[4.0] "What a chore, my God. Four hours of nothing, perfectly in line with Verne's typical finishes. I guess he'd explode if he didn't try to overbook most endings - including his match against Sheik, where the big payoff was... a small package. Don't get me wrong, though. There were some genuinely good matches, with tag team wrestling leading the way. Rose & Somers vs The Rockers was great, Windham & Rotunda vs The Fabulous Ones was very good, and Hennig & Hall vs The Long Riders was a well-paced bout. Zumhofe vs Tiger Mask also stood out as something different from the rest of the card. Bockwinkel vs Hansen was a lot of fun, though it had a terrible finish, and Greg & Snuka vs Barbarian & Brody was a pretty solid match. But yeah, there were just too many matches to maintain consistent quality. The worst offenders were Baba vs Brown and Zbyszko vs LeDoux - plus most of the other matches, which, even if decent in terms of in-ring work, clearly had Verne's fingerprints all over them. And on top of that, this goddamn arena... The atmosphere was dreadful. If you can't fill a stadium, it just sucks. The crowd noise was barely audible, the fans didn't seem to have a good view most of the time, and the whole thing just looked empty. But of course, Verne had to prove to Vince who's the man - even though, in the end, he only embarrassed himself with both the setting and the show. Then again, WrestleMania II wasn't much better."

[4.0] "It's not very good on the whole. The stand out matches are also not of the highest quality, although compared to some of the stuff here, they compare very well indeed. I'm not familiar with much of the AWA, so interesting to see the difference between stars of tomorrow (in WWF) and stars of today such as Mr Perfect and Scott Hall compared to Harley Race and Brody."

[5.0] "This was a rough watch as evidenced by the fact it took me nearly 12 months to come back round and finish watching the show. Crap booking and a mostly dead crowd do not make this a fun show. I can still find enjoyment in classic shows so my overall show rating is higher than I gave any individual match."

[3.0] "So many bad finishes on this show. The boxing match ended in a friggin DQ. Kamala got disqualified. Harley Race had a DCO and then walked out of the company without taking a job. There are three cage matches at the end of the show and it's overkill. By the time it's over the crowd look exhausted. The writing is on the wall for Verne Gagne here. Completely clueless booking."

[6.0] "Really long event with a full star power, great roster, but some terrible endings and ideas. The card is amazing, the results aren't good. Still, it's impressive, I'm glad I've seen it, there are so many rarities like Tiger Mask vs Zumhofe and three solid Steel Cage matches. Also, it's full of patriottism, it's really a 80's representative."

[6.0] "The stars were out for this one, and there was some good in-ring action, particularly from the Bockwinkel vs. Hansen, Hall/Hennig vs. Long Riders, Rotunda/Windham vs. Fabulous Ones and Gagne/Snuka vs. Brody/Nord matches. The odd Zbyszko vs. LeDoux boxing/hybrid match ran a bit long, but was certainly better-worked and more fun to watch than the similar-concept WWF Brawl For All matches a decade later. The show did run a bit over-long and had some filler, though, and did rely a bit too much on DQ/countout finishes, but was solid enough for a "6" rating."
