16.11.2025 | Killerman | 9.0 | The sher amount of punishment this man has taken makes this man a legendary. Considering a few years ago this man was on his deathmatch I think this return run is as great and as stiff as ever. His stuff with Samoa Joe, Toby Klein, Super Dragon, Brodie Lee, Mad Man Pondo and even Daniel Bryanson is stuff of legend. Like holy fuck man the list goes on and on. A proper icon that will never get his due in the biz now adays due to his political choices. Btw I don't care about politics at all but you gonna respect a man who stands on his merits and I just think the stupid Mega shit is funny anyways. Great wrestler who allways put his opponent over himself even if it's probably not best for his own well being
09.10.2025 | Whelps05 | 6.0 | I'm not a fan of death match wrestling, but this guy makes it half way viewable for me. And I will also give him credit for his match with Samoa Joe which was really bad. One of the few death match wrestlers I can actually watch. Still not a fan of it though.

18.09.2025 | david otunga stan | | Truly one of a kind. An insidiously intelligent and entertaining man who always delivers the fight of the night. Underrated as a worker too, because he may not do a lot of wrestling moves but he knows how to put on a compelling match. Even in non-deathmatches he's a fun watch. Kinda like a modern day Bruiser Brodie, but truly there is no comparison. There will only be one Necro Butcher.

10.09.2025 | JUNAK1YAMA | 10.0 | One of the craziest and dumbest wrestlers ever, Perfect in a deathmatch brawl environment but possibly better when he could just throw fists. No wrestler has less disregard for their own body than Necro Butcher and his mid 2000s peak is one of the highest peaks for any American wrestler ever.
08.09.2025 | TARGETAQUIRED87 | | One of a kind. Completely not replaceable. We won't see another guy like this step in the ring again. Legendary
07.09.2025 | Havoc Rave | 9.0 | The Necro Butcher is one of the best, extremely good anywhere, CZW, IWA Mid South, ROH, his matches are more than excessive violence, he has something that makes him special, his presence, his chemistry, the mystery of "What will Necro do this time? " I think Necro is not very appreciated because his Deathmatch style is very niche. It is clear that Necro's level has been deteriorating due to his style of matches, but his love for wrestling has prevented his retirement.

16.06.2025 | Rassle Fan | 2.0 | I actually met him by chance during Wrestlemania 35 weekend and he's a really, really nice guy! If you know who he is he's very easy to spot in a crowd. I shook his hand, said it's funny running into him like this, and wished him luck and he did the same with me. That alone is worth a couple of points. However, he can't wrestle his way out of a wet paper bag. He's not athletic and can't seem to do anything except allow himself to be brutalized and brutalize others. There's no skill or art to that. I don't think I've ever seen him have an actual wrestling match. When I look at the trainers for guys like this, I wonder what they taught. None of these wrestlers do the basics and when they try, it looks terrible.

09.05.2025 | Sad Smeargle | 6.0 | He's dumb fun, I think. It can be fun to watch a guy just beat people up and get people up. His wrestling is a car wreck, which can be enjoyable, and to his credit, unlike some other people in that category (Sandman, New Jack, Amy Lee), he has some level of athleticism and quality strikes and simple suplexes. He has some substance, for sure. And I think every once in a while if you feed him to one of the best, he can put on an actual special story. But that's not his standard. Overall, he's fun and the best in his hyper-specific niche. But I wouldn't go much further than that lol
29.03.2025 | CashMoneyCannibal | 10.0 | Choose death. My number one favorite wrestler of all time. When Freebird hits and THE Necro Butcher walks out I get chills down my spine. The man wrestled deathmatches barefoot because he altogether didn't seem to care about his own well being or longevity. And make no mistake, the style Necro wrestled did not lend itself to longevity. Lesser performers have been ripping off/paying tribute to his "sitting down on a folding chair and throwing punches" spot for years now. Necro Butcher was much like a smaller, less successful Bruiser Brody - a brawling maniac with a great punch who loved to take the fight outside the ring and get dirty. Necro permanently etched his name into independent wrestling history with his all time classic match vs Samoa Joe, but even besides that he was a credible and well respected talent on the independent scene. His time in IWA-MS, CZW, ROH, and even JCW was spent bleeding and baring his soul for a niche audience who loved him for it. In the landscape of 2000s TV wrestling, Necro Butcher's style was simply incompatible. He was a master of his craft, however his craft was not mass-marketable or suitable for mainstream weekly television consumption. They say that the brightest flame burns the quickest, and Necro Butcher was never afraid to burn. In short, the later years of his career were not as pretty and acclaimed, but I believe in judging a man by the peaks of his accomplishments. At his best, Necro Butcher was an electric talent who completely captured the imagination of myself and many others. In my head canon hall of fame, Necro Butcher is a first ballot lock.
13.02.2025 | Anarchy A Frye | 8.0 | I am one of the many who had not heard of Necro Butcher before his appearance in The Wrestler movie starring Mickie Rourke. I am not a huge death match fan so I haven't seen his greatest hits as some might say but I what I've preserved is that he is actually very solid brawler out side of the death match scene. His full match with Samoa Joe can be found on YouTube.
26.01.2025 | TPG | 9.0 | I love Necro Butcher because of his passion for the business he shows in all of his matches. He bumps and sells beautifully, and he's an amazing brawler as well. I'd honestly call him one of the best deathmatch wrestlers in the indie boom of the 2000s and 2010s, and that's saying something given people like Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston and even The Briscoes. Of course everyone knows the match with Samoa Joe, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch his matches with people like Low-Ki, Kingston, Super Dragon, his deathmatches and his part in the CZW/ROH feud. He played a huge role in making the mid-2000s indie scene hot as hell. He's fine these days, as good as you could expect from a man his age who's done what he's done to his body. Thank you for your contributions to the business, Dylan, you're one awesome motherfucker.

