Overall WWE Battleground (2017) is a really horrible show full of garbage. It's a miracle that NXT were able to make the Battleground PLE trend worth something more when they acquired it."

[4.0] "A bad show in general, but that awesome opener definitely saves it from the true dregs territory in WWE PPV history. Was downhill so quick after that though. Corbin/Shinsuke was average at best. Women's match was okay, nothing special and Natalya was a pretty baffling winner. Owens/Styles wasn't awful but it was a massive letdown, no real spark, felt like there was something nasty in the Smackdown water by this point. Cena v Rusev was terrible nationalist garbage, I love both guys but they need to stay the hell away from each other forever from now on. Zayn v Kanellis happened, Kanellis is a very pointless wrestler and it's unbelievable how much he was dragging Zayn down. Punjabi Prison pretty much just sucked, fun bump from Samir Singh and I got a laugh out of Khali's appearance so it's not the worst main event ever, but god knows why they thought bringing this match type back would be a good idea, and god knows why they thought they should make Jinder champ. 2017 Smackdown has been a real disappointment. Personally I have this down as the worst WWE PPV in over 2 years. But still, Usos and New Day totally rocked."

I am sick of multi women clusterfuck now. AJ/KO was easily one of the most disappointing match of the year. It was beyond embarrassing. Boring action, no heat, botched ending all summed up this DUD. Cena/rusev was another stupid match *. CENAWINSLOL. Zayn/kanellis was okay tv match **. Glad zayn won though. ME was total trash waste of fucking 28 minutes of everybody (-*). Khali returned ? Speechless now."

[8.0] "I'm seriously sick of this. There is no way that a PPV with two 4-star matches and two 3 1/2-star matches is bad, yet alone garbage. We all know the opening match was great. But Owens and Styles was a great, even psychological match between two of the best. It didn't live up to its MOTY expectations, but it was great. Nakamura and Corbin started slow, but the last 8 minutes (most of the match) or so was great, trading strikes, Corbin slowly getting desperate against some of Nakamura's hardest strikes in a while, that great out and back in lariat, and the finish was done really well, made Nakamura look so good that Corbin had to try anything to not even win, but get away. The main event was about five minutes too long and the door opening segments were repetitive, but otherwise a really well done cage-type match with two guys beating the sh*t out of each other and Mahal, despite holding his own, one-upping Orton by having contingencies on top of contingencies. Cena and Rusev did have its moments but was otherwise forgettable, Zaynd and Mike was meh, and the Women's match, abrupt eliminations aside, was alright."

[5.0] "This PPV could have been better but, there were still 3/4 decent matches on the card. The show started out on fire the match was great between the Usos and New Day, it was one of the best WWE tag team matches in 2017 thus far. The double powerbomb spot was unbelievable. Also, Xavier Woods' performance in this match stood out and was one of his best performances in my opinion. Shinsuke vs Corbin was slow and just wasn't a good showing for either wrestlers. Shinsuke and Baron just do not go wel together at all, on top of a slow match with a dead crowd and wrestlers that don't go well together, the ending was dumb and extended a seemingly poor and pointless rivalry. The women's #1 contenders match wasn't bad, the climax of the match was Charlotte vs Natalya at the end, I do believe that Natalya is capable of being a solid champion still, unlike Naomi, but I think the better booking decision would've been to have Charlotte win the match. The US title match between Styles and Owens did not meet expectations tonight. The match was still solid because of how good the competitors are but the match didn't tell a story like it real could've and didn't include as many spots as it really could have. The flag match was extremely predictable: Rusev dominates, Cena comes back claims the win for America. Even though this match was predictable, it was still entertaining and included solid wrestling and spots from both men. Sami Zayn vs Mike Kannelis was below average. Sami Zayn shouldn't be in pointless feuds like this he should be contending for a title. Lastly, the Punjabi prison main event was better than I expected. It was 1v1 with Orton and Mahal and of course Orton got the upper hand and when Mahal was in trouble the Singh brothers came to his aid, the brawl between Mahal the Singhs and Orton was intriguing, my favorite spot of the match was one of the Singh brothers crashing through the announce table. The most unexpected part of this match and PPV was Khalil's return which"

The biggest disappointment comes from 3+ stars match expectations as AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens and Shinsuke Nakamura vs Baron Corbin. Both matches were bad. John Cena vs Rusev is probably the best match of the night, but the stipulation was bad, I prefer the older Flag matches. The Punjabi Prison match is a disaster, it will never work. Smackdown Live is becoming the worst show of WWE. I don't think it's bad on the levels of King of the Ring 95, there are some good workers involved, but quality wise it's a great disappointment. Just skip it!"

[1.0] "Yikes, what a bad PPV. Perhaps not the worst ever, but definitely the worst of the modern era. For a company with a locker room as good as WWE's, theres no excuse whatsoever to be producing trash like this. Everything except the tag title match woefully underdelivered, and the main event was an almost unwatchable atrocity. I know they have their heart set on the Indian market, but as long as Jinder Mahal is the WWE Champion, these shows and this product is going to be terrible. These are just facts. And I have no idea what they're doing with fantastic talents such as Shinsuke, Sami, AJ and Owens, but these guys should be having great matches every week, but they're damn sure not. Its time we all faced facts and admitted to ourselves that current WWE is 1999 WCW levels of bad at this point. Usos vs. New Day: ***1/2, Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Boring Corbin: *1/4, Women's Elimination Match: *3/4, AJ vs. Owens: **3/4, Cena vs. Rusev: **1/2, Zayn vs. Kanellis: *1/2, Punjabi Prison: DUD. This show was wretched."

