Dick Slater

[8.0] "Perhaps THE embodiment of the Southern style heel rassler overall. Fit in well everywhere he went except the WWF, that didn't work whatsoever. One of those guys who based their stuff on realism. I liked how he would pepper his brawling with some scientific skill, made for a more compelling/credible in ring heel. Strong promo but had the terrible habit of looking at himself in the moniter. Excellent team player, loved The Stud Stable, the tag team with Greg Valentine was rather great/underrated. The only things I didn't care much for was "The Hardliners" team. I like Dick alot 7.5"

[8.0] "From what I saw of him he was a good rassler, he Could cut a compelling promo and managed to draw a good amount of heat. He worked a lot of territories and was succesful in all of them, really believable offense and a good character, surely inspired by terry Funk."

[5.0] "Saw some of his stuff from the 80's and he was pretty good at the traditional wrestling stuff. By the time he got to WCW in the mid 90's he was mostly doing the punch and kick southern brawler stuff with Bunkhouse Buck."

[8.0] "Dick Slater was a really good southern style wrestler. But, as I watch him, he definitely was a Terry Funk wannabe for sure."

[8.0] "That southern wrestling style can be embodied in the form of Dick Slater. Definitely more of a tag wrestler, his singles ability left much to be desired but the look of him was so unique, I really wanted that shirt. It's sad that he never got a chance to shine on Nitro, his big moments were on the previous year."

[7.0] "I guess I liked him more than I should have and I agree that now one ever bought a ticket or PPV because he was on the card. Good on the mic and a real life tough guy, who once shot Wahoo. If you missed him check out Willie Jay's Youtube series, The Glory Days of Pro Wrestling. His career was above average at best, in retrospect, despite me being a big fan."

[6.0] "Dick Slater in the the late 80's WWF and early 90's WCW was pretty mediocre. If you go back to his early 80's and mid 90's work it is a different story. Great on the mic, and adequate in the ring. Had some barn burners both with and against Dusty Rhodes and crew, He follows the same road map as Buzz Sawyer as you need to check out their entire life's work."

[6.0] "Dick Slater was a solid if unremarkable worker, but he was a very good talker. Slater's problem is that he often tried to be like Terry Funk, and he often ended up coming off like a cheap knockoff."

[6.0] "Another old school brawler who was aways a reliable midcard hand to have around. His best work was definitely in Mid South."

[4.0] "I have always thought Slater is vastly overrated. Sure he played the heel good during his time in Mid-South and even had a nice face run in Georgia but his in-ring work always left a lot to be desired. He just was a guy that should of been in the first two matches compared to being a main event guy in my book."

[7.0] "Slater would never be top of the card in a major promotion, but he was a solid mid card guy for more than 2 decades. The rating system here is a little flawed when every 190 pound high flyer working in front of 800 fans gets a 8 or 9 rating and a guy like slater is getting 4 and 5's. Slater would never crack a top 100 pwi spot, but he always had a job and was always someone the fans would give heat too."
