The only real saving grace was the excellent commentary from Mick Foley and Kevin Gill, whose wit and enthusiasm added some much-needed life to an otherwise lifeless show. Much of the card featured aging wrestlers who should have long since retired, while the few performers still capable of delivering were wasted in meaningless multi-man matches. The tag team bout between the two Express teams was particularly embarrassing, with Bobby Eaton visibly unfit to compete, and the Battle Royal was an outright disaster, which was highlighted by Viscera's inability to eliminate himself properly. The brief ECW-style match and the two main events provided slight relief, with the closing brawl at least delivering some chaotic fun. Still, this was a tedious and disappointing show overall, serving more as a sad nostalgia trip than a legitimate wrestling event. |

| 3 | 27.07.2025 | DanTalksRasslin | 2.0 | JCW's legends show certainly had a respectful tone toward wrestling's past, and there were some fun ideas behind some of the matches - an ECW reunion match, a Memphis reunion match, an NWO vs DX "dream match, " etc. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot to most of the action, as the age and conditions of many of the competitors kept many of the matches extremely short and basic. The battle royal was kind of fun, and the ECW seven-way match was a brief taste of classic hardcore mayhem (but, with its four-minute runtime, had too many participants to really be anything great). Nash & X-Pac vs New Age Outlaws was probably the best standard match of the night, but didn't really rise up to its "dream match" billing. On the positive side, the commentary from Kevin Gill and Mick Foley was pretty entertaining. It's not "Heroes of Wrestling" bad, but there's ultimately not much to recommend here - these types of "legends" events always seem to work better on paper than in practice. The show is historically notable for featuring the last matches of Roddy Piper, Ken Patera and Austin Idol, the last standard match of Mick Foley (who would be in the following year's Royal Rumble) and the last singles match of Bob Backlund (who would work two six-man tags in Japan in 2018). |

Add to that the grating voice of Kevin Gill on commentary and you've got an all-timer of suck. |

Watching this show without the commentary would be 10x worse, I'm serious. There are no highlights whatsoever here in terms of the in-ring portion of the show. Terry Funk's promo about cat poop and horse breeding is.. entertaining? Plus the stuff he said at the end about piper while talking at the booth seemed like a shoot, either that or it was very well worked from Terry. |

Aber es sollte schlimmer werden. Die Battle Royal sieht zwar ein paar Leute die noch ganz gut in Form sind aber die meisten sind völlig neben der Spur, kriegen am Kommentatorentisch kaum einen geraden Satz raus ( ich würde mal gerne wissen welcher Prozentsatz da betrunken war) und die ganze Sache mit Gowens Bein ist nur Kopfschütteldauerschleife. Apropos: Was hat Terry Funk bitte intus an diesem Abend? Beginnend hier und dann später im ME redet er nur Unsinn. Der Rock´n Roll Express kann heute noch ganz gut worken und ausgerechnet sie bekommen dann so ein kurzes Match. Genauso ist es im Anschluss bei dem ECW Match. Das ist klar das MOTN und hier hat man halt auch Leute, die noch was können, aber sie bekommen nicht mal vier Minuten. Aber dafür bekommen Backlund und Patera dann 6 Minuten die einfach mal nichts machen und sich kaum bewegen. Das Five Way Match danach ist nicht viel besser und das beste hier dran ist, dass es so schnell vorbei ist. Das gleiche gilt für Tracy Smothers gegen Tommy Rich, welches jedoch mit dem Finish selbst in der kurzen Zeit noch was versaut. Generell muss man sich fragen: Kann hier ein Match auch mal ein gutes Finish haben. Das Tag Match im Co ME ist zumindest nicht so schlecht wie der Rest aber wie betrunken wirkt hier Hall und wie high X-Pac? Das ME ist dann Teil 2 der Terry Funk Beleidigungsshow gefolgt von Altherrengebrawle. Ich weiß viele erwähnen Mick Foley positiv und manche Sachen die er zu den Matches sagt sind unterhaltsam aber es ist einfach viel zu viel. Diese Show dauert 2 einhalb Stunden wovon die Matchzeit gerade mal 56:57 ausmacht. Das ist mir eine Talkshow als eine Wrestlingshow. Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass ich das einmal sage aber diese Show ist tatsächlich auf einem Niveau mit Heroes of Wrestling und deswegen 0 Punkte wert. Einfach von vorne bis hinten katastrophal. |

Obviously The Gathering is a party atmosphere so it's not surprising to see some drunk wrestlers, but there are a staggering amount of very fucked up wrestlers on this show. A drunk Terry Funk cuts the weirdest promo of his career. Every finish to every match was bad. The only enjoying aspect of this show is the sheer absurdity of it all. It can be fun to watch if you enjoy bad wrestling, but if you want to see legends reliving their glory years, this is a HORRIBLE start. |

Ansonsten hat man hier viele alte Leute zu sehen bekommen die schon lange nicht mehr in einen Ring gehören bzw. die Leute die noch gut waren steckte man in sinnlose Multi-Men-Matches. Höhepunkt der Frechheit war das Tag Team Match zwischen den beiden Express Teams. Eaton war wohl zu voll um zu wrestlen. Auch die Battle Royal war eine bodenlose Frechheit weil es der gute Viscera nicht schafft sich aus dem Ring zu werfen. In Ordnung gingen eigentlich nur das ECW Match, das aber mit gerade mal 4 Minuten viel zu kurz war, und die beiden Main Events. Zumindest das letzte Match war ein netter Brawl zwischen den vieren. Nochmal brauche ich solch eine Veranstaltung allerdings nicht. Aber trotzdem war es schön viele alte Helden noch einmal zu sehen! |

Freunde der Nostalgie können sich diese Show aber trotzdem mal angucken, denn es ist schon interessant, die ganzen Leute von "damals" wieder aktiv im Ring zu sehen. Die MVPs des PPVs sind aber (wie schon von einem Vorredner erwähnt) Mick Foley und sein Co-Kommentator, die es wirklich verstehen, das teilweise grenzwertige Getue im Ring absolut unterhaltsam zu verpacken. |

Natürlich war die Qualität der - klugerweise sehr kurz gehaltenen - Matches im negativen Bereich und hin & wieder musste ich mich fremdschämen (z. B. als Viscera 3 Anläufe brauchte, um sich selbst aus der Battle Royal zu eliminieren oder wegen Bobby Eaton, der kaum geradeaus laufen konnte). Aber man durfte sowieso nicht mehr als Nostalgie erwarten. Endlich mal wieder den originalen Doink Matt Borne sehen, die ECW-Leute (wobei Sabu inzwischen aussieht wie sein ehemaliger Manager Lou Alfonso), das Wolfpac gegen die New Age Outlaws ... eine schöne Card, die eben ihre Höhepunkte beim Einzug der Leute hatte. Aufgewertet hat das Ganze außerdem Mick Foleys Kommentar voller (Selbst-)ironie, der fast Howard-Stern-Qualität hatte: Ich wollte wissen, was er bloß als nächstes sagen wird. |
