Colt Cabana

[5.0] "Boom Boom? Colt Cabana, famously known for being a good friend with Punk and them being in a real life beef with Punk, he always did his job well as a comedy wrestler. Not the type of wrestler I would love to see wrestle like, right now, but he was good during ROH times. Good guy for multiman matches tho."

[7.0] "A very very good comedy wrestler and fun indie act for many years. One of those people who has really made the most out of pretty average athleticism and not having size as a great asset. Fun guy to root for and one of those guys who really did a lot of innovation outside of the ring for the business. Really charming and definitely ahead of his time in a lot of ways, as his career would likely be a lot more successful if he was only 5 or 10 years younger."

[7.0] "I find him to be genuinely funny and easy going. He has a natural charm and charisma that makes him affable. He's also a pretty good wrestler and probably could've had a much different career if he decided to be more serious at any point. Still, he was ahead of everyone else with pushing his own merch store and especially the podcast. As of 2024 there's far too many wrestling podcasts and the majority of them are terrible but Colt's was very good."

[3.0] "Never liked him as a wrestler and his overall personality just rubbed me the wrong way. He's not the worst wrestler in the world, but man is he boring and leaves a lot to be desired. If he was any good, WWE would've kept him around instead of releasing him over a decade ago. I know he's beloved by people online, but he just doesn't do it for me. Would never be believable as a heel or legitimate wrestler, he's just a bit of a clown who somehow is making a living within the world of professional wrestling."

[10.0] "A legitimate Renaissance Man of wrestling. He can wrestle pretty much any kind of match, from catch to strong style to hardcore to American indie epic to yes, especially comedy wrestling. For better or worse the first thing most people will associate Colt Cabana with when you mention his name (aside from maybe the CM Punk drama) is comedy wrestling. And this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it diminishes his actual in-ring work, which is simply stellar. A solid striker and remarkably crisp technical wrestler, he also has a strong mind for match psychology and pacing. Dude could have a ****+ match in his sleep with just about any competent wrestler in the world. His promos also never failed to deliver. And all of this is to say nothing to his influence outside the ring itself. Any wrestler that's sold a t-shirt at Hot Topic or had their own podcast has Colt Cabana to thank, as he essentially pioneered wrestling podcasts and the mass commercialization of merch for indie wrestlers. He's definitely getting older and it shows in his current work but I mean, it is what it is. Everyone can't be Yuji Nagata. I really wish AEW would make better and more consistent use of Cabana, as he's a great asset to have in the ring, on the mic, and backstage."

[7.0] "Cabana is a good comedy wrestler and can always be counted on to give a good match. From all accounts has a good mind for the business and is a good person to have backstage. He has a good promo and has plenty of charisma. His legacy will be interesting due to his close relation to Punk and the whole AEW drama"

Because of Punk drama, his legacy will be somewhat clouded but actually he is a hugely important part of the explosion of independent wrestling as he showed others they could do it and make money. I am not entirely sure I ever really want to watch his matches particularly these days but ho hum"

[6.0] "He's a solid performer for the independents. Seems like he did a lot to help out mentoring independent wrestlers during his hey day, and appears to be generally well liked. As for what he brings as a character or wrestler, he is well suited to comedy and was a solid but unspectacular performer. These days he is best suited to working behind the scenes and the odd smaller showing."

[6.0] "Colt is that ultimate journeyman nice guy that you really dont have anything bad to say about... but truthfully... I dont have anything overly positive to say about him either? Im a huge CM Punk guy but I would never put a single problem or issue on Colt, Punk is his own problem. And that is part of maybe the saddest thing about Colt is that he has inadvertently become tied to Punks legacy for better or worse. But all those silly politics aside, he's a good fun dude and enjoyable wrestlers but... never really seen anything truly outstanding or note worthy from him, but Ive only seen a handful of his more indie matches so it could change if I ever got around to watching whatever "classics" people might say he has. Nothing wrong with Cabana"

[5.0] "Colt is very well-known and loved. But separating the person from his work, he was an average comedic wrestler with intermediate in-ring skills. Good dude, I'm sure. He would be a decent draw on the indies because his name is well-known, but that's about it."

[4.0] "i watched alot of colt cabana matches and the more i watched the more i see that his place is in the indys the guy just lacks charisma and i cant take his fake smile he was just terrible for the dark order and didnt bring anything to the group, but i will give the devil its due and say that he can work in the right division just not in aew or wwe."

[6.0] "A good wrestler but no big deal, Colt Cabana is quite charismatic and in his prime could do a lot of good stuff. Since then, almost everything he's done has been pretty mediocre."

[5.0] "A good indie worker for a long time and had some genuinely great matches in ROH before allowing his comedy gimmick to take over. But there's a ceiling to how highly you can be rated leading the type of career that he has, and that's where Colt is. Failing in both national promotions he's popped up in doesn't lend any favour either."

[6.0] "He's talented for sure, but I just can't get into his gimmick. It also doesn't help that he's done dick all in AEW, I'm surprised he's still with the company. If you rate him on his early years it'd be waaaay higher, but his career as a whole isn't too memorable."