[6.0] "It seems this PPV is getting a lot of negativity. I thought it was going to be bad, but actually it was better than expected. Usos/New Day was a fantastic example of a great tag match. Ok, there were some duds, Shinsuke/Corbin wasn't great, neither was Kanellis/Zayn. The women's match was ok, it was definitely entertaining. The flag match was better than expected with a nice ending. The Punjabi Prison match was by far the best out of the three, with a great spot from the Sanir brother through the announcers table and some legit heavy hits with the kendo stick. I don't mind Khali's return as long as he doesn't wrestle on ppv. He will give the faction more momentum and it will probably extend Jinder's title run (unfortunately). I actually enjoyed this more than Great Balls of Fire. 6 stars."

JakeTheEpicMan wrote on 24.07.2017:

DanTalksRasslin wrote on 24.07.2017:
[2.0] "The New Day vs Usos match was very good, but it was downhill from there. Nakamura vs Corbin and Owens vs Styles underdelivered (both had lame endings, the US Title didn't need to change hands again this soon, and Nakamura-Corbin also suffered from a lack of chemistry, while a better Styles vs Owens match was held in Philly a couple of years ago for HOH). The good news with those is that both matches were probably there to build up to future blow-off matches. The women's match was OK, but just had too many people involved to get a good flow going, Zayn-Kanellis was too short to really amount to anything, and both the main event and the flag match were boring affairs let down by their overly-complicated stipulations (the addition of having to bring the flag up the ramp hurt that one, and the Punjabi Prison's always been a dog of a match anyway). The opener (and pre-show) matches might be worth a look, but it's hard to recommend much else. With so much great talent on the card, it's frustrating to see the end result turn out this poorly."

Cena vs Rusev was boring. The end of cena vs Rusev was okay. Sami Zayn vs Mike Kanellis was a regular TV match, nothing special. I liked the Punjabi Prison match, I think this was easily the best Punjabi Prison match out of the three. Orton has a shitty new tattoo. The signapore cane shots were pretty good, actually got a little bit of blood which made the prison match look a bit better. Nice spot through the table from Samir! The Great Khali's return was fine, actually something unexpected. Khali still can't walk but if he is going to not wrestle and make some appearances under a ambassadors/legends type role, i'm fine with that. Probably the second or third best match on the show (feels weird saying a Punjabi Prison match was one of the best matches on a show). For Philly, the crowd was really, really, really dead. I'm not surprised though because I don't many of the regular hardcore Philly crowd were smart enough to not go to this show. Overall a pretty shit show. Felt like a special episode of Smackdown, not a PPV/Network show."

[2.0] "Garbage PPV all around, worst one since, well, since Battleground 2014. Flag Match and Punjabi Prison were complete duds, nothing of merit from either of them. Bringing Great Khali back will go down as the worst decision WWE makes since, well, since putting the championship on Jinder Mahal. Finish to the US Title match ruined a decent match, it made AJ look like such a chump, laying down the whole time while the ref made the slowest 3 count ever. I hope that ref recovers from that vicious bump though."

I'm glad that Naty won and she is given a chance. Styles vs. Owens was better than the one at Backlash but still mediocre than i expected. Punjabi Prison match was kind of long and predictible except the fact that Khali returned. Anyway it wasn't such a bad PPV as some people say."

[3.0] "WWE Battleground 2017 was a very average, mediocre show, a lot like most of the matches on the card. The only standout match that didn't totally stink was ironically the opening match, the Usos & the New Day put on a heck of a match, the crowd was totally into it, and in the end the New Day put themselves back on top by winning the Smackdown Live! Tag Team Championships! Nakamura vs. Corbin wasn't anything too special unfortunately as Nakamura's main roster run continues to be mundane at best, the finish was designed to keep both guys strong, as both guys needed the win. The Five Way Elimination Match was kind of a blur, it was also convoluted in how it played out, in the end Natalya won a shot to face Naomi at SummerSlam, which I guess is nice, but someone like Charlotte would've been a bigger draw, than say Natalya or Tamina. The Owens/Styles match for the US Championship was surprisingly not very good, it was an average match with nothing special or nothing to write home about. In the end, Owens manages to recapture the title, which I think was the wrong move, because Styles vs. Nakamura for the US Title seemed like a given for SummerSlam, but now it doesn't seem so likely, unless they do a Triple Threat with Nakamura, Owens, & Styles. The Flag Match was alright, again nothing too special, the table spot was cool, but would've been better if were Rusev planting Cena through them, and not Cena planting Rusev through them. I think a lot of people called the match, it seemed pretty predictable, but at the same time, it wasn't a good look for a returning Rusev. Rusev basically jobbed to Cena, and the crowd could've honestly cared less. The whole Zayne/Kanellis feud has been just strange, WWE couldn't wait to have this match before Sunday, so the two already had fought once this past Tuesday on Smackdown Live! with Kanellis getting the win. Their rematch here was nothing special, again very forgettable match, but Zayne came out on top this time, some good ole'"

Fatal Five Way Elimination Match could be better than it was but it was still decent, I hope at Summerslam women will get more proper time and booking to showcase their division and a very likely cash-in won't overshadow the match itself because they deserve a better treatment at PPVs. The US Championship match was quite good with a finish not exactly dirty but neither exactly clean. The Flag Match was everything that people expected it to be and unfortunately nothing more. Fashion Police are life, Breezango are love. Sami vs. Mike was nothing to write home about but it was a cool-down match before the main event so it figures. Well, similar to what Reigns vs. Strawman and Lesnar vs. Joe were to Great Balls of Fire, Punjabi Prison was to Battleground. It was a spectacle and entertaining to see for me. Overall the PPV had not so many highs but the lows were close to mediocre more than anything and the highs (main event and especially opener) I enjoyed greatly."
