[7.0] "Sid was the man. People have wrong perception of him as just another giant from 90s that did textbook big guys moves. You know chokeslams, big boots, powerbombs that type of shit. Well, what makes Sid different was his connection to the crowd and charisma. It was his unhinged nature that made him popular and people believed in this dude. Look up reaction he got at 96 SS or 97 KOTR. His WCW runs were a mess but second run in Russo era wasn't that bad. We got two all time great segments there, first being "I got half brains that you do" promo and second "WHERE IS MY CAR GOLDBERG". Speaking of promos, it was hit and miss, it would either be fired up promo, or nonsensical Warrior-style rambling. I wish he got a proper longer ECW run. In ring wise, he knew his moves, he was a pretty safe and soft worker. Surely, not the most exciting worker, but with a good dance partner he worked fine. It's unfortunate that he suffered that injury doing something he didn't wanna do in the first place. It is crazy that WWE didn't induct two time WWE champ and two time WM main eventer in their Hall of fame. RIP Sid"

[7.0] "The quintessential "it" factor wrestler, Sid was not a conventionally great (or even good) worker or great promo, or an especially three-dimensional character, but had an unmistakable charisma and ability to just make things work, often when they shouldn't have. Not only did he look like a monster, he carried himself in a way that made him entirely believable as an unhinged, unpredictable lunatic and managed to get his monster character hugely over despite his various shortcomings like few other wrestlers did before or since."

[9.0] "Sid had THE look of professional wrestling. He had this aura about him that made everyone take notice and instantly came across as a legit threat. And yet, Sid had a natural charisma too, and he would form an instant connection with crowds wherever he went. Even the ECW crowd loved Sid. On the mic, Sid was menacing and captivating. It wasn't so much what he said, but how he said it that commanded your attention. In the ring, Sid was a basic power guy, but he could play his role well, knew how to manhandle job guys to get over, and he would take cues from more experienced wrestlers. Although limited, Sid did manage to work some impressive matches, because he could be led and he knew what he was good at and where he needed help. Sid's career was one of several missed opportunities, unfortunately. He had the look, the aura, the charisma, and the attitude to be the successor to Hulk Hogan in the WWF, but personal issues got in the way. Similarly his push came to a halt in WCW due to personal issues. Back in the WWF, Sid was integral in the late New Gen era, when WWF was in an experimental phase inching towards Attitude, alongside guys like Mankind, Goldust, and the earliest incarnation of Stone Cold. Unfortunately, once again Sid would miss out on his chance and left WWF. His final WCW run had promised as the Millennium Man, and once again Sid established himself instantly as a top star. But he was jobbed out to a departing Benoit in a failed, desperate attempt to keep him in WCW, and creative didn't know where to go next with Sid. His horrendous leg break ended his career prematurely, as Sid could have been an awesome addition to the Invasion storyline. All in all, a great pro wrestler who could work within his limitations, but loses a point because of never quite hitting the heights he should have hit due to personal issues and injuries."

He also had an amazing look and was very intimidating. That's evident by how the crowd response from the time he debuted in WCW until his career ended."

He worked on top everywhere he went, and he wrestled everyone who mattered in that time period. Sid had that it-factor, that incredibly rare and indescribable charisma that captivated audiences for years. He was a major draw in a time period when there were few true draws. His personality came through the TV, even if what he was saying didn't make sense sometimes or had two left feet in the ring. He was also capable of some very entertaining squashes. C on promos, D in the ring, but A+ for look/gimmick. RIP to the man who rules the world."

His promos were always a highlight on any show he was on and he looked like a killer with his powerbombs. His downside was that he was never gifted in the ring. When Bret struggles to get a good match out of you, that is an issue. Despite this, I will always hold a soft spot for the Master and the Ruler of the World."

Like many other guys his size, Sid could only have good matches against guys smaller than him. His 1996-1997 WWE run was so good and I wish it lasted a little longer."

Everywhere he went, he got the crowd to react to him in some kind of way. He was so intense, charismatic, entertaining and so good at character work. His royal rumble 1997 entrance still sends chills down my spine and is one of my favorite entrances to this day. Unfortunately, he seemed to care more about softball than wrestling so that didn't really help him achieve the status that he could've."

As a kid, I was captivated at the MSG crowd booing HBK in favor of him since I'd never seen that before. Anyway I honestly believe Sid was a good wrestler in the context of the time he wrestled. Dope matches with Shawn and Bret proved he could be led to great matches. Paul Heyman had the fans you'd assume would hate Sid treating him like a hero in ECW while he buried wrestlers like the Dudley Boyz and Justin Credible in fun squashes."

