"This will be a straight-edge intervention"

CM Punk "Tonight I'm gonna do for you people something, somebody who loves you should have done a long, lont time ago. Because I know that you are all sick. I know that you are all helpless. So I'm gonna help you in the form of an intervention. However, it's not jot just any, this will be a straight-edge intervention. Now, the first step to recovery for people like yourselves is a confession. You simply need to stop lying to yourself and you need to say to yourself: I HAVE A PROBLEM. What I want is for everybody to stand up. Now stand up. Ladies and gentlemen at home, if you feel the need to put your hand on the television screen you go right ahead and do that. But I need everybody in this arena and around the world right now to stand up and admit that you are all addicts. [Buhrufe] That sounds like denial. You are all addicts. [Buhrufe] Normally addicts don't have any idea they have an addiction or they have a problem. You people are in denial. You are in denial of the fact you are weak, You are in denial of the fact you are powerless - all of you are in denial that you people are NOTHING without your substances that control your mind and whither away at your body. But don't worry, I'm about to teach you all how to survive.

You all recognize it? Take a look at it. It's a carton of cigarettes. But how many of you realize the dangers of inhaling cigarette-smoke? Obviously not a lot of you, I mean you probably don't even recognize the fact that the surgeon general has printed a warning label on every pack that you buy. And trust me: The surgeon general knows a lot more about this stuff than you do. It says here, in plain English: 'Caution, cigarettes may cause a slow and painful death.' Even with a waring label like that you people - day-in and day-out purchase and inhale poison. You might as well be throwing your lungs in the garbage. But tonight, tonight, we throw these in the garbage. And pay close attention, because this is how you survive.

[Punk wirft die Zigaretten in eine Mülltonne und wendet sich dem zweiten Eimer zu. Darunter ist eine Box mit Tabletten.]

What we have here is you typical bottle of prescription-medication. And you people hide behind a prescription and a doctor and you eat these pills like they were candy. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This is not candy; what this is, is failure in a bottle. Every time you take one of those pills, you are succumbing to your own addictions. You are giving up. You are failing at life! Now, every one of these comes with a label as well. But it should be printed on every individual pill and it should say: 'Take only as prescribed.' Which I know is hard for you people to understand seeing as you're all probably under the influence right now. He then procedes to open the bottle and dump the pills in the trash can. What you all need to do is look inside yourself and find the straight-edge in you. Pay attention!

Simply by your reaction, I can tell that this controls your life. How sad! How many of you would like to see me take a big gulp of this bottle right now? [Jubel] You make me so ill. That is NEVER going to happen. However, I can imagine all of you here in the arena tonight have partaken in this liquid hell. But you all need to be responsible for your actions. What is in this bottle is poison. It shouldn't just come with a warning label, it should come with a hazard symbol. This eats away at your insides and it ruins your relationships. This - THIS - is the worst of them all. Ladies and gentlemen, when you drink this, you are poisoning yourself. And just like this bottle of whisky, your life is going down the drain.
