[5.0] "The Main Event Mafia was a really good idea on paper, but in usual TNA fashion at this time, the booking ruined them, as they never faced a real comeuppance from any of the TNA originals, and one of the former members, Sting, was the one who dethroned Angle instead of AJ, who should have been the one to do it. Also, having Samoa Joe join the group was really bad, as he was a TNA original and probably Angle's biggest rival before the turn. MEM gets a 5 because it is still better than the Aces and Eights and miles better than Immortal."

Allowed fan favourites who were out of favour with the WWE to have some notable title reigns towards the end of their careers, they even introduced a new championship (the TNA Legends Championship) in order to do so, which I think is preferably to them making Nash the X Division Champion in 2009. They took up a lot of television time but Sting and Angle always did while Booker T was fresh of WWE TV where he had been both World Champion and King of the Ring in the recent past and it's not like the MEM never put anyone over."

It seemed like the on screen incarnation of TNA's real problem, putting former stars at the top of the card instead of focusing on the newer and more exciting wrestlers. The Angle/Sting power struggle was annoying and the stables expansion beyond the original 5 members made the group so much worse."

I wanted to see non-WWE guys like AJ, Aries, or Daniels. But TNA didn't want to give us that, which is a big reason why the company ultimately failed. Main Event Mafia was a representation of everything I DIDN'T want from TNA."

All it did was highlight one of TNA's legitimate problems, that they focused way too much on continuing to put over veterans whose time had come and gone instead of creating new stars. This could have worked if Kurt and Sting were the only people being pushed and the others were just outside enforcers but they weren't. They also had no legitimate enemies and having Joe joined made absolutely no sense."
