Superstar Of The Week 43/2025
Konosuke Takeshita earned himself an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match after winning the G1 Climax 2025 tournament. Takeshita challenged champion Zack Sabre Jr. on 13.10.2025, at NJPW King Of Pro-Wrestling 2025 in Tokyo. After 31 minutes of action, Takeshita defeated ZSJ to become IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, the top prize in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, for the first time. Congratulations to "The Alpha" for winning the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, as well as for being named CAGEMATCH Superstar Of The Week for the second time in just a handful of months!

Josh Mathews: "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time, Chris Jericho. Chris, this Sunday at the Bash you'll put up your Intercontinental Championship and Rey Mysterio will put up his mask. Why are you so obsessed with unmasking Rey Mysterio?" ...Read on!

[] ""Drew always tells the truth." Stop this nonsense before I lose my own sanity. Drew's entire gimmick is built around being the guy who constantly complains about getting screwed, whining on social media and pretending that equals depth. There's no real psychology, mind games or emotion in this guy. It's all just surface-level bitterness that never evolves into storytelling. His promo on this show was nothing more than him parroting IWC tweets, which only proved that Triple H has no clue what direction to take this feud. And let's be honest, calling someone "corporate" doesn't hit like it used to. Wrestling today is too self-aware and too far removed from kayfabe for that label to sting anymore. It's not anyone's fault though. That's just how the industry has evolved. The problem is Triple H still books as if it's 2011 and the result is embarrassing. This whole shtick of Drew trying to get fans to boo Cody or cast doubt on him feels cheap and forced. The modern heel problem is on full display here: they're not really heels anymore. Triple H doesn't seem to understand that heels exist to generate heat and make the hero's journey meaningful. A good heel can be right in emotion but wrong in action. They can be understandable in their feelings, but they should never be justified in their evil actions against our good old babyfaces. Think back to 2009 CM Punk. There was some truth in what he said, but he weaponized Jeff's real-life struggles to mask his self-righteousness and narcissism. He believed he was right and that's what made him dangerous. Punk was intelligent and morally manipulative back then. You didn't need to like him, but you felt something real and the audience instinctively knew who to root for even though we knew our beloved hero was flawed. Now look at Drew in 2025. He says nothing of value, creates no tension and adds nothing to Cody's story. He doesn't sound authentic and comes off more like a guy reading fan discourse online than a believable character. Even a babyface Daniel Bryan managed to add depth to John Cena back in 2013 despite Cena being a polarizing face. Bray Wyatt did it better too. Hell, even Rikishi did it better against The Rock in 2000 and that heel run didn't even work. Cody screaming "enough" made it worse. He's already a boring character, but this was just as cringe as Michael Keaton's "let's get nuts" in Batman and he couldn't explain anything. What kind of feud is this supposed to be? And then they call me a nostalgia guy for saying 2025 WWE is a lost cause. Then we got a random tag match with Nakamura and Fenix facing The MFT. This whole MFT experiment needs to end. Every single one of them is a bad wrestler right now and no one can drag a good match out of them. The writing is terrible, the chemistry nonexistent and Hikuleo desperately needs to go back to the basics because there's simply no defense for how rough this was. Next was Kiana vs Tiffany, which was a total snoozefest that nobody cared about. Tiffany can't cut a promo or tell a story in the ring to save her life. She should've stayed in NXT until she figured out who she was supposed to be. And now Jade who's somehow even worse, has turned heel. Knowing Triple H's stupid booking style, that means we're in for more of this Reign of Terror. At least Ilja Dragunov remains a bright spot. His U.S. Open Challenge is one of the few genuinely good ideas in the company. I don't care much for Aleister's new Kross-lite gimmick, but his match with Ilja was solid until the awful ending that confirmed his feud with Priest isn't over. The main event between Drew and Jimmy didn't accomplish anything. Drew no-selling the table spot looked awful and while the match was fine, it meant nothing. Cody's post-match brawl with Drew ended with Drew standing tall. It probably means he'll lose at Saturday Night's Main Event. Sadly, it's obvious Triple H is just using Drew as a stepping stone to build tension between Cody and Randy for Randy's eventual heel turn. But the build to that point and Drew's entire character have been so poorly written that I just want this feud to end already. As for the good ratings of this show on social media these past two weeks, the only explanation is can think of is lowered standards. People have lost the ability to tell the difference between something profound and complacent. That's the only way this show gets praise"
