To win that title was his destiny, as he said in numerous promos. He battled Jeff Jarrett on a couple of occasions, but he wasn't able to capture the belt. After some months feuding with Jarrett and AJ Styles they booked a three way dance for the title between those wrestlers. On that match Raven had hit the Raven Effect DDT and was about to win, but Shane Douglas made his debut and stopped the pin and begun a big brawl with Raven that took him out of the match. On the last show of June, Shane Douglas cut a great promo saying that Raven was trying to reanimate what he killed 10 years before and because of that he had to make a deal with the Devil. Later on the show it is revealed that the Devil was Father James Mitchell, who threw a fireball to Raven. On the following shows the New Church keeps beating Raven and the Gathering and they explain their reasons for the attacks: Mitchell hates Raven and he has awakened his wrath, so now Mitchell has unleashed hell on him. Also, Mitchell plays some mind tricks on Raven, such as kidnapping Julio Dinero and Alexis Laree and threatening to set them on fire, which lead to Douglas putting Raven on a body bag and some great promo work by Mitchell. Then a mistery man begun to appear to beat Raven and Douglas begins to tease a Hair vs Hair match. Also, the New Church hangs Raven and The Gathering of the balcony or the ring ropes a couple of times, getting heat and making Raven a true underdog. On the War Games match Raven beat the heels, but in the end the New Church beat him after the match and cut his hair a bit. That lead to the most famous match of the feud and one of the iconic moments on the Asylum: the Hair vs Hair match and the scalping of Raven. I loved that match beacuse it gave so much heat to the heels. Both Douglas and Raven got busted open and they did some wild spots. Again, when Raven was about to win after hitting a Raven Effect off the top rope through a table, the lights went out and the mistery man appeared again and revealed himself as Vampiro. He hit a DDT on Raven allowind Douglas to cover him. After the match, Mitchell scalps Raven head and makes him bleed even more and look at himself on a mirror. On the following show Raven cut a great promo saying that Mitchell had hurt him and he didn't think he could be hurt. Later on the night they had a great dog collar six man tag that ended with the Gathering taking the victory, but again the New Church stood strong in the end hanging their rivals off the balcony. After that Raven is looking for revenge and wanted to kill the New Church and make Mitchell dream bllod. Then he took out every member of the New Church one by one and hung them off the ropes. I really enjoyed his match with Vampiro and some of the spots. Then only Mitchell was left, so he faced him on a last man standing where he defeated a crimson masked James Mitchell and ended the feud. This feud was so good and enjoyable from start to finish. First of all because of the excellent promo work, something that wasn't common at this stage on TNA. Both Mitchell and Raven made this feud bloody, violent and interesting with their brawls, promos and their character development. There are many great moments and visuals and it's totally recommended. |

Jim Mitchell got to be let off the hook from being scripted in the initial period of TNA and he put on some of the best promo work in this feud in the history of the company. Add Raven to the mix who is certainly no slouch himself on the mic and even Shane Douglas delivered on the microphone in this feud. |
