[10.0] "One of my favourite commentators in wrestling history, for being to able to call any type of match with the same amount of quality. Whether it's a technical affair, with Styles educating the viewing audience with the different array of moves wrestlers bust out, or in hardcore matches with his iconic 'OH MY GOOOOD' call, Styles had it all. Even in WWECW, which was strongly neutered compared to the original, and additionally Vince McMahon's infamous micro-managing of commentary backstage, Styles still did a great job on commentary and had some amazing chemistry with Tazz, and even on RAW, bringing some life to the main roster with his signature calls. I don't say this much, but people can learn a thing or two from the way Styles calls the action."

His squealing could get very obnoxious and when there's no one to play off it or go in another direction, it's made that much worse. He was a lot better with Taz or anyone else there to work with him."

[7.0] "I don't really like his style of commentary, although that could certainly be because I didn't grow up watching classic ECW so I'm just not used to him and his commentating habits. I will, however give him a higher rating because he was an overwhelming amount of times commentating the entirety of a show alone, and considering that a large chunk of commentary in wrestling typically depends on the interactions between two or more commentators, Joey Styles did the best he could, and even though I don't enjoy it too much, for an audience that watched ECW more for the action than any sort of storylines, I guess he was pretty much a perfect fit."

[1.0] "While decent in his early ECW work as things went on he became a soundboard. I never got a lot of Joey's praise, I found his voice piercing after a certain amount of time. I think a lot of his praise comes from his loyalty to ECW which is like being a loyal spouse to Ric Flair, you are a fool. Joey in the WWE proved infact he was not good enough to call Backlash or even wrestling in general, as he was demoted to a behind the scenes role working on WWE.com which to be honest he was quite good at. If you do not think I am at all being fair that's fine, but I would irk you to watch Chikara King of Trios 2016 where Joey is completely overshadowed on commentary by Bryce Remsburg (who is a referee), while he often has to be educated on the product he was paid to commentate. I think his exodus from pro wrestling was unfair, but Gabe Sapolsky is a people pleasing worm afraid of confrontation so I wasn't suprised. I can hardly feel bad for Joey Styles though especially considering how he constantly smeared Mike Awesome as an untrustworthy and two-faced man every chance he got, due to his departure from ECW, even uttering the disgusting and in hindsight sadly foreshadowing line of "Suicide Dive by Mike Awesome, and it's a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life", I don't understand what would ever make you say that, kayfabe be damned. Keep in mind, that was all over the fact Paul Heyman went against his own word and contract. I think that and my other comments give a fair reasoning to my rating."

[8.0] "I'll give him a 8. His commentary is by far my favorite. He makes some of the lesser WWECW matches have a little bit to them. He is what I think a commentator should be. His Oh My God! catchphrase is very good and feels genuine. I like that some of the things in the ring gross him out and scare him. This puts him at a parallel with the home viewing audience that is rather refreshing. His calling is very clean and he has fewer mic slips than a lot of the other commentators, though it does happen. I will dock him for his joke that led to his firing. He should never have said that and at this point in his career I fell as though he should have known better. Overall, I would say that on the commentary side of things Joey Styles is the top."

[8.0] "Joey Styles could make a match between Omos and Giant Gonzalez sound like a 5-star classic, the man had such a manic crackhead energy that is severly missed in today's modern commentary style. It's a shame that his career ended the way it did, I.E., saying something really stupid at an EVOLVE show and subsequently vanishing from the wrestling industry, but that shouldn't take away from his status as the voice of all things hardcore."

[9.0] "More often than not Joey Styles did the job of an entire commentary team on his own in ECW. Calling it play by play/move by move, putting over the stars and cursing the heels, plugging merchandise and recapping feuds and all without ever sounding exasperated or out of breath. Joey's charm was in his endearing and almost dorky nature, he came off as a fan of the product in front of him and his shrill exclamations (OH MY GAAWWDD) only helped to add to the beautiful chaos that was ECW. His later work on commentary with Cyrus the Virus, (with Cyrus playing the acidic, gaslighting, sardonic heel) is definitely an underrated pairing and was oftentimes hilarious. The two played wonderfully off each other, and Joey stands as one of my personal favorite commentators."

[10.0] "One of my favourite wrestling commentators. His famous "OH MY GAWD" was his signature line and it was perfect for ECW's hardcore style. I also loved his promo, when he announced he quits WWE. He admitted he cannot stand all this PG bullshit and calling wrestling an "entertainment". He was really dedicated to job and he did it perfect."

[10.0] "OH MY GAWD! Not only the voice of ECW, but also a huge ECW fan, which made him so endearing. Would love to see Joey back in the announce booth. Poor announcing can ruin a promotion before it even begins, but Joey took ECW to another level with his knowledge and enthusiasm."

"He may be nothing more than a fantastic iconic voice who showed a lot of excitement, but he also showed we really don't need much more. His commentary actually adds to the moments and matches, rather than watering it down with unnecessary information. Instead of distracting from the actual story with a forced color commentator gimmick, he just representing the fan he is. In my opinion one of the best commentators!"

[6.0] "I think Joey is looked back on a little more fondly than what is deserved. I remember when I first discovered ECW & I heard him on commentary, I was less than impressed. Call move..... five seconds of silence...... call another move. I think he improved as time went on & he seemed to develop more of a personality. His "oh my god! " and "catfight! " exclamations are iconic at this point. As basic as those calls are, Joey's vocal range turned them into more than what they ever deserved to be, so he gets some points there. By the time he got to WWE I found that he improved immensely & I was actually really enjoying him in the booth. But I think Vince constantly in his ear made him (understandably) hate the job, so he never lasted long there."

Not as good as J. R. , but good enough to be considered the second best Play by Play guy in wrestling. OH MY GOD!"

[9.0] "Elsewhere on this site, I've said that Jim Ross is the greatest play by play announcer of his generation (a feeling generally shared among my fellow wrestling fans and people involved in the sport. ) I've also said that, trailing directly behind him in that category is Mike Tenay (a feeling not so widely shared. ) The reason I don't put Joey Styles in the #2 spot behind J. R. is not because I don't think he's a talented commentator-he is. It's because, in ECW, he wasn't JUST a play-by-play guy. He was the color guy too. He made every match he called worth watching all by himself. He didn't need help from anyone (although unfortunately he got it later on. ) He's in a special category all his own, because nobody has been a one man announce team before him, and no one's even tried since."
