[6.0] "This edition of Survivor Series is notable more for its historical significance than for its overall quality. It seems to mark a turning point for the WWF, setting the stage for the upcoming Attitude Era. From The Rock's debut to the Bret Hart/Steve Austin match to the crowd rejecting the company's good guy and cheering for the bad guy in the main event, it feels like the tide is turning. Taken on its own, the event is perfectly fine and goes by quickly, but it's not particularly remarkable, except for the outstanding Bret/Austin match."

[6.0] "It is kind of ironic, because the three Survivor Series matches on this card that the show is named after were pretty lackluster, while the three singles matches alongside them were all fantastic. The 1996 Survivor Series is definitely one of the more impactful Survivor Series, and is memorable for SO many reasons. Bret/Austin's classic, Sid ruling the world, Taker's entrance and the shark cage, the first PPV for both The Rock and Faarooq, the final PPV for Yokozuna, and more. There is a lot going on so even the subpar matches have a talking point to them. Not quite a 'best of all time' card, but an incredibly impressive one."

[8.0] "Well, even though they didn't have a interesting roster, from the events of 1996 this was probably the best, great matches, enjoyable, Bret vs Steve Austin was a prelude of what we saw later, and in general the event was a complete approve. 8/10"

This match and the Pillman angle a few weeks earlier feel like the true breakout moment for SCSA, and Sid was insanely over in a way that none were around this time until the Attitude Era. The classic Survivor Series tags are an afterthought and the booking shows it. But the three marquee singles matches hold their own while teasing things to come."

Why did we all of a sudden decide to just kill the match with some asinine trash fest that people have seen a million times over, on a PPV!"

[9.0] "This was a really strong Survivor Series show overall with several matches ranging from really good to being a straight up masterpiece. Bret Hart vs Austin is an absolute wrestling clinic and an essential match to watch. Sid vs Michaels is surprisingly great and one of Sid's best ever matches and also had a fantastic atmosphere with the crowd reactions. Undertaker v Mankind is really solid and the stipulation with Paul Bearer suspended above the ring was hilarious. The first Survivor Series Elimination match was good because of a strong debut from Furnas and LaFon establishing themselves as strong Tag Team Title contenders. The second one was decent too with The Rock debuting. The only bad match on the card was the dreadful third match which had one of the most ridiculous DQ's ever. It's up there with the very worst Survivor Series tag matches ever! That aside this was an awesome show overall with a lot of memorable moments."

[6.0] "Survivor Series shows are decent enough for me if they have decent Elimination Matches and this one checked these boxes here. The opener was pretty good with Furnas and LaFron absolutely stealing the show, although it made me wish that they had a normal Tag Team Match with Owen and Bulldog. Taker vs Mankind wasn't bad, but they didn't show anything new compared to their previous meetings. Another Elimination Match was also at the very satisfying level with some good mid-card workers and Rocky making an impressive debut. Hart vs Austin was easily the best match on the show and probably of the year, as they had incredible chemistry with each other and made it look like they called everything on the spot - phenomenal contest with Stone Cold looking stronger than ever even though he took the pin. Another Survivor Series Match was a mess with a finish that ruined everything, while the main event wasn't bad, but once again Michaels made a bigger opponent wrestle a technical match which didn't make sense. Shawn dominated Sid from the start and only later it changed, but the impression was ruined already. At least the crowd was fantastic here and the atmosphere saved this. Nice PPV overall."

[8.0] "Very strong show. Bret vs Austin was fantastic and Sid vs Shawn was a great big man vs little man match. Rocky and Furnas and LaFon all got very strong showings in their WWF debut matches. It was a very enjoyable PPV with two great, memorable matches. The rest of the show was solid as well, Taker vs Mankind was good and the first elimination match on the PPV was strong. Jim Ross was very irritable on this night, lashing out at McMahon, Sunny, and Cornette which was pretty funny. I have fond memories of this PPV as it's the first WWF PPV I ever saw live."

