Gabe Sapolsky

[10.0] "I'm probably biased because 2005-2008 ROH is one of my favorite periods for wrestling, but beyond that, look at his impeccable track record. Nearly every big name currently in the business has worked for Sapolsky at some point in their careers. I think I gained a lot more respect for him after hearing his shoot interviews with Kayfabe Commentaries (the Book of ROH Secrets one specifically, but also the Next Evolution series) where I learned he wasn't just a booker with a great mind for the business, but also a mentor who gave advice and guided so many wrestlers along the way. I used to think much of his success was due to luck and having so many talented workers to build around, but then I realized those workers became so talented partly due to Gabe's guidance. To use a basketball analogy, Michael Jordan was always a great player, but he didn't win a championship until he had Phil Jackson as his coach. Gabe Sapolsky is the Phil Jackson of wrestling."

[8.0] "ROH's first and by far best booker, Gabe has his faults, but his creative acumen is usually very good."

[7.0] "Most bookers probably manage at most 5 years at the top of their game before they just burn out. There was a reason they'd change it up a lot in the territorial days. Ultimately Gabe has been at it too without an extended break and that's too his detriment, but the fact remains that his 5 years on the top of ROH produced the best indy wrestling company since ECW became big enough to no longer be regarded as just an indy. He generally booked well towards the tastes of the DVD buying fan who'd consume the product, the perfect example being The Prophecy and the refusal to abide by The Code of Honor. A silly idea but one that quickly established the lead heels and a reason to book them. The ROH side of the CZW vs ROH feud was easily the best interpromotional feud for a couple of decades at least, it was incredibly heated, produced some great matches, great moments, furthered the companies other stories (Homicide vs Cornette & chasing the title, the story of '06, American Dragon, using it to finally bring in Hero, and also build up Claudio more, and the blow off match was just tremendous. On the other hand, all that said, he's a terrible commentator, and watching old ROH as I am, I just feel mad at whoever decided to put Gabe in the booth."
