[7.0] "The late great Akebono. More adept and imposing in the ring than he's often given credit for (thanks to his limited American work) and he could put on enjoyable matches when motivated. I have to admit that his death has continued to upset me over the last few months, as he seemed like a figure almost impervious to death."

ChopChopChop wrote on 06.03.2023:
[6.0] "Since he wrestled in Japan a lot of people expected him to turn into a best bout machine (forgetting that he is a 450lbs sumo-wrestler after all). He was credible, powerful and had an imposing presence. That gets the job done."
Strong Zero Machine wrote on 22.02.2023:
[6.0] "Akebono isn't the best worker ever but considered his background, age, weight and size he's a perfect superheavyweight monster with some speed and agility less than his partner Hama but style good and with his popularity as one of the best Yokozuna in modern era it's easy to enderstand why AJPW push him like this."

Shadow Explosion wrote on 17.06.2022:

ElPolloLoco wrote on 24.10.2019:
[5.0] "As far as big celebrities go in pro-wrestling Akebono was one of the best ones if not the best in the ring. Sadly that doesn't make him anywhere near "good": he was pretty bad all around and as sumo is not kind on the body he was already pretty beaten up by the time he debuted on Smackdown. However I have to say I really liked his "family" angle with Muto and Yinling in HUSTLE: as idiotic as the whole thing was everybody involved was obviously having so much fun it was impossible not to laugh. Great Muta hugging Monster Bono is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in pro-wrestling. And I cannot really blast a guy who made me laugh so much no matter how bad he was in the ring."

[4.0] "As a former sumo, one could assume from that alone would make Akebono servery limited (although other examples can easily disprove this), however I would like give him his due, he could work a match... just not all of the time and even then not to the highest quality either. Large but not intimidating, slow but not monstrous, a previous athletic background but gassed out quickly, there were plenty missing from what I would look for a giant. Instead he has best utilised as part of a face tag team, as the large wall for weaker heels to bounce off between exchanges with his more agile partner (this was even the case when teaming with fellow sumo Hama, who CAN go) or in slower storyline based matches, which I cannot deny were entertaining. Further more he was over with the Japanese crowds, so he was clearly doing something right, even if I cannot fully find what that was."

Ma Stump Puller wrote on 09.05.2016:
[8.0] "Akebono is great at what he is good at- being a big dude and looking powerful. His match with Big Show at Wrestlemania was a classic. Better than a majority of big people in the wrestling and his done lots of great things outside and inside the ring."
Super Mastodon wrote on 14.03.2016:
[5.0] "In terms of sumo wrestling then Akebono gets a quick 10 from me! But we're talking about pro wrestling here, while he isn't all that bad as a lot of people who criticize him, he's not really that good either. I'd say the best way to describe him is "decent. ""
