[7.0] "Should probably have had some longer matches. The tournament had featured bigger stars who didn't make the titular event, which is a shame. Also a *real* shame that King Barrett ended up falling off entirely after this win. That said, this was a pretty cool bonus show, and I'm always excited to see the King of the Ring tournament. Obvious highlight was the main event and tournament final, as it should be. Both guys looked great."

[4.0] "The King of the Ring has a somewhat mixed legacy - some editions have been great, star-making affairs, while others are best left forgotten. This one falls into the latter category - the lineup was mainly guys the writers hadn't bothered to come up with anything else for, the matches were not bad but were mostly rushed and underwhelming, and Barrett was never able to really capitalize on his win (being soon placed in the go-nowhere League of Nations stable, and being gone from the company not long after that). The whole affair, a Network-exclusive special, came off as largely an afterthought."
