major problem with this show was simply that it was extremely boring. Was there an issue with the roster here? Multiple people pulled double duty and half of the card felt like extended squash matches. I can only assume they were worried about injuries before Chi-Town Rumble. The match times were all backwards and lead to the matches being either drawn out and boring or underdeveloped and disappointing. The highlight of the show was the promo segment between Flair and Steamboat, but outside of that it was this really difficult card to get through. This was a totally inconsequential show with really slow paced wrestling. Stay away from this one."

[3.0] "Unfortunately, a total nothing show, outside of the Flair Steamboat build. Several matches ran too long for the talent involved and too many wonky finishes or non-finishes. Luckily some of that frustration would be washed away five days later with one of the greatest matches of all time, but this is easily one of the worst Clash shows I've seen."

[3.0] "Showing this show to people should be punishable by law. I can't think of one thing on this show that can truly be described as good. We open with the Midnight Express taking on the Russian Assassins. it's boring, but still manages to be one of the best things on the show, since the Midnight Express at least carry the Russians to a competent match. Any goodwill this show had is immediately thrown out the window as Butch Reed dominates a jobber for 17 excruciating minutes. Steve Casey tries to make it work, but there's no hiding the fact that Reed has the charisma of damp cardboard. The NWA doesn't learn from this, as the next match is another extended squash, this time featuring Lex Luger fighting the Blackmailer, who's just Jack Victory working his second match of the night. It's bad, but not as bad as the last match. Lex is at least vaguely entertaining. We get a brief glimmer of hope as the Varsity Club take on the Fantastics in a match that just manages to be okay. On this card, it's brilliant. We then get Ricky Steamboat fighting Bob Bradley, another jobber. They try to make it seem competitive, with the story being that Steamboat's mind is on his match with Flair, so he's phoning it in. Bradly is not convincing enough to make it work, so we just get another squash that goes far too long. Rick Steiner has a match with Rip Morgan that's there. At least I've heard of Morgan. The main event is just weird. It's billed as the Road Warriors and Tenryu taking on Sting, JYD, and Michael Hayes, but they get locked in a basement and replaced with the Varsity Club. The NWA is seemingly fine with this. Eventually, they get free and fight with everyone in the match, causing an unsatisfying double DQ that seems appropriate for this show. Do not watch this."

This was a pretty good segment show overall. The in-ring on this show was certainly weak overall, I saw these matches referred to as extended squashes; which is pretty accurate. I enjoyed all the tag matches on this show to some extent."

[1.0] "Oof, not a good show at all. It feels, in many ways, like a standard episode of 80s wrestling television - lots of one-sided matches with stars against seeming enhancement talent, since while I'm not sure, I don't think anyone was really worried about the Russian Assassins, Blackmailer, or Bob Bradley stealing a win, to say a few. The early matches were long, drawn out affairs with the ending never really in doubt, and the later matches - also, usually, without the ending in doubt - were too short to really enjoy the greater star power. Having Rotunda and Dr. Death double up on wrestling seemed like a very odd choice, too, but I guess when they're only doing a five minute doubleDQ main even - yikes - it doesn't matter. There's just nothing really here to enjoy, maybe a decent US Tag Team Match between the Fantastics and the Varsity Club, but that's not worth the long, boring matches and the utterly disappointing, go nowhere main event. Skip it."

[0.0] "This show was one of the worst I've ever seen. The show was garbage from start to finish. With each passing match or segment I gave less and less of a shit. By the end I could not give a single fuck. Right from the first match it was an embarrassment. It felt like it went on for ages. You know it's bad when the best move of the match is a snap suplex. Both teams were terrible. The strikes were abominable especially from Stan Lane with utterly laughable kicks. I'm probably the only person ever to think this, but since I lost all interest by about match three, Butch Reed vs Steven Casey was my favorite match on the show. I enjoyed Casey's arm work and the pace was at least kinda good. The match was still fairly bad. Most of the show, it was littered with cringey shots of the crowd. One considerably bad shot was of two people making out. The Ric Flair segment, which I will remember as "Ric Flair and his bitches", was pretty awful. I felt no excitement whatsoever. The brawl was bad and the crowd enjoyed Ric Flair being stripped down to his underwear way too much. For Luger vs the Blackmailer, I was glad that Hiro Matsuda is not picky with who he manages as he went from the previous segment managing the world champion to managing an absolute jobber. I'd say that was the worst match on the show. There was nothing memorable past the Flair/Steamboat segment besides some pitiful Rick Steiner interviews where he came off like he had level 2 autism. The crowd astounded me by how crazy they were for this event. A bit like they were either a crowd of imbeciles with IQs of 40 or all on angel dust. This show put me in a bit of a depression, no exaggeration. I feel like I never want to see another wrestling match again. Don't watch this show."

[3.0] "An oddly-paced event, with the first two matches (and especially Reed vs Casey) going way too long, and the main event was compressed into a six-minute double-DQ. In between, there was a good US Tag Title match between the Varsity Club and the Fantastics, a couple of good promos from Steamboat and Flair to build their feud, and a lot of filler, like Luger beating "The Blackmailer" (Jack Victory, who did double duty as one of the Russian Assassins in the opener). Some OK performances throughout the card, to be sure, but there's ultimately not much to recommend seeking out."

Really unacceptable in-ring action. There is a strong point, the face to face between Flair and Steamboat with free man vs family man was a perfect way to tell a story. Easily skippable."

[4.0] "Oof. Weird show. You've got the great Midnight Express beating some lame nothing of a team, The Russian Assassins. Butch Reed beating Steve Casey (who? ). Lex Luger beating THE BLACKMAILER (what? ! ). In an NWA Unites States Tag Team Championship match you've got The Varsity Club beating The Fantastics in a good match (even though I'm pretty consistently bored by Mike Rotunda). Next up you have the awesome Ricky Steamboat beating some schlub named Bob Bradley. Meh. Rick Steiner beat Rip Morgan. And then you have the unique match of Tenryu and the Road Warriors vs. Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda, and Steve Williams that ends by double disqualification. Again, weird event overall. There seemed to be a lot of filler."