25.12.2024 | Luchaaboveground | 10.0 | Love him or hate him, he has transcended beyond just a hardcore guy, and competed against every level of modern pro wrestler today. This guy is real as they come. The Necro butcher has wrestled absolutely everyone you can think of from legendary Wwe pros to the bottom of the barrel backwoods mudshow bulkshit and one thing is constant. It is always violent. The unofficial godfather of death match wrestling

13.11.2024 | Clairo | 8.0 | If you hate Necro Butcher, you shouldn't watch wrestling. You genuinely hate wrestling. Necro Butcher is a pro wrestler at the core. He just shows up, punches people in the face, is willing to take a beating, and will show back up the next day to do the same thing over and over and over again. One of the best punchers, one of the best brawlers, and somebody that will always live to his motto. Choose Death.
03.11.2024 | thedman0310 | 9.0 | For a long time, Necro was the single best wrestler on the US deathmatch scene. The ROH vs CZW feud, the Joe match, Tough Crazy Bastards, all some of the best wrestling in the genre. Sadly, everything following his first retirement has been pretty rough, with his XPW work in particular being seriously dire. But his good work far outweighs the bad.

22.08.2024 | puroraisedme | 10.0 | Way too low of a rating for Necro Butcher. One of the greatest independent wrestlers from the 2000's has had legendary matches against Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, Low Ki, Super Dragon and many others. Was one of the best wrestlers in the fantastic CZW vs ROH feud in 2006. Has had amazing matches in PWG, IWA Mid-South, CZW and ROH. Choose Death !

01.08.2024 | ltchildres | 8.0 | One of the best brawlers to ever step into a wrestling ring. He just understands the psychology of a knockout-dragout fight. Pairing that with the believability and authenticity of prime New Jack, you get an all-timer in between the ropes. Although he has some staggering lows, such as most of his MAGA Butcher stuff, his peak is only surpassed by an elite few people. Anyone who knows ball would put him on their list of top 100 wrestlers. Being one-half of the greatest match of all time(vs. Samoa Joe) also helps his case
16.07.2024 | RealTalker21 | | Necro is magnificent wrestler, facing the likes of New Jack, Abdullah The Butcher, Balls Mahoney, Low Ki, Chris Hero, Brodie Lee, Kendo Kashin, Rob Van Damn, Sami Callihan, Eddie Kingston, Sabu, Homicide just to name a few and we can't forget his match with Samoa Joe and I hope Necro recovers and gets well
25.06.2024 | jjcharg77 | 4.0 | people are fond of him and rightfully so. hes had some good matches. but I think people need to be honest with themselves and realize he really hasnt been the same and the match quality goes down ever since after his ROH run in the 00s. his newer stuff feels phoned in in a sense and I think the maga butcher gimmick is a bit lazy. so yeah his current run is sourer my view on his older matches. at least I will always have Joe v Necro to look back on cause that was a crazy hard hitting match
04.06.2024 | deserterdragon | | One of the best ever, and obviously so if you actually watch his stuff and don't just listen to regurgitated slop takes from worthless podcasters. Unbelievably great matches with H8 club, Low Ki, Joe, Super Dragon, ROH vs CZW feud, BJW. A wrestler with a consistent character and aura that actually captures what can be real and raw and magnetic about wrestling in an age of dweebs who think you can only tell a story by staring at your hands after somebody kicks out of a frog splash.

