[3.0] "This entire thing was a huge disappointment. Not a single match was more than just decent and a lot were much worse. I am not opposed to the idea of a single night tournament at Mania but not if it is held with 16 participants. It is just too much, matches were either too short or terrible in their own way. Savage had his big night here which is a positive to take away but anything else was super boring or annoying. Everything outside of the tournament was forgettable at best. I have not seen all Manias yet (I am working on it) but this is definitely the worst of those I have seen so far."

It was the night Randy Savage officially became a main event star and it kicked off what was a really fun year of drama between he and Hogan. Demolition also cemented the beginning of their legacy on this night as well with a super underrated tag title win against Strike Force (although the crown was dead for it). And let's not forget this was also the night that Bret Hart's star began to shine. I go back and watch this thing constantly. Love it."

After the third edition, Mania became the biggest show of the year and this is not in my mind a place where one wants to experiment. But Vince does. Absolutely inadequate championship tournament makes like all the matches of the show completely unmemorable. Even the rematch of Hulk and Andre. 3/10"

None of them really significantly distinguished from the other, whole tournament was just a one big cheap average meatball. One of the worst Wrestlemanias in history."

[2.0] "This show was tough to sit through. There are a handful of good matches somewhere in there, most notably Valentine/Steamboat, Valentine/Savage, the Tag Team Title match and the main event (all 5/10), but they are buried within an overbooked SIXTEEN match card that tired out the crowd, commentators and viewers. Besides the mentioned matches, a few others managed to be average, and the rest ranges from too short to worth mentioning or straight up bad. The idea of holding a tournament throughout a Wrestlemania sounds fun on paper, but the execution was simply bad. None the less, if you refuse to sit throughout the entire thing and just pick out some of the matches to watch, you are at least offered more than what Wrestlemania 2 had to offer. But because we have to rate the entire thing, which felt like it went on forever, it receives the same "Bad, waste of time" rating of 2/10."

[1.0] "This is a poorly reviewed WrestleMania, but I don't think people are harsh enough on it. A truly interminable, punishing show with sparing few rays of light. Despite how hot the company was at this time, even the crowd is somewhat mild for this show. That may have been due to hosting it in Trump's casino, though. On paper, the tournament format was an interesting idea. I do like that Savage had to go through four matches compared to DiBiase, who only wrestled three times, but I'm struggling for anything else. It goes on forever and I dreaded even having to watch it. I genuinely think it's one of the worst WWF/E shows of all time."

[0.0] "This show offends me on such a massive level. I've been watching every WWE PPV and this was the worst one so far. This was nonstop filler and garbage. The amount of DQ finishes, short meaningless matches, and horrible in ring work is astounding to me. The premise is cool, but having Wrestlemania be a tournament just doesn't work. Savage got his moment, but it happened in the worst Wrestlemania ever, and Hogan forced himself into the moment because of his ego. Speaking of Hogan, how dare you market Hogan and Andre when they only have a 5 minute trash fire that ENDS IN A DQ! This really deserves more hate than it receives. Horrible matches, watching it feels like dying via skin necrosis with how painfully slow it is, and the way these matches are booked is appalling. Pure trash."

I think the only match really worth watching is the main event for the crowning of Macho Man, and even then, Hogan's celebrating harder than the dude who just won the title. This whole show is a bloated, bad, overhyped tournament with barely any substance or story to it, and a stupid battle royal and a pear tree."

And even the final match itself, which was just alright, I think is a good moment for "Macho Man" Randy Savage to defeat Ted DiBiase and win the championship, however, it was soured by Hulk Hogan taking the spotlight. Overall, Wrestlemania IV was an incredibly poor event, at it's best it was just decent, which is all at the end, the rest of the event is just simply not worth your time. And as one last insult to injury, Donald Trump is sitting in the front row..."