[3.0] "I havent really gotten into Colt Cabana. He does not have any distinguishing skills in terms of wrestling. Not a CM Punk level promo and not a Chris Hero level worker. He is more or less a very successful comedy wrestler. I respect his work in the indies but he has only worked for one major wrestling promotion and that is AEW. He has not been on AEW TV for a year and he was a jobber to the stars most of his run. His biggest claim is being CM Punks ex-friend and trying to sue him for 1 million dollars. In my opinion, Colt Cabana is a very overrated wrestler. To quote JBL if youre in the indies for 10 years then youre a loser because you have been playing single A ball for 10 years"

[6.0] "An independent wrestling mainstay and a phenomenally hard worker to change the landscape of wrestling. But simply put his wrestling style is not for me"

[8.0] "For all that he's done for the American independent scene for over 20 years, Boom Boom has my respect and appreciation"

Between his fake as all hell smile, lack of charisma, and his over-reliance on a comedy shtick when can we just be real, this guy is NOT funny, you will never be Toru Yano, sorry buddy. He can't wrestle, he can't put on a good promo. I will admit, perhaps in the past he might have had some potential, but he stuck to the comedy thing for so long that that's all anyone will ever see him as. In contrast, Yano started out serious, and is ending his career as a genuinely funny comedic foil for NJPW. Just get him off TV and put him as a producer or something, people like Cabana and Janela are why people who don't know pro wrestling mock it fervently and why there are so few new fans."

[6.0] "His early stuff was promising as a singles and tag wrestler with CM Punk. Obviously he found that comedy wrestling meant less serious bumps/unique gimmick and went with that for the most part as well. That being said, he's so entrenched in that comedy wrestling now that he could never get out of it even if he tried, which he did by trying to be serious when he came back in ROH and then turned heel for a short time: none of this changed anything for him. That being said, he's a solid wrestler when he wants to be, which isn't very often. We'll need to wait and see if his AEW run actually means anything in the long run, or if he's just going to be the same old him there. (2021 update: yep, just as expected. Colt might actually be worse now than he was when I initially reviewed him a year or so ago. Really feels like he's phoning it in for the most part on Dark or whatnot)"

[7.0] "Colt Cabana is fun and likeable. Is work is fine. I've only seen him in AEW, where he's done some good character work and played off of Mr Brodie Lee well. I'm sure he's been better in his prime and I'm interested to see more."

[8.0] "While I'm not a fan of comedy wrestling Colt proved he can be a good serious pro wrestler. Heck in Ring of Honor I liked some of his comedic moments. I think the highlight his career was Seven Levels of Hate series with Adam Pierce over The NWA World Heavyweight Championship."

[7.0] "Colt Cabana has the tools. He's a good worker, can cut an excellent promo, has a lot of charisma, and outside of the ring he comes across as really personable, smart, and funny. Somehow, though, he's never seemed to be able to cut that all together to become a real star. He's still a solid midcarder, though."

[5.0] "Decent wrestler in AEW who used to be in NWA, and previously in ROH. I liked him many years ago, late 90s teaming with CM Punk he was great. Saw him in IWF in Detroit back in the day and he was awesome as a teammate of Punk's and also as a single wrestler. He used to be great in IWA Mid South and used to work his ass off. But now he is mostly a comedy act that can get stale after a minute. He has gotten a bit slower in the ring and some of his matches are more comedy, but he can still wrestle. He seems to be getting more serious and focused in AEW and is seeming to get back on track to where he used to be. Maybe not quite as charismatic as he used to be, but he is still always good on the mic."

[6.0] "Overrated as hell, everything i've seen of his work isn't as good as all the indie marks make it out to be."

[7.0] "One of the pioneers of the current "indies can be viable" mentality that is running strong in the industry. Also pioneered the podcasting market for wrestlers. He's still going with his recent run with the NWA National Championship. Sometimes he can border too close to goofy comedy for my taste, but he's usually not overt like Joey Ryan. His run in WWE was a bust, but not his fault & he proved he didn't need to be there."

[6.0] "I've never been super into Cabana's comedy stuff, maybe because it just reminds me that he could be a much better technical wrestler. Because he certainly has the ability to do so but just doesn't for some reason."

[6.0] "Colt Cabana is the personification of the term 'a good hand'. He's decent in the ring and on the mic."

[5.0] "Colt Cabana is a special wreslter. He can have great matches with the likes of Bryan Danielson and tag team with CM Punk was very good but his comedy is just bad'. The comedy stick really hurt his credibility as champion/challenger"

[5.0] "A promising prospect when he first broke into the business with Punk that decided to go a more comedic route. That's all fine and dandy the guy can work his craft however he wishes but its kinda sad because he had a good chunk of potential, and I'm not a fan of his comedy anyways. His feud with Homicide was insane and hes never had a bad match with Punk or Bryan (then again its Punk and Bryan), but hes content. Hes had a lot of shots at ROHs top title and yet has never won it, I suppose it wouldn't be a stretch to call him the Tommy Dreamer (except instead of being insufferably boring w/o Raven hes insufferably unfunny w/o Punk), though we all know hes going to get a 'thank you' run with it before all is said and done (unless ROH is bought out before then)."

