However, his work in ROH highlights a common issue: he was simply too green for the roles he was being given. He lacked polish in the ring and was thrust into major storylines far too early, which only magnified his weaknesses. Beyond his in-ring ability, Payne struggled to project a distinct personality or charisma, leaving him largely forgettable in major angles. His later American Psycho gimmick, used in smaller promotions, showed that he was capable of more when in the right environment and given a focused character."
