"After Stu Hart, Tony Condello has been the longest running promoter in western Canada with more than 40 years in the businees. Condello was born in Italy but he migrated to Canada at an early age. While he lived in Winnipeg he was involved in amateur wrestling before he tried his hand in the professional variant of the sport. He got his start with the Westbrook Wrestling Club in September of 1960. Later he began working for the American Wrestling Association as a wrestler and referee. In 1972 Condello sought to secure the job as the local representative for the AWA in Winnipeg but failed to secure the position. Rumor has it that Al Tomko, who at the time was the AWA agent in Winnpeg, learned of Tony Condello's aspirations and contacted AWA owner Verne Gagne and told him that Tony Condello had connections to a crime syndicate in Montreal (which is false). Condello then started his own promotion. West Four Matchmakers in 1973. The promotion later on became West Four Wrestling Alliance and in the 1990es the International Wrestling Alliance.