[6.0] "A subpar card lifted up by two good to great singles matches. Didn't watch the pre show match so it doesn't figure into my rating. The main card opener starts off a bit rough and not that great but it gets pretty good once its down to Hart/Bulldog and the Can Am express (6/10) Taker/Mankind is a solid match with a few good spots here and there, the Shark cage gimmick doesn't do much for me (6/10) The second elimination match too uninteresting to last 23 minutes nothing awful but no one is at their best, being still too new, past their prime, or never being that good to begin with (4/10) Bret and Austin have an awesome and heated technical match, a notch below the classic they would have at Mania 13 but still a must watch between the two (9/10) The third and last elimination match is awful Fake Razor and Fake Diesel are one of the worst gimmicks that hinder anything Bognar or Kane could try doing, Yokozuna was incredibly out of shape, and the DQ finish is pointless. Only good thing is Scorpio's high flying (1/10) The Main Event Delivers being the best Sid match I have seen he was super over and Shawn wrestled a high caliber bout as usual, Good use of shenanigans for the ending too (8/10)"

[6.0] "This is such interesting PPV to look back at with debuts in each elimination match, returning legends for nostalgia pops, Stone Cold really heating up, fake Razor and Diesel and Sid getting the title. WWF is fascinating around this period of time as they put the pieces together for what will be the attitude era."

[9.0] "I think this is one of the best survivor series you have a very good match with undertaker vs mankind, you then have a instant classic in bret hart vs steve austin, and you have a good main even match. To make it better you have the debut of the rock."
JakeR wrote on 12.07.2022:
[6.0] "Decent show. The survivor series matches really brought it down especially the last one. I enjoyed the feuds for the singles matches and they were placed between the survivor series matches so it made the show not too bad to watch. I even enjoyed Sid winning considering how ridiculously over he was for no reason. You can see the shows improving now in this time period and this one seems to be the start of that change."

[8.0] "The three survivor series matches were the worst parts of the show. the first one of them was the best out of the three, it was shitty to begin with but got better once the godwinns were out and put over the debutants in a nice fashion. the 2nd one is memorable only for the last 3 minutes where Rocky took on crush and goldust and pinned both of them to become the sole survivor. nice debut for him and the crowd got behind him as well however the run which followed this was really bad. The 3rd survivor series match which took place before the main event was quite possibly the worst survivor series match i have seen, i get that there were time issues but ending a survivor series match in a DQ. The 3 one on one matches made this show really great. Undertaker/Mankind is their worst match of the feud, but its still a pretty solid match to end the feud, both men came out looking strong. Bret/Austin is a 5 star classic which was great from start to the end , you could legit hear vince being amazed on commentary. Austin lost but looked strong. And the main event was a very good match as well, sid's best match easily. Great Show."

[6.0] "There were two great matches here and one almost-great one - the problem is none of them were the actual Survivor Series matches, which ranged from adequate to awful. The show is notable for being the Rock's first show and Yokozuna's last, but they are both in poor matches. Really, it's worth watching the singles matches and skipping the team ones."
BuddySchultz wrote on 26.03.2021:
[10.0] "One of my all-time favourite pay-per-views. Essentially every match has something to offer, even if the final elimination match has one of the worst finishes in Survivor Series history. But Flash Funk works his ass off in it, making sure he has a memorable debut, which is something also obtained by the excitement of young Rocky Maivia in match #3, and the versatile aptitude of Furnas and LaFon in the opener. But wrestling isn't all about history-making moments - the last two matches mentioned do offer in-ring quality, but such focus is stolen by the wrestling clinic of Bret Hart and Steve Austin's first match together, the heatedness of Shawn Michaels vs Sid, and the fun brawl of Undertaker vs Mankind, which sees the phenom use more 'wrestling' moves than one would expect."

[9.0] "A very enjoyable show, one of the best SS in history. First elimination match is good, Furnas and LaFon are awesome wrestlers. Undertaker vs Mankind is pretty good but their matches on other PPV's were better. Second Survivor Series match is pretty fun. Austin vs Hart is very underrated. Many people only remember thair match on WM but this was excellent too. Last traditional elimination match was very short and ending was stupid. Main event is very emotional. Fans cheered Sid even when he used camera to win the title. Michaels made Sid look good so the match was awesome."

[7.0] "There are at least two good matches. Bret Hart vs Steve Austin was brilliant, the main event a turning point for the federation. Also I had some fun watching Mankind vs The Undertaker. The rest of the card was bad, a Survivor Series match ends in Double DQ which is non-sense. Expect nothing from Rocky Maivia, it's not yet The Rock we used to know."