But having the two biggest draws go out in the first round in 5 minutes just kills the enthusiasm right away. If Randy Savage wasn't one of the most charismatic people ever I would not have finished this show. Almost nothing else happens, and its not the fault of the wrestlers (for the most part). Most are given only 5 minutes to try to grab the fans attention and it never really happens. Even the main event goes under 10 minutes and ends with interference."

We had a few good matches but they were strangled by the myriad of shit in between and had too much time cut off to fit in the ridiculous amount of matches scheduled. This is also peak steroid era as everyone double dosed on the gas to look their best for this, and we ended up with a ton of guys blowing up after a couple of minutes in virtually every bout."

[1.0] "WrestleMania IV was by far the worst PPV I've watched so far in my time as a wrestling fan. I've never seen so many rotten matches on one card with no heat or excitement, and this made 3.5 hours feel like 7. The best match on this card was a half-baked version of what Steamboat and Valentine would be capable of, and almost every match on here is disastrous including the worst match I've watched thus far (Honky Tonk/Beefcake) and another all-time stinker (Warrior/Hercules). Nothing about this felt like WrestleMania; It felt like none of it mattered, even Hogan/Andre felt like nothing. I love Macho Man and was happy to see him win the big one but the main event didn't hold a candle to the SNME match Savage and DiBiase had a couple weeks prior. Not to mention the fact that the entire match was more focused on Hogan and Andre than the guys in the ring. The crowd was lackluster, and you can't blame them because this show was a pile of garbage."

[5.0] "I still think WrestleMania IV is a step forward in quality from the dismal lows of WM and WM2, but it also definitely feels like a clumsy fall backwards on its posterior from the surprisingly sturdy WM3. There are two huge annoyances with this show for me. The first is obvious: a million quick matches (just do the quarters/semis/final on the PPV portion, not the whole Round of 16, which could have been done during the buildup! ) and a resulting bloated runtime with few matches of actual importance in that runtime. The second one is that we pretty much have Donald Trump, my least favorite person on the planet, shoved down our throats over and over for the duration of that extended runtime. I don't blame the commentary crew for pimping Vince's buddy a little bit, considering his venue was hosting the event, but the constant references and veneration going on that happened roughly once or twice per match/segment really felt like it might have been a contractual obligation to stroke his ego. Pretty much the only good thing about the full-on Trump assault to the senses was that he helped inspire maybe the most nonsensical of all of Hogan's nonsense WWF promos, a true classic of surreal imagery and cocaine-driven yelling that will not soon be forgotten. We also have this creepy ongoing storyline with Bob Uecker stalking Vanna White all night that is nowhere near as funny or endearing as WWF seems to think that it is. Thankfully, Andre the Giant "choked" the crap out of him later, so I'll call it a fair trade. This was a PPV full of weird finishes and some truly odd and unsatisfying bookings (Steamboat not advancing just so Vince could keep the heel vs face match booking alignments? ). We did get to see Jimmy Hart get a "haircut" though, probably one of the only good things Beefcake did in his entire WWF run. If I can get serious for a moment, the main reason I'm giving this show an average rating and not a bad one is that Savage finally got his flowers after firmly establishing himself as the best blend of worker/character on the roster a couple years earlier and after the lamely booked ending to his tournament run from 1985's The Wrestling Classic PPV. His redemption and winning that gold was an epic, long time coming victory here. Speaking of epic, how great were the different color synchronized gear/costume changes that him and Elizabeth brought out to each tournament round match? The WWF in the 80's would have been so much weaker without Savage's presence, and this PPV's saving grace is that it finally put him over all the way to the top. Of course, Hogan still had to share the limelight in the final celebration, but we all knew that was coming."

