[6.0] "Johnny Gargano's best described as a small but skilled indie stud who looks ready to make the transition from the indie scene and into the WWE. Coming out of his native Ohio, USA (where he wrestled and was champion for the likes of AIW, PRIME, and IWC), Gargano began attracting interest from the likes of the WWE, ROH, and CHIKARA relatively early on in his career. Though Gargano would ultimately find himself wrestling for CHIKARA on a regular basis (even earning their Campeonatos de Parejas Championship twice with Chuck Taylor as part of Team FIST), it would be his accomplishments with Dragon Gate and the WWN that would ultimately set him apart - where he was a long-reigning Open The Freedom Gate Champion and managed to compete regularly on both sides of the Pacific (in addition, he won the DG-USA Open The United Gate (Tag) Championship with Rich Swann as Ronin. ) While Gargano is still at the forefront of WWN, he's been appearing for WWE's NXT and may be close to signing a WWE-exclusive deal. Gargano may need to add more bulk to appeal to the WWE brass, but he has the skill to carry himself effectively."

[5.0] "If this was 2013 or early-to-mid 2014, I probably would've given Johnny Gargano a 7, 8 or maybe even a 9. BUT this is 2015, and I won't do that. First of all, I thought Johnny G's DGUSA heel run was quite brilliant. He had many good and even great matches, did some good character work and cut some good promos, but ever since that heel run ended, he hasn't been quite the same. I haven't been following his EVOLVE stuff that much, but in PWG, he really hasn't been impressive. He just isn't a very good babyface in my opinion. Just one of those guys who work better as a heel."

[9.0] "Gargano has shown over the last five years+ that he is one of the most versatile wrestlers on the indies right now. He can wrestle well in big main events, on the midcard, in tag team matches, in big brawls, in technical contests, in fast paced matches. One can see a lot of influence from many great names of the past on the indies including the likes of AJ Styles/Alex Shelley/Austin Aries/Bryan Danielson/Tyler Black in Gargano's game and he still excels bringing his own influence to the game. He can only improve. One of the most entertaining wrestlers on the modern indies today."

[8.0] "Johnny Gargano is a great wrestler. He SHOULD NOT have held the DGUSA title for as long as he did but regardless he is very funny, skilled striker, awesome speed wrestler who also has many technical gifts. He is smooth and fluid and an absolute delight to watch. A young Chris Jericho, some believe."

Paul Allain wrote on 30.12.2013:
[6.0] "Johnny Gargano works for a wide variety of wrestling promotions (AIW, Evolve, DGUSA, PWG, Chikara, etc... ). While he knows how to wrestle well, he seems to get an enormous amount of opportunities to mitigating results. He had extensive runs as champion in promotions (DGUSA, AIW, Chikara) over other talents, but provided formulaic matches, if action-packed, and really shoddy and drawn-out long repetitive promos. More sizzle than steak, he can add something to a wrestling show, but at the level of the numerous high-profile positions he is given."
TheMemoryMaker wrote on 10.10.2013:
[9.0] "Johnny Gargano is one of the best up-and-coming wrestlers in the world today. There are flaws in his game, as there are in every wrestler's, but every time I see Gargano wrestle he's making improvements. Both as a technician and a character, Gargano is the real deal."