02.05.2024 | texasyosh | 8.0 | Necro is really an interesting case study for the context and content of a career. He really got prominence at a time through the prominent indies in wake of the end of ECW, as well as the list of indie promotions starting up in a post-WCW world. How does Necro fare in that space? Probably as one of the best of his era, no? It's hard to deny that after looking at the scope of his work. The best wrestlers are the ones that make you believe and I think Necro absolutely nails that. He wrestles a style that tends to sometimes age wrestlers better than others, but he looks double the age that he is now. In between a 7 and an 8, rounded up.

28.02.2024 | jasvvy | 7.0 | Best punch in the game (mostly because they're likely real lol) and honestly, probably one of the more underrated talents. He'll bump, sell, give you one hell of a match, and just keep going. Hell, he's 50 and STILL taking suplexes to the floor - he might be insane, but you gotta respect the dedication. If you watch his work from 2002/2006, you'll get some truly great matches.

04.06.2023 | TESDAnt37 | 2.0 | At one time I would have rated Necro pretty high. He was a lot better than the general perception of his skills. But now not so much. He is a shell of his former self and it is really sad to watch now. He just doesnt have it anymore and he is seriously damaging his legacy.
29.05.2023 | Giantfan1980 | 1.0 | Not a fan at all of the bloody, mutilating death matches of the indy outlaw feds. I guess if you fight in a wrestling ring, you quality as a wrestler, but gouging each other with lighbulbs and thumbtacks and other assorted yard sale props isn't the best example of athletic skills.
19.05.2023 | BurningLariat13 | 6.0 | One of my favourite deathmatch guys of all time, won't ever leave that spot for me but he's completely washed up at this point. He's not a great dude IRL either, but he sure was good at beating dudes up (and getting beaten up). Joe vs Necro is also one of my favourites of all time, which contributes highly to Necro's rating here. Between my love for him and his shitty current state, I gotta even it out at a 6. Unless he makes a miraculous change and stops doing weird MAGA stuff I don't see him rising at all.

17.02.2023 | thrstynmsrbl | 8.0 | Top 5 deathmatch wrestlers ever, an amazing brawler with old-school wrestling psychology. The MAGA Butcher stuff he's doing in XPW now though is a load of out-of-touch, "go away heat" horseshit even for XPW standards - it's not offensive, it's not edgy, it doesn't generate real heat, it's just corny and dumb. I hope Necro doesn't keep this gimmick up long and cheapen his otherwise legendary in-ring legacy.

21.09.2022 | Resident | 10.0 | Deathmatch legend. One of the best hardcore/deathmatch wrestlers of all-time and was in the film, The Wrestler. I remember him in IWA MS where he was a former KOTDM winner and in IWF and XICW in Michigan. Always went all out for the fans, whether only a few fans or a ton, like when he wrestled in Ring of Honor. He has a unique look, tons of charisma and can take a ton of punishment like Mick Foley just years later. He retired when he got cancer. But beat it and has clme back. A little slower now, but still a great hardcore wrestler.

07.11.2020 | Ma Stump Puller | 7.0 | Was great when paired with someone who can work with his carny over the top deathmatch brutality, but for the most part, Necro was a pretty eh wrestler that needed a good dance partner to be worth much in terms of match quality. Much in the vain of talent like Abdullah the Butcher and Bruiser Brody, he was more or less a deathmatch guy who would be paired with nearly every big indie name in the business and give a unique flavour to wrestlers who would otherwise never be involved in such matches: and much like both of them, this could either work out well, or just turn into a long, plodding match. The latter seemed to be more consistent.

07.08.2019 | KyleEnjoysWrestling | 3.0 | One of the pioneers of modern day ultra-violent wrestling, Necro is certainly a legend in that field. But that said, I'm not so sure that's a good thing. He was extremely limited & was mostly just a punching bag. He got over for being a shoe-less weirdo hobo who looked like he came from his home in the rundown boxcar on the outskirts of town. He had some interesting encounters with Low Ki & Joe, but like the people said below, it's hard to look at him as a wrestler. I'll give him a couple points for connecting with the audience & having a bit of a character. But he's not a guy who I feel should be celebrated as a wrestler.

They could hold a pretty good match, even in a non-hardcore setting. I don't see that in Necro at all. I'm honestly shocked at all the scores above a 5 that people have given him. It goes to show that some people value bumps over talent. |