[7.0] "WrestleMania IV exudes a sense of nostalgia unlike any other. The focal point of this event, the WWF Championship tournament, added an immense level of excitement and anticipation, making it feel truly monumental. The show kicked off with a bang with the battle royal, a fun and engaging way to start WrestleMania. The climax of this match, featuring Bad News Brown and Bret Hart, was particularly memorable and set the tone for the rest of the evening. One of the highlights of the night was witnessing Macho Man Randy Savage's journey to winning the WWF Championship. His path to victory was a compelling storyline that showcased his incredible talent, especially in the main event against Ted DiBiase. Savage's triumph was a defining moment that cemented his legacy in wrestling history. The Ultimate Warrior's WrestleMania debut added another layer of excitement to the event. His iconic blue look and high-energy performance captivated the audience and served as a thrilling interlude between tournament matches. The Tag Team Title contest provided a welcome break from the tournament action and added variety to the card. While there were some moments that could be considered skippable, and the event did run a bit long, there is plenty to appreciate about WrestleMania IV, especially for fans of the legendary Macho Man Randy Savage."

[4.0] "Oh boy another bad early WrestleMania. I mean the whole idea of having a tournament for the WWF championship sounds good but why start with 16 men ? I feel like it should have been straight to the quarter finals. In that way the matches would be longer and more enjoyable. Randy Savage preformed excellent in this PPV and it was a great idea to win the whole thing. Hogan's match against Andre was nothing like the WM 3 match that they had. Match of the night is the main event. Honestly I would only recommend the main event everything else isnt worth watching."

How many times must it be said that Clash 1 was the better show? It was the better show btw. So guess who elementary school me chose to win this tournament? GUESS! Did you guess Bam Bam Bigelow? If so, here's a cupcake. All matches that meet the critera are reviewed, so feel free to read the if you care. All matches that do not meet or exceed 5 minutes will get a small blurb here. Opening Battle Royal had a fun finish that I will always appreciate and in general it wasn't too bad (5.75). I can't review DiBiase vs Duggan but I think they did well for the time allowed and it established the additional threat of Andre tremendously, Ted also looked quite strong here (5.25). Don Muraco vs Dino Bravo is less than five minutes but feels more than twelve, at times it's completely awful (0.75). Ricky Steamboat vs Greg Valentine is a match I definitely liked (7.5). Butch Reed vs Randy Savage wasn't bad but was underwhelming (4.5). The One Man Gang vs Bam Bam Bigelow. I told you I thought Bigelow would take the big one. Kids are stupid. Apparently Bam Bam had a big time boo boo and needed surgery yesterday and even walking to the ring was probably murder for the guy. The match is two clubbing BO-hemoths and isn't that good but is still better than Muraco vs Bravo (2). Hulk Hogan's promo at this point is gawd awful STUPID. Here is where I will mention Bob Uecker doesn't put over despicable dipshit donny and calls the building what it is. THE CONVENTION CENTER (we will also accept "The Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall"). Bob Uecker gets a fist bump. Rick Rude vs Jake Roberts is staggeringly disappointing and borderline torture during the chinlocks (3.25). Hercules vs The Ultimate Warrior is about as trash as Bravo vs Muraco because Warrior is blown up damn early and that finish sucked (0.75). Andre the Giant vs Hulk Hogan was a match that had a finish (0.75). Ted DiBiase vs Don Muraco ain't so bad, in fact it's decent (5.75). Greg Valentine vs Randy Savage is quite good but I wish it had more time (6). Honky Tonk Man vs Brutus Beefcake is somehow not the worst thing on the show (1). The British Bulldogs & Koko B Ware vs The Islanders & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan is always better than I recall and I think it's because the show overall is so damn lackluster that by this time even a match like this feels refreshing and not so bad (4.5). One Man Gang vs Randy Savage wins the "stupidest finish of the night" award with Gang getting himself disqualified, you just cost yourself the world title you Hindenburgesque buffoon! The match itself ain't so bad, it's not so great either... kind of the general theme of most of these matches actually (4.25). Demolition vs Strike Force was hurt by a weak finish and the LOUSY crowd (it was insulting to the work to be honest), though I did like it (6.25). FINALLY the show comes to an end with Randy Savage vs Ted DiBiase (6.5) The average is a 4.04. NOT recommended. This event was severely damaged by #1) the crowd, which might as well been a graveyard and #2) the fact that it's TOO, DAMN, LONG. UGH! But to leave this on a neutral note: An answer to a wrestling trivia question is this: Randy Savage & Elizabeth wore the following colors to each match in this order: Blue, Pink, Black and White."