Sid probably had one of the absolute best looks in the history of not just wrestling but formidable monsters in all of entertainment. Giant sized, seemingly made of stone, even a brick layered face. Usually devoid of emotion except "go forth and kill". Problem is the person inside had no idea how to tap into the probable beast within and preferred another sport. I will always have a soft spot for him despite the obvious setbacks - which are many. His set backs can not be understated. There. Are. So. Many. Set Backs. No problems with The Skyscrapers and liked him as a Horsemen, those eras were probably his best stuff. 7.5"

"Not a great worker. Heck, not even a good worker. But his look and intensity almost made up for his ineptitude when it came to actually working. I could watch Sid toss jobbers around all day. He epitomized what a monster heel should be, at least cosmetically and in terms of promos. And one can't really deny that Sid was super over everywhere he went, pretty much from the time he started as Lord Humongous. The only great Sid matches I can recall seeing were against Shawn Michaels, a miracle worker if ever there was one. Keep in mind that HBK got a near 5 star match out of a 63 year old Vince McMahon. However, Sid did do a great job of playing the monster in those matches. Full disclosure: as a kid I was a big time Sid fan. When he went over Michaels at Survivor Series in MSG I remember being elated. The crowd that night was very audibly behind him too. After Michaels' disastrous run as champ, following the realization of his "boyhood dream" at WM 12, it's easy to see why the generally smarter fans in NYC weren't too keen on having Michaels as champ at the time. But we shouldn't completely discount what Sid brought to the table here. He was undeniably over (apparently I wasn't the only one who liked to see him kill job guys). His promos were interesting to say the least. Think Warrior, just dialed back a bit. In short, the "Sycho" Sid persona that he had adopted for this, his second run in the WWF, really clicked with New Generation era fans. He became an anti-hero of sorts, one of the first I recall seeing in the WWF or WCW. Fans always responded positively to Sid as just this unstoppable ass kicker, in the vein of guys like the Road Warriors. The fact that he main evented 2 WrestleManias still blows my mind. Especially the 2nd time, his match against Taker at Mania 13, it was really a case of right place, right time. I was at that show, and while I always enjoyed seeing Sid live, there was no way that match was gonna touch what Austin and Bret had just done. Still fun seeing Taker crowned champ tho to cap off a pretty good night of wrestling. Oh yeah, Sid. The main thing that kept him at the top of the wrestling food chain for nearly a decade: you can't manufacture a guy with that look. Somewhat like Brock Lesnar today . He looked like he would rip your head off without a second thought. His brief ECW run was fun for what it was. And during the final couple years of WCW's existence Sid was one of the guys I looked forward to seeing each week. His promos became even more insane and nonsensical. He had at least one noteworthy match, losing to Chris Benoit at Souled Out 2000, in what would prove to be Benoit's final match with the company. But that's a story for another comment section. He was a top guy, in the World title picture, right up almost to the end of WCW. The way his career came to an end still makes me cringe just thinking about it. Thanks WCW for showing the accident the next night on Nitro and scarring me for life. O"

Another thing, his looks absolutely fit the bill of a psychotic monster heel who will just rip you apart unmercifully. Also, if booked right, he can cut a genuinely terrifying promo that screams real intensity and viciousness. Sadly for him, he just couldn't wrestle a good match to save his life whatsoever unless he was pitted with the right opponent (Bret and Shawn instantly come to mind). Really a shame he's not any good in the ring whatsoever, as he could've been a 90s version of Brock Lesnar with it."

Probably just being himself. With a good manager like Col Bobby Parker doing the talking for him he fulfilled the role of towering menace very well. But after he joined the WWF his decline started: he had some decent matches with Shawn Michaels, but if you face the Showstopper at his peak and all you could manage was a decent match, you should start worrying. Plainly put Sid looked more and more like a gigantic confused moron than the threatening colossus who could rip a babyface apart in a few minutes he was early in his career. His second WCW run was terrible, topping with the horrible "Master of the Powerbomb" match, a good candidate for the worst PPV match of all times. Another case of a good worker who tarnished his legacy by sticking around long after he had lost his motivation."

The announcers did a great job of selling his backstory to someone like me who was not watching before the mid '90s. It's cool nowadays to cheer the heels, but back then it was not as common & Sid having the majority of mature males behind him created a unique dynamic. All the matches of his that I've seen throughout the years lack any kind of special feeling, good structure, and most of the time Sid just looks awkward & mostly confused. Whenever he was on the mic it was just childish yelling that really made no sense--that was his character, because just down to the man himself as a wrestler he just ain't that good, so there was not much to do with him or that he was capable of. The only match of his that I ever really enjoyed was versus Benoit at Souled Out 2000, probably top three best matches of his entire career--which isn't saying much because even that was only a ***1/2 match at the absolute most haha. In shoot interviews, Sid always likes to talk about how huge of a draw he supposedly was, but out of all the years I've watched wrestling I fail to see it. If he were such a huge draw like he claims, I'd think that they would have given him a title run back in '92ish when he was doing stuff like headlining Wrestlemania VIII with Hogan & whatnot. Yeah, he was overall a four-time world champion {x2 WCW & x2 WWF}, but they were short unmemorable runs with no good matches to show for it. Also, his title runs were at times when both companies were not very good, especially WCW in 2000 (majority garbage). Sid had no solid moveset besides the chokeslam, strikes & sidewalk slam... wham bam NO thank you mam."
