[7.0] "The best Starrcade since the inaugural edition and very important show because of first Starrcade match of Sting and Rick Steiner. Better late than never, JCP-NWA found here a fresh and good structure of the show, similar to the modern WWE PLEs. It's no more supercard as the attempt of showcasing the whole roster, but a supercard filled with important bouts only. The only flaws there are the Skywalkers match and a bunch of clunky finishes and ref bumps (also reminds of our days WWE). Absolutely intense battle between Flair and Ron Garvin in the finale. The production quality became a whole lot better, but it's still not very close to Vince's. Starrcade '87 is also the supercard-debut for legendary JR, but he can't completely help the overall commentary level because of early days Schiavone. 7/10"

[5.0] "An average show on the whole, as there are no really outstanding matches, and some don't really belong on this card. Above all, this Starrcade 1987, although a little shorter than its predecessors, is not very digestible as it accumulates matches without out-of-ring segments and with a contextualization close to nothing. Quite a pity, as it wasn't unusual to have a few clips to justify the matches beforehand, or at least a few more explanations and angles outside the matches. Furthermore, the stipulations are not always well used and the whole leaves a rather bland taste, especially as there were some interesting wrestlers on paper. In-ring quality: 2.75/5. Non-match angles and segments: 0./3. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 4.75/10. Show seen on WWE Network."

At least it was a watchable show at 2.5 hours so even when matches were not extremely exciting, it did not feel like torture to watch the event in one session. My favorite matches were the Tag Title Match (minus the finish) and the Main Event which was also match of the night."

[7.0] "Another great show with a couple of very good matches. Apart from Williams vs Windham that suffered from a dull finish everything here was pretty enjoyable and there was a lot that they young wrestlers could learn from. The opener was very good with the babyfaces creating one of the most charismatic teams possible, the Rock 'n' Roll vs Midnight made me groan that it was a Scaffold Match, but I gotta give them credit where it's due that they executed the stipulation very well, while Koloff vs Taylor had a decent pace and another impressive powerhouse performance from Nikita. Arn & Tully vs The Road Warriors was another great match here, this time with the heels bumping for the babyfaces like crazy and making Animal with Hawk look phenomenal, Dusty vs Lex had a good beginning and ending, but the middle part was so so, while Garvin vs Flair was fantastic with Ronnie really delivering in the main event environment. He got a mixed reaction from the crowd, but it only created a unique atmosphere, which was nice, as the quality of the bout didn't suffer and ended the show on a very good note."

[6.0] "A show of two halves, for me. The first half is kind of weak, not awful but not great. Scaffold match is definitely a waste of some of their best wrestlers. The back half is great though, the last three matches ruled. Dusty vs. Luger extremely underrated, excellent match, and the other two big title matches are even better."

[6.0] "The show had a couple of lulls here and there (with Dusty vs. Luger being the low point), but was mostly a good night of wrestling. There is nothing truly remarkable but at the very least the tag titles and world title matches and well worth watching for fans of 80s wrestling. There are a couple underwhelming finishes on the show, but nothing that ruined the event for me, and at only around 2 1/2 hours the show didn't outstay its welcome either. If you struggle to enjoy older wrestling then this show isn't going to change your mind, but fans of the era should have a good enough time here."

The vibe off the crowd in Chicago is really weird at times in this show; but this wasn't necessarily a top market for JCP. Some interesting booking happens on this show as well. There are some good matches on this show though."

Not in terms of the in-ring action, but of the featured players, as I can imagine everyone in this promotion was getting stale at this point. The in-ring action was fine, but I have issues with the presentation."

[6.0] "Actually a far from bad show. It was pretty decent, in fact. Nikita/Taylor, the tag title match and the main event were all quality bouts. Apart from that, everything was at least watchable outside of the dreadful Dusty/Luger cage match."
JokerDeSilva wrote on 24.11.2020:
[6.0] "All in all, a passable but unexciting card. Nothing was truly bad, but nothing was really good, either. It's hard to even want to dive in and discuss the matches bit by bit, as they all sort of blend together into a melange of NWA brawling for the most part. The PPV debuts of Sting, Rick Steiner and Lex Luger are certainly newsworthy, and seeing Ric Flair win a championship in a cage match is a delight, as is seeing something so perfectly classic and defining as the Road Warriors vs the Four Horsemen for the NWA tag team titles, but a lot of the good here is based more on reputation and symbolism than actual in-ring work or storytelling. Ultimately, it's fine, and you're not going to be upset if you sit down and watch Starrcade 87, but you're not really going to be blown away, either."

[5.0] "Started off well. Hayes was a master at getting babyface heat at the time. Dissapointing finish to the match however. Nothing special in the next match. Although the scaffold match is the worst stipulation of all time, I thought this match was a good brawl and exactly what a scaffold match hold be. Koloff was good for his lack of experience and put on a good match. Brainbuster as they go on to be known vs the Road Warriors didn't live up to my expectations, good match nonetheless. Rhodes vs Luger was unbearably boring. Ruined the show in many ways for me. The main event was a good match but the last match killed me and I didn't like the finish."

[5.0] "There was real stinkers on this show. Luger/Dusty, Nikita Koloff/Terry Taylor and Dr Death/Windham. All one star matches (being generous)They really took away from the show. The rest was all pretty good. Nothing blow away. Then again, I didn? t expect any due to the event? s reputation. The main event was good but lacked heat in some crucial parts of it to get that extra level of excitement that was needed (***). The finish really took away from the Road Warriors vs Arn/Tully match but that was still MOTN by far (***1/4). Opener was decent enough (***). I expected to hate the scaffold match but it turned out to be quite an enjoyable experience. (***1/4). 5/10"

Steve Williams vs. Barry Windham - 7/10 Ricky Morton/Robert Gibson vs. Bobby Eaton/Stan Lane - 8/10 Nikita Koloff vs. Terry Taylor - 8/10 - Really impressed with Nikita Koloff by this point. He was kind of a forgettable heel but started really improving at this point. Taylor is underrated. Arn Anderson/Tully Blanchard vs. Hawk/Animal - 7/10 Dusty Rhodes vs. Lex Luger - 7/10 Ric Flair vs. Ronnie Garvin - 10/10... One of my favorite matches off all time. Violent and exciting through and through."

[6.0] "The event has better introduction and stage than the years before. The six men tag is a nice way to start, everything works fine and the time limit makes you want more from them (also first Starrcade for Sting). The rest of the undercard has nothing memorable and the four title matches that close the event are okay (from ** to *** stars), with an exception for Luger vs Rhodes, a really boring match. Flair vs Garvin is enjoyable, classic *** stars match with a stupid way to finish it. Acceptable."