[9.0] "Enjoyable in the ring as he can pull out some unique moves. He can be serious or comedic depends on situation. His recent heel turn in ROH is also interesting as he portrays an annoying heel who throws fake smiles everywhere/"

[10.0] "What an absolute legend. He is, in my opinion, the greatest comedy gimmick of all time, great charisma, great mic and ring-skills. He can just be summed up by two words: FUCKING LEGEND"

[4.0] "A comedy act. Great talker but iŽve never saw in him a good wrestler. Maybe his career would be longer working these kind of matches that are made for indies, but not for tv or any promotion that wants to be taken seriously."

[0.0] "This Man is a shame to the wrestling community. I mean your in the ring to wrestle not to be funny. If you were in there to be funny this Man would still be horrible. I just can't understand why so many companies want him cause He is just trash. Even back when He was a serious competitor he was ridiculous. Overall one of the worst wrestlers in the history of time."

[0.0] "Colt Cabana is another perfect example of why comedy wrestling isnt good in wrestling unless its in small doses. Cabana tries to be funny in all of his matches and it just doesnt work. He is just to overrated for a guy that tries to make people laugh but miserably fails. Overall their is no reason to wonder why WWE fired him so quickly."

[10.0] "As far as his comedy, it's a matter of taste (I personally enjoy it), but in the ring, Colt was always enjoyable."

He is perhaps a little too enamored with his own shtick at times but all in all I enjoy watching Colt do his thing in many versatile situations."

[5.0] "I cannot believe how overrated this Jabroni is. seriously people? If he's so damn good, why hasn't even TNA bothered to sign him by now? Colt Cabana is the equivalent of a career minor leaguer in baseball. good enough to be pro, but not good enough to get to the majors. This guy is so average and has no personality."

[10.0] "Colt Cabana is by far the most unique wrestler ther is today. He brings an element to the sport like none other. He uses a comic style of wrestling to appeal to the fans. When he is in the ring you can feel how much he loves pro wrestling and he puts a twist to the old school thought of pro wrestling. He truly makes wrestling a show. Instead of watching 2 people fight. He makes is wrestling comical where fans can sit back laugh and have an amazing time. He is truly an amazing performer!"

[5.0] "I was never a fan of this guy. He always seems to be a bit full of himself. A bit self righteous perhaps? Like hearing him nag and nag and advertising his podcast week and week out, gets annoying after awhile. I've seen him wrestle a few times and I wasn't the least bit impressed. BFF's with CM Punk. To me, I'm not fond of this guy but, I won't deny the fact that the guy can wrestle. I just he was more entertaining and lively that's all."

[9.0] "The funniest guy in the sport. Plus he can wrestle. So many great accomplishments in wrestling, but never a hit in the WWE or TNA. He ought to have been though. He's loved by crowds everywhere he goes. Hopefully he'll get a chance to shine in an upcoming promotion in GFW. He brings nothing but great things to any company he goes."

[10.0] "Colt is known for embracing the comedic side of wrestling and his comedy matches are all about letting the audience have a good time. But beneath all the joking around, he's also one of the best technical wrestlers going today, adopting elements of the old-school British style into his repertoire, and is extremely charismatic as well. Outside the ring, he's also a wonderful ambassador for independent wrestling through his "Art of Wrestling" podcast."

[9.0] "Though known best to mainstream audiences as CM Punk's buddy, Colt Cabana is surely recognised as one of the most popular and successful Indie/Freelance wrestlers out there. His long career has been littered with regional and international championship reigns, the most prestigious of which would of course be his runs as NWA World Heavyweight Champion and ROH World Tag Champion. His ringwork is beautifully well rounded and always full of surprises (surprising agility, submission prowess and power moves) despite his tendency towards goofier antics. Unique to Cabana is that regardless of his standing as a former World champion, he may well be better known for his entertainment outlets like his Art of Wrestling Podcast and "Worst Promo Ever" YouTube series - certainly a notable character in the world of wrestling. Cabana's career has made it to WWE and TNA, however briefly, while he's had great runs in ROH (including frequent spots in championship contention) and can still be seen on iPPV/TV for the likes of FWE, CZW, Chikara, NOAH and more. I hope to see him reappear in WWE (or TNA) in a larger capacity someday soon and in the meantime I'd love to see him pop up in promotions like Extreme Rising and Tommy Dreamer's House of Hardcore."

[8.0] "Tragically wasted in the 'E--Colt is not just one of the most likable wrestlers in the business, he's also a great worker with excellent comedic timing and charisma."

[7.0] "Colt Cabana's in-ring ability and willingness to "go all out" have certainly decreased as he has gotten older and more seasoned, but he is still a very entertaining addition to any show. No longer counted on to have a classic match like he was during the days of his run in IWA Mid South with CM Punk, he is now the comedy portion of the show. He does his job quite well and he's an even bigger personality in the world of podcasting. Colt Cabana is a valuable wrestler for any promotion."