[4.0] "This entire card is pretty much the exact opposite of modern wrestling. At Wrestlemania 4, most of the in-ring work was sacrificed to storytelling. And while I think storytelling in wrestling is a lost art form now, this event was too much in the other direction. Some matches were too short and needed more time to be good. Other matches would have been fine being shorter and were given too much time. Some matches could have left a bigger impact if the feud and build that led up to them were hyped more. Some matches spent too much time building hype that didn't need to be there instead of letting the match itself do the talking. This one is really all over the place. Wrestlemania 4 isn't a bad show, but it isn't a good one, either. It's almost sad to think that the entirety of Wrestlemania 4 was simply done to form the building blocks of Wrestlemania 5, but that's what we have here. I think this show is better if you watch it with that mindset rather than watching it as a standalone show. Whether you agree that that is effective or not is a different story, but this definitely needs to be seen as 'part 1, ' and sort of needs to be judged with the 'part 2' of the story in mind next year."

This show is great for one factor...which is Macho Man winning the WWF Title; not that the end up spotlighting him much as champion due to other factors. In a way it felt like Ted Dibiase needed the win for the story here, but it's hard to complain against Randy winning; he's certainly earned it on his performances. The matches are largely mediocre and with so many of them the show really starts dragging around the two hour mark and was beginning to make me feel very restless. There was a lot of questionable booking too, with far too many screwy finishes. MOTN for me was easily Steamboat vs Valentine, but I don't expect many younger fans would enjoy it as much as I did. Other than that there really isn't much worth watching here for any reason other than having an interest in WWE history."

[3.0] "The booking of this Wrestlemania is baffling. DQs, Count outs and otherwise non-clean finishes drag down a lot of the matches. The single day tournament itslef was an awful idea with so many matches tiring out both the crowd and the wrestlers. First Round should've happened on Saturday Nights Main Event or just have the Tournament start with Quarter Finals. To top it off there were chances to have better matches but instead we got guys like Bam Bam Bigelow and Ricky Steamboat losing in the first round while Don Muraco and The One Man Gang got more than one fight. I'm giving it 3 points one for each match that gets a satisfactory rating from me (Steamboat/Valentine, Strike Force/Demolition & Savage/Dibiase)"

Semi-main and main were decent I guess, but even Macho's coronation has Hogan hogging the spotlight after a short and average match. Monsoon and Ventura are good on commentary throughout. Just about everything else is bad - a slog of a tournament for the *world title* rife with non-finishes and bad results that not even Macho could particularly carry, forgettable filler, an unfunny celebrity arc after the star power of the first three, a 3.5 hour runtime you feel every minute of, lame venue, dead crowd."

A one night tournament is never usually a great idea but Hogan going out in the first round killed the crowd (as if they were interested in much before that anyway) and it felt like 90% of matches had a messy finish. Savage winning the title in the main event was a nice moment but it was tough work to get to that point. Bob Uecker trying to find Vanna White was a weird sub-story throughout the night, the IC and Tag titles felt like meaningless matches, the battle royal was incredibly dull and Ultimate Warrior got a fluke win. The highlight was seeing the many different dresses Elizabeth wore and Hogan's promo about saving a drowning Trump family. Maybe he should've tried saving this show from the tidal wave that was overbooking."

The crowd are bored out of their minds because they are seeing the same guys over and over again and the one guy they wanted to see is knocked out in the first round. There is a reason one night tournaments really do not work. Christ, this was hard work."

The whole show collapsed under its own weight as a result of this, causing it to drag on and on without ever feeling like its gonna end. And don't even get me started on the number of non-finishes throughout the event! Randy Savage's crowning was an unquestionably amazing moment for the ages, but it required an exhausting journey to get there. This is the worst WrestleMania ever in my book."
